Default IP and Alternatives: how to mix the two?

I started IP 6 weeks ago and I am happy with the results. I have been reading about people mixing IP packets and some alternative packets. How does one go on deciding which IP packets to stick with and which ones to get from the alternative ones? Is this done just strictly based on "taste" or other info?

Sorry if this question has been answered previously.

Thanks

The alternative thread would have been a good place to ask this.
Personally, I had to cut a BUNCH of IP products when I cut soy/gluten for health reasons so I found other products that would work for me.

That's completely up to you. For me, there were a few IP products I really liked and so I kept using them, and bought alternative brand produts to round out what I needed each week. As long as you are choosing alternative products that match IP products nutritionally (and there are guidelines for this posted several times in the Alternatives thread) and following the 1 restricted-2 unrestricted rule, it doesn't matter whether you use IP or alternative products.

Which soy/gluten products did you cut from the IP program? I'm having thyroid issues and wonder if cutting out those products might help....
