WW Clubs and Groups - Weight Watchers Leader "Disappointed" in One Lb. Loss
06-28-2013, 07:55 AM
After losing 80 lbs. and gaining 15 back, I joined Weight Watchers, and I did it all week, and I went in and I had lost a pound. And the leader said she was disappointed it wasn't more. Um... what? She knows I have been exercising and eating healthy for the past few years so there wasn't going to be a newbie whoosh.
I think 1 lb. a week is great. I wrote a note to their website tonight and will call and complain tomorrow. I can certainly go elsewhere. I think what she said could lead to disordered eating and it's really offensive.

I would say that this WW leader is in the wrong profession for her. Her remarks was unprofessional to put it mildly. Does she know simple arithmetic ? Losing one pound a week consistently adds up to 50 pounds a year. I think you were right in complaining and I hope you put it in the strongest , possible terms.

I think we're culturally brainwashed to expect at least two pounds per week or even more.
I've been a WW and TOPS member, multiple times in the past. I don't think I realized how demotivating I found it to encounter a disapproving or disappointed weight recorder.
I would complain to both the manager of your local WW and to corporate headquarters, because even from a business prospective, demotivating clients is extremely poor business practice.

Thanks, I will complain to the regional manager if I figure out who that person is. Corporate suggested that I do that too. In the meantime, I wrote them a very honest Yelp review and made a list of other possible meetings to try in my area.

I'm writing to say how sorry I am that your leader made such a foolish, insensitive comment. The good thing is that here you know you have so much support. Good luck to your on your journey.

One pound is still one pound! Every pound counts and your weight did go down and not up. My leader is so excited even if will lose 0.2 pounds. Glad that you spoke up. They are there to help and support you, not discourage you.

I cannot believe some of the horror stories I have heard about leader lately. Don't let them get you down. It's been a while since I last done pp but it seems I will still have that beginning woosh. I couldn't imagine being frowned upon if I didn't.

One pound in a week is great! My philosophy is that as long as the scale is going down, whether it is 6 ounces in a week or 2 pounds, it is good. Of course, I prefer larger numbers, lol, but any decrease is a good thing.

So sorry she wasn't supportive, and glad that you're filing a complaint. WW is supposed to be a positive safe space.
the positive thing is the people you find here are supportive! great job hun!

I don't think the leader/receptionist should even comment on a gain, much less a loss unless the member asks for advice. When I saw your thread title, I thought it meant he leader was disappointed in her OWN result at the scale!
