Here you go Joanne. All you have to do is click on new thread rather than new reply, and you can start one anytime. I forget that not everyone has DSL - I never have problems with the long threads.
MKK - welcome back to you to. Isn't this great?? The only bummer is that more of us haven't reached goal yet. In fact, some like myself, are starting over once again. But I will get there and will love the support of you wonderful people along the way!!

MKK, CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's wonderful about the new baby! :)
Major salt and starch attack yesterday. It's the week before TOM, and I should just get a container of salt and pour it in my mouth or something. At least I'd be under points! Why on earth is it that I crave the thing I need the least???
Ah, well. Off to go do my workout and get rid of some of the damage.
Thanks for starting a new thread, Cynthia.

Good morning, Folks!
It's sunny here today. Guess Mother Nature's making up for the 12+ additional inches of snow she dropped on us Friday/Saturday. It was the heavy, wet stuff, too. Yuck! Oh, well. It's supposed to be above freezing for the next few days so the roads and sidewalks will clear up quickly.
We wouldn't have been able to attend the WW meeting on Saturday anyway. It was cancelled due to the storm (didn't stop snowing until noon). Jen was OK with missing the meeting. She really seemed to understand my reason for postponing it. Maybe she's finally starting to grow up. (One can only hope.)
How is the weather were the rest of you are located? Is it interferring with your exercise plans? What do you do when you can't go outside for a walk or get to the gym? I have some free weights, work-out tapes, and an exercise cycle. Do the rest of you have "back-ups" to your normal routine? I'm looking for suggestions to add to my list so I don't get bored and quit that part of my "healthier me" program.
Jen and I are going to Fashion Bug this afternoon. She has some money left over from holiday/birthday gifts that is burning a hole in her pocket. We tried to convince her to wait until she'd been on program for a month or so but she wants to buy now. Poor, kid. Looks like she's got my shopping bug. :dizzy: I'm thinking of checking the clearance racks for a really nice outfit that is one size too small. Sort of an incentive to stick to program. I'm thinking of hanging it on the back of my bedroom door as a daily reminder of my goals. Anyone else use a trick like this? It worked for a friend of mine (she had a knock-out, designer dress she got at a second-hand store for a song -- yes, she eventually got into it).
Gotta go. Store opens in an hour and I need to get ready.

Good question for today, since it has been snowing here since last night. March is our snowiest month. Yesterday I was able to get my walk around the park, even though it had started snowing some. I figured, hey, people ski in worse conditions that this, so I can certainly walk it. But once there is a good layer of snow on the ground I can't do it - even though I was born in Colorado I'm still a clutz when it comes to walking on hardpack snow or ice :o
So, I have a spin bike on the top floor. DH got me a mini stereo system with a CD player. I like to put on a CD and pedal to the beat of the song. That way I can change up tempo and it's not as boring as just sitting there for 30 minutes. I am going to add a VCR to the tv there so I can use spin tapes. I have a weight bench, free weights, and Nordic Trak in the basement. I prefer to do weights at home since I just despise having to wait for a machine. Plus I just like freeweights better anyway. I also have a gym membership at 24-hour Fitness. Once I get a bit more fit I'll be able to just laugh at the bad weather and head for the trails for some snowshoeing or cross country skiing.
My ultimate exercise goal is to do things, not just exercise. I would like to join a women's softball team, get back into Kendo (Japanese Fencing), mountain bike, snow shoe, ski, hike, you get the picture. Find activities that keep me fit and are social and fun rather than solo. I've always wanted to take up handball, too. Plus I love to golf.
Hope you and Jen find some fun stuff for her to spend her money on.

Hi!
My but you are very athletic oriented. I'm sooo envious. My idea of sport participation is to hand the paper cups of water to the runners. :o I have been playing with the idea of biking and maybe hiking this summer. I used to like those activities as a kid/teen. Maybe I can get the whole family into it. We'll see.
Jen found two pairs of jeans that fit (barely). She decided to get them rather than the next size up and use them as her incentive to stay OP. :D That's my kid! I didn't find anything to use as my incentive but I have boxes of favorite, too small outfits in the attic so I'll probably just pick one of them.
I feel as you do about waiting for the equipment at a gym. My membership was up for renewal at the local gym when they ran their latest membership ad. All of a sudden all of these young, skinny girls (too young to be considered women) were hogging the equipment, talking to each other, and making eyes at the buff guys. Puhleeze!! That's what bars and nightclubs are for! After waiting over twenty minutes to use the last piece of equipment in my routine, I finally gave up. When asked if I wanted to renew my membership, I declined. John has made a vague offer to set up a room with an exercise bench and other small pieces of equipment IF I show a serious tendancy to actually use the stuff. In other words, it can't sit and gather dust like the exercise cycle that he got me for Christmas in 1999 because I "just had to have it". :o
Well, it's getting late and tomorrow a work day. :( Hope your weekend was grand!

Hi all,
I had a nice long post typed yesterday, and when I hit send it gave me a message that the boards were down for 1 hour and I lost the post. ARGHH!!
As for exercise, I use my treadmill (definately do it longer and stronger if I have TV to watch), and I also have a couple "Leslie Sansone" walking videos that I really like. I prefer to walk outdoors, but we live in the middle of nowhere and have no sidewalks, so walking this time of year is tough. Of course after all this snow we have (at least 7 feet between the storm in February and last weeks storms), I'll be waddling in Mud until June!!
Hope you all had a great weekend. Have to get kids off to school and my butt in the shower.

I'm not a big social exerciser myself. I'm an introvert, and after spending all day interacting with people I just want some space and time to myself. So for me, I enjoy walking outdoors (when the weather is decent) and doing workout tapes. I did belong to a gym once, long ago, and when the equipment was available I enjoyed using it. But it was definitely a meat market for girls wearing anal floss (sorry, but I do not find those things attractive) and guys who injected steroids to get more pumped up. Not my kind of scene.
DH belongs to a health club nearby that is apparently much more low key. I may look into going there with him at some point.
Somebody actually noticed my weight loss this week! Woo-hoo! She said "It's really starting to show." After three years and 59 pounds, I'll take it!

All right, WI today produced a 3.8 lb. loss. Glad I didn't do the usual bingeing while DH is away on business :). It snowed all day yesterday and I was worried I would fall on my @$$ walking to my car from the game last night. The sidewalks were slick. Nothing worse than a fat lady going down in a crowd. You don't get much sympathy. But I made it to the car intact and with my pride :smug:
Joanne - what a smart girl Jen is, thinking about the future. At least she'll get a longer use of the clothes for her money. I used to belong to the YMCA in Colorado Springs and they were great. People actually just wanted to work out there. It's the same at my club now, no one tries to dress sexy and they are there for business, but I am about the oldest ones. Most seem to be young folks without jobs or something, because the place is crowded even at 3:00 p.m. on a weekday.
Sheri - I always use <ctrl><C> if I make a long post. Then if I have to redo it, I can just past - either to the 3fc site or to Word. I've been stung too many times by those computer glitches. :( Bummer having no sidewalks, I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get in my walk at least a few times a week.

Good afternoon, Folks!
So, how different is the current WW program from the original 1-2-3 Success program? I've seen commercials that make it sound like they've improved the program but they don't mention how. It'd be nice to have a clue before we go to our first meeting on Saturday. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Setina - just love the Watermelon. You inspired me to find a picture of Queen Elizabeth I. It's amazing what us redheads can do once we set our minds to something ;)
JD (I think we should all go initials, like a gang or something), I am only on week 2 so can't get too much into details. First off, the point ranges have been reduced, and there's only a 5 point spread between max and min rather than 7 points. At week 3 (I think) you get a points booster that calcs how many exercise points you earn. It's now based on your weight times the minutes times the intensity. I have the equation if you are interested. You start earning these points the minute you exercise, no more 20 minute base. I think that's why the point ranges have been reduced - to get you off your butt.
Some veggies now count - once you get to 1 c. of carrots and onions they count as a point. You'll get a list of those in your week 1 booklet. I've now switched to cherry tomatoes. Also, I think later on, you will learn how to decide if you need more carbs or more protein. There are 12 weeks of booklets. My WW leader, whom I love, says she's been doing this for 14 years and this is the best program she's seen yet. She liked all the info and she feels that WW is trying to educate us more about ourselves. Guess I'll know after week 12, eh?
It is one beautiful day here today. I've gone to the library and checked out a couple of books I found on the Nobel Prize Literature winners list and will make a pot of tea, sit on my porch swing, and read away.

Hi all,
Well tomorrow night is weigh-in. One thing in my favor is that I did exercise 5 times this week. Wish the eating has been better. I remember last year when I started faithfully exercising it took a couple of weeks to show. I really wish all this snow would go away. I think a little spring would get me more motivated. Our children did not have school again today, as we got another 5 inches of snow and then sleet last night. Right now it is snowing again. ARGGHH!!
Cynthia - I checked out your website. Real cool. I loved your old one too. I am so inspired by other people's commitments not only to themselves, but to help others. I am glad you post your journal also. I can imagine it is hard when the week hasn't been too good, but most everyone will take the bad with the good. We all have those days (or weeks, or months ...)!!
Mare - glad the scale is moving for you. I was on a 46 week plateau last year, and unfortunately am starting another one now. It seems to be those ten pound losses I can't beat. Took me 46 weeks to get under 200 from 205, and now I'm at 18 weeks trying to get under 190 from 195. My body just hasn't been this weight in many, many years so it is really rebeling!!
Have to get to bed. Will let you know how weigh-in goes tomorrow. Am definately staying for the meeting too. Keeping my fingers crossed my daughter does well too (that's another story I'll have to touch on later)!

I sent you a private message - just asking for your e-mail address so I can send you and invite to my photo album. However, you can get there through my web page now - click on Queenie's War Room at the bottom of my signature. On the Weapons Page are a lot of links and under misc is one for my travel photos. You'll also find an album of my pics from the All-Star weekend. DH and I had great seats. I got some pictures of Burke for mom. There's 113 total!! Playoffs are just around the corner!!!!
SJR - the web page helps me as well since I don't want to have to post too many points and stuff. Another tool to help keep me honest. Sorry about the snow, we have clear skies here today and I went out for my walk. I'm hoping this keeps up so I can get some golf practice in as well. Good luck on your WI.

Wow, and I thought MY plateau was discouragingly long! You folks are awesome.
I did find out something interesting when I went to Cyberdiet and filled out a profile to find out how much I should be eating in order to lose 1 pound per week. They said -- 1200 calories. That's 24 points, or the absolute bottom of my range.
I think they're right. I think I eat too much on WW, and that's why I hit these long plateaus where my weight barely budges. But I'm also not willing to eat less right now. I'm going to work toward it.
I'm up a pound this week, mostly due to TOM.
Onward and downward,

Congratulations on the huge loss, Setina! I hope they can find something to help you with those migraines soon. That sounds so exhausting.
I've been in hormonal **** and eating accordingly. TOM finally arrived today, so I'm sure I'll be getting back on track now. I wish I didn't do this every month. I do great all month, and then I have these few days when no carbohydrate is safe from me (especially if it has lots of salt!).
I'm thinking that if I cook up a whole bunch of interesting veggie dishes and freeze them, I could pull them out during Hormonal **** Week and stuff my face with them without doing too much damage. Anyone have some great very low point veggie recipes to share? I can eat anything but broccoli (I like it but it makes me very sick).

Hi all,
Well, it's Sunday morning and I have been pretty good OP-wise so far. And I'm even keeping up the exercise. Pretty scary. I taped Erin Brokavich and I watch it in the basement while I'm doing my treadmill. Seems to be working so far in keeping me motivated. I'm almost through the whole movie though, so I'll have to find a new one to tape.
I was up 1 pound at weigh-in on Wednesday. I knew I wasn't doing that well in the points area. I find it so hard to stay under 27 points!! We'll see how this week goes.
Lauren - I can ditto you on the TOM eating. It is very frustrating to me also. Try as I might I usually cannot control it. I try not to have as much junk food in the cupboards around that time of month. But that usually doesn't work either.
Joanne - did you and Jen get to a meeting this weekend? My daughter goes with me. She is not doing very well, but continues to go. She had a 30lb gain last summer (mostly from just sitting around), and I think that made her realize she needed to do something. I've decided that if she continues to want to go, I will pay for it. She may not be losing, but at least she is eating better and conscious (sp?) of what and how she's eating. She is also a big framed girl. I get a bit frustrated because WW thinks that teenagers should weigh 120lbs. She will never be an 120lb person. She is just not built that way. My husband jokes that she is built for power, not speed. Her current pass is up at the end of April, so we'll see if she wants to keep going.
Setina - glad to see you!! Great loss last week.
Well, need to get some breakfast, and then it's housework time. RAH!! Talk to you all soon.

Yikes - too much beer and food this weekend, after a good week. The scale was up 2 lbs. at my meeting today. The good news was that I DID go to the meeting, whereas in the past I wouldn't have wanted that nasty gain to show. So I am maturing somewhat and realize this is for the long haul. I am back OP today and doing great.
Setina - glad to see you posting again since you got us started in the first place. Love the watermelon. Congrats on that big loss, must have felt great :spin:
Lauren - I just like to saute a lot of veggies in 1 tsp of peaut oil. I use a nonstick pan of course so that teaspoon goes farther. I do zucchini, eggplant, red pepper, mushrooms, and scallions. Then I top it with Teriyaki sauce. It's about a point or 2 for a lot of food. I think eating it hot really helps. Dr. Ornish has some good cookbooks out as well for more low point ideas. As far as TOM eating for me, it helps if I know that's what is causing the cravings. It's when I don't put the two together that I have problems because I have no idea why I am craving the food. If it's TOM I know it will pass and it doesn't affect me as much.

Hi Everyone,
I haven't posted in a while because I thought the site was down. I have it bookmarked and it kept telling me that it was still down. But, today I finally went to the 3FC main page and clicked on the message board and got in to find out that I missed out on alot of stuff. Didn't even look to see if there was a thread before this one. Anyway, let me catch up.
When I was last posting I decided I needed a change and that change was going to be to weigh in on Mondays instead of Fridays. Well Friday came and went and I didn't weigh in (but I felt like I lost weight) and then the weekend went by and weighed in on Monday and lost 2 lbs. I was upset because I know that I had lost more than that. Anyway, I proceeded to stay off program through the next Sunday. I got back OP on Monday and lost 4 more lbs by Friday of that week (back to my old day). And I even managed to somewhat stay OP over the weekend thanks to my new toy. I downloaded the WW planner for my Palm Pilot and it has been great. I'm always on that thing anyway so now I can input stuff right away and it calculates the banked points and excercise points. It also has simplified things for me. I was getting too caught up with calories, fat, fiber, carbs, sodium, % of fat calories, etc. But, now I'm just calculating points (after all that is the beauty of the points system - easy to follow and simple) Hoping for a loss on Friday.
One more thing, even though I've gained back most of what I lost, I didn't get to my all time high and surpass it this time. I was able to stop myself before I got there. Thinking back to when I got down to my all time low (246.8), it was a really good feeling. I keep thinking of someone saying to me "where's the rest of you?" I want that again!!!!!!!!!! Getting below that 250 mark was an event for me and I guess I wasn't ready for it then, but guess what, I'm ready for it now. I am doing this without the support of the meetings because I can't spend the money on WW right now, but I will go back when I'm ready. Maybe when I get back to where I was or when I get closer to goal. BTW, another incentive - High Blood Pressure. It used to show up occasionally when donating blood or when visiting the MD. But now its been more consistent and higher than usual. High enough to be rejected at the blood drive. Well I went to medical after losing the 4 lbs on Friday and it was down to 130/100 which is high still, but lower than it was. My goal is to have the bottom number at 90 or below - thats the max for giving blood - by Friday, the date of my blood donation.
Hope you all have a great evening!

Max - welcome back. I did that same thing the last time they switched servers, so this time I just got rid of my bookmarks while they were still switching. I think the best thing is that you came back!! I am still amazed at everyone that does, because I am a very weak person and know that if I quit I would never return. That is why this is my third different attempt at losing the weight. I refuse to quit although I am frustrated with my plateaus. Here in NH you can buy passes 3 times a year. You buy one the beginning of Jan that goes through the end of April, one in early May that goes to the end of August, and then the last in Sept to the end of the year. They usually cost $99 (about $5-6 a week). The original outlay is tough, but it keeps me going to the meetings because they are prepaid. Don't know if all states offer this or not. Glad to see you back and keep posting. We can be your "support" meetings.
Well, I was down 1.2 tonight. Glad to finally see a loss. I have been faithful on the exercise and was pretty good on the journaling last week. Would have liked a bigger loss, but I'll take it!!

Max - glad to see you back buddy. I think I know what you mean about the mindset. Every time I have gone on the program it was with the vague thought of getting to goal, but I don't think I ever truly believed I would get there - or truly wanted to get there. Now I do feel it and with passion. I AM going to reach goal this time, something I have never done on Weight Watchers. I feel a new commitment level, something I've not experienced before. See you at the Lifetimer meetings :D.
SJR, congrats on the loss gal. It is nice when the hard work finally pays off, gives us the incentive to continue.
I did a mid-week weigh-in today on my home scale and it was at 268.75. I haven't seen the 260s on my scale in quite some time. Can't wait till Monday, though I doubt they'll let me weigh naked :o.

Sheri, you're almost back into virgin fat territory! :) (Below your lowest weight on WW.) Way to go!
Max, good for you stopping that gain before it gets to your all-time high. That's hard to do. Stick with it. About the blood pressure -- I've been amazed at how much my body has changed, even though I'm still considered obese at 216 pounds. Just with losing those 58 pounds, my heart rate is now at about 60 beats per minute (down from 85), and I can easily do a fairly demanding 45-minute aerobic workout. What a change from someone who had trouble climbing the stairs!
Keep at it; it's worth it.

Sheri - Thanks for the info on the passes; I'll have to check it out. Congrats on the 1.2 loss and 84.2 in total. Wow another 15.8 and you'll hit the century mark.

I also miss not touching the 2 people on either side of me when sitting in the middle of a 3 seater on the train. I would like to hop on the stationary bike and I did for several days a couple of weeks ago, but my knee is acting up on me. Good Morning Everyone,
Was able to donate blood this morning even though my BP was still high at 130/96. I thought that the max for the bottom number was 90, but I guess they let me slide this time. I will go to medical in two weeks and see what 2 more weeks of staying OP will do to the BP. After donating I weighed in and was happy to lose 9.5 lbs for the week. I'm no fool, I know that a pint of blood weighs about a pound, so I cheated a little this time.
Cynthia - Great pix of nature and the seats at the all-star game must have been great. I like the little glimpse that you got of Theo Fleury. That's exactly what he'll probably in Ranger history, a little glimpse. These high scorers that they keep getting never work out, except for Mess and he just wasn't a high scorer, he was a complete hockey player. Haven't watched too much of them this year, but I did get to see Mario when the Penguins were in town earlier this month. Good luck staying OP this weekend, I know I will have a challenge ahead of me as my mother is visiting. But maybe because of my high BP she won't be as bad as usal with pushing food. Looking forward to tonight though as she is making homemade pizza. Saving alot of points for it and thankfully its Friday so she won't be making any with pepporoni, so I'll just have the veggie and cheese pizzas. Did you catch the 10:00 pm show on ABC last night, don't know which news magazine show it was, but they had some interesting finds on foods in food courts. Two things that I remember were that one Mrs. Fields's cookie has as much saturated fat as a steak and one of those large sandwiches at Schlotzky's (sp?) was the equivalent of I think 3 Quarter pounders with some added salt. What I got a kick out of was, they told us what some of the bad choices were, but then at the end they said if you want to see some of the good choices visit our website, WHY CAN'T THEY JUST TELL US, like WE don't know.
Anyway let me go, and I hope we get some more visitors here.
