Another rainy day but in the 80s today. My stomach is feeling queezy today so I am only going to do some laundry and vacuum and then rest because I have a busy week ahead, including 3 doctor appointments. One for prescription refills, one with the chiropractor for my back and neck and one with the research doctor for my monthly check by him. Nothing fun on tap for the week at all.

Jean, I could just picture the look on Bob's face when the fish went back in the water! Way back when my in-laws were still alive we went to their house for Thanksgiving weekend. That Sunday Pittsburg Steelers were playing the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland and when the game came on my father-in-law said we had better hit the road because it was snowing in Cleveland and coming towards Clymer (about 100 miles east of Pittsburgh. My mother-in-law gave us a ton of food to take home including gravy in a quart mason jar. It tooks us 15 hours to get within 2 blocks of our house and the normal drive was 7 hours. We got stuck in snow up over our knees and had to walk the rest of the way home carrying the food. I made it all the way into the house, opened the refrigerator and dropped the jar of gravy and it broke. I was really mad about that. Stan just laughed.

Have a wonderful day!

Good Morning, Flowers! We got up to rain and dark clouds this morning, but it has lightened up and the sun is supposed to shine this afternoon. Just found out that Ian has a tournament game tomorrow night at 7:30 so will be on the road again. He "earned" a large blizzard on Tuesday night and a medium one on Thursday night! I'm working on the laundry pile and need to get the luggage put away. Sometimes I think being gone is more work than it's worth. I'm not good at living out of a suitcase.

Susan -- I logged on using my pc this morning and didn't get any warnings. My virus program was installed on my laptop, by the store where I bought it, and then they switched my pc over to the same company. I've never had any problem, knock on wood. I did have to update this morning but the computer hasn't been turned on for over a week. I don't use Google Chrome even though I have gmail. I guess I didn't understand it so passed when asked to switch. I hope your stomach is feeling better. You need to plan something "fun" this week, in between your appointments. ;) I think everyone must have a food story of some sort. I would hate to clean up a jar of gravy! Thanks for starting the new thread.

I hear the dryer buzzing so time to fold towels and get the next load going. Have a nice day and enjoy!

Good afternoon gals! It is so sticky here as usual and we had to go commissary shopping and that was kind of miserable, especially for poor Jack dragging everything in. Boy, I can sure tell the prices have gone up. We had no junk type food or snacky stuff and it was almost $400. I raised my food budget to $330 but.... Guess you either do it or starve I guess.

I still want to pick up a birthday card to Thomas and get a small watermelon. All they had were huge ones at the commissary. So, we are going go out for dinner then run by Krogers and see if they have an at least medium sized melon I can cut up. I am craving melon.

Jean: Funny story and poor Bob lost his great fish. Glad you all got back home ok. Hope you got some great bargains on your little shopping trips.

Susan: My mcafee didn't pop up with anything so wonder what's going on? Glad we can still come in here and visit. Sounds like you got a good deal on your store exercising. I try to walk around as fast as I can too to at least get abit of exercise. I have to be careful going very fast because my stupid knee will pop out and make me stumble. The nice thing is today I did the whole commissary and didn't get that groin muscle cramping until we got up to the checkout, which is great.

Maggie: Hope all is going great with you and Will and doggies and kitties.

I guess I better check my laundry and if it is done, get it folded. You all have a great Sunday!!! Faye

I have decided to post from this old machine since I have so much trouble with the site on my new computer for its anti-virus system doesn’t like the 3FC site and keeps shutting me down when I am not finished with my post. I am using the Norton that came on my new computer and it seems to detect some infestation on this site and won't let me post. Maybe that is what started my trubles on this machine. The 3FC has to be on constant alert for malware that comes to this site and I hope that they get this current episode cleared up soon for I won't be keeping this old computer on line much longe. So if I disappear from this site it will be because my new computer won't let me on the 3FC site to talk to you Magnolias.

Yesterday in our out and about drive we saw a baby buffalo that was born since our out and abut late yesterday. It was huddled in the grass close to its mother and we couldn’t tell if it is a boy or girl but we will be able to tell later when it is up and about more. Today all the babies were hard to even see in the tall grass. They disappear when they lay down.

Will has the new flooring down in the front room and will now start down the hallway. It looks so great ~ I love it and wonder why we didn’t think of doing this ages ago since I have been so happy with it in the dining room and my office

SUSAN Fresh fish is the best isn’t it. Too bad that crab is so expensive but there is a shortage of the little critters. No, I don’t think I will start another bracelet for I wear this one each and every day and it is quite enough. So sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Wow does saound like you will have a very busy week with Dr. visits.

JEAN Have fun at the game. I don't enjoy living out of a suitcase much either. Would rather have a motorhome that has closets and drawers in it for our "stuff. :D

DONNA FAYE Prices are going up everywhere and wages aren't. Puts a crimp in lots of folks pocket books. I am so thankful that we paid off all our plastic debt and are debt free. It comes with such a good feeling. I hope you found your mellon. I love nice cold watermellon.

Have a great day Magnolias

Good morning ladies! I was zonked out when Jack got up and got ready for work this morning. I barely acknowledged him when he left. He gave me a kiss and I woke up and asked him if he was going already and he said he had to go to work and back to sleep I went.

I am up 3 lbs but not surprising since this week I have had swollen feet and am retaining a lot of water with the heat. I am getting them back down to normal so I should slough off the extra weight no problem.

I was supposed to make dog food this morning, but stuck the gr beef for it in the freezer instead of the fridge so will have to do it this afternoon or tomorrow. I just put out his last bag so have to get to it first thing if I am going to have food for him tomorrow. Of course, I have leftover containers of regular dog food that he probably wouldn't eat.

Maggie: I did get a melon, but it isn't the best. They had gigantic ones at Krogers too, but I found two cut and wrapped halves that were in the produce section. They only were a penny more total so I got them, but they aren't the best tasting. Not very sweet and a bit dull tasting in parts. Glad you like your flooring. We have decided on this great tile throughout the whole downstairs and hopefully, when we start the remodel in just about 3 years it will still be available or something like it. It looks like a washed beach cottage kind of look like wood not tile and comes in strips instead of squares like you would lay hardwood.

Well girls, I need to get crackin' this morning. Have a good start to your week. Faye

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It is raining . . . again. We sure don't need any more right now. There wasn't much at church to count, nor the gift shop money for two weeks. We are supposed to go to Ian's game tonight but Jason called and thunderstorms are predicted so will wait until the last possible minute to leave.

Maggie -- I've had no problem getting in here and feel my virus/bug coverage must be doing its job. I hope you can get your new computer to like the site. :crossed: Enjoy your new floor . . . wish you could have mine too! I'm beginning to think our's is defective as we had the same kind of flooring last week and it didn't show anything except the dust under the couch that didn't get mopped. Good luck at WW tonight!

"Gma" -- You are so right about food prices going up. We got new menus the last time we had lunch bunch, and the prices were all higher. I know we don't eat out as often as we used to either. I didn't find any bargains shopping. I did notice it's not JCP any more, but back to J C Penneys where it should be! You will have the 3#s gone in no time!

I am on a search for a receipt and can't find it. :tantrum: I put all of my shopping together, or at least I thought I did. I need to return a pair of jeans to Kohls; thought it was in the sack and it's not there. Have a marvelous Monday and enjoy life!

It is currently 85ºs with a wind advisory until 8pm, lovely. The ever present wind. Hopefully when we go out a bit later today and see the buffalo we will be able to see all three babies. We will take a run out there after we pick up the dogs from the groomer where they are getting a haircut and bath. When the buffalo babies lay down they are invisible in the tall grass and so we didn’t see any of them last viewing.

I know I will take a hit at WW ~ just know it for I didn’t attend last week. I have a friend that lives about an hour’s drive from here that is going to start WW this meeting which will make it fun to have her here. There are lots of little towns around here that have vast amounts of crop land between them. And they are little towns and most of those folks come here to shop for we are a bit bigger and have a great university even though we are a small town.

I just had to take a moment away from here to put some “eye itch” drops in my eyes. The wind brings things that irritate them and make them itch. We have a great druggist here that recommended these for me and they really work. My beautician was complaining about her eyes itching during my last visit and I told her about this non prescription that really works. She said her prescription didn’t work and was going to get a bottle of what I use. It works for her like a charm and she thanked me profusely. No telling how many patrons will now hear about it from her and get a bottle of it. I told her it may not work for everyone but it sure works for me. It’s name is “Equate® Eye Itch Relief.” I’m not a druggist but like I said it works for me. I am always very careful what I put in my eyes.

I sure hope this web site gets the bugs cleaned out soon and I can post using my new computer. Mean people like to mess up a good thing. They don’t have much self worth and so want to make other folks miserable. Trouble is that some of these mean folks are very smart and can dream up some very ugly things to do on web sites.

We are back now from being out and about and did get to see the buffalo babies and picking up the dogs from the groomer. Cecil sure gave them a scolding when we got them home. He didn't slap Beanie this time though. ;)

Here is a nice “Energy Drink” recipe I got out of my Eating Well® magazine. It calls for agave, honey or sugar but I don’t care for sweet tea so I omit that and make it zero points. Or if you like sweet tea you could use a 0 points kind of sweetener. You can find the yerba mate´ tea in a health a food store or in the natural foods section in a large supermarket.

Makes 1½ cups for 1 serving
1 cup boiling water
2 green tea bags
1 yerba mate´ tea bag
1½ Tbsp. agave, honey or sugar
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
Ice cubes
Chopped fresh mint (optional)

JEAN We have a friend that even has this type flooring in her kitchen and loves it so we are going yank up the lineolum out of there and put this wood look floorng down in there also. It doesn't detriate and take abuse like the lineolium kind does and it lasts for years and years and stlll looks great. We sould have done this yeas ago. There is a type of wax like stuff that you can use that restores the shine if it gets dull looking in high use areas. For now until I am confortable that this site has cleaned itself of all bugs I will just come in here with this old compuer.:p My new computer won't even open the site today. :o

DONNA FAYE Sounds line the flooring you want is pretty much like what we are putting down except for the color. You will love it once you get it. Sorry that the watermellon that you get there is not as good as what we get here. Must be grown in different places. Ours comes out of Arizona. Yours may come out of Florida or Georgia. All the ones we have gotten out of Arizona have been yummy.

Have a great day Magnolias

Good morning to you all! Same old weather report, hot and very humid. Humidity was 86% this morning.

I got the dog food all fixed, made an appt for Saturday for him to get his heartworm shot, talked to them about whether they have refrigeration since he won't eat dog food again. This payday was carrots for his dog food. He gulped it right up this morning when I put his food down. Kooky dog.

I missed my cleaning opportunity so will have to double up tomorrow morning to get downstairs cleaning done. It is too hot to do it. The ac just can't keep up with this high heat. Jack has been watching Florida too and looks like we are going to have the same heat and humidity as last year. ugh!

I am going to make load potato salad for the cookout on Saturday. If I have any, it will be a small amount as it has bacon, grated cheese, scallions in regular potato salad. I am going to make baked beans too I think depending on what she wants me to bring.

Maggie: We usually get in season stuff from Mississippi and Arkansas. Arkansas has lovely yellow meat watermelon and the best melon in the world. I haven't had it in a long time. I don't know what went on with my eyes a few months ago but it lasted about 2 weeks then straightened right up and I can wear my contacts again. Don't know why I had so much trouble with clear vision.

Jean: No rain here for awhile. Just hot and humid. So, is next year your Hawaii year? I am getting excited about our trip since it is less than 4 months away.

I better get going. I have lots of things to accomplish before Jack gets home. Have a good one all. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! It's a cloudy morning in my corner of the world this morning. I dropped checks off at the hospital and made a grocery run without a list. It's 20 cents off a gallon of gas Tuesday; right now Bob has $1.58 off his next 20 gallons for the pickup.

It was almost midnight when we got home last night. Ian threw the ball to home plate, from 2nd base, for the 3rd out and ended the game by winning with one run ahead. The game was exciting even for 10 year olds. They play again tomorrow night but don't think we will go. If they win, they will play a double header Friday night, and we will go then.

Maggie -- You will have your WW "hit" gone in no time. You know what to do! :cheer: Thanks for sharing the recipe although I've never heard of yerba mate tea.

I just read a tip on FB regarding pesky flies. Fill a baggie half full of water and drop in 4+ pennies. Nail, staple, or tape wherever flies congregate. I guess Google has some research information as to why this works. I haven't tried it but will the next time we go to the lake.

I need to cut up some fruit for lunch. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning ladies. Hot, hot, hot here today again and the humidity is unbelievable. On top of that Fortune is sick again and this time it is coming out both ends. He messed up the clean carpets already though I spot cleaned them after removing the messes. I guess Jack is going to have to take the cleaner to the spots this weekend. I gave him antibiotic and a dose of pepto for the tummyache. So far so good, he had gotten sick all over the dining room overnight then starting vomiting in the house so I put him outside and poor little thing was squatting then throwing up then squatting, etc. That was around 7:30 AM and when he came in I gave him the Pepto and he has been sleeping since so I hope it helps.

Thank goodness I decided to put some skinless chicken thighs in the crockpot with sauce and we will have some potatoes and a veg with it. Easy to mess with and easy to clean up.

I did get most of the downstairs done today and will finish up the vacuuming and dusting and sweepng and mopping this evening and tomorrow. I did laundry and folded it and unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher all the while keeping a sharp eye on Fortune in case he started getting sick again.

We have a combo of father's day for Jack and birthday for Thomas this weekend at Kelly's. Thomas got a lot of running stuff for his birthday and a few other things I am not sure what they were. We bought him a microphone to record stuff with. It reminds me of the old mikes that reporters like Edward R Murrow used to use though thankfully Thomas won't sit behind it with a cigarette in his hand!

Jean: Big congrats to Ian!!! Sounds like you had a long day. I thought I was going to fall asleep before my favorite shows season premiere started, but I kept awake long enough to watch all of Rizzoli and Isles. Jack calls it Fazolis and Isles. We are up to $3.25 a gallon. It was $3.16 when we left for Indiana a few weeks ago. At least we aren't into the 4's like a lot of places are. In this day and age they have you at a disadvantage because cities and towns are all spread out now, so do to anything you usually have to get into a car and drive.

Well gals, time to check my chicken and try and get a bit more work done. Faye

06-27-2013, 09:22 AM
Good morning girls. I was up and down all night with Fortune because he had slept all day. He didn't have any episodes so around 3 AM I let him have half portion of his food, which is a little more than 1/4 c. He went outside and had a fairly solid bowel movement, came back in, jumped up on the recliner and puked! So out came the cleaner and such. Luckily, we had the recliner scotchguarded when we bought it so clean up went well. I fought a pill down his throat, but he kept getting it back up so I put it in some soft cheese and he wouldn't eat it. I ended up shoving the soft cheese onto his tongue forcing him to get it down. I guess we shall see what the day brings. I know I have teeth marks on my finger when he bit down to chew.

It was just awful this morning when I let Fortune out. It is so humid and sticky and only got to about 80 overnight and it supposed to be near 100 today. I sure feel for Jack and other men and women who have to work out in the heat today. It is going to be ugly.

We did get some good news yesterday. I guess the city council passed the budget including reinstating the pay back to what it was before they took it away two years ago. They then went and raised property taxes. So we should be getting the money starting next month. The suit is still in the courts, but I doubt we would get the back amount taken from us, which would amount to about $5000 per employee depending on how much they got paid. I am angry about them taking it in the first place, but I don't care about getting it back. I am sure the judge will go in favor of the city since they at least reinstated the pay back. Gives us more money for the cruise!!

Jean: I saw you email post. Ian is going to be getting fat on ice cream with all the hits he is having. Be careful out and about in the heat today if it is still unpleasant where you are.

Onward and upward getting chores and work done. I have to get my berries done today for sure. Have a great Thursday. Faye

06-27-2013, 01:39 PM
Good Morning, Flowers! It's a cloudy, cooler morning with a few raindrops here 'n there. I was up early and ready to head out by 7:30, to the church office. When I get there the secretary says, "it's not ready yet." :hyper: If we don't get it to the post office by 3, they won't take it until the next day so have been putting it together in the morning. She knows I am the early bird; I'm often there before she is on Mondays. I asked why she didn't call me yesterday afternoon to tell me it wasn't ready and her comment was, "it was just so busy around here." Yeah, right! I may just not show up tomorrow morning. :spin: So I stopped for bread and milk then came home to pick up the clutter and vacuum. Not sure what time we will leave for Ian's game which starts at 5.

"Gma" -- Poor Fortune and poor you! I do hope his tummy settles down. Don't spend the back pay until it is in your pocket! ;) I wouldn't trust the government these days. I don't remember Jason eating like Ian does; he's always looking for food even if he has just eaten. I think he has grown 2" this summer, and there is no fat anywhere on him. I will be glad when he grows into his feet!

I need to fold a load of towels and put the vacuum away. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Thursday!

06-28-2013, 11:26 AM
Good morning to you girls. It is hot, humid and thunderstorms today. Today is mop day so the floors are going to dry slow I imagine even though I use a steam mop. The humidity has kept them sticky which irritates me.

Tomrrow is the cookout and Kelly has a lot of ancestry stuff to show us. She decided she wanted to do this DNA test thing where you give a large saliva sample, mail it back to them and they give you all kinds of information on what kind of diseases you could be genetically connected to, what you are allergic to, etc, plus things like your ancestry country origins and stuff. Well, that got her interested and she signed up for and has been going to town ever since. Her dad has a lot of information on parts of both sides of our family that she was never interested in, but she is gun ho right now. He will take his laptop with his database on Saturday and they can compare notes.

I am still doctoring Fortune. He did take in some of the Pedialyte, but I put regular water down with ice last night and he slurped up a bunch. He also ate another half of his food. I put out a full one this morning, but he hasn't touched it. Truth is, I have to face the possibility of just how much longer he will live. He has lost weight, which concerns me, but he has a heartworm shot tomorrow so I am going to have them weigh him and talk to them about him.

Jean: Oh no, believe me until I see the extra amount on his direct deposit I won't believe it to be true. This city's finances are such a mess, the state comptroller stepped in and made demands of them. On top of that, we have an assinine mayor who has mucked things up along with the previous nitwit that was mayor. Is the secretary paid or volunteer? Sometimes that sure makes the difference. It is too bad you show up and then the work that was supposed to be done isn't. I doubt seriously a church office is so horrifically busy she couldn't make a couple minute phone call. Thomas eats pretty well for a string bean too. He is really shooting up and has big feet. I think it is a boy thing that they have to grow into their feet. He got new running shoes for his birthday and they look pretty good sized.

Well gals, need to get to work and get things done. Have a fantastic weekend all. Faye

06-28-2013, 03:23 PM
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It would be a beautiful day in the neighborhood if the wind wasn't blowing! The sun has been playing hide 'n seek with the clouds and very low humidity. I decided to have my nails done before heading off to church this morning. I did send her an email, after midnight, saying I had a 9:00 appt. first. At 9:30 she sent me a text saying they were finished; I'm guessing the pastor's wife and/or daughter were drafted into helping. There is usually 5 of us, and I'm guessing the other couple couldn't/didn't come today since she had asked and was told Thursday also. So instead, I stopped by Bob's office to congratulate the other agent who just got engaged, and to see her ring. Ernie has a 2:30 appt. for shots, so Bob will come home and play round-up.

We are officially done with baseball games. Ian's team ended up in 3rd place with a traveling trophy and each player received a medal on a ribbon; some bad umpire calls, bad throws, strike outs, etc. Ian played well and had a hit that got 3 runners home so he was a happy camper. He actually earned two large blizzards, one for each game! We went to the DQ with them afterwards, so it was after midnight when we got home. *yawn* Morning came awfully early! Football games start the middle of August. *groan*

"Gma" -- I know you will enjoy getting together with Kelly and family tomorrow. I do hope Fortune is on the mend. It's so hard when a pet grows older and the body parts don't work as well as when they were young. The church secretary is a salaried position; several of us are trying to get her on a time clock through the computer. She comes late, leaves early, takes time off for doctor's appts. or whatever else, runs errands on the pretense of dropping mail at the post office which is a block away and she could do it on her way home at night, etc. A gutsy member tried to talk to the pastor about her and he got very defensive. He thinks she is the best next thing to sliced bread because she can usually fix computer glitches. She is way too social with phone calls, and people who come into the office; she's on Facebook during the day which other members have also noticed. Not a good situation nor very professional imo.

I have laundry in the washer and dryer so should check on them. Also need to dig out the fur person carrier. Enjoy the rest of your day!

06-29-2013, 04:57 PM
Good afternoon gals. It started out fairly cool around 5 AM this morning, but the heat has cranked right up today. We are supposed to meet the kids around 6 PM at Chilis. Kelly said it is too hot and they have a real mosquito problem again this year to have a cookout. I imagine part of the mosquito issue could be their pool, which isn't open this year because they are having a lot of problems getting it fixed I guess.

Jack is getting in cruise mode. He has on white shorts, a tropical shirt and sandals! He said he is going to have a margarita at dinner just to round out cruise mode. He is such a hoot.

We spent nearly $175 at the vets yesterday afternoon, mostly on meds to bring home plus an injection the vet gave him to calm his intestines. I am giving him a syringe of a sulfur drug every morning that supposedly lines the stomach to help with digestion and he is on special food and a yogurt type powder to sprinkle over his food every day to kill bacteria. That alone is $36!!! She said I could give it to him all the time, but I just can't afford it. I already put out $35 a month for his kidney meds and $55 a month for his anti-inflammatory for his arthritis. I may just mix some yogurt in his food and see if he will eat it and if he does just put some plain yogurt in his food everyday. I told Jack I need to go out to Petsmart tomorrow and get a small variety of dog food he hasn't tried yet to get him to eat again. He lost 3 lbs since the first of May from not eating regularly or eating a whole lot less. I am going to have to find a food that will put the weight back on him. You can feel his spine! :( The thing is, I tested him today with a couple things to see if he would eat, one was a dry piece of biscuit which he scarfed right down and the other was a small beef flavored treat which he ate. I had to force feed him twice today which I didn't like to do, but I have to get food into him and he doesn't like the dog food they sent home. I take a tablespoon of that and a tbl of pumpkin and mix it together and I rolled small amounts into bread crumbs to get it into his mouth. It was a fight, but he has gotten two servings into him today and I will do one more tonight if he doesn't eat what I put out for him. It is a test of wills and I am going to win this one so it keeps him alive.

Jean: She sounds like a real winner. Can't your church board do something about it? I mean if she isn't working but getting paid for it, if the board makes decisions for the church like the Baptist churches do, I would cut her salary and plainly tell her why. That way the pastor still has who he thinks is perfect and she if finding out she can't bamboozle the board. It is windy here today too. I just looked out the window next to my desk and the big trees along the main street are blowing like crazy. I too did laundry today and washed sheets.

Well I better go so I can get showered and such to go out to dinner later. Have a nice Saturday all. Faye

I got didn't get a warning about this site today so I'll post again.

It's only 85 degrees today but rain. We have thunderstorms in the forecast through next week. Everything is green and water is standing all over. We've had over 3 extra inches of rain this month.

Faye, I'm sorry Fortune is sick. Poor old dog. Have fun at Chili's.

Jean, did Ian actually eat large blizzards or did he save one for another

Have a wonderful evening.

Good afternoon to you all. It is not as hot and humid, but it is still pretty warm. We left early this morning and went to our favorite family owned restaurant for breakfast. I splurged and had the homemade challah bread stuffed french toast (it had nutella and fresh strawberries in side.) We then drove downtown and found where the county court building is as Jack has jury duty starting the 8th and next weekend we are going to Arkansas to see my sister from Arizona who is going to be there visiting her mother in law with her husband.

I did 3 force feeds yesterday but yahoo got Fortune to eat a partial portion of the homemade dog food today. No vomiting, no runny stools so hopefully he is coming around and I can put the weight back on him. He followed me everytime I went into the kitchen trying to see if I would drop anything.

We had a great time with the kids last night. Kelly brought her laptop and showed me pictures of relatives from past generations as kids. It was pretty cool and she also had a picture of my great aunt and uncle who were really good to my sister and I when we were little.

Susan: Glad to see you again. I can understand not showing up here if you are getting messages about problems. I am running a malware program I have this afternoon just to keep it clear of stuff.

Hope everyone is having a good day today. Tomorrow I need to weigh so hopefully I have gotten some of the water weight back off. I still have a bit of swelling in my feet but not bad and it seems to come and go. Talk to you tomorrow. Faye

Good morning to you all. Finally cool this morning and expecting thunderstorms and rain showers all day into the evening, but nothing yet.

Weighed in today and lost the 3 lbs so I am back to square one. I am still having off and on a bit of feet swelling, but nothing like it did a couple years ago. I want to go back to walking at least in the complex, but I have to get better all around sleep because I go back to sleep when Jack leaves at 5 AM and wake up around 9 and then it is hot already and I am not going out in the heat as I can't drink water while I am walking because my bladder won't hold it.

Going to clean upstairs bathrooms when I get done here. I have to get them done before it gets too hot too. I also started a load of laundry and have to load and unload the dishwasher. I did put down food for Fortune this morning and he is eating for the second day in a row so I sure hope we can get him back to normal. He drank about a gallon of water around 4:30 this morning so he is drinking too. He did vomit a bit of bile around 1 AM and had a bm and though it didn't look totally firm wasn't runny either so :crossed:

We now only have 15 weeks until the cruise and the list lady has started her lists! I started stuff I need to buy like the Bonine and a list of stuff we have to do like dry cleaning, etc. There is something I told Jack yesterday I need to put on the buy list and durn cannot remember what it was for anything. It will probably come up talking about something so I am not too worried. I now have the hotels for the drive down and back all booked. I found a gorgeous brand new Fairfield Inn in Lake City Fl and got a kind sweet for less that $100 with senior rate and that includes a hot buffet breakfast. For some reason, Chattanooga's hotels are outrageous even the crummy ones so I talked with Jack and decided to drive 30 miles further and booked in Dalton, Ga. Their hotels all had different rates too for the Thurs to Friday and then the Mon-Tues stay. We are doing Holiday Inn Express in Dalton because it is a nice hotel according to Trip Advisor and I happen to notice they have stand alone showers instead of tubs. For some reason hotels are putting in high sided tubs and boy do I have trouble getting in and out of them when the side of the tub comes up to my knee. Both these hotels have stand alone showers, which is great. I could book accessible rooms which have walk in showers, but I hate taking a room for a person who is in a wheelchair or uses a walker or cane or such. I just have a crummy knee which makes it hard to get in and out.

I guess I should get in gear and get my work done. Have a lovely start to the week. Faye

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's a beautiful "spring" day in my neighborhood -- 80 degrees, sunny, a breeze, and NO humidity. We balanced at church on the first try, :D I've made the gift shop deposit, ran a couple errands, and checked a couple places for a gift card from Target, or Bed Bath & Beyond with no luck. I did find a $50 one for BB&B but no way for a shower gift. My other choice was one from WM so will call Amanda tonight and see if she will go to BB&B for me. The shower is Friday so if all else fails I will write a check.

"Gma" -- I hear ya on the vet bills! It was $63 for Ernie's visit labeled "wellness." He was weighed, had his ears cleaned out, and two shots. I had to laugh though. I practically had to turn the carrier upside down to get him out, but when it was time to leave he scooted right back in on his own. The Staff, Parish Relations Committee can take suggetions about the church secretary, and talk to her, but the ultimate decision comes from the pastor. Since he thinks she is the cat's meow, I doubt much will happen. I hope, if nothing else, they get her on a time clock and stop the babysitting her granddaughter on church time. If your weather stays so hot and humid, Jack might enjoy sitting on a jury. I hope it is cooler for your trip to Arkansas. Can you take Fortune with you? :congrat: on losing the pesky 3#s! My feet are swelling too; I ate sunflower seeds at the game Thursday night and then riding in the car for 2 1/2 hours wasn't my smartest move.

Susan -- Are you having trouble with mosquitoes with so much rain? They are bad here around dusk for some reason. Ian got one large blizzard Thursday night along with a cheeseburge and fries. He finished most of Bob's fries too. He made his dad promise not to forget he has another large blizzard due soon!

I need to work on a menu for the 4th. Right now I'd just like to show up and let someone else bring the food. It seems like someone is always going to the store for a forgotten item. The 4th at the lake is absolutely crazy with tourists so staying at the cabin is the best, and safest, option.

Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.

Good morning to you all! It is cool this morning but like everyday it is going to crank up by noon or so. I was able to leave the ac off and just run the fans last night.

Fortune seems to be coming back to his old self. When he was feeling bad, he wouldn't get down and bark to go out we had to force him to go outside to empty his bladder and such. I am continuing the syringe of the sulfur meds until it is gone just to be sure but he has a bit more annimation than he did. Well, for Fortune annimation IS barking to go outside! He is up on the couch pillow asleep right now.

We are doing absolutely nothing for the 4th but hanging at the house I imagine. That's ok though. Maybe we will take a drive or go out to eat, but that would be about it. Like I have said before I don't go to fireworks around here as I think you are asking to be mugged or something. Also, my knee just isn't up to the walking, especially after dark when I can't see ruts and stuff in the grass. We'll get to listen all night though as the idiots here light off stuff (it is illegal in Tenn btw) all night long. I gave up years ago calling the cops. They are too busy going after shootings and fights and such. We aren't #5 in the worst places to visit for nothin.'

Jean: I made this really good potato salad to try it. Well, I used the ingredients but made my own potato salad and added the stuff. It is called loaded potato salad and besides your mayo base and potatoes and boiled eggs, you add bacon, scallions, and cheese like a loaded baked potato. They actually make it with mashed potatoes but I think that sounds icky. I never was any good at getting my boiled potatoes right so I used those canned sliced potatoes and it comes out great. I do something though most don't and that is I add a bit off mustard and just a little sugar to my mayo mixture. I used the same filling for deviled eggs. Our Krogers has tons of gift cards to choose from. Of course, we have several actual Targets here in town. You know, you can go online and get an e certificate. is a good one and they have tons of stores. I looked and they have suggestions for showers or baby or wedding too if you scrolled down it is on the left part way down the page. I would check it out.

Well here is it is 8 already and I haven't even started my day. You all have a great day! Faye

Good morning ladies! 75 right now with Flash Flood Warnings today and rain. I think this is the longest spell of rain day after day we've had in many years.
And yes, Jean, the mosquitos are big enough to carry us off. The bad thing is that with all the rain the ground is still dry after you go down about a foot. It's not the good long, slow soaking rain, but torrents with thunder and lightening.

I have nothing planned for the 4th. There's always a lot going on here in Yorktown at the battle field with parade and fireworks and things all day long for that's where the Revolutionary War ended.

Faye, we have a ban on home fireworks here but they still set them off. I don't really care. We did it when we were kids. I'm getting ready to walk a 10k in October for the Kidney Foundation. Not too bad for a 72 year old. Exercise is so important to keeping flexible and strong I'll keep on doing it as long as I can. Yesterday I did Water Aerobics, water zumba, and yoga for a total of 3 hours. I'm still reved up today. I'll be doing strength training this afternoon for 45 minutes. I'm glad Fortune is feeling better. Casper has decided he doesn't like his cat food any more. He wants Fancy Feast but that's too expensive for every day in my budget.

Jean, do it you all get together and plan whose taking what to the lake as far as food? I'm sure it would be nice for you to be able to sit back and enjoy yourself for a change.

Maggie still won't come here.

Have a great day!

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining and it's a cool 65 degrees this morning. I have a "to do" list and a few things are crossed off already. I'm in charge of receiving checks and reservations from northwest Iowa P.E.O. groups for a luncheon up at the lake July 16th. Out of 27 chapters and 6 state officers I haven't heard from 7 chapters and 4 officers. Cut off was to be June 30; I have to get their money to our treasurer and the names of people going to another member. Makes me grumpy that people don't follow directions! :hyper:

"Gma" -- I'm so glad Fortune is feeling better! He and Ernie would get along well in the napping routine. Sometimes Ernie snores and he is so funny. Our neighbors on the lake side will have firecrackers and the "kids" are older than ours. I feel sorry for all the animals, inside and out. I just put potatoes, eggs, and onions in my salad with mustard and Miracle Whip dressing. :T I don't measure, just dump. Bob's mom would put radishes, celery, and green olives in her's. I thought it was so weird the first time I had it. Thanks for the gift certificate site idea. I called Amanda last night and she is going to pick one up for me as she drives past BB&B on her way home from work. I know I will make it to Target before the wedding so can pick one up there.

Susan -- I'll bet you feel like you are living in a monsoon. :rain: That was our spring. Believe it or not, with all the excess rain we had, there are now cracks in the yard. Fireworks are illegal in Iowa, but both South Dakota and Nebraska are just across the river an hour away, where they are legal. There is usually some local dummy who either gets burned or sets something on fire. Our evening fireworks are set off to go over the lake and they are pretty. We usually take meat to the lake depending on how many people are going to be there and how long they are staying. Sometimes we end up with extra people we didn't know were stopping by. :o I usually make a salad, cut up veggies, baked beans, and brownies or bars. I try to touch base with Beth and Amanda so we don't duplicate. We aren't staying overnight this year; Beth is staying for a few days and think Jason is planning just overnight. I've given up keeping track because invariably they change their plans midway. Does Casper eat dry food? I give the boys 1/4 can of Fancy Feast in the morning and there is dry food out for the rest of the day. Sonny has been behaving like a 2 year old when it's time for bed; he turns his nose up at the treats and manages to elude going downstairs. Bob opens the basement door when he comes to bed and Ernie was in our room doing laps at 3 AM! Tonight they are both shut in the basement come he** or high water!

I noticed on Maggie's email she uses the same security program I have. I never did get a warning here, so don't know if her settings are different or what.

I came upstairs to pick up dirty laundry so need to keep moving. My car lease is up the end of July so Bob is bringing home a different car to try. We could keep what I have now, and make it simpler.Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning to you gals. Lovely morning so far, just the right amount of heat and coolness. I haven't had to run the ac so that is always nice.

I am going to try and get upstairs and clean bathrooms today. Lately my knees have been killing me first thing in the morning than they hurt so bad at night I have to take medication just to get to sleep. I put roll on icy hot on them when they are really bad, but a sheet or blanket even if I wait until they are completely dry ends up with that stuff on them so most of the time I don't mess with it. It is too hard to try and keep a heating pad on one or the other.

Kelly has been working on ancestry stuff and found out a lot of things about my dad's side of the family we had never been able to dig up and even found pictures of my grandmother and her siblings as children. It was pretty cool. Between she and Jack they have stuff on some lineages back to the 1500's. She even found that my family came over on the mayflower! Interesting stuff to pass on to your kids and such if they are interested in having it.

They have a bunch of new fabrics for dresses for the cruise so I am glad I decided to hold off ordering. They have a real wild colored one that Jack really loves so I imagine that is one I will order. I am waiting until at least the end of the month. I can't believe that after tomorrow we will be under a 100 days, only 3 months and a week or so. Time to start digging in and really start generating all those lists!

Susan: I didn't explain myself very well. I meant calling the cops when they set them off around all the trees we have here and still shooting them off at 3 in the morning when most people are done celebrating and trying to sleep, especially when it is like it is this year and you have to go to work the next day. Can you try and buy some Fancy feast then take a partial of each little can and mix it will current cat food? I know that stuff comes in itty bitty cans so you have to feed them several cans sometimes. That's the way Caesar is with Fortune. I have to fix 2 of them and even at the commissary they aren't cheap and the selection is crummy too.

Jean: Have you ever had egg salad with olives? It is pretty normal down here I guess. There is a place called Holiday Ham that makes it and it has a spicy kick to it. I like egg salad sweeter, but this is pretty darn good. I guess egg salad with olives is like having grits with breakfast down here, that's just what you do. Fortune's eating when he isn't sick drives me kuckoo sometimes. I told Jack I think what happens is he gets a tummyache and vomits and whatever and when he gets better and wants to eat, he associates the smell of that dog food with being sick so won't eat it and I have to change. He has a grooming appt in a couple weeks so I am going to buy a few samples and see if I can get him back to eating dog food. I try my best to make it healthy when I have to make dog food, but I prefer a good dog food I know he is getting all he needs. I guess at his point in life though, just having him eat is an accomplishment.

Well to the chores and a bite of breakfast. Have a great holiday tomorrow! Faye

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's another nice sunny, no wind day in my neighborhood. If feels more like spring than summer. I made a list and headed to the grocery store this morning. Our 20 cent Tuesdays have changed to 30 cent Thursdays. The whole time I was there the guy kept making the announcement to come back tomorrow and shop to save the 30 cents a gallon. I told the checker that I thought they should have had it today when most people would be doing their holiday shopping. Now we have to spend $30 to get the 30 cents. Anyhow, now I have to make my brownies and beans after I close out the gift shop books for the week. It will be closed tomorrow and Friday so will be a skimpy deposit for sure.

"Gma" -- Do you have arthritis in your knees? My "mom" is using a cream that she got at Walgreens and said it really helps. I will have to ask her the name of it. Be sure to share the picture of the dress(es) you order for the cruise. I don't think I've ever had olives in egg salad. I like olives so will give it a try. You are a good doggy mom to Fortune. :D

I have laundry to fold and put away so guess I will head to the basement. I really need to do some serious cleaning down there now that it's dry again. Not my favorite thing to do nor place to be. Hope you all enjoy a Wonderful Wednesday!

07-04-2013, 01:23 PM

I tinkered with my computer settings and hopefully I can post this.

It is a beautiful 4th of July this summer day in the 80ºs. Will still has to do his volunteer day at the museum but will cut it short. They are having a "doings" down there this day. There will be fireworks out near where the buffalo are in a field where folks can sit on the hill across the road and have a great view. They start setting up their lawn chairs about 4 o'clock picking their spots. The parade is tomorrow and they have the street blocked off for its route. It is quite a happy time here in the ♥-Land on this Independence Day.

This evening we will be firing up the BBQ and have a nice meal from that. I am thinking of doing some veggies in a basket on the grill for they are so yummy that way.

The time has come once again for me to clean off my desk. I wonder who comes in here and re-arranges my things.

BTW my bracelet now weighs 5.4 ounces at its fullest. Yep it has its last charm installed. I love having it to be a constant reminder to stay OP.

I'll not so any personals now for I have been kicked off here once already for "web attack:fakeAVdowload2".
Have a great evening Magnolias.

Good morning to you all. It is cool here this morning but as usual going to heat up by this afternoon. I have a load of laundry in the washer and still have to finish morning chores. This weekend is going to be a busy one for us as we are going to Arkansas to see my sister and family tomorrow then Sunday is commissary day. I haven't even messed with a menu or list yet so have to get that done today.

We didn't do anything yesterday but hang out at the house. Jack fixed us a couple steaks for dinner, but for some reason I have been having some trouble with my colon for a week or so and I just ate some of my dinner and let it go at that.

Jack said no one was going to be at work today so I imagine he won't be doing much as most jobs are 2 person things. Jack told me one of the supervisors fell into the lagoon completely and lost his glasses, his phone, his pager all of it. He is a volunteer fireman for the suburb my dd lives in and everything went in on top of the danger to him being in raw sewage, YCK! He has to decontaminate and probably had to leave work and go get a tetanus shot. That's what Jack did when he went in just his lower body a few years ago. The job can be nasty at times and even dangerous.

You should see the top shelf of my computer. I post notes of upcoming events and such and the thing is full. I have grooming and hair appt, auto renewal stuff so I don't forget like my virus program, the trip tomorrow and a couple other things. We have to take Thomas at 11 PM to catch his bus for scout jamboree. His parents anniversary is Friday and they are leaving on a cruise while he is gone and so asked us if we could take him. Be a late night for us!

Jean: I do have arthritis in both knees, but the main problem is my right knee is damaged, but there is no reason to fix it unless I am at proper weight as it could just reinjure. I just work with best I can. Hope you had a good time at the lake. We had some late night fireworks set off here in the complex so I sat up half the night to make sure they didn't set trees or our garage on fire as they set them off on our street. Fortune wouldn't settle down either until they quit. Jack told me that soda companies/grocery stores are soon not going to offer specials like around the holidays anymore. He says Krogers is going to lower the overall price a bit and leave it at that. I'll believe it when I see it. I figure they will just quit the special 4 case deals and keep the price the same or even raise it.

Maggie: One of the reasons there is so much spy and malware here is the advertising. Those little buggers love to jump on the back of the advertising and the only way the sisters can offer us free forum is to advertise. What this particular one is, is a fake antivirus software. Your Norton takes care of it so nothing to sweat about.

Have a good day gals and a nice weekend. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! It is a hazy cool morning in my neighborhood. I have been to visit my doctor already this morning. Sonny wouldn't go downstairs last night so Ernie came up sometime during the night. He jumped up on the bed and I was scratching his ears when he chomped down on my arm leaving four bite marks. Given my history of getting infection and ending up in the ER, I decided to go in. They have a new/different phone system and I waited "on hold" for 20 minutes! I'm surprised my bp wasn't off the chart. Anyhow, will be on a high dose of penicillin and yogurt (yuck) for a week. The shower is at 11 and then we will head down the road to a funeral visitation later this afternoon. The guy was only 67 and hired Bob 32 years ago. They have kids the same age as ours, and lived here for several years so knew them through church and social functions as well. He has had several different cancers over the last few years; a nice guy and NOT fair.

Maggie -- Glad to see you made it in here yesterday. Does your bracelet make noise when you move? ;) It was quite windy at the lake yesterday. We all sat outside for awhile, then were in and out. Lots of good food and family fun. The fireworks don't start until 10 so we headed home before dark. Wind makes me tired and I slept most of the way. :o

"Gma" -- You have a busy weekend planned. I hope it's not too hot for your travels. It's nice you can see your sister. When I pick up my prescription, I am going to look for the arthritis cream. It's called Australian Dream Arthritis Cream; I know it's pricey but if it helps the pain that's what counts. Our one grocery store has Pepsi products 4/$11.00 and the other store advertised Coke for the same price. I just read where a regular 20 oz. Coke has 17 teaspoons of sugar.

I need to go get my prescription and some yogurt. Hope you all enjoy your day!

07-06-2013, 03:31 PM
Good afternoon, I'm not feeling the best. I took the 2nd dose of medicine last night about 10 with some crackers. That didn't stay down very long and then the diarrhea started. The redness was spreading this morning so to the ER I went. I got a high powered shot in my rear and a new script to start tonight. I just ate a few Cheerios and they came right back up. Now I have Jell-o setting up in the fridge. We have a surprise birthday/anniversary later this afternoon but may have to skip that. I know I will skip the food. Momma cat showed up after dark last night but no kittens.

"Gma," Hope you are enjoything the day with your sister and family.
Hope you all enjoy your day!

07-07-2013, 07:26 PM
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's a hot one in my corner of the world this afternoon! The thermometer said 91 after lunch but the Weather Bug says it's now 86; whatever, the humidity is high with very little breeze. It's either feast or famine -- too windy or no wind. We went to church and enjoyed a quartet that sings for an hour and a half. They are not contemporary but more along the line of Gaither and very good. There was a potluck afterwards but we didn't stay since I didn't fix food yesterday. Bob fixed fish on the grill -- yum!

I am feeling much better today and the meds are staying down. My wrist is bending without as much pain so that's a plus. I have too much going on this week to be laid up.

I hope you all are enjoying a nice day and evening.

07-08-2013, 09:18 AM
Good morning gals. Boy it is humid here this morning. No turning off ac as it was hot and sticky all morning. I am going to have breakfast in a bit then tackle the upstairs before it gets too hot.

I just sent hubby off to first day of jury duty. He bought a suduko puzzle book yesterday to entertain himself. He said he would keep me up to date as he knew things. He said if he called and said he got picked and they are going to sequester, I will have to pack him a bag. They give you like 3 hours to get home, pack and go back. Hopefully, they won't even need him and he will be done by Wednesday. Most places do call ins, but of course, Memphis has to be different. They pay you $11 only if you are picked so the day you have to take off to go to the convention center to start the whole thing, you have to pay for your own parking, then today, we have to pay for the gas, the parking, his lunch, and do that everyday until he is excused. On top of that, we are lucky as the city doesn't take your pay for the day, but they will subtract the puny $11 from your pay if you are selected. The only thing that irks me is having to pay for all the stuff just to sit there, especially the parking. It is outrageous prices even in the cheap lots you pay $10 a day. Ahh well.

Thomas is going to boy scout jamboree on Friday night so we will be taking him as his parents are leaving for a cruise for their anniversary while he is gone. I am sure he is getting excited to do that and meet all the boys from different parts of the country and such.

Jean: I am so glad you are feeling better. Fortune is eating again as I bought Mighty Dog at the commissary yesterday and he loved it. I am feeding him twice a day, a can each time (they are about the size of a tuna can) and maybe I can get his weight back up and get his bowels and stuff back to totally normal. Poor little thing is having a rough time with his hip though because I would give him his pill and he would urp it back up so he hasn't been getting the anti inflammatory for awhile now. Now that he is eating, I am crushing it into his food right in the middle on top so I know he gets it. Hopefully, that will improve. He goes out to go to the bathroom then will stand on the deck and refuse to come back in because he it hurts him to come over the threshold I guess. I didn't want to start this, but I am physically putting him on the furniture instead of him jumping because he won't jump up as I think it hurts him. He is snoozing right now after gulping down breakfast. I hope the anxiety of him not eating being removed, my diverticulitis will calm down. I have had problems for about 2 weeks now and am sure it is because of Fortune being sick. We had a nice time in Arkansas on Saturday. My bil has 7 siblings and most of them live close by my aunts house so they all come over, plus a couple of friends of theirs so it was a full house. I got a nice visit with my sister and cousins. The only problem with the trip to see my sister was coming back home for the last 80 miles or so, the bugs were really swarming and they hit the windshield so thick it sounded like hard rain. We used up our washing stuff trying to keep the windshield clean enough to drive. I had just had the car washed Friday evening and it came home all bugged up.

I guess I better get started for the day. You all have a grand start to your week. We only have 14 weeks now until the cruise so I am really getting into list mode. I have the last excursion to purchase next week and I want to start on what I want to buy clothing wise too. Faye
