October in the Northern Hemisphere gets us to days that really feel like fall -- and in the Southern Hemisphere spring is springing. Great seasons for putting new energy into our exercise.

State your goal and track it throughout the month with this supportive group of fellow exercisers. We'll compile our exercise goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

Up until now, I've tracked my walking (outdoor) and my other exercise (indoor) separately. Given that Fall is upon us here in Canada, it's tough to predict what the weather will be like and thus difficult to know how much indoor vs. outdoor exercise I will do. So, beginning this month, I will simply track total exercise minutes...whether outdoor walking or other indoor exercise.

So, following that lengthy preamble, I shall get to the point! :)

I think an October exercise goal of 2,500 minutes is a reasonable target... a bit of a stretch but nonetheless achievable.

So last month I went above and beyond what I thought I could reach. I set a miles goal of 40 miles and by the end of September I had reached 137 miles. It was all thanks to working hard on the cardio machines at the gym! So this month I’m setting a target that I never believed I’d be able to do in one single month! I didn't meet my gym goal in September so I'm going to stick to 20 times again and try reach that target. Here is to October, best of luck everyone.

I am signed up for two 5K fun runs in October.

My goal will be the Lazyman Marathon (October).

Oct 5: 5K plus warmup jog = 3.5 miles
Oct 8: 3.1 mile run
Oct 12: 1.5 mile run
Oct 14: 3 mile run
Oct 19: 5K plus warmup = 3.2 miles
Oct 21: 2 mile run
Oct 26: 5K plus warmup = 3.5 miles
Oct 27: 3.1 mile trot
Oct 31: 3.8 mile run

Total: 26.7 miles

completed my third 5K fun run in October :)

Sum38 I like how you have 3 levels of goals. I hope you don't mind but I am going to borrow your idea.

I like the three levels also. I would normally do 1800 minutes for the month, but I'm traveling and have an illness, so I'm going for

I am so flattered ladies that you liked my levels!

Last month I (barely) met my acceptable level -- I had to walk 2 times yesterday just to meet the miles, and go to the gym...I am tired today and my poor doggie does not want to get out of bed :D. So this month I am really going to push myself for the desired level and maybe Wow I Did It! sprinkled in.

Thanks Joy! I am shooting for 1 lap (1.2 miles) a day walking in the walking park. For the days that the weather isn't cooperating, I have bought a small stepper and I will use it for 20 minutes instead. For any day that I may be sick or hurt, I will accept making up the exercise on another day, as long as I get it all in during the month of October!

Edited to add: I'm going to simplify this. I went on another walk this evening so that I could time it, and it's approximately 20 minutes, so if I do 20 minutes walking or 20 minutes on the stepper each day, that equals 620 minutes for the month.

GOAL: 620 minutes walking and/or stepping

10/1: 40 minutes walking/ 5 minutes stepping/ 45 minutes down

I have been trying to get some exercise in since starting the program (IP) so this board will be my new kick in the pants!

My goals:
1. Some form of exercise for at least 45 minutes per time 3x a week.
2. Meet with personal trainer.
3. Try one new/different form of exercise.

Hi guys!

My goal is to walk/run 6 out of 7 days a week.
And to do 3 circuit workouts a week.

This week is kind of hard since it's starting on a tuesday, so I am going to start that officially next week. But this week I am just going to make sure I do something every day.. whether it's just a walk/run.. I may do a circuit workout on Thursday. ;P

Gardenerjoy-- I need to modify my wording. A dear buddy here pointed out that with the weather turning to Fall etc, that it might be better to challange myself to the EQUIVALENT of 30 mins a day of walking for me for October. That way if it's nasty one day, and I miss that day, then if I walk 60 mins the next day, I'll still average out good. (averaged 30 min a day x 31 days is 930 mins walking for me for Oct for my goal). Can you modify that for me?

10/3: I'm not counting this toward exercise but I was helping a friend move today and I was on my feet for hours, up and down stairs, out to the truck and back, carrying boxes and totes and furniture. That is the reason I did not walk or step today. My feet are aching, lol!

Yay! I met today's goal!

03: Walked during AM & PM break despite a horrible wind. I went to the gym after work and walked 2.01 miles on the treadmill (40 minutes 53 seconds), then as an extra did 2 minutes on the elliptical. That thing is trying to kill me! LOL

03: Walked during AM & PM break, 2.01 miles on the treadmill (40 minutes 53 seconds), then as an extra did 2 minutes on the elliptical

I'm concerned I may not make my goal this month. As the weather turns colder, I'm just having a harder time. I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalsia, so it's becoming more difficult. I like the path walking, but I do not like stepping as an alternative. I thought it would be a good idea for when I couldn't walk outside but it hurts my hips, so I don't know. We'll see how the rest of the month goes!

Correction: I should have written Leslie Sansone (not Sansome). If you google "Walk Away the Pounds", you'll no doubt find some videos on You Tube and you can see what you think. She's very perky and motivational, and her walking videos are quite easy to follow.

Tuscany, I cannot thank you enough! I love her videos! I did one this morning. It was only about 15 minutes, so I kept walking until I reached 20 minutes. I then found a Part 2 to the one I did and so I may do them both together tonight. If I did them both each day, that would give me 30 minutes of walking a day instead of the 20 minutes I had set as my goal. I noticed she has a 3-mile walk with weights video and a 5-mile walk with weights video too. Maybe I can eventually build up to those. I am just so thrilled! I could hug you right now! :hug:

Our town is having a huge pumpkin festival downtown this week and since I live just a couple of blocks away, I walk down. So, I should be getting plenty of walking in over the next few days. Maybe I'll be able to catch up on some minutes for the days I didn't do any exercise this month! I walked for 4 hours today, but I'm giving myself credit for 1 hour since it wasn't a brisk pace except for the two blocks to and from my house. I'm exhausted all the same!

So I've been doing really good up until yesterday... I have been walking 6 out of 7 days so far, but... Monday night we had to put one of our foster kittens down, and yesterday I was just so depressed I didn't feel like walking, so I ended up taking two days of a break this week already :|

I also quit on the circuit workouts, I haven't even attempted one yet this whole month O.O

But I was thinking I was doing good by walking daily.. Saturday I ended up doing a 4.6 mile walk because we got lost in the woods, which was scary since it was dark out >.< But happy Halloweeen!!! right?

Savemykissex: so sorry about your kitten. That is such a sad thing.
My single most effective combatant against depression is taking a walk. It's especially helpful, if I remember to do it, after a traumatic event because it gives a place for all that adrenalin to go. Sometimes it takes several walks, but only the first one is hard. Once that's out of the way, you'll know if another walk will help.

I didn't get any walking in yesterday. My year-old grandson was sick and my son asked if I would come watch him while he and his wife were at work since they didn't want to send him to daycare. Loved every minute of it! But they live about 2 hours north from our house with rush hour traffic. Then I had to drive from there to a town that is an hour southwest from our house and pick up my daughter who had come in with her fiance from Indiana with only one car. That had been planned before my grandson got sick. So I was up at 5:30 yesterday morning, and didn't get home till after 9 pm last night, at which time I had to start cooking in preparation for people who were coming in today. However, my daughter and I went on a brisk hour walk this morning before the rain started. I decided to do the Leslie Sansone videos again tonight, not because I'm just so motivated now, but because I was cold and wanted to warm up. This is quite a change for me because in seasons past, I always ate in an attempt to stay warm, yet tonight it didn't even cross my mind. Exercising did. Wow!

I didn't want to sweat tonight... I was having a good hair day! But I really wanted to meet my goal since I failed last month, so I decided to go slow and get those last almost 4 miles. I've never trotted that far at one time before, but I did it. It wasn't really worse than 3 miles, although I might be moaning and groaning tomorrow.
