I have a long to-do list today so my mind immediately thinks . . . what should I nibble on? When I grow up, I'm gonna be a neuro-surgeon and discover how to reroute some of our trillion neurons to work in a more useful manner.

It was back to wearing a jacket to put out the trash this morning. Down here we blame Canada for cold weather in May in the spirit of the Southpark (Canadian written) song Blame Canada.

Bill Yes the cold weather is all our fault. We have a FROST warning in effect here today. I'm glad I didn't wash my parka and I'm taking my gloves out yet again. I guess this year we transition right from parka to tank tops.

I think I finally have a handle on this maintenance thing. Six years in the making - - but I'm finally at a point where constant vigilance is no longer required. I haven't weighed or measured or counted in 3 weeks and my weight is exactly the same.

Good week all!

And we're expecting the hottest day of the year here! The worst part is that the Tour de California rolls into town this afternoon. Over 120 miles up mountainous roads and then down into our valley. They'll cruise our surface streets from Palm Desert to Palm Springs with the final 3.8 miles straight uphill to the bottom of the Tram. I don't know if any of you remember, but about 22 years ago (when Sonny Bono was mayor of Palm Springs) a bus carrying Girl Scouts crashed coming down that road. Many were injured and killed. Very sad. But that is a brutal road. I really feel bad for those racers.

Mother's Day was great here. The kids got me cards and my golf game was one of the better ones (at least lately). I'm still not consistent, but I am figuring it all out. Despite poor reviews, we went to see The Great Gatsby and I was pleasantly surprised. They kept to the story quite well and I was sufficiently entertained. We went to a steak house for dinner and that was quite good. I ordered the filet medallions (3 oz) with shrimp (2 grilled) over a small amount of mashed potatoes (really only enough to hold all that in place). Shrimp cocktail and a salad as well. Most of us ordered the same except FIL who ordered the calimari which I don't normally like but these were amazing (I'm glad he shared). DS had French onion soup instead of appetizer and salad and then had a larger filet filled with Gorgonzola and bacon. It looked quite good.

Would appreciate some prayers/good thoughts for my dad this week. I just found out from my grandma last night that he's been in the hospital since MONDAY (he wouldn't let her call me). He let an infected tailbone cyst go too long, and it got loose in his system, causing atrial fibrillation and now pneumonia. It sounds like the antibiotics are beginning to kick in - but bugs get stronger faster than the drugs do. Family ... Heading out to the hospital shortly.

Prayers for you and your dad Becky! That sounds painful but hopefully he's on the mend now.

I just read the posts I missed while attending dd's graduation. When you're gone a few days, you miss a lot. Here's hoping for positive news for Dagmar today!!

And glad Shannon and others braved the scales.

My problem (if I can narrow it to one) is that I get on the scales no matter what. I shouldn't have weighed today. I knew I shouldn't get on the scale. I thought it wouldn't be as bad as it was. I'm hoping the number wakes me up though. Praying there's a lot of sodium in that number from the weekend, but I've used that excuse to death. The number was higher than I've seen in years.

Dd's graduation was great. So proud of her. She walked with her service dog and he made all the difference in the world for her. Last year (when she got her undergrad degree) she didn't have him and she really struggled. We celebrated that night and had mother's day brunch yesterday. Then, I flew home (solo-- dh is staying with her for a couple of days to accompany her to the specialist in Seattle)-- and younger dd wanted to take me out for dinner. So..... I ate too much.... exercised too little.... and am paying the price.

Going to try to put my nose to the grindstone and not beat myself up.

And I definitely have a cold which isn't helping matters any....

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!!

Becky, wishing your dad a quick recovery. He sounds stubborn - hopefully that will also apply to his immune system.

I saw 124.6 and then I saw 125.0 this morning. I woke up feeling GRUMPY and had a bit of a tough time yesterday with my dad's anxiety almost ruining Mother's Day dinner. I am choosing to believe the first of the two numbers. My roommate is going through the rough period after a breakup and hasn't heard an official word from the new job she is supposedly going to get - not taking on others' stress as my own has never been a strong point of mine.

It's been chilly here too, although at least it is sunny. The NICU put together mother's day presents from each of the babies -- flower pots painted with little flowers where they used the baby's toe prints to make petals, with their names painted on the flower pot and photos. They were really cute, even though Cecilia looks angry in her photo. Both girls are continuing to do well. They are two weeks old today! Hard to believe it's been that long already. My weight is continuing to go down -- 168 today -- although I still look pregnant and get asked when I'm due every time I go anywhere. How many weeks does it usually take for your belly to go back to a normal-enough size to not look pregnant anymore?

Becky, I hope your dad gets well soon. Isn't it frustrating when family members don't tell you about people's illnesses? When DH's grandpa went into the hospital nobody thought to tell us about it for over a week, at which point he was already moved to hospice. I completely fail to understand what the purpose is of not telling people things like this.

Michele, congrats to your DD!

Becky~prayers that all goes well with your dad.

Jessica~for a singleton birth usually it takes about 4 weeks to get back to the "unpregnant" look. I don't know if it takes a bit longer for multiples.

Thinking of your Dad, Becky.

My kids start outdoor swim team practice today. They are going to freeze their little tushies off.

I don't know - I had someone ask me when I was due six weeks after my son was born. Maybe it's because I had on a maternity top ...

Becky, I'm sending best wishes too.

I don't get it either really unless the pain is too great to bear and telling someone or talking about it makes it even keener. That is my working hypothesis as the SO's mother returns home today and we expect The phone call in the next few days. Contact is always sketchy but then there was a panicky "cancer" phone call. The SO has visited but he has to ring to get any info at all. And it's far from clear at present if he will go before her death.

I am starting to get all sorts of reno ideas from all sorts of people. Unfortunately they don't realize that I don't have $1 million for renos - if I did I would have bought a house that was already "done".

I did call and get an estimate for the floors - $13K . I'm scaling down the quality of the hardwood a bit and hoping to get back to the more reasonable $8K I budgeted.

We consulted with DH's boss (a renovator and contractor) and she gave us a very doable solution to the hinky basement steps. All I have to do is tear out all the existing partition walls, replace the furnace and ductwork, repour the basement floor, and then execute this in place of the existing stairs.

Ummm . . . I'll get back to you on that.

Another parka day . I'm rebelling in a small way against the weather by not wearing gloves. I think I will take shorts and t shirts along to the dogsit, with my fleece, corduroy pants and turtlenecks. Lots to put in the suitcase.

I am leaving the winter boots in the closet. If there is snow then I will brave it in my hiking shoes.
