100 lb. Club - Valentine's/ 150 Day Challenge Anyone?

Monday September 16 is exactly 150 days until Valentine's day. I've decided to give myself a longer term challenge because I think it may keep me focused. Anyone in? Tell me what your goal is, what you're doing, what you're planning to reward yourself with.... Doesn't have to be a weight thing. Can just be an on plan or Fitness goal too!

So here's MY plan for the next 150 days:

80/20 balance: I want to be on plan most of the time, but I'm not going to beat myself up for things like Christmas

Minimum 1000 minutes of exercise per month, would prefer 1500

Ideally I would like to lose 35 pounds in this time frame (this is 21 weeks give or take, so that's just over a pound a week. This would put me at about 344.

Care to join me?


Oh. And if I make it... I'm banking my money right now for the ultimate do not need but oh so want luxury.... A Kate Spade purse.

Great guys!

I actually just spent the last hour choosing a new food journal. I've been using myplate on livestrong, and may still go back to it, but it's calorie counts are way out to lunch a lot of the time. I'm playing around with calorie counter now. I'm also going to be way more careful with my portions

Let me know if you find one that is accurate and that you like. I have played around with so many of them and I find that I spend so much time correcting nutritional values or searching for matches. I always end up back with my old notebook. :)

I'm currently test driving calorie count, both the app and the online sight. I did a control experiment with lunch (eating only things with nutritional info on the package and measuring my portions, and livestrong is lower than calorie count by close to 400 calories, and almost all the info is off, Calorie count so far is pretty close, but the interface is taking some getting used to.

Calorie count also lets you set non weight and non nutrient goals too.

Oh wow. My long term goal is to hit my goal on June 1st ... when my husband gets back from overseas. I have what my weight needs to be each day in order to get there. I don't expect holidays to be too much trouble, my family knows better than to interfere with this diet ... they've watched me derail too many times to every say, "But surely you can have one teensy little candy cane!"

So my goal for Valentines day is 156 pounds. Just under 50 pounds of weight loss in 150 days, or two and a third pounds a week. Ambitious I know but so far I've been hitting my targets with no issues so I'm not ready to revise my goals just yet.

So I'm on board. I'll have to think of a great reward, I definitely approve of your Kate Spade bag! I'll be traveling overseas on March 1st to visit my husband so if I reach my goal maybe I'll get something while I'm there, some stylish boots maybe.

I am interested in joining this challenge. I've been seeing the same three pounds for over two months now. I really need to focus on nutrition and step up the time I spend exercising. I am currently at 185, I would like to lose 30 pounds by Valentine's day. I will weigh in on Monday's.

I'm in.

Weight Goal: Lose at least 35 pounds (and more is ok) as that will put be at having lost over 100 pounds.......or I should say, the first 100 pounds.
Exercise: Go to the gym at least 4 days a week. Do my yoga at home. Walk and gradually build up to walking at least 2 miles by Feb 14.
Eating Goal: Stop the night time snacking habit!

I'm in!

I'm set to lose 1.5lbs a week (my fitness pal) but currently I'm losing more like 2/2.5 however I have no idea how long that will continue. I guess I should be conservative in my goal so:

CW:308.8
Valentines day goal: lose 30-40lbs (more would be fab) for a weight of 278.8-268.8.

Weigh in days for me are Fridays.

I'm in! We're going to Disney at the end of February and a Valentine's Challenge would be just the thing. I'm going to set my goal at 20 pounds. My weight loss this last two months have been soooooo sloooooooow. Since I'm 100+ pounds over weight I should be dropping faster, but I'm nt so... anyhow.

So, my goals are 2250 of exercise by Valentines Day
20 pounds by valentines day.
I weigh daily, but my Weight Watchers meeting is on Friday and I consider that my official weight.

Great idea! I love a long term challenge! My losses have slowed significantly, and I have a trip to Disneyland in early December, so I'm setting my goal at 1.5 pounds per week, so a total loss of 33 pounds in 22 weeks - this will put me within 20 pounds of goal!!!

My official weigh ins are on Saturdays, so I've adjusted my dates a little bit.

This is a great idea! I put on a shirt today that I bought a couple years ago when I saw Mary Poppins live. It's a pink v-neck tee that says "Practically Perfect". I was clearly in denial when I bought an XL at 250+ pounds. Tried it on today and technically it fits, but a little too snug. I'll take a pic tomorrow to track progress.

I'm excited for this challenge! I have been struggling with some serious back issues for the last few months, but I got the go ahead to start walking. I want to lose 50 pounds as a lofty goal. I think it's doable. Since I'm at my highest weight ever, I'm hoping it will come off more quickly at the beginning.

Thanks for posting this Jane. I had not taken pictures since January so it was a good reminder. I never even thought about a "progress picture shirt". Today I found a tight shirt with tiny sleeves that I would never wear in public. I took 27 selfies this morning; about 1/3rd were thigh up. OMG! I was deluding myself that losing 40 lbs made me look so much better and that I was carrying my weight so well. What truly amazes me is that looking in the mirror at myself and then looking at the pictures that I took in the same mirror seemed to add lots of fluff that I am just not seeing. I am completely baffled by this, but it was definitely a wake up call!

Darn it.. Instead of having less weight to lose (after 1 week)..I have added to my amount needed to lose :( gggrrrrrrr ...

I have a dress that I can just bbbbarrrrreeellllyyyyy squeeze into.. I want to where it soooooo bad (I made it 8 years ago and wore it once to a baseball game and met Tom Lasorda and he said I looked cute oh that made my day and I have not been able to wear it since)... My goal clothing!

Thanks for posting this Jane. I had not taken pictures since January so it was a good reminder. I never even thought about a "progress picture shirt". Today I found a tight shirt with tiny sleeves that I would never wear in public. I took 27 selfies this morning; about 1/3rd were thigh up. OMG! I was deluding myself that losing 40 lbs made me look so much better and that I was carrying my weight so well. What truly amazes me is that looking in the mirror at myself and then looking at the pictures that I took in the same mirror seemed to add lots of fluff that I am just not seeing. I am completely baffled by this, but it was definitely a wake up call!

This happens to me all the time. I tend to forget that even though 100 pounds is quite an accomplishment, I still have nearly 200 to go!!!!

I'm down .7 today. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come!

Radiojane, AWESOME challenge idea! Count me in!

To be honest, I've never been all that successful in the weight loss challenges (I've joined several :o), but I've also never given up. I seem to do just enough to maintain. Couldn't ask for a better time to reassess why things aren't working and what I'm doing to contribute to ongoing failure/stalls/restarts. I am the proverbial work in progress.

Valentine’s day seems so far away, but I think I need a long term goal like this to keep me in check. The holidays, particularly Christmas and New Year’s, are big weight gainers for me. Last year I gained 11lbs over Christmas! Not to mention I completely fell of the exercise band wagon. I think having a plan that goes past Christmas will keep me focused. I’d also like to lose 35lbs by then

I'm up 0.6 from last week. I know exactly what my problem is. I haven't been eating! I am never hungry at all until the afternoon, so I rarely eat breakfast or lunch unless I force myself to. Then when dinner rolls around, I'm starving and I end up binging.

I'm trying something new this week. I'm going to have my planned dinner for breakfast, then a big lunch. And then my smoothie and oatmeal or whatever I should have eaten for breakfast, I will have for dinner. I've always heard eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and breakfast like a pauper. I really, really need to get my metabolism moving, and I think this will help!

The last time i was 210 lbs was when I was 18 years old. I will be turning 38 on Feb 10th. My goal is, by that week (same week as Valentine's) to be back to 210lbs. I am currently 259lbs. So I need to lose 49lbs by then. I am therefore aiming for 2.45lbs per week

I'm holding steady at 375, which I think must be a miracle, because I've had to go to dinners with family for the last two nights and still have three more to go!

I have noticed over the last few weeks that every other week I will lose small or even gain some but then the next week I will have a big whoosh. That is strange. I guess Ill keep an eye on it and see if it keeps up. Its a loss though so Ill take it. Also made another mini goal. I am now no longer morbidly obese I am just obese. WOOHOO.

Congrats SouthernBelle! It's always so great being in a new weight class.

I'm having that same thing with weight loss, alternating big weeks with small ones. Is it hormonal or just luck of the draw?

Whatever it is, I'm a little stalled out at the moment so I am really hoping that next week will make up for lack luster results this week.

I'm not even going to log this week. My weight has been all over the place this week, according to today I'm up 4 or 5 pounds. I haven't eaten the best over the last week but I know I didn't eat anywhere enough to actually gain 5 pounds! Of course next week is TOM so who knows what will happen, hopefully it'll at least go back to 304 so I can feel better and stop worrying I'm somehow eating thousands of extra calories in my sleep...

I am refocusing... I lost about 13 pounds in August and September but then lost focus and gained back 4 pounds. But I am back on and would love to stay in your challenge. I am going to change my goals to 2 pounds a week.

Hi Everyone - I've been so busy I didn't even realize I had lost 5 lbs! Maybe that's one of the secrets. Keep extremely busy but stay on plan. I weigh every morning but didn't pay too much attention to the numbers. I hope everyone perseveres. We can do this!

As of this morning I'm back to where I was, what 2 weeks ago? 304.6. I suppose considering I'm currently in the middle of TOM, I went on a mini beach vacation earlier in the week where I ate what I wanted (Chickfila, cheeseburgers, coconut rum, lots of birthday cupcakes, etc), and I'm in the middle of a move which is stressing me out and making me crave fried chicken and Chinese food, I'm not doing too bad..... I'm back on the wagon today though so hopefully next week will show a drop...

Hello all. Pretty decent week for me. I need to exercise more, but it was a very busy work week for me. I dressed up as a pregnant nun for Halloween (husbands idea, he was the priest.), and all I did was look like my old fat self in the pictures. I'm glad it was just the pillow!

Lost 5 lbs this week! Hard to believe I could lose that much but I'm averaging out to 2.25 a week which is just about right. I try to keep distracted and not get discouraged during the lulls and so far it has paid off. I hope I can keep losing at this pace but I guess at some point it may start to slow down.

Good luck to everyone and keep up the good work. My Christmas present to myself is to get through the holidays without losing any ground -and also my yet to be delivered mini-trampoline :)

Hello all. Another good week for me. I went to Phoenix Arizona with my family for a little mini vacation over the weekend. We went to body technology's and went into the bod pod to measure fat. It was interesting and I was down to 209.8 pounds. It was very educational and exciting to see how much weight I've lost. You all have a good week!

I'm so glad things are looking a little better today. Things are going well for me. I am doing mostly calorie counting and increasing exercise. Like many around here, I have lost a lot of weight in the past only to gain it all back and more. This board has really helped this time - posting keeps me honest and I've kept busy trying other people's advice and suggestions. I don't think I've ever lost more than 30 lbs - and I'm still motivated after 40 lbs!

Pearlfit! You are doing so well! I too am counting calories and walking every day. Luckily I have a new puppy to keep me active. I had some really dark days this last week but the difference has been I am not eating for comfort. I have been looking at everyone's numbers. It is really interesting that there seems to be no real pattern to weight loss. Some weeks are big losses some are smaller. Have a wonderful week!

I'm starting to peruse the boards looking for everyone's ideas about how to handle the holidays. I hadn't been too concerned because I got through Halloween without any problem (btw - I loved scarletmeshell's post back then - "Really it says fun size but you have to have more than one to have any fun at all" that cracked me up and it's so true!) Now as Thanksgiving is upon us I'm not sure exactly what my plan is. I love the advice I find on these boards.

Enjoyed reading on another thread about the NSV at the store scarletmeshell - yay! :)

So I've been ridiculously busy with my new job, new apt and I've been eating horribly (and lack wifi) but somehow I've managed to not only not gain weight but lose a little I'm down to 297! I've been awful about calorie counting but I'm back on track and hopefully will still meet my goal for Valentines day...

SMSDREAMER2007 - thanks for the advice on limited starches. On the Christmas challenge weigh in today I've gained .3 this week. I think I've been slacking on watching the carbs/starches and the scales showed it today. Monday is my weigh in for this challenge so I'm hoping some of that comes off.

I've seen conversations where people feel that there is a certain weight that their body doesn't seem to want to get past. As I stared at the 236 on the scale all week I had deja vu. I think this is right about where I stopped the other times I lost 30+ lbs (maybe 3 years ago and 10 years ago). I think/hope posting on this board will make the difference getting past the dreaded 230's.

Normally I would not be excited about a 1 pound loss. However since my last wiegh in I had a thanksgiving dinner, went out to eat twice, and had a few slip ups. At one point my wieght was up to 219 so I am thrilled to loose even 1 pound! When Valentines day gets here we need to decide as a group to make our new challenge!

Well... I was getting a little discouraged lately because my weight was creeping up and I was more hungry than usual. Then this weekend came and I'm down 5 lbs! I didn't eat much a couple days because I was sick but mostly I just stayed on plan and jumped on my rebounder every day.

I'm really excited because I now am obese! Not morbidly obese... almost out of the dreaded 230's - I don't think I've seen the 220's in 10 or 15 years.

Looking back, I do think my creeping carb count was causing the problem. I was hungry and unhappy for a couple weeks. I was staying within my calorie goal but when I was starving I was grabbing regular protein bars or granola bars which I had been avoiding. No more of that. I did order some Quest bars that a lot people talk about. I'll let you know if they are helpful.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone - stay healthy :) and yes, scarletmeshell we need to plan for a new spring challenge. I've fallen off the wagon many times right about this weight but feeling accountable to this group is making all the difference this time!

Wow, I've gone from losing 2.5 pounds a week to less than 1.5. Learning to accept that things are not always going to happen the way I want them to is just part of the process. Slow weight loss is better than no weight loss, and no weight loss is better than a gain.

My weight is up but I haven't been too off-plan. I am optimistically expecting a whoosh sometime soon... I think my -5 lbs last week was a little too good to be true. Probably was a little dehydrated or something. Anyway, hope everyone had a nice holiday and time to get back in the saddle for me.

Hi Everyone,

I have lost 43.4 pounds since September 16. Would like to lose an additional 39 pounds to be the weight I was in graduate school. Enjoying the challenge. Been having a lot of nausea lately. I am not sure if it hurts or helps.

I am so glad this was a long term challenge. I just realized I think I had joined it and voila! And I seem to be on track to hit goalish, if my rate stays the same. Either way, the smaller I get, more yay!

Hi Folks,

I am up a pound this week. I was losing like crazy, so I can hardly complain.

I got cleared by my doctor to ease back into exercise. I have been away from the gym for almost 3 weeks due to a respiratory infection that left me totally sidelined. I usually average about an hour of cardio a day. I miss it most for the mental health effects. It is a big factor in dealing with stress in my life. I noticed I am much crankier without it.

So far I have lost 53 pounds and have 30 to go to meet my valentines goal It may or may not be doable, but all I can do is what I can do.

I lost 4 pounds this week. I have lost a total of 56 pounds and have 27 to go to meet my goal. There is nothing magic about the number. It is the weight I was in grad school (1988)

Hi Folks,

Hope you are enjoying the New Year. I will be enjoying mine much more when I take my last final of the semester on January 8. Yahoo!!!

This is the second holiday season since my husband died suddenly. It was definitely more challenging than the first! Food wasn't the issue so much as I just felt sad. The -45 wind chills the last week or so are not helping!

I gained 1 pound this week. I have lost a total of 55 pounds and have 28 to go to meet my goal. It will be the weight I was in grad school (1988).

I am so close to my Valentine's goal I can smell it. This is the first time ever that I will reach a challenge goal. Last night we went to my Mom's for dinner. I said to my daughter I really wish I could have some cake. She said have some Mom! I said no I wont. Tomorrow is my weigh in day and I have my Valentines challenge! I'm proud of myself. Congratulations to Donna and Scarlet for reaching Onederland. What a milestone!!!:carrot::carrot::carrot::D I am so excited for you.

I lost another 4 pounds this week and have 15 pounds to go to reach my Valentine's goal. Probably not going to happen. but I am happy with the 68 pounds I have lost so far in this challenge!! Scarlet, this is the first time I have really followed through with a challenge. It feels awesome:)

I am in the Onderland by Christmas 2014 Challenge. I am still in the 300's and have a long way to go. I would love to join any challenge folks come up with here. I really like this group.

Thank you Scarlett, and Dee, I've bounced up and down between 201 and 199 for a month now but have suddenly whooshed a bit. Tweaked my diet a bit and it seems to have worked (for now anyway - what i have learned is that tweaking the diet and exercise has to happen and sometimes you get the tweek right other times not so much!

What about a July 4th challenge? I realize other countries don't celebrate this but it is kind of mid summer?

We should start a July 4th challenge right after the Valentine one is done. My June goal is 172 which will be 100 pounds lost in a year. Hopefully I'll get there and 4th of July will be a good target to aim for.

Hi Folks,

I like the idea of a July 4 challenge. I really need the support!!! My husband died suddenly over the July 4 holiday weekend in 2012. I am already dreading it on a daily basis. Just got through what would have been his 59th birthday last week. I had lunch with his daughters and sister. Like him, they are very nice people. I need something to occupy my mind. right now it is weight loss and school.

I lost 5 pounds this week and have 10 pounds to lose to reach my goal. Probably will not make it, but close does count!!!

Scarlet, I'm down to 194 this morning. Yesterday I focused on getting a lot of water in. I tend to not want to drink when it is cold outside. I might just brew some hot tea over the day!!

I have been doing the up and down thing lately. Not really that motivated but keep at it anyways.

Scarlet, I like your suggestion. I am working on Valentine's Day right now. Plan to get my hair conditioned and colored the day before and have a facial and makeup application Valentine's Day. Just did my nails tonight!
