We need to get this calorie counting forum jumping!!!!..I need some motivation here people hardly ever post under this thread. So I will begin! Post random things abt calorie intake ..did you have a good day ..bad day ect..

Yesterday was bad! It was my daughter birthday so I ate a light breakfast and a small salad for lunch. I was saving some room so that I could enjoy something good for dinner with her..She picked Chinese and I picked the worst thing on the menu shrimp fried rice and fried chicken wings..ask me why I dnt knw but I was starving by the time it came for dinner I disnt eat all rhe rice and I shared the wings but I knw I was over my calories and the sodium alone can cause me to gain. .got on the scale this morning and I had gained .4 oz not too bad but I dnt want to see a gain at all I just got over the TOM and waited patiently thru that bs now this..smh but it could of been worse. So time to get serious no more sneaky meals..Thwre is no more birthdays this month so I should be ok and if there are more birthdays I wont be participating in them. Onward march!!!!! I need to lose 7lbs before Halloween so I have no time to play games :)

So far I have been coming in under my calorie allotment. But not anything crazy, 96 calories here, 60 calories there. However, I realized by Friday, I had enough saved up with those little amounts, that I could splurge a little and go out to eat with my husband, being mindful, of course, not to go hog wild.
Today I saved up a big chunk for dinner tonight at my Mother-in-laws.

Yesterday I was under my calories and today I will end up somewhere around 1400 cal. It is a sushi night! I had 300 cal lunch and nothing else (I skip bfast every day, I can not stomach it)....so I allocated 1100 cals for dinner.

I did walk nearly 5 miles and lifted weights for 40 minutes, so earned some calories from exercise as well.

Yes !! I finally found something to curb my cravings and fairly low cal. Mens Health has an article called Eat this not that! Well it has a list of fast food options that are low in calories. I opted for the kfc 3 crispy chicken strips with corn and green beans. .485 calories! And im full and satisfied and with all the snacking I did today im still under my calories for the day :carrot:

I went over my calories too, I try to stay between 1200 and 1800 today I was at 1860 so not too bad.

I am pretty proud of myself for not letting myself go more over. Sometimes when I go over I'll be like well I already ate too much so I may as well eat more if I want and start fresh tomorrow.

Hopefully I won't have gained back those 3 pounds tomorrow.

I like this idea. Starting Sept. 30th I decided to plan all my food for my work week so I've got healthy snacks planned. Last week went really well. I try to eat less than 1515 on non-exercise days and 1730 on exercise days.

Today, I've got just over 700 calories left for dinner and an after dinner snack. I may even have enough for a glass of wine :)

Wow Sum38, you are doing great. I don't think I'd last a day at 1200 calories!

Today was a planned exercise day, which for me is running outside however there's a typhoon approaching so not only is it raining but it's pretty windy too. So even though today was a planned higher calorie day, I'm going to end up going over my non-exercise calorie goal by only 10 calories and be way under (200 calories) what I thought I'd end up eating today.

I have been weighing myself daily this month. I've been doing the daily weigh in on the 20-somethings board to keep myself accountable. I kind of stopped calorie counting last month when I was going through a break up.

Normally I try to weigh myself 1-2 times a week and not obsess but I haven't found weighing myself daily to really affect how I'm feeling. I know my weight will fluctuate up and down day to day. Overall though I'm down about 8 pounds in as many days. Not really sure how that happened but I'm not complaining.

I've been doing okay with calories the last couple days.

I've suddenly started enjoying working out? I usually work out MWF & every time it's this huge chore. I typically just go into the gym do 30 min on the stationary bike and get out of there.

This week I started a new routine Monday I went and did the 30 minutes on the bike and then about 15 minutes on other strength training types of machines. I'll do that again on Friday.

Then tonight I did 65 minutes on the bike! I burned 369 calories! I watched Survivor while I was there. I figured if I was going to go home and sit on the couch and watch it anyways I may as well just stay there and burn calories while I do it? I also thought.... my gym has free wifi and I could just bring my ipad and watch netflix while at the gym. :o Maybe I should bump up to 5x a week instead of 3?

Skinny cow makes ice cream? I had no idea! I'll have to look into that.

While we're on the topic do any of you guys have any other low calorie sweet tooth type options? I sadly have a crazy sweet tooth.

I personally LOVE vitatops and vitabrownies. The banana chocochip vitatops are sooo good. All the stuff I've tried by that brand has been soooo good and it's only 100 calories. They're a bit on the more expensive end I guess but they're so worth it.

Hi everyone! So glad to see this thread started :)

I'm finding that most days I am below my calories for the day. As someone else mentioned, it's maybe 100 or even just 50 less. Yesterday I was 878 calories under o.O It was a super busy day and I just ended up not eating much. That is something I need to work on.

Today is kind of a messed up day so far, so I am fairly certain I will be low on my count today too. I'm just going to eat when I'm hungry and try not to stress about it too much.

How do you all handle the unexpected in your day?

makebelieve
10-10-2013, 11:26 PM
Went over today. :( I guess not really by that much. MFP has me at 1390 a day but I just try and keep between 1200 and 1800. I was at 1851. I just feel guilty because I've been eating junk instead of more healthy things. I think I need to make a shopping list before I go shopping this weekend.

Yeah, it's rough trying to incorporate it at first. :( On the days I really don't want to I just try to remember how much better I'll feel having done it after. I'd suggest trying to walk a couple times a week but that will be hard soon since there is less and less daylight now & it's getting so chilly!

makebelieve
10-10-2013, 11:28 PM
& To be honest these days... my life is pretty boring. There isn't a whole lot of unexpected for me... so I am able to plan pretty well. I tend to be a night time snacker... and I sleep in late so I try to save my calories for the end of the day.

Though the fact I have a lot of free time can kind of be a bad thing since I think I'd think about it less if I had more to keep me busy.

I actually had a really good weekend, on Saturday I made a list of healthier foods and went shopping. I've been feeling really good about my food choices! & I've had more energy. I've been eating 1500 cal all weekend.

I'm really enjoying nuts lately, I got some raw walnuts and almonds.
I also got some sunflower seed butter & have been putting it on rice cakes as a snack. Yummy! I've also been trying to balance out what I eat more, when I eat any carbs I try and also eat something with protein in it to try and keep my blood sugar from spiking because I'm insulin resistant.

Horrible weekend but I WILL NOT give up!!!

That's it, do not give up. One day at a time. It is good to have some little spikes up like this! I did that two weeks ago because I was on a trip and then had a birthday. So the scale went up about 3 to 4 lbs. well I got back on program but it took several days to go back down to what it was and then it went down 2 in a day. I weigh every day also, and I hate that I get mad when it goes up even tho usually it is because of high sodium meals.

There's a nice story on cnn today that is motivating. Medical emergency motivates couple to lose 538 pounds
For some reason my ipad isn't showing the address so I just copied in the headline.

Hello!

Thought I'd join in. I'm actually new to this whole calorie counting thing, but it's going well the last three weeks! Yesterday I ended with 838 though...... way to low, but it was a busy day and far from my norm! I don't like eating past 7 or 8 as it messes with my sleep. Tonight going to really plan something yummy and filling. I keep my limit around 1200-1500, but mostly been eating about 1250.

If you work out, are you eating back your calories? I'm currently not, but wonder if I should start. Most of the time I'm just not hungry.....

Hello everyone. I am Larry and I am slowly getting back on track after a prolonged absence from 3FC and a huge weight gain during my absence. :(

I did walk for 20 min already today and will probably do another 30 minutes this afternoon when I get off. According to my fitness pal, that's 270 calories burned. That'll leave me some room in case I miscounted.

I had a very nice dinner out last night at an Italian place. I ended up ordering the special which was grouper, swimming in a buttery sauce. Surprisingly I wasn't up today on scale. But I am sooooo hungry today! I had two extra snacks at school (I teach) and a bigger than normal dinner. I had to eat dinner at 4:45 because I was so hungry. I think it is because I am really tired, that I was so hungry. But I've discovered over my many years of dieting if I am really hungry, I shouldn't starve. That doesn't work for me!

I don't usually eat back all of my calories that I exercised but I do eat maybe 50 to 100 of them. Today it will be all!

Hi Larry welcome!! Wow ur sodium was really high..may I ask what u ate? Im no expert but I am an RN so whn I seen your calorie intake and the amount of sodium u had it makes me want to ask questions. Also drink lots and lots of water especially when u know u ate something high in sodium. This will help flush out ur system. Im sure u are aware of this but if not high sodium is not good for health at all and certainly wont help u lose weight bc ur body will hold on to the water to try and prevent dehydration. Causing ur blood pressure to increase which can cause heart problems.

Ughh. Not been doing so well these last few days.

I have an awful cold. :( I'm a nanny so it's prob the first of many these next few months. :( Kids are so germy!

Every day after work I've been so achey and stuffy I haven't been to the gym since Tuesday and I'm feeling guilty about it. I also haven't bothered with MFP the last two days. :( I'm quite sure I've been over my calorie amount this week and I had a very snacky night on Wednesday.

Scale has been steady at 254 though all week so I guess that's good? I've also been telling myself I'm probably retaining at least a pound of mucus so once the cold is gone I should be lighter! :P lol

I've been drinking lots of water. I bought a new water bottle today with the amount of oz marked on it so I can try and keep track of how much I'm drinking better. I feel like I drink around 64-96oz a day.

Thanks for the Welcome. Everything you said applies to me except my blood pressure. My Brothers, Sister and I were blessed with the low blood pressure gene. My normal is around 90/35 with or without sodium. Does not seem to affect it. My personal best without fainting was 66/22. Most people would be passed out at that level.

Holding on to water my body does to extreme sometimes. My cardiologist labeled me "Sodium Sensitive" for water retention. I am on daily lasix.

Tomorrow is my weigh in day. I used to weigh every day but I have reduced that to weighing only once a week. This helps me to see less up and down fluctuations.

Loving my new fitbit zip! I wanted to really see how hard I could push myself today. I ended up walking 2 miles on the track. I was going to have a cheat day, but my husband ended up spending an hour in Game Stop, eating up all our lunch time. So I skipped lunch, had a mocha from Starbucks, and then after the movie, went to O'Charley's. My appetite has shrank. I used to wipe out a plate of chicken tenders. Tonight, even with skipping lunch, I ate two, a few fries and the salad with no dressing. Grabbed an oreo milkshake from Chick Fil A on the way home, and after a few sips it made me ill.

I'm feeling pretty good right now :D :carrot:

Went over my sodium levels yesterday and noticed a difference. Thanks Larry for making me more conscious of my sodium intake which led me to look at my water intake. Getting the water in has been hard I found that drinking tap water out of the faucet is helping me ..I can drink it faster. I been on only water for the last two months I just wasnt getting enough in. Today is going great I haven't ate dinner yet but ive logged everything I plan to eat and im within my calories and macros. I also incorporated adding more fiber to help me stay regular. Since I weigh daily I want my system to be as clear as possible when I step on the scale. All in all im doing good my weight loss is slow but it is dropping at least and when it doesn't I take a look at what im eating and adjust. Im learning so much abt my body and nutrition. I dont feel deprived which is very important. The only thing I havent incorporated is excercise but it is coming very very soon. I need to research on where to start wht I shld be doing so that it is semi fun and something I can stick with. Happy counting all!

Had a bad day yesterday, but instead of running away from it I'm writing it because I need to stay accountable so it doesn't happen frequently.

Yesterday was an odd day because I was hungry the whole day. I plan my meals and usually eat the same things daily. Most days it keeps me satisfied but not yesterday. I didn't go ridiculously overboard, I was just over 1800 calories. My planned evening snack was a yogurt, but that wasn't going to be enough so I had peanut butter and crackers instead which is what put me over.

I'm doing really well today and should be right around 1600. I'll edit my post once the counting is done.

I think that is the way to do it. You havs tp be honest with urself and accountable fos the choices you make. When I go over calories I find myself not wanting to log everything and not wanting to get on the scale (I weigh daily) but I make myself bc I want to hold myself accountable for my actions rather good or bad. Like yesterday wasnt good for me I was having lots of cravings I know it was stress from work . And having to work late so I had a craving and I acted on it. Not a proud moment but I must take responsibility. I am dreading getting on the scale this morning but it must be done. I also force myself to log the number on my calender so I can see the effects of my actions. Sigh

Ended yesterday at 1026 and burned 543 calories over walking according to fitbit. I was not hungry at all last night, so I just didn't bother eating them.

I had a bad day too Changegirl. Sunday and Monday. But I logged it and shrugged and moved on. It happens. :) I'm eating lower the next few days to help with my weekly deficit. As of right now, today is only going to be 864 if I don't add something else. After my walk tonight I'll probably have an extra serving of the grilled pork chops I'm cooking just to bring me up to 1200. I suppose I could go have that doughnut my coworker brought in, but I really don't want it LOL. Three weeks ago, it would have already been scarfed down.

Sunday and Monday my appetite was off the charts. I could have eaten a whole elephant. But yesterday and so far today, it's nonexistent. Amusingly enough if this keeps up, I might actually be able to pull off a 5:2 intermittent fast if I tried. I don't really want to try, but it's nice to know I could.

I skip breakfast so today I'm having a cup of homemade chilli my coworker brought in with a grilled chicken salad at a local restaurant with no dressing. For dinner, two grilled pork tenderloins, boneless and lean, and steamed broccoli with half a tsp butter.

And this just dawned on me.... I started off having over a 100 lbs to lose. Now I only have 84. It's the first time I've ever looked at it that way LOL!

Thanks for all the encouragement!!! I know most days I'm eating way under maintenance calories so the odd higher day isn't really going to make much of a difference. As long as it's just a day. My weight has been yo-yoing since the end of July, mainly because of trips I've been going on where I don't restrict myself. I'm not going anywhere till the middle of January so I have no excuses.

I ended yesterday at 1571 which was great and I'm on right on track for today.

FickleHearts- that is a great way to look at things. I love looking at/using numbers for encouragement.

Yesterday ended with 1388. After my 3 mile walk, I was pooped. I did not want to cook so we ended up going to McDonald's. I figured up calories before I left and Fitbit's estimate and MFP's said I could have up 1600 due to the exercise. I haven't ate fast food other than Subway in weeks and was massively craving a Big Mac. I was floored that a Big Mac and medium fry only came up to 820 calories. I would have thought over a thousand for sure!

Well, I was expecting a massive gain on the scale this am because I just don't buy the 820 cal thing, but surprisingly, I lost a lb!

Definitely not doing that everyday but it's nice to know I can squeeze things in occasionally if need be. Now I only have 83 lbs left LOL

See back in January I was 265 lbs and was looking at over a hundred lbs to lose. It was daunting and very disheartening. 83 just seems like its doable. I can't explain it. It's still a lot of weight to lose, but it's just not so scary anymore.

I'm also looking into getting some sort of Fitbit, I'll have to look into the force because I liked certain things from each of them but the other ones were all missing something, hopefully this one's got it all.

Ended up around 1700 yesterday so I'm back to 0 for days under! This weekend I'm heading up to Seoul to go to the DMZ which means I'll be eating a couple 'American' meals out. Welcome Lillian! Your right we can do this! Dont beat up on urself. Today is a new day. Thats the great thing abt this when u fall off which we all do. Just get right back on the horse eventually it will stick. I found if I preplan my meals I do much better :)

Fickle. ..great way of thinking! I too indulge in the occasional BigMac. It is nice to know we can still have what we like but in moderation. I think that is key to making it stay off. You dont feel restricted. And it is something you can do for a lifetime.

Larry great work on the sodium. Just remember that ur body must have some sodium to survive. So you dont want to cut it out completely. The recommend low is 500 mg/day. BUT with u being sodium sensitive your doctor may recommend something else I woukd just check to be sure.

Yesterday was perfect for me the only thing I didnt get in was all of my water but I came close calorie wise I was within my limit. I decided to cut back on the processed snacks. There are a few I can have that dont cause my cravings to kick in. But I went WAY over board on Wed. Was at a Breast Cancer dinner and they had all kinds of food there and I indulged in everything but felt very sick afterward. So yesterday I made sure that I ate normal with no snacks to give my tummy a break havent got on the scale this morning so idk if it helped but I feel much better. One day at a time thats all we can do the positive thing is that im not where I was a month ago and learning so much about nutrition and how to make this a way of life. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

I'm here for support and accountability, so this thread is really great! I want to have to come in and tell that I did or didn't stick to my goal. Today's goal is 1200. Hey everyone! Happy November!

I've been sooo off plan lately. I did so well at the start of October. My goal was to get down to 249 by the end of the month. Then I got a cold and couldn't exercise for a week. Then... I just started eating junk, I even had a bunch of left over halloween candy yesterday. I haven't used MFP in a couple weeks. I have been going to the gym but no strength training this past week because I hurt my shoulder.

I woke up this morning and decided it was time to get back on plan so I stepped on the scale to see the damage, and I have actually lost 1.5 lbs since I last weighed. :o I'm not sure if my scale is broken or something but it was kind of motivating. Not sure how it happened though. :P I still didn't reach my goal... but it's still 11.5 pounds lost in one month! Not bad.

So I had set my goal at 165 when I started in July and I honestly didn't think I would get there but thought I would give it a try. I usually stop losing around 172 because I feel okay at that weight. I do feel great but my BMI is still in the overweight range at 165 and 5'7". I am probably under 5'7", haven't checked in many years. So to get to a BMI of normal range I would have to get to 159. So I guess I may adjust to that. But after I hit the first goal. Maintaining is the hardest thing for me. I can lose, and boy can I gain, but maintaining....
I know this is true of over 90% of people. If one of us could invent the way to get people to maintain, we'd be rich! Then we'd eat too much again, :dizzy:

CalCounter1003- looks like you and I have pretty similar stats right now, I'm 5'7 too and I'm at 167.5 right now. I've been overweight my entire life so I randomly picked 170 as a goal weight, thinking I'd be happy there. Of course I was not and am now thinking of getting to the normal BMI range of 159 as well. It would also mean just over 50 pounds lost so that'd be pretty cool!

skinnyki- I think I'm going to start calorie cycling again. I had previously done it on days I exercised, but I am so inconsistent with my exercising that never really worked. I like the idea of having higher days when I normally would because Wednesdays and Fridays are days I'm always over. I'll just have to be extra careful on other days.

I'm up to 3 days of being under which I'm proud of. I'm hoping to stay under today but I hiked for 4.5 hours yesterday and can already tell my body wants me to eat extra to replace all those extra calories burned.

It turns out the school district I work for is taking all the English teachers to Seoul for a 2 day Korean cultural learning experience Monday and Tuesday (we were told last minute which is normal for Korea). I guess even though I've lived in the country for over 4 years I don't know enough!! I'm not sure how well I'll do when I'm there food wise, I have to make sure I keep my rice portions to a minimum.

ChangeGirl, that's awesome that you have lost so much. I have been thinking the last day or so that it would be pretty cool to be a normal weight. I gained some in college, and lost it, and then after kids have never made it down less than 170, so I'm thinking I'm going to change my goal down to 159 or so. I do feel great now :D but it would be nice to know I'm in the normal range, even if the very top of it! When I went for a physical in April the Dr said that he is supposed to tell anyone overweight what their bmi is and he said I was obese. :(
We can do it!

Hello all hope everyone weekend went well. Mine was fun had a blast drunk a little too much not sure how many total calories tho..something weird is going on with me tho. My appetite is decreasing here lately like today its 330pm and I havent eaten anything just drunk some water and thats it. I am hungry now tho but too lazy to get up and find something healthy to eat. Another thing thats going on with me is the snacking has decrease big time which is a good thing. Bc its probably helping with my weightloss this was not something I made a conscios decision to do. I just dont have a need to eat snacks like I used to..when I say snacks I mean the 100 calorie snacks or my fav skinny cal icecream sandwich which is also only 150 calories. Its weird bc I used to have no contol over eating these things now I dont want them as much.

I also have a question do u guys count the calories when drinking alcohol? I hear conflicting things some say you cant gain weight by drinking while others say beer makes u gain btw I dnt drink beer and I only drink maybe 1 or 2x a month.

Hey all! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am back to this wonderful online community after taking a break for 1 year. I'll be posting here frequently b/c I am a calorie counter. Thankfully, I'm only 5 lbs above my low weight last year, but I am starting on my journey again to lose my last 35 lbs to a normal BMI. Looking forward to encouraging each other.

Hi, I would love to join your forum, I've been counting calories forever it seems like, I only have 15 lbs to lose and I've been doing -750 calorie a day deficit and I can't seem to budge the scale? I use myfitnesspal to track all my foods. last week I had a deficit of 4,132 calories which is 590 a day but didn't lose 1 lb. Not sure what's going on.

Welcome Shelley! Im no expert but I have been doing my research on calorie counting. Instead of decreasing calories you might want to increase them try adding 100 - 200 calories a day and see if this helps. What happens when u are too low your body thinks its in starvation mode and hold onto everything you eat. I tried this before and it works!

I think you are right about that! I added a couple hundred calories on two days last week, not so much intentionally but it was Halloween, and other things came up and was surprised to see I had lost. Maybe I should add a mini candy bar everyday. ;)

I am also finding portion control easier. What has helped me is weighing food (can't believe I am saying that -- I used to think it was ridiculous to weigh food). Anyway, it has really given me a perspective on how much food restaurants give. I can now see that my favorite taco salad has about 10 oz of chicken! That has helped me to cut down portions when eating out. Probably most restaurant food could be cut in half.

I don't know how I only ate one fun size bar either. I think because I had just hit a new low I felt motivated.

Well..... Fri. I stayed under my calorie limit because I knew we were going out for our anniversary and I saved all of them for that LOL.

Sat.... I ended around 2300. Curse you Five Guys....

Sun., the last day of our anniversary weekend, I ended up around 1600. Most of that was breakfast.

Yesterday, my cat passed away and I didn't eat dinner at all, but did end up eating Chick Fil A nuggets before bed because they were there and I was heartsick. Ended around 1400. I also woke up and had lost another pound despite the horrible food weekend I had. I'm figuring it just hasn't caught up with me yet.

Today, despite the small bursts of crying and knots in stomach, I should end around 975. I need a few low calorie days after all the rubbish I've eaten so I don't feel bad about that.

And at least my walk gives me a great excuse to get out of the house. :(

So sorry about your cat. It just feels awful, I know. I'm a dog person but the loss is the same -- heart wrenching. We lost our golden retriever in August 2012 to cancer and we got a rescue lab two days later. I don't regret it but I realized that in a way I was just delaying the grieving. The new dog definitely helped all of us feel better, and we love him so much. But then about a year later, this past August, I really started missing the golden retriever. I keep feeling sad about him and remembering how great he was. :( I'm debating getting a puppy at the end of the school year when I will be home to train for about 10 weeks. Got to get DH to agree though!

Hang in there! Keep walking! A Mother Theresa quote I like is "It is impossible to walk quickly and be unhappy".

Thank you for your condolences about Chibi. CalCounter - I have two dogs too. I consider myself both a cat and dog person, but you're right, the pain is very much the same when they pass on. I can't dive into getting a new cat just yet, but my husband lost his a few months back and he said he's ready for one. I'm hoping when we move into the new house we'll be able to go pick two out together so this time they'll at least like each other from the start. :)

Ended yesterday at 1254. I had chicken fajitas at lunch and then was dragged back up there for dinner where I had grilled chicken and shrimp with a side salad.

Did 30 min on the elliptical and got in my 10k steps! I could have eaten 1800 cal's yesterday, but I was full. I never thought 1200 - 1400 calories would actually keep me satiated but it does LOL. Today's looking pretty low so far, but that's good. I need to keep my sodium down so my weigh in tomorrow is awesome. So far I've lost 3 lbs this week alone and am really hoping for more tomorrow! But if not, I'm totally satisfied with the 3. :D

We're going to see Thor tomorrow and probably out to eat at Red Lobster. Amusingly enough I live on the coast and can get fresh seafood whenever I want, but we choose to eat at Red Lobster hehe. Looking over their menu, the cals really aren't that bad. I'm actually pleasantly surprised! I can't even take one bite of popcorn or I go crazy and get hypnotized and eat it all.

I don't know much about fit bits either. I don't think it is a great idea it skip a meal because your body might go to starvation mode and start hoarding what you do eat. But I don't claim to be an expert! There is one night a week when I can't eat dinner. I teach all day and then go straight to a college where I teach from 5-10. So there is no way I can eat a meal. I snack every time I give a break and it ends up being less calories but I make up for it on Friday!

I was under my calories b y 142, using my fitbit flex calories in calories out:
walked 4.05 miles
burned 2,075 calories
slept 8 hr 47 min (4x awake, 19x restless)
ate 1,433 calories
walked 9,145 steps
The fitbit flex is a wrist band that monitors your movement 24/7, using the calories in calories out it starts from midnight to midnight every day, it tracks calories burned while you sleep and so when you wake up it gives you how many calories you can eat based on what you burn, I've been using it for a month now and have lost 5 lbs, it has four catagories you can set it up depending on how much you want to lose a week, I have it synced to myfitnesspal so it knows how many calories I eat as I log my food daily,
So here are the different catagories:
Easier: lose 0.5 lbs/week 250 calorie deficit per day
Medium: lose 1.0 lbs/week 500 calorie deficit per day
Kinda Hard: lose 1.5 lbs/week 750 calorie deficit per day
Harder: lose 2.0 lbs/week 1000 calorie deficit per day

go to www.fitbit.com and check out the different products
The fitbit force counts stairs but also shows on the band how many steps, calories burned only problem with the force is you cannot change out the bands like the flex, on the flex you can change colors which is really nice and you can wear it in the shower and the force band you cannot.

Thank u Skelley very informative and sounds awesome :) now I want one!! Lol im going to check it out.

Calcounter I know I will do better but I kind of like skipping breakfast so I can eat more later in the day. But thats not good either. I just go back to three meals a day. ;)

I skip breakfast. I've always skipped breakfast, even as a kid. It used to make me ill eating first thing in the morning and just became habit. Plus, on my days off I tend to be a night owl and sleep till 1, so I think my body has just gotten used to eating at 1.

There isn't any harm in skipping meals really, not if you aren't hungry. Or, it hasn't hindered me. I've steadily lost 2 lbs or more a week since Oct 1st and I only eat lunch and dinner with little to no snacking, and sometimes only dinner (although not often). Now, this is just me and everyone is different. I'm just saying what I do. :) I don't really believe in starvation mode. Not saying it isn't possible, but I just disagree. I've read a great deal of things saying its a myth and great deal of things saying it's real. So, who knows. My philosophy is, if your hungry eat, if your not, don't worry about it.

But that's me and to each his own. :D

I've really enjoyed my Fitbit. I have the zip now and it's kept me motivated to move. It's a device you hook onto your pants, or bra if your more comfortable with that. The Force is the upgrade from the Flex, the wristband version, although it's not really that much of an upgrade. I think they added a touch screen and watch to it and that's about it. I pre-ordered it without really looking at the Flex until after.

Hmm. Not sure if I want the flex or the force now.
I really want one, it'd be interesting to see how active I actually am. I work with kids so I'm on my feet chasing them around a lot.

I skip meals / have meals delayed. I'm a night owl, I literally CAN'T fall asleep earlier than 1am. Luckily with my current job I can sleep in... I usually wake up between 10-11 so my first meal is usually around 11:30 - 12:30.

If I wake up earlier than 9 or so I can't eat until a bit later anyways. It makes me feel sick as well.

I am a snacker though. Really I don't typically eat meals. I snack every couple hours. Dinner is usually the one actual meal I do eat when someone in the house or I decides to actually cook.

I think whatever works for you is good! I read a nice blog from one of the people on this site where she created her own diet - and she skipped breakfast also. I'm a huge breakfast eater! I can never skip it. If I do, I get weak and end up eating so much the rest of the day -- but I've known many people who are the opposite.

My Aunt is bringing me her FitBit at Christmas - it didn't work for her - or something. I'm not sure why as she is good technically, but maybe she just wasn't into it. I'm excited to get it though!

When I get real hungry like that I do eat, but try to stay somewhat reasonable, which it sounds like you did! Sometimes the day after those days the scale shows a drop. So weird. Hope you break out soon!

Today is going well. Should end around 1250 net. I walked four miles so going to eat a little more. Normally I walk three. Of course, I am totally estimating my walk calories. I use about 100 per mile with 4 mph.

I was at 1300 yesterday but was up a pound this am. That happens, and really this past weekend I don't know why I went down so much. I always seem to go down and then back up, then down again. It would be good if I only weighed weekly, but I can't. Too obsessed. :D

Welcome back, Changegirl!

My funk has somewhat lifted. I joined the gym yesterday after finding out it was indeed 24 hours. I even went and did their elliptical for 30 minutes. Mine at home is a cheap model that is about to fall apart. Tonight, I'm hoping my hubby shows up and helps me out with the weight machines. I haven't done weights since high school and have no idea what I'm doing. None of the gym workers are there after 5 to show me :(.

I didn't feel as out of place as I thought I would either. Other than the muscled guys on the benches, there really weren't that many fit people there LOL. I think it's something I can stick with long term.

And Calcounter, I'm heavily consider hiding my scale until January and just now worry about it for a bit. I know I'm losing inches as my clothes, even the new ones I just bought, fall off me. But then again, I'm obsessed with the stupid thing.

How many calories are you eating a day? Myfitnesspal has me at 1360 to lose 1lb a week. And shows my calories burn a day at 1,856, fitbit has me 1,785 based on my activity level but as I burn more calories it ups my calories I can eat, i'm doing the calorie in calorie out with a -500 a day deficit.

I'm doing the 2lbs a week on MFP, which currently has me at 1210. I have it set to sedentary and after working out usually can eat up to 1700 a day. I don't though as I'm not fully trusting the calories burned. I'm averaging around 1300-1400 a day, more on Saturday and/or Sun. I tend to ignore Fitbits suggestions as they kind of confuse me. It's set to extreme which is -1000.

When I get closer to my final goal, which seems forever away, I'll change it to 1 lb per week or less.

CalCounter1003- I'm about 4 pounds heavier than you and the same height and my 12s barely fit, in fact I've got a couple 14s that are a tad snug as well. Remember all of our bodies are shaped differently, I'm a major pear so my pants are larger to account for my giant butt and thighs!

Even though I use MFP to keep track of my calories I don't use their recommendation for how many to eat, it's definitely not enough for me. I'm not a happy person when I'm hungry! I used TDEE-20% which has me right around 1600 calories I day. I'm losing a bit slower than I could but I'm still happy with my progress. I'm getting a fitbit for xmas (hopefully) so that should help a bit more with accuracy.

I finished yesterday at 1553 so I was 47 calories under goal! So my streak is at 2. Wednesdays are usually higher calorie intake days so I'm going to have to do something to burn a bit more.

Talk about size differences..... When I was at 170 I wore an 8 in most brands, some a 10. I really wish there was a standard across the board on sizes. Places like Old Navy tend to run big, so what's really a 10 says an 8. Or that's how it used to be.. I haven't really been clothes shopping in ages, something I am looking forward to doing immensely! I did end the day under on Fitbit, so I guess I probably should have had a third serving LOL.

At the moment, I'm losing tons of weight in my legs and butt, but hardly nothing in my waist. All my pants are baggy and could fit two of me, but still fit great on my waist. It's annoying, but I guess it'll even out eventually.

Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am brand new to 3FC. I would love to join this thread. I use MFP and did very well with it earlier this year. Hi JenVitz and welcome,

Personally I don't like to exercise and I had gained back 15 lbs in the last few months and on October 10th I got the new fitbit flex band and I follow the calories in calories out and i'm losing around 1-1.5 lbs a week without exercising but I do walk when I can. I also sync it with myfitnesspal with foods daily. And I love it. Its a wrist band I wear 24/7 and it calculates my calories burned from midnight to midnight daily and thru out the day it tells me how many calories I can eat and if I go over it tells me and it monitors my sleep which is pretty cool. :carrot:

Thanks for the recipe. I love the taco soup one from WW's too if you ever run across it. My chilli wasn't really that high in calories and I would have been fine with just one bowl, but I ate two. And the sad thing is, I was really full after the first. Oh well.... The scale didn't seem to care though and aside from the beans doing their thing, I'm feeling okay today.

Ending today at 1115. I might up that a bit if I get a good work out, but I'm just not feeling in the mood to do more than the elliptical and some weights today.

Hi JenVitz! With two boys, sounds like your getting some good exercise. :D

I'm going to pick up my Fitbit Force on Saturday. I can't wait. I like the zip, but I really want an armband version. I plan on replacing my watch with it. I'm probably going to see if my hubby wants my zip and if he don't, I know one of my coworkers will.

This time of year is going to derail me fast if I don't watch out. We're already having two parties up here and I've gotten request to bring desserts. I bought a new stand mixer and I'm really eager to test it out, but sweets are my weakness. I've been strong up until now. I hope I can continue to hold out till Thanksgiving!

That recipe sounds great. I am in a rut with making the same meals each week. It's just DH and I at home now and he doesn't complain (or even ask what's for dinner, lol, long story!). But, I do need to mix it up. I love celery in recipes with tomatoes lately so to me that sounds great. I was surprised to see 20 servings, may have to half it at least.

I couldn't exercise today and am going to an open house tonight where I'm told they have lots of food. Desserts is my weakness also! I'm at approx 1000 cals now so I will probably just have one little dessert and estimate the total. I'd love to reach my goal before Christmas but with all the events coming up it will be hard. But if we can just maintain through the holidays, that is huge!

Yesterday was a great day calorie wise for me so I'm up to 4 days! I ended at 1,550 and that was with a much bigger than normal lunch, over 600 calories! I eat a school prepared lunch so it's always a surprise. My breakfast shake lasted me right till lunch, I usually have a couple hard boiled eggs as a mid morning snack but didn't need them which helped.

My husband and I are doing a weekend long hiking trip and are heading out right after work today which means the rest of our meals will be not be prepared by us. I'm not too worried about Saturday and Sunday since I'll be burning a ton of calories but I have to be careful with dinner tonight. I'd love to finally make it through a weekend under my goal.

I'm also quite excited because today I finally broke through the 76 kilos. I've seen 76.0 on the scale a couple times going all the way back to July but I've always yo-yo up due to extended vacations or short trips but this morning it was 75.9, not a big difference but psychologically it's huge. I'm really hoping Monday morning I'm still there (or lower).

That's 20 1-cup servings (a larger appetite may eat two at a time), and it freezes BEAUTIFULLY, if you wanted to make the full chili and have portions ready for the future.

Yesterday was a busy one and I ended up grazing dinner and falling asleep early! My weigh in went well this morning, down 1.4 since Monday - I wanted Friday morning weigh ins, but was ready to finally weigh in this past Monday.

S: None = 0

Tired again today. Really wish I knew why I can't sleep. :(

My nutritionist several years ago used to say that many people have sleep problems due to low calorie intake. She basically said that if you take in too few calories, your body detects that it does not have the "energy" to safely shut down. She suggested eating a small snack with protein a little before bed like some Greek yogurt, crackers with cheese, an egg, peanut butter with celery, etc.

Ended yesterday with 1,183 calories, 72 left, burned 1,755 calories and walked 1.43 miles which is 3,229 steps, drank 84 oz water, it was a good day!
Nice to see a lot of action on here, welcome to all the new comers!!:carrot:

Good Morning!
My calories goal is under 1270. I was at 1210 yesterday....
So I am happy with that. Today is weigh in for me and I am down 1.4lbs from last week :)
I know it is not much, but I am working on doing a 5 minute challenge every day from Spark People. Its only 5-6 minutes of exercising a day, but right now it is better than the 0 that I have been doing. I will keep you all posted on how it is going.

Originally goal today was 1200 now since I know its not gone happen goal went to 1600 hopefully less. Jenvitz..some exercise is better than none. That dont sound bad and actually its an attainable goal 5-6 min a day. Your right better than nothing.

Great job Skelley. Your doing great!

Munchy...the insomnia theory makes a lot of sense. That is probably whats going on. Btw ur cal intake is so low I probably wouldn't sleep for a week if I ate like that :) j/k good job

Haha :dizzy:

I'm pretty short and I really like to eat thick soup, so it works for me! Also, imagine you've been eating this way for over ten years. It's second nature and my maintenance calories are closer to 1200. If I had never started crash dieting as a young child, I would have never had such a low maintenance or losing level.

I tried to remedy it by going to a nutritionist for "re-feeding" but ended up not being able to take the extra 15lbs that eating 1600 calories put on me within a few months. I went down to 1400 but the 15lbs didn't drop off. Once I got through 9 months of blind-weighing and work with her and another doctor called me obese and handed me a calorie counting card (after I explained not to mention my weight as I was working with a specialist), all of her work was erased in my head

Ended at 1127.

Well, I guess I'll just have to deal with the sleep thing. I think I'll start going to bed later. I may only need 6 hours now instead of the 8-9 I was getting. I'd rather be tired and skinny, then wide awake and fat. Thanks for the info Munchy.

Today... I'm taking a small break. I'm going to log and not go crazy, but I've been fighting it all week. I have a 9000 calories weekly deficit according to fitbit, so I'm not going to really beat myself up for eating up to 1600 today with no exercise. I've put in crazy hours at the gym this week and I'm really sore. The husband wants to eat at O'Charleys and all my favorites there are super high in calories. I think I'll just snack on veggies till we go and just enjoy myself. I never finish the entire meal anyhow. :)

Didn't really lose much this week, but it's been a rough week and I'm pretty positive my muscles are holding onto water. Soooo sore..... But that's a good thing. I'll take my 1 lb and run with it LOL.

Ended yesterday at 1227. Not the 1600+ that I originally thought. .I ended up skipping dinner! Kinda glad bc I didnt need the extra calories yesterday. I woke up this morning and had a big breakfast so im ok. Today im going to try for 1200 again. Im really trying to make my Thanksgiving goal I have 7lbs to go in less than 2 weeks. :( might not make it but I would like to come close.

Munchy I didnt know you could "lower" your maintenance caloriesa.I dont ever want to do that bc I love to eat. Lol. How does that happen?

Skelley great job!

Fickle have fun at O charleys and enjoy yourself life is too short. I want to be healthy and I will lose the weight but I think it is possible to enjoy yourself along the way. Every now and then.

Hope everyone have a great healthy day. I was so tempted to stop at the local bakery and get some 2 blueberry donus this morning but they only accept cash and I had my debit. Thank God bc I really didnt need it. It sounded good but I dont want to sabotage myself.

Have a good day all.

Yesterday I finished strong around 1250 I think. I ate out for dinner but just had a salad, but had bread it was a little hard to estimate.
Today is going pretty well. I did a four mile walk (Leslie Sansone) and felt great afterwards - usually I do three miles. Eating out tonight - well take home-- from a great Cuban restaurant. So it will be another estimated meal.

Everyone is doing so great!

Ended today at 1265, did a lot of running today so I walked 3.58 miles, 8,084 steps and burned 1,786 calories according to fitbit, My calories are set at 1300 on myfitnesspal and fitbit starts me out at 1325 so they are close. So far I only have a deficit of 2,517 calories for the week but still have today and tomorrow to hit 3500 deficit to lose my 1lb.

My number for tomorrow will be 1600 I plan on making a turkey meatloaf for dinner veggies and some other sides. Not sure what else. Proud that I ended under 1200 Im going to calculate my deficit for the week. Tomorrow is official weigh in day so I am anxious to see if my number changes.

1779.... Ouch. Ended up watching the FSU game with the hubby at a sport's bar and started nibbling on the chilli cheese fries. Oh well, I'm down a lb this morning and don't feel bad about it. It happens. :)

Today however, it's back to the grind. Gym after homework, salad for lunch, and grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, and maybe a baked sweet potato for dinner. Sounds great to me!

Hey guys. :)
How is everyone doing?

I have had a really good weekend, been within my goal. I didn't lose any weight when I weighed in on Friday.
BUT yesterday I went for a 4 mile hike with some friends. I was curious when I got back and weighed myself and I think I sweated out 3 pounds. :P

Anyways, I'm going to stay on track this week! I'm starting to feel that motivation coming back!

I also found I really need to stay busy. At some I literally think about food all the time. :(

I am about 130 over my calories (my goal is 1200 but I had a 300 exercise... lately I am just always adding back in what I exercised). So I was at 1630. But the weekends are just tough, as many of you have said! During the week as long as I stay away from teacher's lounge, I can pretty much stay on track.

So I guess there's one good thing about Monday. ;)

Just wanted to mention that I have never been an exercise person until the last few months. I started with a few minutes a day also. Then I discovered the Leslie Sansone DVDs - you just walk at home without any equipment. I first found a youtube with one mile - I think it was this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df2gn6-w0dE And I found it very easy and ended up buying a few DVDs. And since July I have been exercising at least 6 times a week. It's amazing. I had not exercised since before my kids and they are 23 and 20! If I can do it... you can do it. If you start with a mile you will jump to two miles very quickly. I like it because I'm home, no one sees me, it's easy and she is so motivating. I know she isn't everyone's cup of tea, but for me, she's great.

Munchy I didnt know you could "lower" your maintenance caloriesa.I dont ever want to do that bc I love to eat. Lol. How does that happen?

Yep, if you under eat for many years (for me it was around 15 years) before I got pregnant and ate "normally" and gained like a MADWOMAN. I took it off with WW (18pts at the time, averaging 900 calories/day). My nutritionist said that because of doing it for so many years, my body is just not used to having so many calories, and that I'd have to gain weight in order to lose it, but it could take years to reset my maintenance to a more appropriate level.

Meanwhile, I just wanted to throw up from the sheer amount of food! Part of my undereating as a kid was because I didn't know what I could eat that wouldn't hurt my stomach. I seem to have narrowed it down to gluten, coffee, too much sugar, beans, greasy foods, and most cruciferous vegetables being the culprits.

My weekend didn't go as planned. I ended up drinking too much wine with my parents and ended up having a **** of a hangover on Sunday. I think I'm officially allergic to wine. LOL

I'm making a batch of coconut curry pumpkin soup tonight, and maybe one more soup to freeze. I haven't figured it out yet!
