Woo Hoo. Week one done! Great job everyone

Going into week 2 try and reflect on what went well last week... and what you could improve on to make this week even better.

I feel like my food choices last week were good now I need to focus on exercise. I am a list person and LOVE checking things off. So I made a list of what exercise I need to complete each day and since it is on a list I feel compelled to do it just so I can scratch it off. The list seems to be working as I have 100% completed my planned workout for the last 2 days and I am seeing results.

What are other peoples plans for making better food choices or squeezing in more exercise? I would love some more ideas/tips

Congratulations to Rated, Novus, Dahlia, Angiemama and everyone else who lost weight this week!

My biggest challenge by far is trying to stay on plan everyday now that I've decided I should only weigh-in once a week. For the first 6 1/2 months of this journey I was a daily weigher and for the most part it worked. However as my weight loss has slowed down and the numbers jumped around a lot more I realized I had to stop weighing in daily as I was way too reliant on that number and it controlled my moods. Now because I weigh in once a week I find that I'm allowing myself to have more treats than I used to because I'm not going to step on the scale for a couple more days.

Changergirl - That is interesting because I was a weekly weigher but I have now switched to daily for that accountability. Maybe you can weigh in twice a week once at the end and once at the mid-point to prevent some of those extra treats.

I used to beat myself up over scale increases but then I read something along the lines of "If you didn't eat an extra 3500 calories yesterday than you didn't gain a pound... RELAX". So if I see an increase on the scale I remember that and attribute it to water retention in muscles, sodium etc.

:cheer2: YAY TEAM RED!!! :cheer2:

And congrats to Rated! :cp:

I did well staying OP with food last week. I did my usual weekend meal planning and shopping which helps enormously. And I did well with exercise despite a few obstacles with weather (it's suddenly crazy cold and rainy here :( ) and my running buddies backing out at the last minute. I actually prefer to run alone, but when I plan to run with someone else and they cancel it's like my brain sees that as an excuse to take the day off. :dizzy:

I can't quite explain what keeps me motivated to continue to pursue this wellness journey. Honestly, it's just become my new normal. I don't want to eat crap and be lazy anymore. I crave healthy foods and I look forward to my runs. I kinna feel like I'm surrounded by a bubble of grace and I am very very very grateful for that.

Well, hope everyone has a happy and healthy Memorial Day. And....GO TEAM!...for Week 2. :D

Great job Red Team!!! We rocked it!

I'm back from camping. I actually came back a day earlier with my step daughter. Long story, but ultimately I was done and I decided that rather than be miserable (and make everyone else around me miserable) for the last 2 days of my vacation, I was going home to rest. It felt great.

This week is going to be tough heading back to work, but I am going to plan out my meals and hit the grocery store here shortly.

Hope you are all enjoying your Memorial Day! Here's to another shrinking week!

Everyone sounds so cheerful, it makes you feel good just to be up and enjoying the day. Congratulations to all the big losers, what a great start to our challenge.

Rated, I may follow you lead on adding my workouts to my to do list. I too like to set goals on a list and check them off. Didn't think about applying it to my workouts.

Novus, I can so relate on working out alone. I have found the buddy plan doesn't typically work for me. I have found more often then not that something will come up where my buddy will have a conflict and not be able to meet me for our walk or workout and that will make me feel like taking the day off too. I do much better even I am in my own grove. Something that does help me if I start feeling lazy is to watch a workout video. Watching a stupid video will make me want to get up and workout too.

Rated, I weigh daily and write it on a calendar. My weight goes up and down everyday so i dont stressout what the scale says each day but I kind of track it to document the trendline. It keeps me accountable daily but if I feel discouraged I look back to last month or the beginning of the year to see how I am trending and I feel better about my progress. This really helped me when I hit my plateau. I got discouraged but when I leafed back to see how I was doing over the whole year then I was still doing well so I just kept plugging along.

The interesting thing about the plateau I hit ... I had never experienced one before ... I stopped losing weight but I noticed changes in my body. When I first started losing my rings got large for me, during the plateau my fingers filled back in and my rings fit again. I did not gain weight so I knew my body was adjusting to the loss it had experienced. It was interesting to watch and it lasted for over a month and now that I broke through it I am actually eating more and losing again. I didn't like working so hard and not losing anything but right now I feel so empowered because I saw it through.

Lol you should have just seen my pug, she came off the foot stool and rocketed to my lap. Pugs DON'T rocket anyplace so it was a shock to have her tilting on my iPad. DH walked into the room as sh was in midair and was wondering what got into her.

Have a nice holiday everyone in the USA.

Great job Rated, Novus, Dahlia, and Angiemama!

I'm struggling with diet fatigue. After over 2 years of work, and 9 months of not losing, I have a hard time saying no to that second handful of nuts. Plus I'm still working my way off Medifast, and trying to figure out how to eat all real food again. I'm using Atkins and Quest bars as a crutch for now.

I'm doing pretty good on exercise, though. I'm trying to be happy with my exercise successes while the scale and tape measure are forsaking me.

Have a great week, team!

I completely agree with this. I'm a daily weigher too, but I understand that a gain isn't the end of the world. Since it's everyday, there are ups and downs that usually don't amount to anything. I weigh in daily to keep myself in check. If I do see a gain and then a gain the next day or a higher than normal number I know to drink more water or eat less salt or snack less at night.
I see those little gains as little warning lights, not the be all/end all or what I truly weigh.

And I usually don't count a loss until I see it twice in a row to keep myself honest in that respect as well.

I'm so excited I made the honorable mention list! What an exciting feeling:) Now to do that at least a few more times this challenge!

Congrats to all the losers and GO TEAM RED!:D

EofAZ - The to do list really works especially now that I have been 100% for 3 days I don't want to mess up my streak...even more motivation.

Novus - I can't wait till being healthy becomes my new normal. I know what you mean by having to be careful not to let someone else's excuses become your excuses. Good job pushing through though.

I had my first day back at work today after a week of holiday (and sleeping in) so I figured since I am going to be tired anyways I might as well wake up at 6:00 and squeeze in a workout. I wanted to do the 30Day Shred but my computer was acting up so I did 30 mins on the spin bike instead. I am down 1 lbs so far this week (I weigh in on Thursdays) but I feel like my weight loss has slowed. Hope everyone else is on plan so far this week.

Congrats to all our losers!

I was hoping to be able to start my exercise back up this week, but despite having a full 3 day weekend, I didn't finish the remodel I was working on, so I'll be busy with that every evening this week. :( But I HAVE to have it finished by the first for the new tenant, so by the end of this week I should again have free time. So I'll just have to continue to focus on my diet this week.

This week has started off well for me. I've been a healthy eater for about six months- cut out chips, soda, etc- things that have no real nutritional value. It's been going really well. We still have occasional treats in our house- an ice cream cone from Dairy Queen or a couple of rasinettes. These things are treats now instead of the norm- once a week instead of once a day.
I can really see a difference in my energy and weight loss now too. And I'm putting on more muscle with my workouts too.

How are you all doing your eating plans? Eating clean or dieting or lifestyle changes?

SuperHeroTeacher

My week started out well too - down 1.8 pounds from yesterday, despite my weekend vodka tonic indulgences.

I'm on Medifast so my meal plan is simple - 5 Medifast "meals" and 1 lean & green meal (sometimes I split it into 2 small meals). I worry about what I'll do when I transition to maintenance, but that's several months away, so I'm just trying to focus on following this plan every day.

Exercise continues to be a challenge for me. I think this week I will simply focus on abdominal and core work on the balance ball.

Hi Gang-
Home with a sick kid (just a fever) but thought I would have had a chance to get on here sooner. Where did they day go?

My eating is pretty OP most of the time as I'm going on intuitive eating. Plus I'm a creature of habit eating- keeping breakfast & lunch relatively the same day in/day out. That way I have more flexibility with dinner.

Exercise has traditionally been walking the dog with running (on occasion).
It's much more regular now that I am following an 8 w training plan for a half-marathon at the end of June. I am 4 weeks into the program and so far so good. I'm just doing the prescribed runs 3 times per week and I'm using walking as my cross-training. I haven't exercised this regularly since I started the Couch 2 5k, back in 2009.

Food wise, my week has started off really well. I've been under my calories every day and making pretty smart choices overall. I am having trouble lately drinking more water. It's strange, I work at 2 different schools and at the one I have no problem getting in 2-3 bottles of water a day but at the other one there are days I hardly finish 1.

Exercise is something else as I've been slacking all this week. I'm doing C25K program and have 4 runs left to do, though I'll probably do each twice as I've been having difficulty lately. Monday, it was pouring rain so I didn't want to go out and yesterday it was still wet and I got into a super minor car accident which had my emotions thrown all over the place. As I told my fiance, I was emotionally drained from the day and went to bed almost immediately after dinner. It looks like it's raining or about to start raining again now so I'm debating running again. My plan is to join the gym June 1st so in the back of my mind I'm telling myself just take a rest week as I'll be going to the gym at least 5 days a week, gotta get my moneys worth!

Doing well this week.
My baby is sick too Mel- We had PINK EYE- awesome.... seriously- I think I washed my hand raw over the last weekend. We have drops from the dr that worked super fast so things are back to normal now.
changergirl That's a good way to look at it- getting your money's worth:) I always like to divide my monthly dues by day and say- well today you better go or you wasted $5 :)

Lost another pound which feels great. I hadn't lost since last week so I was starting to get a little down. I want to get as close to 172 as possible by Friday :) 174 is pretty darn close!

Hi everyone and congrats to Rated, Novus, Dahlia, Angiemama! We're off to a good start. It's been a year since I first started with Red Team, and I can say Red Team and the biggest loser challenges have seen me through "thick" and "thin."

I'm done with sore throat and congestion right now, so not going to gym, but hoping to feel better and get back soon.

Everyone hang in there and remember to drink your water.

Changergirl - Go run in the rain! It's not as bad as it sounds, and it totally makes you feel hardcore!

I am NOT enjoying the heat and humidity. Yuck! I guess we've reached the part of the year where I get up at 5 AM to run. :( Side note, I'm only 8 weeks away from my 1 year runiversary! I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it! I have a bad habit of quitting things before I have the chance to fail.

Nikel1979- That is absolutely amazing that you are so close to 1 year!! And you are right about running in the rain, I've done it before and it does feel awesome, I probably should have sucked it up.

angiemama- that's a great suggestion about breaking your gym days into $ amounts/day. I think I'll be paying about $60/month minimum (gym memberships in this country are ridiculously expensive) so it'll definitely motivate me to know how much money I'm losing if I don't go.

My weigh-ins are Thursday mornings which means that's today here. I'm quite happy with the 171 I saw. I was really hoping to be in the 160s by June 1st but my weigh loss has slowed down so much the last 2 months that I'm ecstatic I'm so close. Hopefully next week I'll see it!

I think I've found a way to control my calories better - eat less meat. I tried a new vegan korma recipe tonight - I got a lot of satisfaction for under 350 calories! I added a fat free plain Greek yogurt for protein and only 100 more calories.

As of today my weight is the same as last week. I saw the trainer today, so I'm hoping that doesn't mean a blip up in water weight for weigh in.

Nikel, I have yet to run in the rain. I got caught in a light drizzle once, but not real rain. I'm just not interested if its raining. Maybe someday.

NSV - I took my measurements today, since it's the end of the month. I've lost a little over 30 lbs total now, but at the end of April, I'd only lost 0.5 inch in my hips. It was getting discouraging, and nothing was fitting right anymore. I've always been pretty proportional at every weight, but I had lost several inches in the chest and waist and virtually nothing in the hips. I lost 1.5 inches off my hips in May! :carrot:

That is just wonderful, congratulations Nicole.

Boy this has been a strange week. Only 4 days long and it feels like Friday would never get here. Now that it is here I keep thinking it is Thursday. I would go have a cup of coffee to wake up my brain but I already had my two cups for the day so more isn't going to help me.

Well I have done pretty good with my food plan so far this week but my exercise, as usual, as been spotty. I forgot my fitbit a couple of days so I don't even know how I did those two days. The sad thing is, I realized I forgot the little guy AFTER I worked out and I reached for it to see how many steps I got in. Well I have it on today so I am going to go take a walk so I get it recorded. That way I will know how much I WOULD have recorded if I had bothered to put it on.

Have a good one everybody.

Nikel1979- I'm completely with you on the measurements. Though I've lost my first 4 months of measurements (broken usb), the first couple months, I lost the most around my chest and waist which are less of problem areas than my hips/thighs. However the last 2 months I've seen great progress in those 2 areas which makes me so happy!

Hi gang,
Hope everyone's Saturday has started off well. I'm currently walking the dog after spending nearly 2 hours at a parent meeting for soccer. We have some sun today here after loads of rain the past week.

I'm trying to figure out when to fit my long run in. If I should squeeze it in today or plan for tomorrow when there is less on the agenda.

Eating has been relatively OP, except for this granola that dh bought. 1/2c is 259 calories. Luckily I'm treating it like a dessert, since a lot of the chunks are the size of cookies. But it's an ongoing battle to 'forget' it is in the pantry.

Everyone staying hydrated? Even with all the rain our air still feels dry, and as it gets warmer, above 60F, it's easier to drink just water, rather than resorting to coffee and tea.

Someone, was looking for exercises/quick workout. I tried the 7 min workout once and have to say it had my heart pumping. It is a set of 12 exercises, you do each exercise for 30 seconds and get a 10 second rest between. I need to try it again. I was using this version: 7 min workout (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/09/the-scientific-7-minute-workout/)
What it taught me is that 10 seconds is not a long time-LOL!

Enjoy the rest of your day. I have to work a fundraiser for the kids school tonight. We are raising $ for a new playground. I'm planning on having a drink or two :)

See you all tomorrow

I love how a new challenge is a kickstart for renewed enthusiasm to make this healthy eating/fitness process a lifestyle change! I am finally getting used to the elliptical which I didn't think I could do more than 5 minutes when I first started. Am watching DVDs to help make the time pass, and that surely helps. With summer looming (well, it's actually fully arrived here), I have more immediate desire to get into some shorts before summer is over.

I have only struggled with a little bit of cravings, which will likely get harder, but instead of eating everything in sight when that happens, I plan to have that thing that I want in a small portion, enjoy it thoroughly and then move on.

Here's to a great week everyone!

Hey everyone! I apologize for my lack of participation over the past couple weeks! Busy does not even begin to describe my life right now! I'm a paraeducator/teacher/yearbook advisor/full time student which coupled with the holiday weekend last weekend led to me completely forgetting to log my weight! Yearbooks were released, three papers were due in my classes, plus work, argh! School is wrapping up with just over a week left with kids and then only a couple days of cleaning and packing up supplies for the summer. I'm excited to have a break from students, but will be working full time on my parents berry farm as well as taking at least three college course throughout the summer. However, I just saw a pic of a high school friend of mine that has really pushed me back in the game! She took on her weight loss challenge last summer and looks AMAZING! Plus her whole outlook on life has changed and I WANT that for me!!!
Ok, I need to crash as I still have two papers I need to write tomorrow plus I agreed to take my guy-friends daughter bra shopping as well... He also wants us to find non-short shorts for her... Any ideas? She's a size 6, 13 years-old, and I have a feeling will not be thrilled about this... Not to mention the fact that the majority of shorts out there now for casual wear are REALLY SHORT! Ugh, should be entertaining.
I promise to do personals when things calm down around here!

!

I bought some cute (and cheap) shorts for my daughter at Old Navy earlier this spring. They had 3", 5", and 7" inseam options. The 5" are a nice mid-length. Not too short, but not Bermuda length either. They had lots of solid color choices as well as some fun prints. Good luck! Shopping with teens is my own personal he!!.

The scale didn't budge for me this week. :( But it didn't go up either, so I'll take it. The end of May is always hard. There's all the kids end of the year things - picnics, birthday parties etc. There's 3 birthdays in DH's family. Plus I haven't been running (back at it this week though, woo-hoo!), and that's A LOT of calories right there, about 3000 for the week with what my mileage should have been.

Hey Teamies!

Camping plus TOM absolutely killed me this week. It was the camping trip from Hades. I'm done tent camping FOREVER.

Nickel - I wish I could claim the same of "no gain". I'm up 4 lbs.

Superhero - 8lbs - great job!

Elizabeth - I hate when you get rolling on a post and it gets thrown into the abyss. I can't tell you how many times over the years I have involuntarily shouted obscenities because of this. We understand! Glad you posted though!

For all of you runners, I need your mojo. I just can't make myself want to do it. I know that I need to ditch about 20 lbs before I can really attempt it. My plantar fasciitis doesn't ever seem to leave until I'm under 200lbs. Any good tips on getting myself in the groove?

Hope you are all enjoying your Sunday. I'm gonna take some time to reassess some non weight related goals this afternoon. Looking forward to some me time.

SuperHeroTeacher - I don't think in my entire life I have ver had that big a loss. Good job!

Rated - only and lost are two words that should not be allowed in the same sentence. .8 is a very good pace. The last 20 lbs I have lost about 1/2 lbs at a time but I keep doing it week after week. Those partial pounds add up so keep up the good work.

Need to run, I will need to conclude personals after the grand kids leave.
