Weight Loss Support - Two things I would have once punched you for if you said I would ever buy/do them...

My Nike+ watch arrived today to track my distance running when I finally hit the road and get off the treadmill.

Four months ago, I would have said, "no I do not run, I take a taxi instead!"

And some bluetooth headphones also arrived. I used to think that bluetooth headphones were for @rseholes. But then, I broke my headphone jack while working out, so I kinda get the reason while wireless headphones are good for runners and the gym now.

Anyway, all very geeky but weird since it was not so long ago that I would have laughed at the mere suggestion that I would be buying this stuff.

Are you doing any things you once thought you'd never do?

When I started running, I started with the goal of running a specific half marathon. I said I'd never do a full marathon. Now I'm getting ready to start marathon training... When I registered for the marathon, I swore I'd never do a triathlon. Now I'm swimming several days per week as well as running, and I have a tri picked out for next year. (Gotta wait until the 2014 date is released, to make sure it's not the weekend I'll be graduating.)

For me right now (I still have 100+ to lose) Its spending GOOD money on a pair of very good walking shoes and not just the R**bok's on sale.... My HEEL feels much better and I would have never spent the money on shoes before.. Small thing but needed.

For Mother's Day, my fiance took me to fitted for and buy new running shoes. Up until that point, my swankiest pair cost about $30. :) I am all about practicality, saving a dime, and renouncing materialism...so I would have laughed in the face of anyone suggesting I would one day own a pair of shoes that cost more than $100. I will freely admit that they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn...but I still cringe at the cost!

I used to think Bluetooth heatsets looked stupid too, but now I'm considering getting one. I do have a question. Do these help when you have trouble hearing the phone ring? This is why I need it. We go to casinos a lot and it's so noisy I can't hear the phone ring and I don't always have a pocket to put it in so I can feel it vibrate.

Another thing I''m doing that I never thought I'd do before is being fat. Why did I let this happen?

I used to be one of those people who pooh-pooed fitness clubs, like Woody Allen in Hannah and her Sisters: "Look at all these people, just trying to stave off the inevitable." Now I go several times a week. I guess I've become one of those people.

Hi Ian. Welcome back to the states. Did your luggage catch up with you?

List all the times I've had to eat my words? Not enough space here although the words are low cal! :dizzy: Here's 5 I can think of off the top of my head.

1) Pay to go to the gym and actually use the membership. And even kind of enjoy it.
2) Buy a sports bra.
3) Buy shoes that are actually made for exercising.
4) Buy a food scale and use it for something other than weighing letters to see if extra postage is needed.
5) Do the garden tilling myself because now I'm strong enough to handle the tiller.

Mine vibrates. It is an LG one that you wear around your neck.

Thanks, and no. It is still "at an airport"!

Great fun question, Ian! Never thought I'd own a heart rate monitor but now love mine :)

Sad to say (maybe not ;)) that my running shoes may be the most expensive shoes I own. Mine cost over a $100 a pop as well. No guilt here as I work the **** out them!

Me too!

Adding to the list are proper wicking clothes, my subscription to Runner's World, and the increasing amount of $$$ I drop on various races around town.

I never thought the smell of cookies and cakes would naturally turn me away from them instead of drawing me to their location!

Every Friday night I would order delivery food as an end of the week treat. Now the thought doesn't even interest me!

I never, ever thought I would run a 5k willingly. I never thought I would be so excited to go to a running store to get fitted and buy new running shoes- and be okay spending a lot for something that will work waaay better.

I want to run. I haven't gotten to the point of being able to yet but I really really want too!! I can't wait till I can. I miss walking on the days that I cant for whatever reason!

I started "running" at 5'9" 325 pounds. At the time, my walk was a 3.0 mph and my run was 4.0 mph. I would run for 5 seconds, then walk for 5 minutes, repeat.

Now I am 190 pounds and on a good day, can run 6.0mph for 30 minutes straight, and can run 5.75 miles in 1 hour!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Jogging.

I just woke up one day and decided to give it a shot after I became bored with Jillian Michaels DVD's for 9 months. Never in my life did I imagine...not to mention I smoked for a looooong time.

I never thought I'd be the kind of person who got joy from fitness.

Then I picked up a hula hoop.

And now, for whatever reason, I really desperately want to become the kind of person who runs three times a week for 30+ minutes. WHY?

Maybe because running sounds freeing. It's the bane of every fat child's existence and once you reach adulthood you can pretty much avoid it at all costs, but about a year ago I really got this bug in my head that said running looked fun, and passionate and exciting and cool.

So I've been walking 4-5 times every week for 1 mile, worked it up from 2.5 mph to 3 mph and after another couple weeks I'm going to start running for a few seconds every few minutes until I'm just doing it, couch to 5k style.

:)

I also never thought I'd be so motivated to save money for running shoes. Of course I want those Vibrams.

I had assumed that I would not do that again. Ever. Ever being a very long time. Too long, as it turned out.

What great inspiration all of you are. I have always said I could never be a runner cause I have bad knees. I need to start trying again. I just bought a new awesome pair of Mizuno running shoe.

Way to go on quitting smoking. I heard it is one of the hardest things ever. Your lungs are thanking you for it.
