Jump into July with a weight loss challenge. What are your weight loss goals this month?

State your goal and track it throughout the month with a supportive and encouraging group. We will compile our goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration. Woohoo!

My weight loss goal is to loss 10 lbs. I'm at 222 lbs now and wish to be below 212. I'm hoping to do it!

I would love to get down to 148lbs by end of July (8lbs to lose). This will move me from obese to overweight BMI.

I'm going to aim for a 9 lb loss in July, taking me from 164 to 155. A 9 lb loss is an average loss of 2 lbs per week, which is a stretch at my age. But, if I want to shoot high, I must first aim high.

I'm in. I weighed in at 230.2 Saturday for the end of the June challenge I was in, then 234.4 this a.m. but yesterday was a veritable carb fest so theres that. I will change my start weight on the 1st if theres a significant change from Saturdays weight. I've been averaging 1.5 lbs a month so I'm going to keep it real and aim for 5 lbs or anythin over 2 at the very least.

I want to get down to 126 pounds, which means losing 3 pounds.

I remember when I could drop 3 pounds in a weekend, in my younger days, 35 years ago <sigh>

Did not come anywhere close to the huge weight loss goal for June so I'm giving it another go! Goal for July is 8-10 pounds lost. My total weight loss goal is only 17.5 pounds away so its getting harder and harder to lose!

I will weigh in every day for July on my scale at home and at my weight loss center 1 or 2 times per week.

I had a back injury, so can't do much exercise yet.

:(My weight this morning was 226.4. ( I would LOVE to lose 10 lbs. this month, but I have been on track on diet and working my butt off at the gym and averaging 1 lb. per week, so I will set a more realistic goal of 6 lb.s and an end of July challenge weight at 220.

My healthy lifestyle fell apart in June to the point that I think looking at a scale will be counter-productive. So, my July goal is to rebuild my healthy lifestyle habit by habit.

Habit 1: Eat only in my eating places -- that is, not standing up in the kitchen and not in the car, because those are situations where I eat mindlessly.

I seem to have re-established my habit of eating only in the places I'm meant to eat (that is, not my car and not standing up in the kitchen).

Now, I'm working on the habit of eating only the foods that work well for me (that is, not white bread, not candy, and not a number of other processed foods that do nothing for me but trigger cravings). I did well on that one today, too!

Thanks for the good wishes, Lene! And to PositiveAttitude, it's perfectly fine that you only weigh once a week. I weight daily, since it keeps me honest, but I only "count" my weekly Monday morning weigh-ins...that's when I change my ticker and I separately record the weekly weights to track my overall weight loss trends. I know I'm not even in the challenge, but I wanted to add my two cents. Since I am the queen of long stalls :)

I would imagine your body is re-situating (sp) itself. For whatever reason, it almost takes weight loss breaks in order to redistribute/reassign the weight when you have lost weight. It is kinda rebuilding itself.

I'd bet money that you will have more people comment on your weightloss during these stalls, and notice 'little' things like rings being looser, even shoes being looser.

I think our bodies simply won't do both at the same time, and it needs a little time to work this around.

It's very important to stay your most hydrated (esp water) when you are in that mode b/c it allows your body to do it the most effectively and easiest.

I'm not one of those that say drink a crazy amount of water, but be aware that your body is shuffling things around and it's in your best interest for it to be able to do it quickly and with the best results

Thank you for your responses and advice Katydid77 and PositiveAttitude! I will try increasing my water intake and hope that the re-situating doesn't take too much longer or just try to stay away from a scale for a while...but that is sometimes a challenge. I am measuring, the first time was on the 1st of July so I will wait a few weeks to see if that shows a loss. I feel pretty good...besides the frustration...but I am hanging in there, not throwing in the towel.

minoja75: I stalled every 20 to 25 pounds on the way down. Usually by then I was bored with what I was doing anyway, so I'd start a new plan and kind of throw everything up in the air. I don't know if it really helped but it kept me amused while I was waiting for the scale to move.

I just realized I won't be around at the end of this challenge to know if I met goal or not :(. I'm going on vacation :). No scales! It would be great if I could meet my 10 pound goal BEFORE leaving, but that means 8 more pounds in less than 3 weeks with TOM in there somewhere...

Frustrating start to my weightloss journey this month. My TOM has been very unkind and accompanied by cramps and bad headaches. I have stayed on course with my water, which is a challenge for me. My eating (85% great, 5% so so, 10% bad) has been ok considering a holiday weekend and TOM. Looking forward to more intense workouts and cleaner eating these next 3 weeks. I'm also thinking about weighing and recording everyday to keep my mindset more focused. I know with the intense workouts my weight will go up initially, but hopefully it will reward me with a nice whoosh later this month.

Cincorn, I love beer. Not to get intoxicated, just really love a good craft beer. I'm trying to stay away from alcohol this month. I rarely drink soda or juice and I'm taking a break from coffee. I would like to start making home brewed unsweetened tea daily and drink that with my water. Anyway, if you are anything like me your "beer 1lb" should disappear in a day or two:)

Tuscany, you may be bored with seeing the same number the last couple of days but a 3lb loss in your first week is FABULOUS! Great job!

Turtle, 3lbs overnight?!?! I need to start eating more s'mores!!! Wahoo!

Superheroteacher, I hope you hit that goal before vacation!

Jm474 - LOL - I think the whoosh fairy is different for everyone. To me and my normal slow losing, anything over 2 lbs is a whoosh. I also associate whooshing with water and if I lose what I "think" may be water weight, I feel like the Whoosh Fairy has visited me. Congrats on the 3.2 lbs! Looks like you may have gotten a visit yourself. ;)

Great day with good food choices and exercise. Went out to dinner with the family and ordered salmon and rejected dessert even when everyone else enjoyed. This morning did c25k week 5/day 3 which requires you to run 20 minutes straight. I haven't been a "runner" in years so it was exciting to go the distance today :)
Also, I got my 72ozs of water in again today. If only I could do this everyday I'd look like this >>>>> :belly: hot stuff!!!

I've got four small habits going well and it's making a difference! I need a couple of more to really feel back to my normal, but I'm going to give these another day or two:


Eat only in my eating places (that is, not in the car and not standing up in the kitchen)
Eat only foods that serve me well (for example, white bread does nothing for me but trigger cravings for more white bread)
Eat only at my eating times (three meals and one or two snacks, not grazing throughout the day)
Eat only what I initially serve myself (I donít need seconds or to invent extra courses while Iím eating)

Challenging myself to get 15000 steps before my head hits the pillow tonight. It's almost 4pm and I have 10600 steps and haven't worked out yet so it looks promising.

Gardenerjoy, looks like you are getting a good handle on those eating habits. I especially like the portion control and saying no to seconds.

Tuscany, I hope the scale was your friend today!

I need to hit the grocery store sometime and pick up some more produce. I also need to clean the house, make dinner, pick up dd from friends, take ds to his football workouts and workout myself yet today too. Sometimes a day off of work doesn't really feel like a day off :)

This is just killing me! I have been eating 1200- 1600 calories dependent on workouts. I'm logging every bite and wear an activity tracker daily. I have never been very good at drinking water but now it's all I drink (an occasional unsweetened ice tea) and at the very least 72ozs of water. Grrr! I really hope the scale shows me some love tomorrow!

Another loss this morning...I think I'm now firmly in the 150's...yeah!

I hope the scale is kind to you too, Lene. It's very frustrating to remain on plan and not see results. Perhaps it's the high humidity, which seems to be all over these days. Believe it or not, high humidity often results in water retention, which explains why many people experience swollen fingers, ankles, etc. when it's humid out. I know when it's humid, I have trouble getting my rings on and off. Hopefully, you and others will see a whoosh soon!

Yay, Kaitie! That's a terrific milestone!

Congrats, Tuscany, on the descent into the 150s!

lene, 2 pounds in 10 days is nothing to sneeze at! I averaged less than a pound a week on the way down. It's not how fast they leave it's how long they stay gone.

I've finally found willingness to get back to the one habit that really works for me -- planning my meals in advance. I'm making it a generous plan, right now, as I ease my way back into it. And, now, of course, I'm wondering why I didn't do it much sooner. I'm remembering all the things I like about it:


It's a solid foundation for a slippery day.
What I lose in the pleasure of spontaneity, I gain in the pleasure of anticipation.
The time I lose in a few minutes of planning, I gain back several times over in the efficiency of having a plan.
I'm faced with many fewer decisions during the day.
My obsessive thoughts about food are much reduced in number.

Thanks Tuscany and Joy for your feedback. I had set a lofty goal of 9 lbs for this month. I felt that since I was just restarting dieting I would lose some extra water weight and have that first big week loss? It never happened. I don't know if I will hit my goal regardless of my focus. I skipped my running for the last two days to see if maybe my sore calves were holding water and I think it helped. I still kept my calories in check just gave my body a little rest. Back at the running this morning and feel extra motivated by the validation from the scale.

An 8000 calorie deficit is incredible, I'm sure you'll have a whoosh right around the corner. The past two nights I've eaten where I couldn't completely count calories/points, and I'm sure my eyes have overestimated my portion sizes.

Its so crazy how our bodies work. I lost over 5 lbs in the first ten days of the month, and I'm really hoping I lose another 2 in the last 20 days for the challenge and I've probably been 90% on plan.

Tuscany - A 9 lb goal is a ton for someone in the 150s. I would LOVE to be in the 150s

Sum38 - No amputations! We have such bad humitity here. If you look at my numbers after camping, I dropped a couple lbs after being in air conditioning for a day. Its crazy how weather can effect weight loss. If it rains, you can't go outside and exercise, if its too hot, too cold...

And, Lene, there is a petition to eliminate TOM. It was signed by a bunch of old ladies and it's called menopause. Been there, done that...you're not going to like the weight gain that comes with it. :) Not to worry, even though I complain about the scale, I'm only joking around. I'm very happy with my progress to date. I've been on vacation for a while (taking a lot of accumulated vacation time), so I've been bumming around in track pants/etc. I had to go in to the office for meetings last Friday, and when I went to try on my business clothes for the first time in over a month, I was down to a size 10...yippee!

I'm doing another little dance this morning, since the scales blessed me with a 1 lb loss.

Well I guess I am going to make my goal but I don't advise anyone to do it the way I am. I was in the hospital from July 18 to 23rd with acute pancreatitis. Nothing but ice chips for 4 days then liquid diet for 2.

I have two times of the month that make me bloat, and get overly irritated: ovulating and aunt flow. They both seem to screw up my weight loss. But I'm still early in the journey for health, so maybe it'll stop after I get further down the road...

PositiveAttitude, I don't especially like weighing in daily. Some days you know no matter how hard you work that number could be high or you get false reads because of TOM. Why I think it's helpful is that I like to see my trends or be able to tweak things a little regarding exercise and diet during the week. Good luck!

So for GNO I had 2 beers, a grilled chicken sandwich and ten kettle chips. I ate a salad for lunch and had a 300 calorie breakfast. I totaled close to 1500 calories for the day. Hopefully, the scale won't punish me for more than a day or so.

A small loss (0.25 lbs) for me this morning, but it was an important loss, because it puts me halfway to goal. I don't mean my July goal. I mean my overall goal. I want to lose 65 lbs in total and I've now lost 32.5 lbs, or half...yippee!

And as for being slow, I believe gardenerjoy earlier said on this thread: "It's not how long it takes to lose the pounds that matters, but how long they stay gone" (or something to that effect). That really is the important part.

Yes, Turtle, 0.25 adds up quickly except when it reverses, as it sadly did this morning. Also, you didn't gain 1.6 lbs of fat from eating 1750 calories...that's just water weight...it will disappear soon. Let's hope my gain and yours both disappear by tomorrow!

Hi All! I know I'm here too late for July, but I'm looking forward to the August challenge! I came back to 3FC just a few days ago after being away for 4 years. The one thing I'll never forget is how wonderful the support on these challenges is, and I can't wait to jump back in! (For any old-timers here, you may remember me as the first one to compile a list of everyone's goals, for the thread which FullSteamAhead started each month, to keep track of what everyone was doing, as well as the one who separated the exercise goals and weight loss goals by starting a separate thread for exercise.) Unfortunately when my computer went down four years ago, I fell off the wagon hard and it's taken me this long to get serious about losing weight again! Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, to say hi to any of my old friends who may still be here, and to say I'm so excited to jump into the August challenge with you! Gardenerjoy, I see you are still getting your exercise in from the exercise challenge thread. Hope you are doing well!

Looking back over the month I am pretty happy with my attitude, efforts, and lifestyle changes. I will not be making my 9lb goal but I have so many NSV. I have navigated difficult social situations where normally I would drink and binge eat. I have pushed myself out the door to exercise at least 4 times/week. I drink 72oz of water a day and before this challenge barely drank ANY liquids at all. I have clothing that is getting looser everyday and I can now run 30 minutes without stopping. I also made my 5% weight loss goal. That's a lot for 1 month! Thank you, thank you, thank you for inspiring and motivating me. You guys are wonderful!
Tomorrow I will post my July challenge end weight and then I will be ready to bust my rear end again in August.

Lene - Thanks for the missed messages :) Surprisingly the beer and burger weren't that good. I've actually started losing my taste for some things. Its wierd. My hubby and I will talk about what we want for dinner and I don't want the ususal go to stuff that I used to. Somewhat annoying because now I am having to recreate dinners.

But this is actually going to be one of my August goals (and one tonight), to design easy, cheap, healthy dinners that the hubby and I both like. Maybe two new ones a week. I thought my cravings might change, but not after only two months. :)

Awesome job Positive, Lene and Tuscany (congrats on halfway mark!!!!), really substantial losses!

I made my goal weight of 173 :) and had a total loss of 8 lbs this month, and I feel great, really really great. I was hoping for another little dip because I was the same weight last Wednesday, but extremely happy with the big picture.

I'm calling my goal to re-establish my healthy lifestyle habits met. I'm even willing to weigh myself tomorrow for the first time in weeks. It will be up, but now I feel like I can do what it takes to get it back where I want it to be.

I don't get it, I work my butt off almost every day and the bleepin scale won't move. I eat right, I track every bit of food that goes in my mouth and yet the scale won't move. It's been two months of me trying to get from 172.4 to 160. WHAT'S HAPPENING!!!!

It just doesn't add up--1200 minutes of exercise should be more than enough to drop 5 pounds in a month--not to mention eating right. I'm annoyed.

Kaitie9399: yay for losing more than 2 pounds! I had lots of weeks where I averaged a half pound a week. It's not a very dramatic rate of loss, but I got there eventually.
For me, it isn't until the exercise is up at about 1800 minutes a month or more that it's obvious that it's contributing to my loss.

Didn't quite make it to 179. My starting weight for the month was 186. Lost four pounds this month. Ended at 182. More salads in August!
