For those of is in the US, at least, we're coming up to Back to School time which always feels like a kind of a new year for me -- even though it's been a long time since I've actually gone back to school. That's a great energy to borrow for an exercise challenge. Join us in August!

State your goal and track it throughout the month with this supportive group of fellow exercisers. We'll compile our exercise goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

Yay! I really liked the July challenge, so I'm up for an August one!

Goal: to walk/run three miles 2x a week, continue to lift weights 3x a week, and complete the Lazyman Marathon.

I only caught the tail end of the July challenge, but I really enjoyed logging my exercise consistently. On to August!

Goals: run at least 80 miles in August, exercise at least 22 days of the month

8/1 - ran 5 miles, walked 2 miles
8/2 - walked 3.5 miles
8/3 - ran 5 miles, walked 5 miles
8/4 - ran 6.2 miles, walked 4.5 miles
8/5 - nothing
8/6 - ran 11.25 miles, walked 2 miles
8/7 - 20 minutes on a stationary bike, walked 6 miles
8/8 - ran 8 miles, walked 2 miles
8/9 - ran 5 miles, walked 2 miles

I'd like to join this challenge. My plan is to jump on my kids trampoline for 2 x 20 minute sessions. Do 2 x 30 minute Pilates sessions at home. Do 1 cross trainer 30 minute session each week. I haven't exercised for a long time so I'm starting small. I'm following a very low cal plan and it recommends no exercise so I will take it easy. Is there a spread sheet somewhere, do I need to write a list elsewhere?? Thanks for this.

I want to jump right into this challenge, but I injured my heel 3 weeks ago and on some days I can barely walk at all, so I'm setting a very light 2-fold goal for this month: Walk each day that I can and don't walk when I hurt so that I don't injure myself further (which I keep doing. Stubborn. Pain does serve a purpose, unfortunately!)

I have just been on the trampoline with my kids. My plan of 2 x 20 minute sessions is changing to 4 x 10 minute sessions!! Good stuff. Fun, but hard enough to begin with. Just had to jump on and get over my embarrassment. My children loved it, they couldn't believe their luck that i wanted to jump on their trampoline. Nice.

Hey everyone, I definately want to join this thread. My August exercise goals are to finish my JM 30 day shred. I started July 15th and do two days on, then one day off so that should put me at the end of August. I have 19 days left. I also want to try and walk at least 35 miles, not a lot, but I want to start being more active instead of on the computer or sitting around.

Okay, a compromised but reasonable start for me. Despite the hurt heel, I got a walk around the block in today, and I didn't make my heel worse because I walked in sandals, lol! I'm not sure my feet can take walking in sandals repeatedly, but at least I was able to start August off with a little bit of exercise. :cp:

I need to make a new goal for myself. I have been walking and jogging 8 to 15 miles per day since June 4th. I have hit a wall this week and motivation just dropped. I realized I needed to switch things up. Things have also gotten busier here. I am a single, homeschooling mom that also cares for my elderly parents (one just having had a stroke the end of June). I am changing my goal to at least 5 miles per day, Monday through Saturday.

Changed the goal for aspen13 -- good for you for making a change that fits your life better. Have you considered adding some stretching / yoga into your routine? I find that helpful when I've overdone it on cardio. It's also something you can do in the house while still being present for others, especially if you don't care if they see you doing it.

Thank you, gardenerjoy! I usually stretch after my first big walk/jog of the day. I also added in weight training. We, my son and I, do a lot of swimming also. My mom has actually started doing a couple minutes of walking inside the house each day. She has spent the past few years in bed, except for meals and a couple hours of tv each evening. I have spent so much time trying to encourage her to get up and do things. She is so very capable still. I backed off and hoped her seeing my hard work would help motivate her.

Lacking total motivation. I just don't feel like exercising or losing weight. Diet fatigue?

I am hoping to force myself this week to exercise each day and hopefully I'll get my mojo back.

:hug:Hey Sum, maybe see if you can take a 5-10 min walk just to get back into it? Sometimes I tell myself I'll only workout for 5 minutes, 'who can't do 5 min?'. Then I ususally push myself to at least 30 min. Great job on realizing it and getting back into it :D

Just don't disappear from here, Sum. I made that mistake a while back and regret it terribly. If I had just stuck around, even if only to keep reading what everyone had written, I'm sure I eventually would have gotten back on track. Sometimes we do need to take a break, but it's important not to lose track of our ultimate goal. :hug:

Thanks Jacq and Turttle. I took 4.7 mile walk today and lifted weights for 45 min. I told myself that I could turn around after 1/2 mile, well I ended up doing the whole loop as I suspected :D Same with weights; I said I could stop after first set, and I ended up doing all 3 sets.... Now I just need to keep going.

Well, at 10am this morning, I said "I'll just spend an hour or so cleaning out my closets and then I'll do my exercise". It's now almost 9:30pm and I just finished the closets. So much for exercise today. Mind you, I barely sat down all day, since I've been so busy organizing. I was trying everything on, figuring out what fits, what needs altering/fixing/cleaning, what goes to charity, and so forth. Phew, I'm exhausted!

I'm going to keep posting on this thread this month, but I feel I've had too many days not walking as compared to walking to meet goal, even though I know I said my goal was to walk when I can. I just think I'm not pushing myself enough. So today again, I walked just a bit. It's really not enough to count.

Tuscany, no it's not a lack of motivation. I want to get out and walk. It's physical limitation. Even so, it wouldn't feel right to have Joy mark me down as having met goal this month when I already feel as if I've haven't met goal, so I am dropping out of the challenge for this month. However, I am not dropping out of the thread. I will still be following it and rooting you all on! When I finally get back to where I should be physically, I'll join in on future monthly exercise challenges.

Well, I just found out last night that I'm not going to be able to complete any of my running goals. I went to the doctor and he gave me a brace to help with a case of tendinitis. He said that I could definitely run in it, but when I've tried, I only get about a quarter mile before it would get painfully tight, no matter how much I loosened the laces.

Instead of pushing through and risking further injury, I'm going to lay low for the remainder of the month and just concentrate on lifting weights.

Issaknits: good for you for taking precautions. Better to let it heal now so that it can be strong for many years to come.

I managed a little exercise today even when most of the day was spent in hospital waiting rooms while MiL had knee replacement surgery. She's fine and I walked a couple of times outside the hospital and stretched a bit when I got home. Yay for my exercise streak!

I find this thread to be so helpful. For example, in order to meet my goal this month I need to do at least 40 minutes of other exercise each day. This morning, I was up really early for a meeting that required me to drive a long distance. After the meeting and all the driving, I had to run a bunch of errands and then do chores. I then took my walk (I love my walk!), but I REALLY didn't feel like doing anything else. I just wanted to relax. But, I know I have to do those darn 40 minutes or I won't make goal. I walked a mile yesterday and a mile today, so I'm happy about that. I finally went to the walking path in my little town instead of just walking the sidewalks and it was so much easier on my heel. I also discovered in that little park, they've not only put in a playground for kids, which I could see from the road, but they've also put in a separate playground for adults which consists of outside weight machines! I couldn't see it from the road so I didn't know it was there. It's awesome!

The outdoor adult playground sounds neat! A number of parks have started doing that, although none in my area to date. I hope your heel is back to normal soon, but in the meantime it sounds like you've found a temporary solution in the walking path.

I got a late start walking today, but lucked out since the sun wasn't out and there was a light breeze. Because I was so happy that I reached my first mini-goal this morning, my adrenaline must have been going, because I walked 2.4 miles! The last few days I've actually been walking 1.2 miles, which is how long one lap around the walking path is, so today I did two laps. I hope my heel holds out. It feels pretty good right now, but it's early!

We finally had a gorgeous day, after three days of rain, so I took an extra long walk! I'm not looking forward to the end of summer, since I will really miss my walks outside in the sun. :( I will still have the treadmill, but it's not the same.

Tuscany, thank you! I had to take it much more slowly today. I hear ya on not wanting summer to end. I love autumn, but I could completely do without winter weather. I don't have a treadmill, so I don't know what I'm going to do during those months.

DH and I did one lap around the walking path today for 1.2 miles. My heel was a little tender, so I took it easy. I really need to stick to one lap until my heel is completely healed. I just don't know when that's going to be and I get impatient or fool myself into thinking I can keep going without a problem. I knew, starting this month, that not overdoing it was going to be a challenge. Unfortunately, it's one I'm not very good at!

Tomorrow I shall do my final 40 minutes of other exercise and my goal will be met...woohoo. This is the first time all summer I've met my exercise goal. Interestingly, it's also the first time I've met my weight goal. Hmmm...I wonder if the two are related? :dizzy:
