Default Sweet Challenge

So lately I have realized that I am not doing to good in not eating as many sweets. I for the longest time would not deny myself anything--especially sweets--brownies, cakes, pies, ice cream especially. Every NIGHT I would have to have something sweet. I decided that I need to TRY to stay away from sweets. This is a HUGE step for me....and I know that is a good step to take. My challenge to myself is 30 days of no sweets. I am very determined to do this. Wish me luck...because I am gonna need it!

I like it! I haven't had sweets in..... 3+ weeks I think. Since around first of Aug. I don't keep them in the house. The longer I go without, the less I crave it. Just trying to change my palate and appreciate tastes other than ice cream & chocolate, ya know? When I want a dessert, I have fruit. (gasp) This is what folks did in olden times. When I traveled in Europe I found people would have a simple fruit plate for desert. I never understood how that could be satisfying. I've come to realize how Sweet fruit is. When you're not imbibing sugary cereals etc, you can really appreciate natural flavors.

Good luck and even if you stumble, let us know how it goes. I'm right there with ya.

Sounds like a good idea. Sometimes temporary abstinence is the best route to eventual moderation. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I've been craving ice cream. Maybe it's the holiday weekend to blame. Maybe something else. So far, I've been fine having an orange or something instead.

Good luck! At night, I've had good luck with herbal tea. In particular, Bengal Spice tea by Celestial Seasonings. It has lots of wonderful flavors and makes a nice end to the day.

That's awesome. Keep it up! I went out for drinks last night and sipped on unsweetened iced tea. Alcohol is nothing but sugar and I was proud of myself for skipping it.

"...When I traveled in Europe I found people would have a simple fruit plate for desert. I never understood how that could be satisfying...."

I noticed too even in European places known for their pastries, (Bavaria) those pastries and desserts were not nearly as sweet as the Americanized versions, much more to my liking in fact.

We tend to not eat dinner at our house but instead have a small protein source (couple of oz) and a fruit smoothy. They are very satisfying sweet treats, loaded with nutrients and under 300 calories.

I think sugar addiction is a real problem in our society. Best of luck to you.

So I have to let y'all know...I was doing sooooo good! then a neighbor that my husband and I tend to give homecooked food to(they don't cook a whole lot and appreciate it!!) brought over a helping of peach cobbler and ice cream for the top. I really couldn't say no--they don't bring us food over very often... I only had a bite of the cobbler...didn't touch the ice cream! I made my DH eat most of the cobbler. Thankfully it wasn't super sweet...but that is only "sweet" that I have had. I am still moving forward with no sweets...so I will say out of the 7 days...I am still doing good, only a bite of peach cobbler...

I can't blame you for tasting it, since they brought it over. I also just wanted to suggest frozen grapes. I freeze them into 1 cup servings (100 calories) and they end up tasting amazing! I try to make sure that I have no more than 1 bag a day but I sometimes have two.

So I have 2 things to share....we had a new food store open today that was giving away samples....including sweets....I told myself...NO...do NOT take anything! As I was finishing the walk around the store I realized that I was tempted...so I told myself...GET OUT NOW!!! and I did! I feel like it was a huge accomplishment! The second thing, I realized that I wanted sweets....however my tea is a mix a just a standard black tea and some herbal(flavored)tea....and I have considered it my sweet! I feel like I am gonna get this sweet challenge kicked in the butt! Thanks for keeping me accountable!!

It's great to see you doing so well! Don't let your guard down, you know those sweets are conspiring to tempt you.

PorkyPiggin, great job on saying no to the alcohol. Hard to do especially while others drink.
