Been awake since three and finally gave up at 4 so have been up for a while. It would be an afternoon nap kind of day except I'm going to a play this afternoon. Barb and I are going to see The Postmistress (http://www.1000islandsplayhouse.com/the-post-mistress/) in Gananoque. Should be fun - most things are if Barb is involved - and a good way to spend a drippy Saturday afternoon.
The Cafe and Mill are OPEN today. There is a big motorcycle event down in the park today - not Hells Angels but a group of retired folk who love vintage bikes. There were several requests for Mill Tours and for the Cafe to open so the manager and some volunteers are going with it. I did bake them the pineapple cake and also have lovely tomatoes to contribute but that's "it". I hope it's worth the effort. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow which does not bode well.
What's happening by you today? Any chance of an afternoon nap? (I wonder if I can sneak in a late morning nap.)
09-07-2013, 06:49 AM
I love naps, and would love to get one, but unfortunately am the only one in the family that does! I checked out that musical Ruth, and it looks great, hope you enjoy it!
I had been doing so good this week OP, and then my GI issues hit yesterday, and there went SBD! But, the scale went down another lb anyway so I guess I'll jump back on board today (just a wee bit apprehensive).
Yesterday's work was slow and not too exciting, let's hope today is the same. I originally talked to DH about going on hike today with the kids. There's still lots to do, but I must get in some play time as well!
Anyone with anything else exciting?!
09-07-2013, 06:57 AM
Good morning. I can smell coffee and DH is also making bacon. Delicious.
It's pretty much all chores and niggles here today. Looks like rain later so I probably won't be able to do anything outside, but I've got plenty of things to keep me busy. And maybe a nap will work in there too...
Ruth, enjoy your play! All my trips to Gananoque have involved hockey rinks...You mean there's more to that town? Who knew?
Natasha, great to hear about your job news.
Jekel, hope you feel better soon.
To all the other chicks, have a great day!
09-07-2013, 07:06 AM
 at Beth. Yup, I've never seen hockey in Gan - don't even know where the arena is! Gan has the 1000 Islands Playhouse with professional theatre, a big gambling casino outside of town, some great Victorian houses. let me know next time you wander up here - it's only 35 minutes from my place.
Tammy, poop on the GI issues. I had something similar last week which I tracked down to eating Scarlet runner beans - raw! I've only known about that allergy for the past 60 years!
We finally have some daylight here so I am about to take my tomatoes and cake over to the Mill cafe now to avoid getting sucked into anything for this day when we are supposed to be CLOSED!!! (I'll have to change my attitude if they rake in tons of money today.)
09-07-2013, 07:11 AM
Hmmm...I had to look up the scarlet runner beans...they (the flowers) are beautiful! I've never heard of them before.
09-07-2013, 07:18 AM
:coffee: The coffee is delicious this morning. Thanks, Ruthie. I know you're going to have a fun afternoon with Barb, she's a real hoot! The play sounds good, just don't let Barb recommend a "good" place to eat. (private joke.)
Tammy, sorry about your day yesterday, and I hope you are feeling much better now. It's looking like a great day for a hike, so go have some fun with your family! Next week at this time, we'll be getting ready to spend the day together, and I'm really looking forward to it! :)
Beth, I hope you can manage to eke out some "me" time today amidst your chores and niggles!
Natasha, congratulations on your new job! It will sure be a big change for you from your current job, but you'll finally be able to move to Massachusetts! I'm very happy for you and hope the move goes smoothly.
We have lots of sunshine and mild temperatures here today, so we'll probably try to get some outside work done. Yesterday while I was at Dad's, Jake worked out in the front flower bed and thinned out some perrenials and it looks great, and today he plans to prune our miniature crepe myrtles, so I'd better hang around to supervise that!
I heard that Macy's is having a big sale today, and I think this afternoon I'll go check it out and maybe finally use my gift card I almost forgot I had.
Have a Super Saturday, everyone!
09-07-2013, 07:57 AM
I have been up for awhile just could not sleep, bathroom is already cleaned and have laundry going and just enjoying the quiet for a bit before tackling the rest of the cleaning. Today will be super busy, College Football, Parade in town (DD2 will be in with Swim team), then Trenton Fest and DS is competing in Fireman's muster at 7 p.m. Better enjoy the quiet right now while I can :)
Ruth enjoy the play today
Twynn hope you are feeling better today and get some fun activity in before work
Beth enjoy your day
Cottage I love Macy's my favorite store to shop at.
Natasha congratulations on the job, I will go back and read the post for more details.
Have a wonderful Saturday!!!
09-07-2013, 09:42 AM
Good morning, thanks for all the well wishes. I haven't had a cold like this in quite sometime (I am in complete denial if this is actually a sinus infection) After the antibiotic cocktail I was on I cannot imagine getting sick lol.
Tammy I hope your stomach woes have passed.
Natasha congratulations!!!!! So do you get to drive a Porche? You must be so incredibly thrilled!!!!
Ruth and Pearlrose enjoy your outings
Linda have fun shopping!
Rough day with DS yesterday. He and his dad are fighting yet again. DS has been moody for a few days. Yesterday they had a "blow up" over the phone. I think DS needed to say what he did to his dad. We talked a lot yesterday and he does seem more like himself today.
I need to do my food prep for the week and vacuum the dog hair tumbleweeds. I would like to ride later, but my back is not co-operating today. I think I will use my spin bike or go for a walk.
Well my cup is empty time to get moving. Enjoy!
09-07-2013, 10:58 AM
Good morning, everyone!
Natasha: Congrats in the new job! How exciting!
We slept in very late this morning and DD refuses to leave my lap. I'm used to her sleeping this late from time to time, but the clingy bit is unusual. Hopefully she's not getting sick! I'm going to have to make her get up soon; Mama hasn't even had her coffee yet!
Ruth: Have a fabulous time at the play!
, Tammy! Hope you get a great hike in! I've been dealing with some GI issues, but I'm hoping getting OP will correct them.
Beth: Good morning! I echo Linda's sentiments! Get some "me" time if you can!
Linda: I hope you have a nice day and find something great at Macy's. I always have a problem spending gift cards. I have a few in my wallet that I have no idea what to spend on.
Pearl: Oh my goodness! What a busy day you have in store! I hope you have a day of R&R planned for tomorrow.
Jennifer: I hope DS has a better day today now that it seems things have been aired out with his Dad. We vacuumed dog hair tumbleweeds yesterday, so we're good until tomorrow. Have a great day!
DH has breakfast just about ready and DD has decided to evacuate my lap, so I can finally get my cuppa! :coffee:
I'm still working on catching up on the laundry today and I have to drive down to the next town over to pick up my co-op produce basket. It's our first week participating and I'm very excited! Other than that, nothing big planned here. We had company four times in August, with only one weekend to ourselves, so we're definitely ready for a restful, unplanned weekend!
Have a great day!
09-07-2013, 11:40 AM
Good morning :coffee2:. Just under the wire but we are just having breakfast and coffee. Had a couple of very challenging nights so we are grabbing sleep when we can. It's a lovely day here and we are going to get out and enjoy it as much as we are able. Can't let these early fall days slip by :)
Natasha - congratulations! We definitely have to get together once you are in MA and settled.
Kim - I've been doing laundry catch-up too. We have enough clothes line for one load so it's one load a day until I'm caught up. Tomorrow should do it.
We didn't do phase 1.5 this week. Baked oatmeal with lots of fruit and flaxmeal was just perfect yesterday, so we are eating that again today. At least there are no off plan foods and my weight is slowly edging down. I knew some of it was water and I'm happy to see it go. I am thinking I don't need a strict Phase 1 again though. no real cravings. I will cut out grains again next week though, once things are back to a more normal pattern.
Hope your weekend has some time for fun and relaxation.
09-07-2013, 06:59 PM
Well, busy day for me, errands, and one of my not so favorite, buying dog food - I never know what kind to get.
Stayed on plan, tried a SF Fudge Pop today, pretty darn good. Tommorrow I will weigh in and take measurements. I feel good, so even if I haven't drop any, it is still all good.
We had hot and sticky weather today, so hope everyone had a good day.
09-07-2013, 07:07 PM
Afternoon, ladies! :) My dawgs are giving me a heart attack right now...I am not at all comfortable w/ just a 3 point lead in the 3rd quarter. My dawgs are NOT a second half team. Ugh.
Thanks for all your kind words. I am super excited (well, not THAT excited about the pretty drastic pay cut, LOL) to finally be moving to Massachusetts. It feels like I've been waiting FOREVER. Heck, I *have* been waiting forever!
So, just to kind of give some background, things went super quick w/ this job. I got a FB message from my roommate's ex-girlfriend saying there was a position open and, if I was interested, to send my resume in. I did so last Friday and got a message back that same day asking if I was available for an interview Tuesday morning at 10:30. I didn't get the message until Sunday b/c I was camping, but as soon as I got it I responded and told them I was interested. Did my interview Tuesday and got scheduled for a second interview w/ the hiring manager on Wednesday. Did that interview and she told me they "definitely" wanted to move forward in the hiring process w/ me and asked if I was available for a FaceTime interview w/ the owner Thursday morning. Thursday I interviewed via FaceTime w/ an interview panel who asked me to send in a writing sample for the owner to look over...once that was done I had a job offer w/in an hour.
cottage - I will definitely be continuing my pursuit of work in the 911 field. I am grateful for this job, but I know that my calling is in public safety. :)
Pearlrose - Sounds like you've got a busy day planned! Have a good one!
jekel - Ha ha...I don't know that I would ever WANT to drive a Porsche. They told me "sometimes the people that call us are VERY upset b/c their 100,000 car has something wrong with it." Uhh, yeah, my house isn't worth much more than that! LOL Hope you feel better soon!!!
Cyndi - That sounds like a GREAT idea!
09-08-2013, 06:01 AM
Another early good morning. I wish I could figure out why I wake so early. I don't mind in the summer but it is so dark these days - not a glimmer until 6:30.
The play was excellent yesterday and I came home to a spiffed up house since Donna had been here. That'll be the last time since she has her wrist operation next Wednesday but I'm sure I'll manage. (I think I remember how to turn on the vacuum cleaner!)
As soon as it gets bright, I plan to go get the cafe money from yesterday and run it to the auto-teller. I also have a cheque to deliver and want to just get those niggles off my plate. I want to get my day cleared so I can spend the afternoon doing what I want to do - quilting!
Hope your day is a good one.
09-08-2013, 07:01 AM
Good morning Ruth! Have you heard how the cafe did yesterday? Glad you enjoyed the play. We have some really nice productions here, I should look into them more often.
Yesterday wound up being a work day - between the real job and home. I did get the garden cleaned out, and scrubbed out the cat litter boxes (5 cats sure do pee a lot).
Hopefully that means today is a play day. Church first, then ?. What to do, what to do?
Until then, it's just me, Paul, and Emma Jean....since everyone else is still snoozing after a late night of Harry Potter!
09-08-2013, 07:10 AM
I have a day off if noone calls in the next 45 min:crossed:
I'm off to deal with a carpet clean up right now.
It never ends around here.
09-08-2013, 07:11 AM
Good morning Ruth and Tammy! So glad you both had enjoyable productive days yesterday. I had the same thought as Tammy: I should look into the local productions and concerts. It's been a few years since DH and I went to any, but we always enjoyed them.
Tammy, I'm impressed your garden is cleaned up! We've cleared out a few plants but there is still quite a bit growing. We had our 1st acorn squash of the year last night and it was delicious!! Today I should pick a few apples since we have a bumper crop this year.
I feel like I got a lot of chores done yesterday and even worked in a short power nap and finished my book. That means today will be mostly playing (whatever I decide that is) although I need to work on lesson plans for a bit. The sky is clear right now so I might even get outside for a bit.
Debbie, keeping my fingers crossed for your day off!
09-08-2013, 07:26 AM
Do I smell coffee? :coffee2:
Good morning Girls! Ruth, I haven't seen a good play in a while, and I'm glad you and Barb had a good time. I'm also curious to hear how the cafe and mill made out yesterday.
Tammy, enjoy your playtime today, whatever you find to do.
Just Jake, Dustin, and I are up so far, and we're all enjoying our coffee in the peace and quiet. Amber had a few friends over for a sleepover last night and I have no idea what time they finally settled down and went to sleep, but we're not hearing a peep from them right now.
I don't have any plans for the day, except visiting Dad and I really need to take my car to the carwash. We have a lot of ripe, red peppers ready for picking so I'll probably make a big batch of stuffed peppers and freeze some. I'm so disappointed with our carrots; they're pale yellow and taste like you're chewing on tree roots. Ugh! :barf: I don't know what happened with them. Last year's were nice and sweet.
OK, on with the day!
09-08-2013, 09:27 AM
Lovely day here too. I almost have a phobia about working in the garden. Worried I will get another bite and will have a reaction. Yesterday was spent playing tourist in downtown toronto. I spent $$ on nice fresh fish. Its so expensive now and then we walked over to a map store and bought a detail map of burgundy, and italy. Can a trip be in the planning. Got a kick watching all those 30something sitting in Starbucks with their matching laptops. Yesterday was not on plan but today will go for a walk and cook up some of that fish
Take care sophie

Good morning, slept in til 8:15 a.m. so got 8 hours of sleep in :) We did not get home til after 11 p.m. It was a fun day yesterday, got all of my chores done before we left for Football game, came home and got ready for parade and then watched the Fireman's muster (that was a lot of fun to watch, I must say) and then we saw some friends we had not seen in a while so chatted with them for a couple of hours.
Today woke up to a quiet rain which was desperately needed and is washing some of the dust off my car from the road. DD2 is supposed to have a soccer game at 1 p.m. I will be taking my umbrella rather it's raining or sunny (can't handle the sun beating down on my head anymore this weekend).
Ruth- I do am interested to hear how the mill went
Natasha- It's a good plan to move with a job lined up and now you can take your time and find the right 911 position for yourself
Debbie- Hope you get the day off
 to everyone else
Have a wonderful day everyone!
09-08-2013, 10:20 AM
Good morning, all! I'm actually still lying in bed, waiting to hear the first peeps from DD through the monitor. She had a rough night last night. I'm not sure if it was gas, nightmares, or teething, but I was up rocking and singing her to sleep 3 times last night. That was kind of nice, though. I haven't rocked her since she was about a year old. With her still out and hubs and I still groggy, we decided to stay home from church and have a lazy morning.
Yesterday felt productive, but it pased by too fast. I went and picked up our produce basket. It was only about 15 mins away, but the drive is through some old, country roads and is just beautiful. Our basket was pretty great, but more fruits than veggies, so P1.5 may be in order next week. I also went and got some new slacks for church at Kohl's with a coupon. They're a bigger size than I'd like to admit wearing, so it's really time to get to work!
Sophie: I go a giggle out of your Starbucks description. You could have easily been describing me! This is the first time we've lived within driving distance of one in 7 years, so I've been having trouble staying away! Enjoy your fish. DH catches a decent amount for us, so we've generally avoided the price hike.
09-08-2013, 10:46 AM
Just tallied up the Cafe receipts and we did make a slight profit of $200 after expenses so I guess it was worth it. We also managed to sell over $200 worth of flour.
I'm off to the auto-teller shortly and will pop into the store and get some cookies so I don't waste the day baking cookies for tomorrow's Finance Meeting. It's at 10 but I do want to have coffee with Barb at 7 when she opens the United Church Hall for an experimental run from 7 to 10 on Monday mornings. It'll be interesting to see who shows up. There has been lots of griping since Bob's Diner closed so it'll be an experiment. (All the complainers with just four exceptions have not been into the Mill cafe for even a drink!)
Hey! The day is now crispy and sparkling instead of raining. I just hung my fall wreath on the door and may manage to do a bit more fall clean-up. Fall comes earlier up here in the great white north. ;)
09-08-2013, 03:20 PM
Sounds like everyone is starting off with a good day.
Sunny and brezzy here, perfert. Made two meals today, so that I have something to eat this week for leftovers. Tried the Turkey meatloaf, had enough that I could make two burgers with the mix for lunch, on a salad, very good.
Now that I am done in the kitchen need to do some laundry and maybe have some time to do a little sewing before night time.
Enjoy your day to its fullest.

Good afternooon, ladies. Hope you're all having a good weekend! Thanks for all your kind words...I'm super excited that I won't be standing in the unemployment line when I get up there, LOL
I have to share my sweet beautiful niece's first birthday photos from yesterday. This is my bestfriend's little girl, Sophie. My bestfriend just had Sophie's little sister, Sydnie, by emergency C-section last Friday.
The first photo is her in her birthday tutu. The second is her feeding some of her cake to her mommy (my bestie). And the third is her enjoying her birthday cake, LOL
