Hi, my name is Amy and I am a overeater.

I have been for years, which has left me being at the weight I currently am and I feel somewhat doomed. :( I see on here that so many people have overcome their weight problem and dropped the pounds but when I try it always ends in failure. I am good a for a few days, eating large quantities of broccoli and grilled chicken lol, but good and then I fall down and allow myself to eat eat and eat. How is it that learning portion control and healthy eating can be so difficult of a challenge? I've conquered so many things in my life, I don't want food to be the one that kills me.

That was my problem...I didn't just overeat...I binged...hard core. I just came to the realization that I was slowly killing myself. I ran out of breath walking from the car to work, my weight literally woke me up at night, and I couldn't carry a load of laundry upstairs without having to stop and catch my breath. I think admitting that you overeat is the first step, and being willing to do something about it is the second. I don't know what the best plan to suit your lifestyle would be but I've just been counting calories and exercising my butt off - literally. I bought a food scale and measuring cups and keep pretty careful track of what goes into my mouth.

Welcome...and I wish you the very best of luck in your journey - there are tons of useful threads on here to get you started. :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Admitting you're powerless is the first step. Check out an OA face-to-face meeting or a phone meeting. You can find it on the Overeaters Anonymous website. I went to one face-to-face meeting, then I read the "How OA Changed My Life" section under "Newcomers" on the OA website. What that person wrote really resonated with me and helped me stay in the program for 3+ months now. I attend meetings once or twice a week and I have a sponsor. I keep thinking that I will stop (like a diet) but strangely, I'm still in the program and I haven't overeaten for over 3 months.... that has not happened to me I think in my entire life.
