I'm not sure where I want to be, weight-wise, until I see where I send up each month. What sort of eating-related goals do you guys try to set for yourselves?

DrivenByAmbition
09-28-2013, 10:34 AM
Staying on plan, meaning never eating more than dailies and weeklies. Only dipping into weeklies a certain amount of days a week. 1 splurge of eating out or fast food, or like a frosty.

Hi! I am in need of major accountability this month especially since October is the month of candy corn!! Goodness I love that stuff. Since March of this year I have been in the 170s. I once saw 172. Right now though I need to take baby steps to get to the magic 169. Weighed in this morning at 180.8. Won't be able to officially weigh in until Saturday mornings. Here's to being OP in October!

Update: Moving weigh in days to Thursday mornings.

SW: 180.8
Oct1: 179.4
Oct2: 178.2
Oct 5: 178.2 (had 2 slices of pizza and 2 glasses of wine with a friend last night. I have a feeling this is inflated from sodium and pizza goodness.)

I would love to join in as well. This is my third week on WW. It is also my second time around with the WW plan. I first started back in November 2011 and did well, especially during the holidays which was hard :dizzy:! I lost 20+ lbs by February and then quit because of finances. I tried to do it on my own and did okay for about 8 months of maintaining the 20 lb loss but then gained the 20 lbs back. I decided that I needed the accountability of meetings and weighing in. I will also be checking in here and seeking advice and soaking up all your knowledge! :)

Starting weight: 189.2 (9/28/13)

Hope I can lose 2lbs a week my weigh ins are Saturday.

Hello everyone, I hope all of you are doing good. I can't believe it is already the 8th and my birthday is a couple of weeks away. I am still looking forward to it even though I know I will over eat and probably have a gain. That is life, and since this is a lifestyle change and not a diet then things like that will happen.

PUPMOMS: I agree with you that paying money is a big motivator to stay on track. I have never heard of Dietbet....what is that all about?

DrivenByAmbition: I will be 52 in a few weeks and I have done the diet rollercoaster for so long. I lose and regain everytime that I have lost BUT I want this to be the last time that I lose this weight. I want to make lifetime so that I can have WW to help me stay on track. :)

NewMe (disclaimer: I've never participated in a DietBet) It's a website where a group of people can each go into their challenge and put, say, $20 up a piece into the pot. The challenge will be something like "Lost 4% of your body weight in a month" and if you succeed, you split the pot with all the winners.

Thanks! I am not. I get stuck every few weeks or so, usually around TOM and always around the next lowest decade. Its all good.

I made my hubs hide the scale last night, I get a bit obsessive!

I also have changed up my workout..added the dreaded evil elliptical trainer and cardio before and after the weight training. Here is to hoping!

I had Plantar Facitis a few years ago. It sucked! So I totally feel your pain.

When I started WW back in January, I didn't work out for the first few weeks maybe a month. I did sporty outdoors stuff on the weekends for a few months and probably about the 20lb list mark I started going to the gym.

Exercise makes me feel good. I am sure it us doing something as far as loss and toning (although I cannot see it) but I do it because I like the sweaty high I have after. Weird, I know.

fillupthesky
10-09-2013, 01:20 AM
omg it totally sucks. i'm originally from NYC, so i'm used to walking super fast. i'm at a snail's pace at the moment...lol

i know EXACTLY what you mean about the "high". I did weight watchers a couple years back and started doing couch to 5k. i loved running for the runner's high i'd get after about 20 minutes.

exercise definitely does something- what was your routine when you started going to the gym?

lazylioness
10-09-2013, 01:33 AM
When I first started, I would do 30 minutes on the recumbant bike about 4 times a week. Then about a month of that and I added weight training and 35 minutes.
When I first started I couldn't go 2 minutes on the elliptical, now I can do 30 pretty easy, and I do 3 miles in the treadmill. Sometimes c25k. I mix up my routine a lot, and if we are particularly busy outdoors with hiking or camping I take it easy at the gym. Summer we run at the beach. Although it's more of elephant walking lol!

My current routine is 33 minutes cardio on the elliptical, 30 weight training alternating zones daily, followed up with 30 cardio on the bike. Every. Single. Weekday.

Weekends are a 2 hour hike and/or 2 hour bike ride or kayak through the marina

Was also a plantar fasciitis sufferer for years. Then my husband read a book by Dr. John Sarno ...mind over back pain. My husband no longer suffers from back pain at all. And I no longer have P.F. or wrist pain which used to be debilitating. I did shoes/sneakers/PT...doctors upon doctors....now....nothing. I walk barefoot all the time. Flip flops all summer. Heels. Doesn't matter what I wear.

Worth a try?

I honestly don't remember what I did. I stayed off my feet as much as possible for about 6 months, and one day it was fine.

I still have bouts if foot pain, but nothing debilitating and much less often now that I have lost weight. I make sure I am kind to my feet, i put them through a lot! I stretch them every day, rub out any problem areas, and wear good shoes when walking or exercising.

Also ice packs help the pain once it starts.

Hope this helps

I got orthoics made, which did help (though not much). It went away for a while, but now it's back in full swing. A friend of mine got acupuncture for it and had good results, and another friend got a cortizone shot, which I hear is so unpleasant :(

I feel your pain, it definitely sucks.

I had plantar fasciitis as well a few years ago and it was horrible, so painful. Mine started when I upped my exercise routine from just walking to jogging as well and not wearing proper shoes. Oh man did I learn my lesson. I hate to say it, but it was probably a year before my feet finally felt normal again. I try to always wear shoe inserts or at least really good shoes, especially when exercising. I also think losing weight helps a lot too. I feel for anyone suffering from it, it really is painful. I tried multiple things I read online to help relieve the pain, but I don't really remember anything that really helped.

congrats everyone!

i've been posting my updated weight on my original post. i've lost just over 7lbs in two weeks, and WW suggested that i slow my weight loss down and eat more. i think it's just because i was eating SO much before and i do have a lot of weight to lose....whenever i've lost weight in the past, my first 3 -4 weeks always showed large losses, then it stabilizes.

anyone else have this happen in the beginning?

Yes! I have had this happen with everything I have done. Weight Watchers (which I follow as well) is a stickler for telling me to eat more when I have a woosh LOL. I ignore that part of it..because I will take it to heart and just eat eat eat! Just keep doing what you are doing and you will stabilize.

Now that sounds fun and interesting! Perhaps I shall check it out....not sure if my gym has a trampoline, but I can get one for the house..for those sitting around doing nothing times....

I LOVE jello legs!

thanks lioness! i definitely don't want to just eat if i'm not hungry.
i'll just keep doing what'm doing, eating throughout the day and keeping hydrated. i definitely feel satiated and not overly hungry.

Most people lose quickly in the beginning, especially when they have been eating poorly before starting WW. I wouldn't worry about it. I think I lost more quickly than WW wanted for months, but I spent my whole life pretty much binge eating.

That is what is supposed to happen!

I am always a bit amazed, that some days I cannot eat enough...never feel full. And some days, like yesterday I end up with 6 points at the end of the day, so I add some peanut butter just to make sure I am eating enough (especially on a heavy work out day) and I can barely choke it down because i am so NOT hungry.

I'm halfway to my goal of 240, hopefully by my official weigh in day, Friday, I will be down a little more. It's going to be a challenge to make it to 240 by the 31st. Not impossible, but definitely a challenge for me. I've been doing good on my exercise lately so maybe that will show on the scale soon.

Friday evening is usually my splurge day because I start my points over on Saturday. I sure splurged last Friday, but I don't think I went over my weekly points. It was hard to add them up because I was at a buffet.

I have to be extra good this week because this Friday is our final weigh in for our weight loss challenge at work. My weight has to be 247 or under in order for me to get any money and as of right now I am the only one who has hit the goal (5% in 6 weeks)! There are a couple of others who may hit goal this Friday though, then I'll have to split the pot with them. I guess I can share, but I don't really want to lol.

I hope everyone is doing well and staying on plan.

definitely was not eating well before, like 2 really big meals and not so good for you snacks. i struggled with bingeing for a long time as well. i stopped a little while back, which has helped, but i still overate soooooo much.

That is what is supposed to happen!

i'm trying to get used to not being hungry all the time. eating throughout the day has helped so much. i work 4 10 hour shifts, so i bring a lot of food to work. my co workers think i'm nuts. by the time i get home, i'm hungry enough for dinner and call it a day :)

I think the best thing about WW is you can adapt it for your lifestyle.

yes YES YES and YES again...in case I was not clear.

I LOVE Weight Watchers. Seriously. I have done other "diets"...and they are ALL too restrictive. I do not like that I cannot even BREATHE a carb or a scoop of ice cream, or take a sip of wine without totally derailing everything or having to "reboot" for two weeks.

UGH that was SO annoying.

Even calorie counting was a pain in the butt. But Weight Watchers..I love. I can mostly eat "normal" and do not have to feel at all weird ordering out and only eating parts of the meal.

Plus...this is going to sound a bit snarky...BUT...you guys here on WW are so much less "cranky" than on other boards. I read some other posts on other diets and MAN those people are sometimes just need to relax! HAHA

Seriously right!?!?!
I also notice that a lot of those people (myself included) gain everything back 2 seconds after they switch to Phase 3, or maintenance or whatever term any particular diet uses for "you reached goal now you can eat whatever" phase.

I love that Weight Watchers just works with life. The new commercial cracks me up, because it is SO me. I am at the point I can have a cupcake just not the WHOLE cake.

My biggest revelation has been this: there is no "going back" to the way of eating I had for most of my life. Eating that way will get the results I had, which is morbidly obese, unhealthy and unhappy. This is my forever. And you know what? I am totally happy with it.

the positive energy here is really awesome- i look forward to reading posts here when i get home from work.

i think the reason why WW is working for me now (and has in the past) is because there is a good balance of structure and flexibility. too much structure causes me to feel deprived and totally derail off plan, while too much flexibility makes me feel like i have no idea what i'm doing.

i'm also hoping that this will be the last time i lose weight. i just want to be healthy, and have how i feel about myself on the inside be congruent with how i feel on the outside.

lets keep it going!!

I know this will be the last time I lose weight!

Sure I would love to take a day off from the gym, or logging everything I eat. But this crap is hard and I am lazy! Lol. Don't want to work this hard again!

I tell my husband I am a "try everything once, twice if I like it" kinda girl. I tried being fat, didn't like it. Tried losing 200 lbs, didn't like it. So, I do this once, that's it!

Currently I am staring at the lowest weight I have been in at least 7 years. My goal weight scares me to be honest. I have not weighed that since high school, and even then my mom was telling me I was fat. I don't know if I can reach that goal, but I am sure going to try!

mandydawn77

I agree with all of you. WW's is a great plan and much easier to stick with for life because of itís flexibility.

lazylioness - You crack me up, but you're right losing weight is hard and I don't want to have to do this all over again either. I promised myself many years ago that I would never let myself hit 300 pounds again and I did and I was miserable. The lowest weight I ever remember being is 217 and that was back when I got pregnant with my daughter in 1998. I was a kid the last time I weighed under 200 pounds and so I don't have a clue what it feels like or what I'll look like. I set my goal at 175 and I will be completely amazed if I can make it that far, if I do get there I may want to lose more. Right now my goal is to hit that 100 pounds lost mark, which I'm almost there. After that my big goal is to go under 200. For me, that will be a miracle. Back before I started losing weight in the late 1990's I don't even know what my highest weight was. I'm pretty sure it was even higher than 336, but 336 was what I got up to before I started this journey in 2011. It has taken me a long time to get to where I am, but I had fallen off the diet wagon and gained back 25 pounds. I restarted my journey this past June and I'm just thankful I started back when I did because I was going up fast! I really, really hope I can make it to my goal and stay on a plan like WW's for life. I obviously can't maintain my weight loss without some kind of plan. I go hog wild and do things like eat a whole package of chips ahoy cookies. I have no self control once I get started. Binge eating is a big problem for me.

Anyway, I didn't mean to write a book. I was just reading through the last few comments on this thread and found myself agreeing with everyone and wanted to join in lol.

Tomorrow is the last day of our current weight loss challenge here at work. I have surpassed my goal of 5% loss in six weeks. As of last week I was the only one who had made it, but I think two more of my fellow coworkers have now met the goal. That means the pot will be split three ways. That's still over $100 each so I guess I can be happy with that :) Our final weight for this challenge will be our beginning weight for our next challenge. We are immediately starting another six week challenge, but I think it's going to be a winner takes all. These challenges at work have been a godsend. I know I wouldn't be doing as well as I am if it wasn't for them. This website helps me out a lot as well. I need all the support I can get.

Mandydawn, binge eating is a huge problem for me too, especially when it comes to sweets or pizza. I really like keeping sugar free Jello double chocolate pudding cups in the house - they're 2 pts, I won't binge things that are prepackaged into servings, and they're a pretty good chocolate fix.

AWESOME for winning! Even split three ways is awesome!

Ours is a winner take all 3 month challenge based on % loss (of course). $50 buy in. So depending on how many people join....I could make a pretty penny :)

Hopefully I am not at a disadvantage as by that time I will have been losing for a year, and SHOULD be almost 100lbs down...so the people that are just starting will have those glorious early diet "wooshes"...but if they can maintain for three months...I do not know.

Money is a big motivator for me :)

I feel the same way about our challenge starting in January because there are some that have been wanting to join us this past challenge and we didn't feel it would be fair because they would have an advantage, but we told them starting January they could join us. We originally just wanted to keep it within our department, but that never happens lol. Both of our challenges have been the same top 3. We have really worked our butts off (literally lol). For example, the first go round was 12 weeks and the entire group (9 women) lost a total of 106 pounds - the three of us alone lost 89 pounds. This go round there were 8 in the group and we lost 59 total and the top 3 had lost 39 of that. So, since June 14th we have lost 165 pounds as a group and the three of us alone have lost 128 of those pounds. It has always been us three that are in major competition, but anyone could come in and kick our butts if they would just try. Some of them just pay in their money and don't even try. We work for the state of Oklahoma and trust me when I say we make well below the average pay and we all live paycheck to paycheck and I will not throw away my money like that. I'll keep taking their money, but I don't understand it, they just get on the scale and keep relosing and regaining the same couple of pounds and just shrug their shoulders like they don't care at all. Two of them have tried to lose and it just seems harder for them, they are exercising like crazy and eating healthy so I don't understand why they aren't losing more. One lost 3.66% though so that wasn't bad. I was hoping she would make it because I know she tried hard.

Headed to LA today for our monthly "family day of culture". My kids are all grown up now 22,19,15 but since they were wee tots we have tried to take one day a month and do something not related to "pop culture". No movies (unless they are a super cool educational type IMAX documentary) no tv or video games. Needless to say this has allowed my kids to have a good appreciation for things other than what is "trendy".

On the agenda for today, California Science Center to see the Space Shuttle, birthday request of the eldest, who happens to want to break the stereotype of scientists and hotty California girls by being a hotty astro physicist. Lol

This trip will be a lot of low intensity walking, lots of "easy" activity points.

Sometimes, the dinner is worth the temporary gain...as long as it is temporary ;)

Have you tried stretching your foot? There are also some braces you can get at a sporting goods store that you wear when you sleep, they kind of keep your foot flexed and those tendons keep from cramping up.You may want to check it out.

No, it is like a sling thing, it wraps around your foot and calf, and keeps your foot flexed. They have them at most sporting goods stores, or you can order them online, I will see if I can find a link. PM me and I will get it to you.

I was up this morning to 240.2, but that's okay because I know it can't be down every single day. I knew it was bound to go up or stay the same sometime soon. I've had great losses lately and have no complaints. I know if I keep on doing what I've been doing it will go back down and eventually go down even farther :)

Hope you all have a fabulous day!

Weighing in today instead of tomorrow. "Cheating" a bit because we had a fantastic fall dinner consisting of braised short ribs, mashed potatoes garlic green beans wine and pumpkin mousse chocolate cake. Not sure what that will do to my scale lol!!!

So this mornings weigh in was 244.6

Ugh! I hate it when it doesn't stick! I saw 243 earlier in the week, just a glimpse but I saw it. Hopefully now that TOM is done, and I can work our again I will have a woosh by Thursday.

That's awesome Sara!

I was out of control this weekend and the scale reflected it this morning @ 242.2 :(

I am back on plan today and plan on getting it back down to at least 240 by Thursday to meet my goal for the month! I can't believe I saw a glimpse of 238 last week and now up 4 pounds...ugh

How is everyone this afternoon?? I've been MIA, my laptop crashed and my boss was here all last week so I couldn't use my work computer for personal use :(. I'm hoping to get a new laptop by the end of this week :carrot:

I went last Thursday to purchase a Halloween costume for a party on Saturday and I was not a happy camper!! Those things are so mis-sized!! I tried on about 5 costumes of different sizes before I settled on a "Plus size 18-20"!!

I did have a better experience on Saturday. I can actually fit in to some size 12 pants and Large tops!!! :):):)

Starting weight: 189.2 (9/28/13)
October Goal: 181.2 (8lbs lost)

10/5: 187.0 (-2.2)
10/12: 185.2 (-1.8)
10/19: 182.6 (-2.6)
10/26: 181.0 (-1.6) Total lost so far for October (8.2)

I won't weigh again until November 2nd since I go to meetings on Saturdays.

woohoo on the size 12's!

Yes Halloween costumes are mis-sized. I suspect it is so that only a certain type of girl is seen wearing them! (actually i do not really think that but it does make sense!)

LOL!! I agree with what you are saying....some of those costumes are so skimpy and ridiculous that this 52 year old would not be caught dead in them!! :o

The funny thing about the size 12's, I took 14's into the dressing room and could not believe they were too big. I have some 12's in a storage tote from 4 years ago so when I got home I ran to garage and hauled that plastic tote to my room and was so excited to try them on...they are still to small!! Oh well, maybe after November :D

I am convinced that it is all vanity sizing!! The designers want us to think we are buying a smaller size....not fair....haha

There is a interesting thread on Spark People it is titled "How much do you weigh and what size do you wear?" It is crazy how someone who weighs what I weigh wears a different size than me...I know alot has to do with body types too...lol

lazylioness

Yes, it is vanity sizing. And what sucks is the sizes seem to change every few years lol.

I have a pair of pants in sizes 18-24(3x) and they all fit! Annoying.

Maybe some brands stay the same. When I got into now 14s last time I could fit my ones from 6 years ago as well.
