Question Exercise Question (specifically about a 5K)

I know on IP we aren't suppose to really work out much, or do much intensity work outs, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with doing a 5K while on IP? I promised my best friend last year that I would do the 5K at our school's homecoming long before I knew anything about IP. I don't want to let her down, but I also don't want to mess myself or my progress up. Any advice?

Hi Deana,
Walking the 5k should be fine at least it is for me. My husband and I walk that almost every Sunday. Walking at a comfortable pace where you are not out of breath.

I'm an IP exerciser! I believe the general conscensus is NO exercise in the first two weeks...after that, listen to your body, if you have the energy to do it then go for it...but add an extra (non restricted) protein pack on days you exercise. That's what I do and it works for me. Good luck!

Not everyone needs more packets...I am small and did not...Alisson also did not generally use extra protein because she was close to goal and like me, she is another vertically challenged IP-er! Everyone is different.

I was training for a 5k after 4 months of IP. I had been afraid to exercise because I knew it might slow down my weight loss and I am results driven. I was 15lbs from goal and my weight loss slowed but I noticed minor changes in inches so when I would go to weigh in I would show a slight (1lb) gain or no change but my hips and waist were shrinking...When the intensity of my training increased my weight loss stopped. In August, I was injured and had to stop running after 10 weeks of training and I went back to IP only and the weight loss picked up...however with being injured my will power went down the tubes so I gained 4lbs from not following protocol 100% over the last 8 weeks. I can't wait to run again because it made it easier to stay on track--the exercise was a mood booster for me and I wasn't turning to food to make myself feel better.
