I just watched a talk show today where the argument was that taxing fast food was going to make folks eat better. What do you think?

I think people are just going to be annoyed that fast food costs more. These restaurants change with people's taste - like Mc Donald's offering salads. I don't see this tax doing anything.

What do you think?

Well, it doesn't stop people from smoking! Fast food is the new North American Lifestyle.

They tax smoking, liqour, gambling etc........they tax the things that they know people won't stop doing no matter how much they charge.

Just my cynical opinion

why not, they tax everything else.

But it would be nice to see the tax $$ going to a worthy cause. Say.......informing ppl about a healthy diet.

by whose definition is something healthy? heavy cream is fine for the atkins folks, but not for the low fat followers. many dieticians and diet programs, like WW, insist that there 'are no bad foods,' but they have to be eaten as part of a whole eating plan.

so, where does a weekly ice cream fit in? the 'experts' would have us believe that it is junk and therefore taxable, but other authorities would disagree.

remember this: liquor taxes are heavier on beer and whiskey than on wine, because wine is the alcohol of choice for the public health administrators.
