Hi guys,

New here, just out of curiosity how many calories are you eating, whats your workout and how have you done?

I know everyones different and we all have different requirements but its quite interesting to see the range everyone manages!

I'm doing approx 1300 calories a day with one day every two weeks at 2000 calories (not for a "cheat day" as such but i like to go out for dinner with my husband and i've given up worrying too much about the calories)

I am doing 30ds but been off it for a few days due to a lil bit of a slump. I started out at a high weight of 182lbs (i think) am now 166.6lbs 10lbs of which i've lost in the last four weeks.

Good question. Though as you already know you're going to get a ton of different answers and things that have worked well for other people won't work for you.

I'm 5'7 and I started off at 211 pounds. I randomly set my calories at 1650 and stuck with that for about 4 months. In that time I lost 26 pounds and did hardly any exercise. After that I fluctuated between 1400 and 1500 for about 3 months. I lost about 13 pounds during that time and started introducing exercise, mainly running, about a month into that time period.

I am currently starting a lifting program where the emphasis is to eat more especially on days when you lift. I'm not going to listen very well to that advice as my goal is to net 1530 calories, however every day I do exercise I eat back those calorie.

Wow changegirl you've done really well!! I'm experiencing a bit of a motivation slump with the exercise at the moment, I know it will help but I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment.

Did you change up your calories when your weight loss slowed?

I eat about 1,500 when in weight loss mode, 2,000 to maintain. My rate of loss may vary, but if I continue to eat 1,500/day over several weeks and months I always lose weight. Eating any less than that makes me grumpy and overly focused on food.

I hear ya freelancemomma,

Quick question, i have two trips abroad coming up, one to go home to visit family end of july and then a proper holiday in september, do you find droping calories in the week or two before and after vacations helps to stabalise your weight? We moved to a dry country so trips home and abroad inevitably involve a bit of booze, bit worried as i do tend to pack on the pounds when i leave the country! I am planning to be a lot more mindful this time round!

After a vacation, definitely. Before the trip... I generally don't have the drive to reduce my calories preemptively. I always tell myself that I won't indulge during the vacation, and I'm always wrong!

Lol yeah i've been trying to convince myself that i wont be installing myself in the nearest pub when i go home, plus my mother in law is an amazing cook, my husband and i STUFF ourselves when we visit. Lets not even start on my holiday holiday....

Everyone seems to be doing really well!!

Alyssa, is it because your appetite has reduced due to calorie counting? I'm another reluctant exerciser! Managed a couple of weeks of 30ds and then during my TOM i slacked off the past week, tomorrow i will get my backside in gear!

I don't have a doctor yet, I JUST bought Health Insurance and I have to get the card in the mail before I can find a doctor. I also have to get an MRI and a Heart Monitor, so I do have quite a few issues I need to see a doctor for, and the lack of appetite will be dealt with quickly.

My BMR is 1900 calories.

I've been between 1200-1900. I work retail so I walk 7 hours a day/5 days a week.

I eat between 2300-2400 calories a day. I should be eating around 1,800-1,900, but I am breastfeeding, so I add an additional 500 calories. I run 3x a week and do a kettle bell routine 3x a week.

I try to stay between 1300 and 1700 cals and keep my cals around 50. I also workout 2-4 times a week (trying to find the time and motivation to bump that up to 5 times a week though).

I used to just cut cals, I was staying at or under 1300 a day and while it worked initially, I stalled after a few weeks. Cutting carbs and adding in more protein has really helped keep me on track.

I eat between 900 and 1200 calories a day during the week - but a lot more at the weekend - up to 2000 some days!

I need to get this under control

I eat between 1400-1500 a day right now to lose weight ...but with my weight as high as it is right now I wonder if I should be eating more...I am not currently exercising as I just started back getting OP. But I know I need to, and I can say that I hate exercising, I hate to sweat...only thing I halfway enjoy is walking outside and that is only when it's not humid.

I try to keep it around 1200 on days that I don't exercise much, but up to 1500 on days when I bust my hump.

I am at 1200 calories a day. I walk 7 days a week for 30 minutes outdoors.

I eat 2300 a day. I just did the math - averaged out from my food log. I'm not a heavy exerciser - I do weights a couple times a week (or try to!) and walk 4 days a week on my treadmill at 3mph. I should be getting my heart rate up, but I'm kind of a lazy exerciser. I watch TV while doing it.
I've been logging my food for a heck of a long time, like 7 years. It's become an addiction - seriously, I can't stop it! I have lost 7 pounds in the last two years, and really do want to lose more, but I find it so difficult to stay on any kind of restricted eating routine. That's why I'm here. I just gotta buckle down and stop eating so much and move my butt more.....

I used to eat 1200-1600 calories but I've changed my calorie goal and I eat 800-1000 calories nowadays. I'm trying to see if it works for me.

I'm just starting with counting calories again, this time making it a lifestyle change instead of a "diet". I'm allowing myself up to 2000 per day, just so I don't feel the need to binge with starting out with too few calories. This doesn't mean I'll consume that many calories a day, but I am giving myself the leeway, if I feel I need that many.

This is all really interesting, i don't know if this will help but i found having a high fat breakfast keeps my hunger at bay, as i posted elsewhere i tend to have small avocado and some walnuts. Occasionally i grab the all bran but generally i don't really get hungry anymore, i've found it easier to stick to than previous attempts and loads of water.

At your weight and height, I would not recommend going that low. Go to freedieting.com to find a more appropriate calorie budget. 800 is not even recommended for super petite women. Your body need nutrients to survive.

I am 5'3.5/ 145 and eat an average of 1500 a day to maintain. I do a bit of cardio and weight lifting 3x a week.( light to moderate)

I aim to average 1500 a day. But my food diary looks more like 1500-1200-1800-1000-2000-1400-1600 etc etc. I run or walk (or both) every day unless I'm sick (can't sleep otherwise).

I just started 10 days ago and have been doing 1200-1250. I feel really out of it today but I decided to give up diet sodas 3 days ago. I have a serious addiction! Usually have 6 cans of diet dr pepper a day (or more!). Only had 1 today ... might do 1 or 0 tomorrow. I've read all about how bad it is for years, and my kids and friends have all told me to quit and I never wanted to - it's my only vice! (Ok, sugar). But I tried to increase my water (which has been none for several years) and noticed I drank a lot less soda, so I just decided to quit!

Is there any value in spiking calories one day a week or alternating? I did the 17-day diet a year ago (yeah, that didn't work but in there you alternate calories basically). So wondering if anyone here does that intentionally. Thanks!

Yep, all kinds of answers here...

This is my first post in a year or so but the question caught my eye...

I can't eat over about 1300 (max) calories and lose but I'm over 50, can't exercise, and I'm virtually sedentary due to medical issues. I take a medication that has a "steroid effect" which may also make it harder to lose.

However, I can't give up.

I'm back to counting calories now. I know it works, even for someone like me, as long as I don't quit. :p

NEVER QUIT!!!

Calcounter, i've found doing one high calorie day every two to three weeks works well for me. As you have seen from initial post i was trying one high cal day a week but i think it set me back.

I would try it and see what happens! Trial and error!

Eatmorecelery, Well done for your show of tenacity! I know a few people who've used steroids and it is difficult to keep your weight down, but you are doing a fantastic job sticking to it. Eventually it comes off!

Mia zoe, is there a reason you have dropped your calories? I'm not criticising, i'm just curious?
