Hey, as I do a kitchen purge and make a grocery list from a meal plan, I realize I don't manage money any better than I manage calories! I think that must be related behaviour (impulsive, not planning, not deciding just defaulting)

So what did you spend money on today? I'm going to track my spending the same way I track calories- in the same day diary in fact!

Today:

$6.35 lunch

Most days there is bus fare, bills and perhaps shopping. There should be groceries tonight :)

Your turn!

$25 on half a tank of gas

$67ish on groceries

almost everything purchased was planned or needed and remembered as I walked by, the only thing that was impulsive was a can of coconut water as I have been curious what it tasted like for AGES... it disappointed me. I know plenty of people who LOVE the stuff but it was so disgusting to me, i only managed a few sips before tossing it :s a $2 lesson lol

For us today was what we call in the personal finance blogging community a "no spend day."

I don't know if you all prefer manual tracking (I do for my nutrition stuff), but if not I always recommend Mint.com for tracking spending and even budgeting. It syncs with your accounts so the only thing you have to enter manually is cash transactions. It's helped communication about money in my marriage a lot (not to mention being super easy)!

Sorry for your $2

$10 in gas
$29 for groceries
$15 for a LOCKER CHANDELIER, which is apparently a real thing, and something a new middle schooler must have, or it's the end of the world. Everyone, you are welcome, because I apparently prevented the ending of the world by making this purchase.

They make bear spray? I'm pleasantly surprised a spray can protect us from bears. Does it spray fire?

Ugh the budget is making me insane. I have been listening to Dave Ramsey podcasts, and he has ruined my life... (in a good way, I guess :/)

I like this thread. I find that I spend way too much on things I don't need, especially junk food. I'm in college so I need to be saving money for tuition and an upcoming trip to Vermont. Maybe this will keep me accountable by shaming me into saving money, lol.

Today:

Pistachio muffins x 2 = $2.38
Olive snacks x 2 = $2
Coke = $1.50
White chocolate covered pecans = $5.99
Hot dogs (???) = $0.99

Total: $12.86. Ugh. I didn't need a single one of those things.

This made me actually laugh out loud at my desk. My co-workers already think I'm an odd duck so I'm sure that didn't help, haha.

I love this thread! Of course, I'm a cheapskate at heart. Most days I don't spend anything. One night I went over my boyfriend's lunch budget with him. It's his money, but we share expenses and it was making me crazy how he was spending it. We intend to get married one day, so yes, I butted in ;).

Anyway, he was spending $70 a week on eating out!!! Once he saw that he cut it down to once a week. My point being, this is a great thread, lol.

(I must be feeling chatty today)

$161 on 3 school books (that's a racket isn't it!?!)
$30 (est) on misc at the store tonight

Oops, I fell behind.

Lessee, Saturday is grocery and other shopping day. I spent $120 at one grocery store and $40 at another. I also spent $80ish at Lowes for bird food and some thing-a-ma-jigs my husband needed. Don't even ask me what they were. ;)

Sunday, spent nada.

Monday, spent $1.35 on my Bucket o' Diet Coke. (The price went up!)

Tuesday spent $1.35 on BoDC, $6 on stupid tax (I bought lottery tickets) and $50 on fuel for my car.

Today, spent $1.35 on BoDC and $35ish on take home dinner from Famous Dave's.

And here we go:

1. $22 at Wal-mart for non-slip shoes and a bottle of ketchup for a sauce I'm going to make soon.

2. $10 at Zoe's Kitchen for dinner, a chicken pita and a cup of fruit

3. $9 at Autozone for a replacement headlight bulb

4. $5 at Bi-lo for a couple groceries

5. $6 at World-Market for Italian roast coffee

6. $13 at Target for makeup and facial cleanser.

Totals out to...$65. Blah. I didn't really want to spend that much today, but getting my headlight replaced took way longer than necessary so I had to buy dinner instead of cooking at home cause I was too hungry/didn't have time to come home to cook. :(
