Hello all!!! I was wanting to make a challenge and decided that 4th of July would be good since it is about 11 weeks away! I know I need the extra motivation to make it through the summer!

I found a spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ai529T1jrukfdHZ0R3pJR3lHVFdsdG1zVkFYbjFmb 2c#gid=3)and edited it for us to use on this challenge! Please do not touch or edit the last 4 columns (blue/orange/yellow/red) on the right. I will manually update the yellow and red after weight has been inputted. Enter your username, your starting weight and goal weight by the end of the challenge.

Please join in at ANY TIME to receive/give support, accountability and make new friends! Looking forward to meeting you all!!

Oh yea, first weigh-in is on the 25th, next Thursday and will be on Thursdays since the last weigh-in falls right on 4th of July but you can record your weigh-in at any time or use a weight from another day, etc.

I know what you mean emula. It can seem embarrassing when you are stretching, grunting, hoping your pants aren't riding up into nether regions, praying you don't have gas and if you do, it doesn't smell, irrational fear that everyone there is judging you, feeling like a tool for not knowing how to use the machines and REALLY not wanting to ask the employee/trainer on how to use them for fear of being mocked...on and on and on.

For the longest time, I would require someone to come with me to the gym...so I wasn't alone. Heck, to be honest, I still do. I mean, I get red in the face when my husband, who has seen every square inch of me AND has been around during my most embarrassing moments (including vomitting all over him during child birth) catches me working out in the living room. SERIOUSLY?! WHY?

Because of your statement, I HAD to see what the experts say, you know, for sanity's sake and because you are NOT alone. Found a few interesting articles I thought I might share with you:
Article 1 (http://exercise.about.com/od/exerciseforbeginners/a/gymfear.htm)
Article 2 (http://www.naturallyintense.net/blog/fitness/overcoming-the-fear-of-going-to-the-gym/)
Article 3 (http://jezebel.com/5775644/how-to-hit-the-gym-without-fear)

I'll make a deal with you. I will go to the gym...BY MYSELF (GAHHHHHHHHH!)....today....if you will go and see about that membership. It is seriously important to point out that I have never done that. But I'll do it, for you, if you'll go. :)

I would like to join your challenge! Now that I have less to lose my weight loss has slowed. I am also finding it harder to stick with it on the weekends. My husband was working out with me on the weekends and that helped me stick to it but we haven't worked out together in a few weeks. I am going to have to talk to him about it ;)

I am setting my goal at 1lb a week. So I'll set my goal for 162lbs(-10lbs) but an ultimate goal of 12lbs, which would put at 160lbs!

:welcome: to all the new additions! The more the merrier!

alinnell ~ Hey you and me both. The weekends kill me sometimes.

tontus94 ~ I know exactly what you mean. I find that during the busy weeks it is really easy to stay on plan but come the weekend (which is my exercise days off as well) I just lose focus. We need to work on that...eh? Good luck with that little chat with the hubby!

emula ~ :congrat: on the whole gym membership thing. Proud of you! Don't you worry about whats going on around you there. You just focus on you and you will be just fine.

zoesmom ~ Just wondering if you made it to the gym by yourself. If so...:carrot:

natamars ~ You know, its just one of those things. We all have those few weeks where nothing goes as planned. I'm right there with you actually. I have been stalled out for 3 weeks myself. I see the difference but darth scale wont budge. Very frustrating. We will get through it though.

Well as for me, the day has been okay. Kind of feeling blah today. Since this is marathon week for me, I am back to recovery training, so only 3 miles today. I really have been ruined by all the training because now I feel like anything less than 6 is just not a workout anymore. Eh, I'll get over it I suppose. The marathon is Saturday so next week I can start back to regular workouts which will give me a little more consistency and with my weight loss, I definitely need that.

zoesmom

Delphi - I actually did not...but it really wasn't my fault! I had to take my 4 year old to the ER due to mouth trauma caused by her NOT LISTENING to me and insisting on walking around with silverware in her mouth. Needless to say, we all know how this story turned out.

Just got home about 30 minutes ago after 4-1/2 hours in the ER, had to re-make her a seriously late dinner (thanks kid), make lunches, and get ready for bed myself and just really, ran into a lack of time due to mommy responsibilities taking over. If I didn't have to be up at 3 am, I'd go tonight, but I just don't have it in me when I am looking at roughly 6 hours of sleep as is...so...as the old cliche goes, there is always tomorrow.

I intend to make good on my promise...today just wasn't that day. :stress:

Good for you Emula!!!

I haven't been to my gym in over a year. I'm on my 4th week of Medifast now so I could be incorporating exercise into my plan, but I'm really anxious about going back to the gym. I feel like I've failed there so many times, I don't want that failure to taint the success I'm having now. It sounds irrational doesn't it?

I just need to set a day and make myself go. Easier said than done.

Natamars- I believe you can do it! I am there with you, I have been stuck at the same weight for over 3 weeks now. Kinda why I started this challenge to convince me not to give up!

adlea ~ :welcome:

superheroteacher ~ You know failure is subjective. Without failure there is no success. I did the whole gym thing during the winter as I'm somewhat of a baby and can not handle the cold but now I am working out at the local park. That is always another option as well. I like it a little better as I'm also getting a nice tan while I'm out running/walking. There are many options to the gym. Perhaps you could integrate the gym into a workout routine, like once a week at the gym and the rest of the days outside, just to kind of ease into it?

zoesmom ~ Oh gosh, I'm sorry. I sure know where you are coming from. I have 3 boys, 6, 9 and 13....so there is always plenty that goes wrong and plenty that goes right. Never a dull moment though. Hope your little one recovers well. Being in the ER so long is the pits though. Hopefully you can get to the gym today and burn some calories. Is your little one in school?

amandie ~ The 30 day shred? That's Jillian right? Never tried that. I am running the St. Judes Country Music marathon Saturday. This is actually my first half-marathon. I have never taken on anything like this in my life. Its scary! Actually I have been training since January to walk it, but then last month I ran my first mile and have been doing it every since. So I plan to run a mile then walk a mile during the race until I hit 13.1. It has been a wild ride. However, due to training and burning so many calories I have had the hardest time losing weight (if that makes any sense at all). In order to keep up the energy I need I had to increase my calories and I just wasn't getting the deficits I needed to lose weight. I think I have lost only 13 pounds since January 1st. I really am having a tough time even though I'm doing everything right. However, this morning I dropped a few pounds so that was exciting. But I was really wanting to be in the 170s by vacation/fourth of July! Hopefully, with the race Saturday, I can get back to a normal routine and shed some pounds. How is weightwatchers working for you? Been on it long?

Well I'm actually supposed to be working now, so I need to hurry. I can be quite long-winded. In any case, the morning has started out with a good drop in weight, 2 pounds worth. I drank a boat load of water yesterday trying to flush myself out. I read somewhere on the interwebs that when you train for things like these that your body can retain a lot of water to prepare itself for the training. I really do think that is the case. I wear a bodymedia device so to my calculations, I should be somewhere around 193, but like I said, my weightloss just has not made sense this time around and the only thing different for me this time, has been the extensive training schedule I have been on especially the past 2 months with the mileage getting way up there. So starting the day with a smile, and heres to another on-plan day ladies. We can do this...we WILL do this. You guys have an exceptional day!

Emula

@Delphi: whoohoo! Fair play on your loss and best of luck with your marathon! You'll have to tell us about it :)

@Zoesmom: I hope your little one is alright, you must have gotten such a fright!

@SuperHeroTeacher: I know how you feel, I was liturally shaking going into the gym. I'll be behind you 100% whenever you're ready to try again, we can swap gym war stories! :)
And in the spirit of paying it forward, I will make the same promise to you that zoesmom made to me; if you go enquire about joining a gym, I'll go work out at mine on my own! (which terrifies me!)

@Amandie: wow! That is some starting point! :) it really is amazing.

emula - hit the big "B" at the top of the text box...or enter before your text and a closed bracket with a /B inside of it. But I am [B]SUPER stoked you enrolled in a gym!!!!

Thank you EVERYONE for your support for my wee one. I was really ticked and really scared all at the same time when she fell. I had told her no less than 5 times to NOT walk around with a spoon in her mouth and to SIT down at the table in the span of 2 minutes. Half a second later, her dad walks in and up she bolts to the door and...TRIP! I have never seen so much blood (I know, head wounds look worse than they really are, but still!)

She got lucky. It wasn't a fork, it wasn't a plastic spoon, it wasn't a small spoon. It was the large spoon she had insisted on using since she is a "big girl now" and apparently, that means they use tablespoons. I was unaware of this until I was re-educated by my kid. :) Anyways, her insisting on the large spoon is actually what saved her from serious damage. She is sore, she has a hole and some scraping on the roof of her mouth, but she is fine. Probably going to be clingy for a few days, but she is fine. But hey, something good came of this. She went to daycare this morning showing everyone, in detail, what happens when you walk around with spoons in your mouth. :)

She's my pride and joy...but sometimes...oui...just..OUI!

EDIT: I WILL be going to the gym, by myself  today for sure, I need to work it double time after missing out yesterday due to our little trip to the ER

amandie
04-23-2013, 02:11 PM
Go, Zoesmom!!! Work it in the gym today! Glad she is okay and so cute about the daycare tidbit! :)

Emula- Zoesmom is right, just highlight the text you want to be bolded then click on the big B right next to the slanted I on top. Love the "gym war stories"!!

Delphi- WOW! You're just amazing. I hope one day I can do a half marathon... Once I summon all the confidence in myself to do one, that is! Even if you don't get down to 170 by July (I think you will), I would be so proud about the half marathon! It does make sense that your body doesn't want to lose because it is trying to conserve, at least that's what I would think.

I was off and on with WW for a little over 2 years now, it does work if you work it, haha. I restarted late in January and have been losing up until 3 weeks ago. I figured out that my app had a glitch and I was eating 2 points extra daily along with my weeklies (not sure why it didn't change since I was updating my weighs from 180 to 166.) Luckily I figured that out before I started gaining, lol, right now I am patiently waiting for it to drop below 166! I like the 30DS, only 20 minutes of pure h*ll, lol. Once I complete the 30DS, I should be able to get back to my lifting routine with no problems.

I am doubling up today! Didn't get to work out last night so I am doing an hour on the elly trainer this am then another this evening after dart league. I'm still anxious about starting the 30DS but I WILL start this week. I might start out with level 2, I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that someone recommended starting out with level 2 because it was easier than level 1 and that was true for me because level 1 was harder for some reason, lol.

I am in! I am currently 263. By the 4th of July, I 25 pounds is very doable, so that would put me at 238.

amandie~I love your avatar. My DD loves Hedwig and the Angry Inch!

Speaking of my DD (she is not a member here) she let herself go when she started college and the "freshman 15" quickly turned to at least 50 on top of already being slightly overweight. Last year she turned a new leaf, lost about 40 pounds on Nutrisystem and got turned onto the gym and running. She is doing a shred right now and has already lost 7 more pounds and is really close to her goal of about 135. I'm so proud of her!

Done with 30 minutes on the elly trainer, yay! Doing another 30 in a bit then making myself a green protein smoothie to drink afterwards.

Me too, Elvislover! I really thought I was gonna have up to 15-20 takers at the most then have some few join in along the way. I am happy though! I was worried my first challenge was gonna be a bust, I just wish I didn't wait 2 whole days before finally posting it. :D

Likely I will set up another challenge after this one ends... Either for Labor Day or Halloween.

alinnel ~ You must be very proud of your DD. :congrat: to her!

amandie ~ Ha. Well thanks but I really just got coaxed into it by my dad. He is an avid runner and he was all like, "you should do it with me" and I was all like, "are you kidding me"....but hey, we shall see. I hope I get some good pictures from the race. I hope you guys don't mind me sharing. If I survive this, then I will be quite proud. (Its supposed to rain to.) Way to go on getting that workout in. Now who is the amazing one? :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

zoesmom ~ Bless your heart. Kids are resilient aren't they? Glad she is doing well. Goodluck with your workout!

Emula ~ Thank you so much. Good luck with your venture to the gym as well.

Oh and :welcome: to all the new additions as well.

Well today has been a long day for me. Granted my day begins at 3, so all days are long.. In any case, still on plan and did get my strength training in so I'm doing well. If I can just keep the late afternoon munchies away I will be doing great.

So this is officially my favorite thread ever! Y'all are so nice here.

Delphias much fun as working out in the great outdoors sounds, I live in the wrong climate/pollen zone to be outdoors for any length of time until the temps near 100s for about a week straight to kill off all the pollens I'm allergic to :(. The catch-22 is that once it reaches 100, there's no way I want to be outside working out! As of today I'm incorporating some balance ball ab/core work at home in addition to some leg exercises from when I was doing PT for my knee.

Emula - you wanna know what's really sad, I've belonged to a great gym for over 10 years (family membership is a free benefit through DH work) and have probably used it a total of fewer than 200 days - in 10 years!!! I did used to love going to the gym, I really don't understand the anxiety I'm having right now - it has to be the fear of failure.

I did take a small step forward today. I've emailed the director of my gym back and forth a few times today inquiring about an upcoming program -Bodyfit Challenge - that I'm considering enrolling in. Baby steps...

Good Morning!

superheroteacher ~ That is awesome about the challenge! Sounds like that would be fun. I really wasn't thinking about the hot temps. Right now it is rather nice here in Tennessee but soon the temps shoot up and the humidity hits 100% and I really do not know how I will handle that. Sounds like you got a good plan though. Lets us know how that works out.

Well the day is just starting and I have plenty of work to keep me busy until 9 and then its off to the park to do my last 3 miles of training. I can't believe I made it this far. Checked the scale and the 195 wasn't a fluke yesterday as "darth scale" gave me the same reading today! So I'm happy with that. Just need to keep myself busy. The next couple of days will be busy but that is always good thing. If I can keep moving, I'm burning calories, so I'm happy with that. Well, I suppose I should get to work. You ladies and gents have an amazing day.

Emula

SuperHeroTeacher That's wonderful. I know this is very cliche but I really do believe that the first step is the hardest! Sounds like a great programme, too.

Delphi You are officially my hero; I think I'd fall down and never get back up if I was as busy as you! Also, I LOVE "darth scale" by the way, it's hilarious.

Delphi
04-24-2013, 09:21 AM
Yeah, well I have a love/hate relationship with my scale. I swear I just do not get it. I see other people posting steady decreases with no fluctuations and I am all over the place when it comes to the scale. Just craziness I tell ya! Sometimes as much as 5-8 pounds. I know we should not tie are success or failure to the number on the scale but I, as illogical as it sounds, need that validation from the scale. I know its irrational and I know about all the science behind fluctuations and such but at the end of the day, there is a part of my screwed up brain that needs to see progress. Crazy...maybe, maddening...yes.

ALL - once again, thanks for the support for my wee one. I hit the gym, ALONE  yesterday for an hour. It wasn't as bad as I had imagined...but then again, I didn't venture off the treadmill either. Baby steps. All in the baby steps.

SuperHeroTeacher - I hear your pain. As a severe asthamtic living in Georgia with record pollen setting days, I can barely step outside without having attacks. I actually live in fear of the outdoors, especially in the summer, and even more now given last August I dang near lost my life (42 O2 saturation level!) due to a severe attack (plus other ailments.) I ended up in ICU for three-four days and was in the hospital nearly two weeks AND THEN was on an O2 tank until almost November. By the time every thing was said and done, i couldn't even walk up the one flight of stairs to get to my apartment. I had to take five stairs at a time and just work on those five. Every couple of days, I would add another one in. Now, here I am, 8 months after knocking on death's door and I am able to do a brisk walk/jog for an hour. All from baby steps. Those steps matter the most. And a funny thing happened (on the way to the forum), this spring, the pollen has been at its worst since I moved to Georgia and this is the FIRST YEAR I've been able to step outside and actually BREATHE! Amazing what losing a little weight and exercising can do!

You are on the right track...keep it up...you can DO THIS!

Emula - off track agin...you probably have a different browser than amandie. That would be the mostly likely explanation of why your text box looks different. Despite that, the same thing applies on all browsers. :)

Curiosity killed the cat...you get to the gym yesterday?

Delphi - I WANNA DARTH SCALE (a literal one...with the voice proclaiming "Join me on the dark side")!!!!! And three miles of training. I am both envious and glad it is not me all at the same time. You rock it girl!

amandie - I haven't said it yet, but THANK YOU for putting this together. For your first time, you did dern good! I'd never had noticed!

LOL! I have it! I am going to invent a Darth Vader scale (sadly I looked and none exist). It will have the following catch phrases:

When you step on it and weigh less than the previous weight, it will proclaim, "Yes, the Force is strong with this one." When you weigh the same as the previous weight, it will proclaim, "Look inside yourself, you know it to be true." And if you weight more, it will proclaim, "You are unwise to lower your defenses!"

And yes, the pollen has been insane, breaking records for the past two years. (http://onlineathens.com/local-news/2013-04-11/pollen-record-high-levels)

(and for all the phrases, the Imperial March will play softly in the background)

The Thursday weigh-in is perfect for me. I decided to change the path of my life on March 28th; which was Thursday. -- I was just done being slow, fat and gross....as a matter of fact I was done being many other things as well, which I will not disclose here. It was time for me to take care of myself. -- It has been a heck of a month for me. Lots of personal obstacles.... but one thing I am ready to do, become a babe! I owe it to myself. (What kind of a babe a 45 year old woman can become :lol3: ????)

So I am toasting  all of us! Let's all become babes! 18-99!!

Argh, don't get me started on Lucus selling out. Just hope they do not run the franchise into the ground. And kudos for the on-plan day and the support from the kids can be amazing..eh? That is just so sweet. Its also nice to spend time with the kids and burn calories. The boys had me out on the trampoline Sunday and we had a lot of fun and momma burned quite a few calories. Win/win in my book.

:welcome: 2fat2jump, glad to have you join us!

Well I had a weird day. My dad sent me some final eating plans for the next few days leading to the race. Not only are these rest days (no exercise), they apparently should be high calorie days. So it looks like no deficits for me until race day. Oh well, come Monday, it is on like Donkey Kong! You ladies have a great evening. I'm off to bed!

Haha, love the convo today re: "Darth scale" and what it should say whenever you get on with a gain, maintain and loss. Love it!!!

Delphi- I am the same way with my scale, I need the validation too especially having been basically the same weight for over 3 weeks and on top of TOM, just argh!!! I have stopped the daily weighing for now and just sticking to once a week WI days. No deficits means you'll maintain, better than gaining and your body will need it for the marathon!

Zoesmom- Good on you for getting to the gym yesterday and your kiddo is sooo sweet, helping momma be accounable! ;) You really need to get on that Darth Vader scale invention, I will order one from you for sure! ;)

Emula- How did it go at the gym if you were able to make it there?

Sum38- :grouphug:  Here's to babes and hoping it is a better month for you!

For the first time, my knee felt kinda weird last night when I was finishing up the last 10 minutes... Not pain exactly, kinda like really tense, I dunno how to explain it exactly... Luckily it seems to be okay today. I will keep an eye on it while on the elliptical because I would hate to hurt myself and not be able to exercise for a long time like last year. Well, I guess the one good thing I can say about my climate is that the humidity is super low (that and it doesn't snow). I've been to Tennessee in July, I was miserable (but allergy free :dizzy:), I felt like I was swimming in my own sweat at all times!

I'll keep you posted about the body fit challenge - I still haven't made a decision. I feel like my brain cells are leaving with my fat cells - I can't seem to make decisions about anything these days. :?:

So I had a good weigh in for today. Yay. I am worried about next week though because I fell and my ankle/foot is killing me. It has been about 4 days and it still hurts. I probably should get an x-ray, but who has time for that? I figured since I didn't have any swelling or bruising it muat be ok. Maybe not. Certain spots are tender to the touch. I really really hope I don't have a stress fracture. I'm hoping to get an x-ray tomorrow after work. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be ok!

I put in my number for the week and nothing changed across the sheet, then I refreshed the page and there were errors. Sorry! There's a much easier way to multiquote. Next to the quote button, there's a little button with a quotation mark and a + sign. Click that on all the posts you want to quote, except the last post. Click the button that says "quote" on last post that you want to quote. The end. :)

I'm a bit frustrated to only be down 0.4 lbs since the start. I know it's still early, but I can't help but wonder if the 15 lb goal I set was a bit too ambitious.

Delphi - amandie has to manually change the the totals at the end. Only thing you need to do is enter your weight. :)I found a spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ai529T1jrukfdHZ0R3pJR3lHVFdsdG1zVkFYbjFmb 2c#gid=3)and edited it for us to use on this challenge! Please do not touch or edit the last 4 columns (blue/orange/yellow/red) on the right. I will manually update the yellow and red after weight has been inputted. Enter your username, your starting weight and goal weight by the end of the challenge.

Kudos IanG and saggzz and wanna and frieden for having a good weigh in. Job well done! Hopefully everyone else can claim the same (i.e. no weight gain!)

amandie and SuperHero - you have no idea how badly I want to make a Darth Scale after seeing Delphi mention her metaphorical one. Oh lord...if only I could come up with a way. My hubby is a geek, but I think that might be outside of his realm. Best he could do is make me a prototype that only says the phrases. But gah!

SuperHero - I am not a southern girl  I just reside here due to a misunderstanding between my real dad and I. He thought I would like living here. I thought he was going to stay here. Nope. He moved us as far away from our relatives as he could than dropped my mom, sister, and I off and headed back west. No worries though. This is where I met my husband and where my mom met my wonderful step-dad, so joke's on my real dad! HAHA! I am actually a Carmichael, CA girl originally. I go back time to time for visits but ultimately, I don't think I would move back. As much as I HATE the humidity here (I will GLADLY take 115 degree weather out west than 73 degree weather here...GAH! HUMIDITY!!!) I really don't want to be parted from my mom, and she's made it clear that this is where she wants to be. So, such is life, humidity and all. Still hate the words "yonder" and "o'der" and still can't stand the taste or smell of deep fried everything, but ultimately, not as bad as I once thought it was. Helps that I now live closer to Atlanta now. When he moved us here, he moved us to Tate City, GA. Look it up. You can find a picture here or there of the "city" sign proclaiming a population +/- 32. I mean, the barn is both City Hall AND the church!

Emula - and AWESOME for getting to the gym! I ended up doing YouTube videos to figure out how most the machines worked in my gym, for the same reason you are still a bit confused on how they all work. It helped, a lot.

wannaskipandlaugh, IanG, saggzz, Sum38, Tibbits2u and all others congrats!! :carrot:

I am sad to say that my scale went UP 1 pound! Of course this is only my third day of being on track, and yesterday was when I weighed in, and today I'm wearing heavy clothing and it was pre-bathroom as apposed to post-bathroom, and I had breakfast and water...and and and...

None of that matters because I know if I just keep working...
I WILL DO THIS!
I CAN DO THIS!
I AM DOING THIS!

I've gone to the gym two days in a row now (this is a big deal for me) and counted my calories for 3 days, woot! woot!

I'm hoping that little rise will result in a woosh next week. Kick booty this weekend everybody! Today is my Friday so I'm psyched! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Emula- Your post was not negative at all!! I'm sorry that they weren't that helpful. Maybe it was just first time jitters? I hope the next time will have better staff with better assistance! I am soooo proud of you for going! Thanks- my knee seems to be okay, WHEW! ;) Next week will be better.

Delphi- Zoesmom is right, I have to go in manually to change it for the %. You kinda freaked me out thinking the spreadsheet was messed up, oh noes!! Haha. It's all good. Congrats on the 2lbs down!! :carrot:

Wannaskipandlaugh- Way to go on 1.5 downnn!!!! Glad you like the spreadsheet as much as I do!!! :D

IanG- Nice going on the 1.6! I really think you will make goal at this rate. Good luck at the gym today!

Saggzz- Congrats on your WI! Sorry to hear about your ankle, I am also sorry but I chuckled when you said "who has time for that?" and you inspired me to make a meme (http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/37272931.jpg) out of it... Anyway, I am really :crossed: that it isn't anything serious! :crossed: You can always fall back on an eating deficit for now if you cannot do any activities.

Frieden- Oh thank you!!! I knew there was a way to multi-quote but how?? Thank you for helping SuperHeroTeacher on that!!! As for your WI, .4lbs is great! Better than gaining, IMO. You may have a bigger loss next week, who knows? I also like being more ambitious because it encourages me to try for it as best as I can, ya know what I mean?

Zoesmom- Way to go on the 2.4 down! I did the same thing re: the chant, lol. It really is a worthy NSV, seriously!

Nice going, Jennifer1966!!! Water weight or not, I'd be feeling good too! :)

WolfGirl69- Wowzers! WTG on the 3lbs down!

Sum38- Yay! Great job! 9% of your challenge GW gone!

Alinnell- I totally understand, I'm so bad with exercise and excuses. This may be dumb but I convince myself to workout with incentives, like if I do 30 minutes on the elliptical , I can watch my fave show or if there's a special weekend coming up, I tell myself I gotta exercise at least 5 times that week or I'm not going. That usually gets my butt in gear, lol.

Way to go, Tibbits2u!!!

100Mother I love your positive attitude!!! Happy Friday to you! ;)

Katie- What a great loss! Way to goooo!

As for me, I was up .8 this morning. I'm assuming it may still be TOM weight leftover, at least I hope!!! :D I'm not letting it get me down though! I gotta keep going with the workouts and eating right and hope that it just falls off, lol. :crossed:

amandie ~ Thank Goodness. I probably clicked something somewhere. My bad! I was really tired this morning and probably should not have been operating any electronic devices. Isn't TOM the pits? I'm sure you will see that swoosh soon after TOM. Just means an even better weigh-in for you next week.

:woohoo: and :congrat: to all of you guys that saw a loss this check in. You guys are amazing and keep up the good work.

100mother ~ You have an amazing attitude. Awesome job with making it to the gym and staying on plan. I'm sure you will get your swoosh soon. Keep up the exceptional work.

tibbits2u ~ You sound like me. I lose the weight but at a snails pace but hey, we are losing it and that is all that matters.

alinnel ~ I am pretty sure we have all done that at one time or another, and thats probably why many of us are here. Maybe start out with just one workout and stick to it no matter what and perhaps add another the next week then so on and so forth? You are doing a great job. You CAN do this!

zoesmoms ~ You are such a hoot! Thanks for the info. Like I said above to amandie, I was just completely out of it this morning. You know what, you do your little chant. Its a step in the right direction so chant as loud as you can and be dang proud.

frieden ~ Thank you so much for the information. I do not multi-quote that much but I sure will be using that technique when I do. Don't get too discouraged about your goals. Ambition is a great thing. Just remember any loss, is not a gain and that my dear you should be very proud of.

saggzz ~ Sure hope everything is okay with the ankle. I know it is tough and frustrating with an injury. Do let us know how that x-ray comes out. Goodluck!

As for me, I just returned from Nashville with all my stuff. The expo was great. Lots of free goodies to.

Well I got all my stuff and I'm so excited. Gotta get out of here. I get to have a treat tonight. Since I need a high-calorie, carb heavy meal tonight, I thought I would use my cheat meal and we are going to have some Jets Pizza. My mouth is just watering thinking about it. I sure hope you ladies are having a wonderful day.

Well done everyone! Some really great losses this week!! :D I'm loving how positive this thread is.

Delphi That is so cool, I'll be cheering for you! Hope you enjoy your pizza.

Amandie You're so right, I just got myself worked up. I gave myself today to mope and then I'm back to the gym tomorrow. lol
So glad your knee is all okay! :)

Zoesmom Thanks for the suggestion, I'm definitely going to do that. And a big hooray on your extra special loss this week! I'm absolutely delighted for you, must have been all that hard work your little helper did getting you out jogging ;)

amandie and SuperHero - you have no idea how badly I want to make a Darth Scale after seeing Delphi mention her metaphorical one.

I mean, the barn is both City Hall AND the church!

zoesmom - I'm seriously laughing out loud at the barn that is BOTH City Hall and the church! I live literally just across the river from Carmichael in Gold River! We were practically neighbors! I did my student teaching at Coyle Avenue School in Carmichael.

That scale would be so freaking awesome! Think of the marketing potential - not just us compulsive daily weighers, but the whole world of geekdom too! You'd make a billion if you set up a booth at ComiCon :D

Hi guys, yes I went to the gym last night but I don't think I did very well and the staff were just so unhelpful, they were friendly but unless I asked very specific questions they didn't tell me anything. I felt a bit out of place. Thanks for asking though, makes me accountable...heh.
I'm sorry I'm not in a very good mood today; I gained and I feel just... yeah, I'm sure you guys know. I'm sorry for posting so negatively.

Emula - I'm sorry the gym was a let down :(. Kudos to you for going though! And kudos to you for going back, because I know you will (if you haven't already)! :carrot:

And your post is so not negative. We all have bad days, it's life. We're all here to help each other through the good days and the bad.

Delphi - I will be thinking of you running your heart out on Saturday. Kick butt, I know you can do it!!!

Amandie - YOU ROCK! This challenge is awesome, the spreadsheet is awesome, the people here are awesome, and you created it all!:cp:

everyone - congratulations on a great first week to everyone who posted a loss! Hang in there if you didn't have a loss; you know it has to come eventually with all the hard work you're putting in.

I know today is the first WI day, am I too late? I don't want to add my info to the spreadsheet if I am too late.

SW: 221.4
GW: 206.4
That's 15 lbs in 10 weeks, 1.5 lbs a week. I can do this!

Thanks, Wannaskipandlaugh and SuperHeroTeacher! I couldn't do this challenge without you all though!

I am so in! I definitely need this kick in the butt after over-eating this weekend. My boyfriend was over (he lives in England, and I live in Sweden) and for some reason we always go mental with food when we see each other. I guess in that sense it is quite lucky we can't see each other every week, haha. Now I've managed to get a bad cold, which I would normally work out with (anything above the neck is fine and all that), but I've got a fever so nope *sighs*.

But hey, on a more positive note, this is my first post after lurking for 3 weeks or so. AND good job on all of your weight loss this week, I'm impressed!

Good Morning Everyone!

margareta ~ :welcome: aboard. I'm so glad you decided to post and join our little slice of heaven. Now lets burn some calories shall we? Goodluck!

amandie ~ Perhaps by Monday you guys can go back down there. Is there not a window down there you can open to air it out. I don't blame you for not going down and its probably dangerous to go down there for any amount of time due to the fumes. The picture was just of my race gear but I got all kind of goodies. All the sponsors were there giving out all kind of freebies. Oooh, I even got a snazzy pair of bright neon green Geiko shoe strings that I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with. lol! I don't mind sharing here. This is my own personal "Cheers" and its nice to have that place to go to share this journey with like-minded people who can totally appreciate your success and whole-heartedly understand your struggles and frustrations or failures.

Ian ~ Argh...I know how you feel. I'm another one stuck at my desk and I totally agree. I almost think I feel more tired on the days I work and stuck at my PC all day. It is really draining for me.

Thanks emula and superheroteacher for the encouragement. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. You guys are awesome!!

As for me, I am off on Friday so I was able to get some sleep. Good thing to as I do not believe i will be able to sleep too much tonight. We have to get up at 2 anyway to get ready, get to parking, then get on a shuttle to take us to the actual start line and wait for our corral to be released. Race starts at 7, so it shall be a busy, rainy morning even before the race starts and given recent events, security will be heightened and they are asking everyone to treat the race like its the airport and get there early as there will be extra security measures they have implemented.

So now, I think my nerves are starting to get the best of me. My big butt out there with all those real runners and such. I believe 30,000 + runners attending this one. So I'm, scared, nervous and perhaps a little apprehensive. I know I have trained my butt off for this since January but my fat-girl complex loves to beat me down sometimes, so that is where I am at today. Gotta get my head straight before I strap on my running shoes and do this thing.

Well sorry, I'm just rambling. I really hope everyone has an exceptional day and that you kick arse at all you do today and burn boat loads of calories.

SuperHero - You have no idea. Here's Tate City's population sign (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gq1jlinYf0Q/TAKvaMBMP9I/AAAAAAAAE0U/FxiyEr9JsyA/s1600/Tate+City+Population+Sign.jpg).

Here is the barn/church/city hall (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Gq1jlinYf0Q/TAKqLcFHmKI/AAAAAAAAEys/nDiL_VRopN0/s1600/Tate+City+Community+Center.jpg). Oh. And I forgot to mention it is also the community center.

And I forgot about this one. The city mall (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Gq1jlinYf0Q/TAKqMAKqfYI/AAAAAAAAEy8/bc3XicnxEYo/s1600/Tate+City+Mall.jpg). :lol3: They sold burlap sack and mason jars and venison. Dead serious.

Just picture. Moved from Carmichael...to...that. There was some freaky nights with some freaky sounds there in the beginining.

:WELCOME: Nathalie - you are going to LOVE it here....BEST support system out there!

Delphi - I am so envious...and still a bit glad it isn't me. You rock! And you are going to rock that run!!! Kudos to you! :congrat:

Wondering who made it to gym/workout yesterday. Not me. But it was a Thursday...that is the only day of the week my schedule keeps me from doing ANYTHING. Something about work and then volunteer work at my work (I work for a non-profit for disabled individuals so once a week I help out by volunteering after my day is done) and then taking a four year old to ballet class and then trying to find a place for dinner and bedtime leave me really unable to do much of anything else. Funny hour 24 hours seems like a long time until you really have to cram 48 hours into it. I petition more hours in our days. Especially on the weekends.

I wasn't entirely on plan last night. Bummer. I ended up with a falt on my way home (I KNOW, right! I mean, I JUST mentioned how I don't have time for anything on Thursdays and then a flat?! I don't have time for time!) Any ways, kiddo was starving...I was starving...and we lost an hour with me trying to change it out. Why do they put those things on so tight! ARGH! So, she got pizza. I didn't eat pizza...but I discovered that pasta sauce over veggies has a LOT more calories than I originally thought...so, I ate over my allowed budget. Grumble. But today is a new day! And I discovered that an EAS Carb AdvantEDGE shake with Mc'D's black coffee equals a latte with not anywhere of the fat, carbs, sugar, or calories of a regular latte...and it was GOOD! So, today, I am starting off in the right direction!

Happy Friday all! It's going to be great!

1st weigh-in = down .7. Not quite a pound so I've got to step it up a bit. I'm golfing in a charity tournament today which will be a challenge. The golf part is good exercise, but the food and drink will be a challenge. Lunch is provided by Ruth's Christ steak house and several restaurants offer goodies at several tee boxes (one is Buffalo Wild Wings) and then dinner is provided by a local restaurant. Give me the will power to stick to good food choices! Then this weekend I have two mornings with golfing so I'm really hoping for a better outcome next week.

(and you REALLY don't want me in short shorts OR tiny tees even when I hit goal. Not so much because of the folds of loose skin that an elephant would be jealous of that I am sure to have, but because of the blinding white skin that hasn't seen sunlight in 10+ years!)

Whoever fixed the top 10 %-wise for the 1st week page on 4th of July Challenge spreadsheet- I thank you!!!!! Congrats, JustB1027- 25% towards your goal! How wonderful!!! The remainder of the top 10 for the most % is- Saggzz, 2fat2jump, NathalieMargareta, Jennifer1966, SuperHeroTeacher, Changergirl, Delphi, Wolfgirl69 and Zoesmom!! Congratulations, guys for being in the top 10 %-wise this week!

I also congratulate everyone else that is still working at it with losses or not! That is the real battle, not to give up when you're feeling defeated.

:welcome: Nathalie!

Delphi- Wait until Monday to work out? No wayyyy!! Hahaha! The elliptical trainer is down there. The smell is a lot better this am down there and I think I will go ahead and open both windows, I forgot we have small windows down there, thanks for the reminder! :) I will also have 2 fans down there, one towards the steps/door to upstairs and one towards me, I will be only staying there for an hour max to work out then get outta there. Re: your race- I would be such a bundle of nerves too!! 195 and 5'8, I doubt you've got a big butt but I totally understand the fat girl complex, I think a lot of us have that too!! I actually would have called the BF or my bro to come. Now that I think of it, I don't even think I have a jack in my trunk?! Yikes. Pasta sauce over veggies was more calories? WTH? They must have doused the pasta sauce and veggies in oil/butter or something. That EAS shake with black coffee sounds REALLY good!!! I love lattes! :swoon: Glad you didn't let yesterday's fiasco pull you down! Happy Friday to you too, hon!

Alinnell- Congrats on your loss, that was 5% towards your goal! Yikes, I'd be asking for a boatload or two of willpower too! I absolutely love BWW (acid-reflux be damned)! Good luck with the golfing (sounds like fun) and food/drink! You can do it!

Just wondering if there are any of you guys that loathe cooking and/or just do not cook at all. My BIGGEST problem with weight loss is food, mainly because I hate cooking. I could really use some help on this front.

amandie
04-26-2013, 03:11 PM
Aw, Delphi. I personally love to cook but totally loathe the clean-up afterwards, lol. Maybe look for easy one-dish/pot casserole-types? Crockpot meals? The type of meals/recipes where you just throw it all in, stir then bake/cook are my faves.

You can just roast veggies and meat as well as potatoes/starches in the oven. I have done all of the above in one dish to cut back on the clean up a couple of times before with fish and chicken- cut up potatoes and veggies, toss in some herbs/spices and olive oil, put greased baking dish then seasoned/flavored meat on top. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 20 minutes then last 10 without foil.

I love this recipe (http://kitchen-parade-veggieventure.blogspot.com/2006/03/by-request-cooks-illustrateds.html) for easy brown rice- no standing over the stove and stirring, etc and frankly, my rice cooker always scorches the bottom and I end up with some really hard crunchy rice, not cool.

Hope that helps somewhat??

zoesmom
04-26-2013, 05:36 PM
wolfgirl - I agree that amandie is pretty awesome. And kudos for being a top tenner

Delphi - I LOVE cooking, but like amandie, I hate the clean up. But my biggest downfall is baking as I am a cake baker/decorator hobbyist so I ALWAYS have some kind of treat sitting around. I've gotten smart about it though, I only make cakes that I intend to give away now, and if I have a new recipe I want to try, I only make one mini cupcake. Much better than the alternative!

amandie - that would be me who fixed the spreadsheet. I wanted to do more, but wasn't sure if I was stepping on toes so stopped. I am an Excel junkie and love tooling around in various spreadsheets. The tire sucked...but hubby was stuck a good 2 hours away and kiddo was hungry. So, mom's gotta do what a mom has to do. I managed. And yeah...I was over my calorie budget by I guess 200 calories or so. When I got home, I looked up the values and was SHOCKED by it. And then of course, I had to guesstimate how much I had. I likely over guessed, but I would rather do that than under guess. All in all, nothing a little cardio can't fix. And yes. The EAS Latte. The hardest part of counting calories was giving my daily latte up. I am SO glad I have an alternative to that and it doesn't taste like complete poop.

Too touch on a subject from a couple days ago and gyms....

I didn't go to the gym today, but I went jogging around my apartment complex several times. Now, I am quite proud of what I have accomplished. Last August, I dang near died due to severe lung issues, was diagnosed with ARDS, has severe asthma, was an on O2 tank for what felt like forever, and I was only 29. I am determined to not live through that again, because next time, I just might not. Anyways, I've come a long way. Lost a good chunk of weight, have a lot more to go. Went from not being able to walk up my stairs to actively jogging for close to an hour. I mean, it might be a lot, but to me, it is. I hated life 8 months ago. Now, I want ever second to count.

Anyways, one of the reasons I hate going to the gym alone is the fear of public ridicule. But, I made good on a deal and I have done it once this week...plan to go more, but work in progress. I have went a few times with hubby, but only once alone. BUT... I started jogging this week to try and get used to being in public eye by myself.

I went out this afternoon even. I made a few laps around our entire complex, just now getting back. Douche Bag McGee is SITTING on his tailgate every time I pass him. You know the kind...the one that genetics favored in the looks department but apparently forgot about the brains. Anyways, I pass him once and he hollers out, "RUN, FORREST, RUN!" I ignore him. Whatever. Second time, he is still there. Third time he hollers out, "DAMN FATTY! YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT, DO YA?!"

Yeah. He can rot. I mean, seriously. He can rot. Not only can he rot, he do us all a favor and quit breathing.

I hate people sometimes.

(Disclaimer...he did NOT hurt my feelings or my pride. He just ROYALLY pissed me off as there are numerous folks who are overweight/obese that fear exercising because of public ridicule from jerk offs like that guy. I know. I USED to be one of them and still, in a way am.)

Zoesmom- Nah, not stepping on any toes here! I appreciate ANY help I can get! I am not excel-savvy at all, lol! 200 cals over isn't too bad and like you said, just a little bit of cardio will burn that off or eating a little less over the few days (50 cals less over 4 days would do the trick, etc.)

doucebagmcgee (not worthy of caps here at all) can just go and stop breathing. Man, this is one of these times that I'm happy I'm deaf so I don't have to hear any of that crap from others. Although, it does make me wonder if people have yelled out stupid stuff like that to me over the years and I just didn't hear it. I'm glad you didn't let him get to you personally and definitely, it is because of people like him that we (overweight/obese) are afraid to work out in public. Now, I would be veryveryvery surprised if anyone tried that crap in a gym full of other people. I would embarrass the heck out of them very LOUDLY- like "WOW did you just really say that to me?!", etc, lol. You can trust me on that one! You.Are.AWESOME.

I dont cook at all ! I would love too try and learn but i live in a studio apartment that only offers a minifridge, small amount of counter space, 2 electric burners and no oven. so i tend to eat alot of healthy take out and those lean cuisine and smart ones meals. also I suppliment them with fresh veggies and fruit whenever i can .i know everyone says they are bad but i've lost over 150 pounds using them. its not a diet its a lifestyle change and you gotta do what works for you. sadly for me cooking just isnt an option

Just wondering if there are any of you guys that loathe cooking and/or just do not cook at all. My BIGGEST problem with weight loss is food, mainly because I hate cooking. I could really use some help on this front.

I'm another who really loves to cook. Last year, DH and I did Nutrisystem (which I was pretty impressed with the quality of most of the food) so I didn't get to cook which was sort of a drag. I'm loving that I'm cooking again except my dishwasher broke and now I have to do dishes by hand and I HATE that!

Here's an easy, good recipe that you can easily change depending on how many you're serving.

Take 1 boneless chicken breast per person (frozen is fine)
Put it on a lipped pan that you've spritzed with Pam (I cover my pan with aluminum foil for easier clean up)
Place 1-2 T of salsa on top of the chicken
Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes
Remove, put a little cheese (Mexican blend or whatever) on top
Put back in the oven for 5 minutes
Serve!

I survived the golf tournament! I didn't survive the food. I didn't eat it all but I did sample some of the bad stuff. Oh, and all that free beer and booze. Yeah, went a little overboard. We came in at 2 over par so we're pretty happy about that and I was the only one that birdied a putt for our team!

Weight unchanged from yesterday, so not all bad.

Good Morning!

I really need to catch up. First of all thanks to everyone with the helpful advice on the whole cooking situation. I really appreciate all the info and advice. Secondly, :welcome: to our new additions, its great to have you. Thirdly, this post will be long-winded and I do apologize for that in advance.

Well, as you guys know, yesterday was the big day for me. My day started at 2 am and literally ended at 5 pm when I passed out..lol! So, I did in fact complete my first half-marathon. :carrot: There are a few things they do not tell you about these events. One, once we parked (at LP field) we then walked about half a mile to the shuttles that would take us to the start line or so I thought. We get dropped off and basically have to walk another mile and a half to get to the start line. Mind you it is pouring outside and did not stop. Matter of fact as I type this, the day after, its still frackin raining. I digress.

So basically before you even start the race you have already walked about 2 miles. Then when you finish, its another 1/1.2 miles to your vehicle, if you can find it. :dizzy:

I can not express how exciting it is before they start the race especially when we all got into the corrals. There was a moment of silence for the Boston Marathon runners and then an awesome rendition of Sweet Caroline to show our support. 30,000 people singing was an awesome thing to witness. The vibe was just overwhelming.

My perception going into the race was a bit judgmental I suppose but let me tell you, most were not your cookie-cutter figures. Just everyday folks, big, small, young, old. I suppose I just had this idea that only the elite did these things and I suppose I had this fear that my big butt would stand out in a sea of ultra-fit people and that was just not the case, so that fear subsided.

Anyways, it was about 51 degrees and that cold rain was relentless. My shoes felt like bricks they were so full of water. Standing there waiting to be let out of the gate, shivering I thought how the **** am I going to make it out of this? Honestly, even with all the excitement, I was miserable standing there with my teeth clattering...at least momentarily. But once our corral was called up and we are all standing there at the start line and everyone is woo-hooing and yelling, it all just became moot! They sounded the horn and we were off. Amazing!

So fast forward to mile 12. I ran my entire last mile. I can not explain the emotion that was coursing through my entire body when i could see the finish line in the distance. My legs felt like they would buckle underneath me at any moment. I just kept going. My dad grabbed my hand and through an enormous amount of tears, we crossed the finish line. I just broke down. It was one of the most emotional moments in my entire life. That feeling of accomplishment was so powerful, my silly butt just could not stop crying. I'm sure that my race finish pictures will be horrible..lol!

I really felt like I needed to share this with you guys. I have struggled all my life with my weight. It has been such an exacerbating battle emotionally and physically. Today as I sit and reflect on the events of yesterday, I am just amazed. That barrier I created for myself has been broken. I can do it. No amount of reticule or weight will keep me from setting goals that people want to make you believe are unobtainable. Its about believing in yourself regardless of popular opinion. I suppose what I really got out of this whole adventure, is that I believe in me. I believe in my ability to tackle that which seems impossible. I believe that no matter what failures I face that I will persevere. And that ladies and gentlemen was my race day!

So the race has photographers all along the race but those pictures won't be back for a few days. When they are posted I will share a few of those with you guys. I'm sure they will be interesting if not hilarious..lol! But here are a few before the race.

This was me all excited and DRY before the race.

And I started sobbing like a baby! I hope you know what an inspiration you are to so many of us, especially those of us at the beginning of our journey. All of that brought tears to my eyes!!! Congrats on finishing. I've only ever done 5k's and certainly say I didn't run the whole thing (although I tried on my first, I've gotten a bit lazy and therefore aren't running like I should). So inspirational Delphi! I just started working towards running a 5K. I've always wanted to join my siblings when they run together and this time I'm going to do it!

I started my 5k stuff this week and started bootcamp and I think that made me gain a bit of weight 278.8 this week for me.

Awesome, Delphi!

Now, that just made me suck it up and stop belittling myself over an horrible dieting weekend (birthday and communion parties) and stop making excuses!

This week: I will stay OP and work out 5 days a week (3 cardio/2 weights).

BTW: My personal triamph was getting on rollerskates after 18 years (and being twice the weight I was then) and not killing myself. I actually enjoyed it again. What you do for your kids :)

Everyone have a great week!!!

LadyPurl- Yea, sometimes starting out with a new exercise regimen can cause you to retain water for a bit. I wish you luck with your 5k stuff and bootcamp! I bet you will have a better WI this Thursday! :)

Sheramama- I did not have a great weekend diet-wise either. I went to a wedding reception with an open bar and great food. Sounds like a great plan for this week! I can't remember the last time I wore rollerskates or rollerblades! That is definitely an awesome triumph. :) Have a great week too.

Good Morning Ladies and Gents!

First of all, I want you guys to know, you are my inspiration. Never forget that.

Amandie ~ Thank you kindly. Once again, I'll echo what everyone else has said and express my appreciation for starting this thread. This site can work for you and can inspire you but when you find a good group of people to share your daily fears and triumphs with on a more personal level, it can make the experience truly a successful one. I hope that wedding wasn't too much of a struggle. I'm sure you handled it just fine.

zoesmom ~ You know, you are a strong person. You faced that guy with grace and strength. I'm so proud of you for not letting that idiot deter you from what you were doing. That jackoff, will get his I'm sure. Karma is a ...well you know. I'm so proud that I know you and so proud of what you are accomplishing daily. I have faith in your ability to tackle anything. This journey is hard enough just making ourselves believe but you, in the face of all that, still kept going and for that you should be so proud. Congrats on staring it in the face and showing that you are the better person and that at the end of the day you will prevail regardless. You go girl.

sheramama ~ That is awesome. I believe this journey we are taking is full of those moments. Its about stepping out into unfamiliar waters and saying to **** with it and just doing it. I'm very proud of you. Kudos, putting on rollerskates again would probably have scared me a bit to. Bless the kids, they are always making us push our boundaries, but in the end it is a wonderful thing.

Ladypurl ~ That is awesome. I believe you can and will do it. Just remember its not about how long it takes you or by what means you get there, rather its about finishing. You can do this. I noticed that with my training, the scale was never my friend. Your body will retain water constantly in preparation for your training. Do not let it discourage you because you will see the changes on your body regardless of what Darth Scale says. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

alinnell ~ That is so awesome! Congrats on the 5ks. That is something I want to work towards. I did not run the entire thing either. That would be a goal eventually though. Thanks again for your encouragement.

wannaskipandlaugh ~ Thank you so much. He was my rock through it. Making me laugh and just made the whole experience amazing for me.

superheroteacher ~ Now you are making me tear up. My knees are wonky as well. I also have RA and diagnosed with lupus recently. Its a bummer but he has me on Plaqenil and that seems to be helping a bit. Though the more weight that comes off the easier it has been. My knees are the main reason I didn't run more and only run a mile at a time. I ran 3 miles one day and my knees kept me from training for 3 days they hurt so bad. I think it is all about finding a balance. Marathons or half marathons or 5ks...any of them, none of them have to be ran and all of them can be walked. You get just as much satisfaction crossing that finish line regardless of how you get there. There was this tiny little girl behind us in our corral who was walking the entire thing and just was so excited about it. She had just had knee surgery and was very proud of just being there and participating. So its always an option. Its all about the experience. BTW, have you looked into any federal aide to help with the tuition? There are many grants that you don't have to pay back that will help, even if it is just for books etc. Talk to the financial adviser at the school and see if they can dig anything up for you. If not, google is your friend. Try government websites and even in your local state to see if they offer any assistance. Hope you can find something that will help as I know that stress can really affect your journey.

Well, today is Monday and now it is back to the weight loss. I'm still a little sore from the race but not so much that I won't make it to the gym after work. I plan on a 2 hour workout everyday on the weekdays for the next 9 weeks. Then its time for vacation. I really, really, really want to see 185 by the end of May and hopefully 175 by vacation. If i don't get there so be it, but I am going to bust some major butt for the next 9 weeks. I would ask you guys to keep me in check and make me accountable. I would appreciate it. This thread and you guys are what has give me that boost once again to strive above and beyond, so thank you. Thanks for listening, encouraging and for being here. It truly makes all the difference for me. I really want to bring you ladies good news daily, in fact, I even strive for it and that is an exceptional thing. You all are my inspiration!!!! Well, gotta get off here and get ready for work, get my water ready and sit on my rear and listen to babbling doctors for 7 hours. My energy is so high in the mornings then having to sit on my arse for so long just makes me feel blah. But I can't wait to get to the gym and actually excited about actually working out for weight loss. So you guys have an exceptionally groovy day and I will check in with you lovely people later.

I am down nearly 4 pounds from yesterday. The flood gates opened yesterday and my body just released all the water it has been hanging on to for the past 2 weeks. Felt good to see 158.6 on the scale, but I am tired after getting to go to potty all night long. :) -- I hope this will stick, because tomorrow marks an end date to a few challenges, my goal was 159.

sum - AWESOME on the weight loss!
It is awesome both your kids want to be doctors. I know this may not be an option you want to take, but I want to throw it out there regardless. When I went to school, my parents had just filed bankrupcy (I blame my dad) and no one would touch them with a loan. Obviously they didn't have any money, and well, unfortunately, my dad was an owner/operator so his gross income was grossly inflated (they don't consider operating expenses and taxes.) I was on my own. But, being on my own helped get me through. I was able to get a couple of scholarships and I was able to obtain a few grants. I did have to take out a few loans (which by the way, I highly recommend staying AWAY from Sallie Mae at ALL costs!!!!! I'd be happy to explain later if you'd like.) But, my scholarships and grants got me through community college for the first two years, you know, to get the basic required courses out of the way. After that, I transfered to a university. My scholarships and grants covered a little, but that was when I had to take out my loans. But...I had knocked away 2 years at community college AND had saved what would have amounted to $90K had I went straight to the university. Sure, I didn't WANT to go to community college, but sometimes, you have to do what you have to do. Anyways, after all my grants and scholarships and all, the next year and an half at the university only cost me $50K....I crammed as many classes as I could in as short of time as I could and was working full time to boot. I managed to maintain a 3.9 AND get a dual major AND pass the LSATS to move onto law school. I don't know how law school would have went though, although I do know I was accepted with a substantial scholarship that would have put year one at only $18K in loans. I never made it that far however. I got pregnant and decided I'd rather be a mom than an attorney. Funny how life likes to do that to us from time to time. :) My point is, if there is a will, there is a way. I personally have my college debt, but given the circumstances, if I wanted to go to college, I had to do something about it. It sucks, but well, I learned a lesson on how to care for myself I would not have learned otherwise. And I learned Sallie Mae is the spawn of all things evil. I know this has to be stressful for you

ALL - thanks for your support over that...thing...the other day. The more I think about it, the more he pisses me off. I mean, seriously pisses me off. I used to be thin. I used to be athletic. I used to not have to worry about dieting or exercising or any of that. But life has a funny way of messing up a good thing from time to time. All it took was a dietary issue of lacking minerals and vitamins and one really bad car crash to cause me to pack on 140+ pounds. And it has taken me a little over 10 years to come to grips with it and want to do something about it. It could have happen to anyone. I guess what upsets me so much about it is, I didn't have a sour ourlook on obesity. I mean, aside from me, my entire family was obese, so I never really had a reason to call anyone out on it. Despite that, upon gaining the weight, I started hating myself and dug myself into a pit of dispair as I suddenly had to change what I was eating and was forced from a very active lifestyle to a VERY sedative one. Once I was mobile again, I was so down on myself, I didn't do anything but put more food in my maw and get lazier. If my situation had happened to him, someone who truly that disgusted, would he had been able to come to gripes with it and do something about it? Probably not. Yet he thinks he is better than me? Than all the people I know actively trying harder than they have ever tried at anything before? Yeah...no. The more I think about it, the more it REALLY ticks me off and wants me to keep going to prove to everyone like him that I AM better and if I am, so is everyone who fights this battle with me. I know it is petty. It just irks me. I mean, seriously. It is attitudes like that that help keep the epedimic the way it is because so many people fear public ridicule. Just...gah!

Delphi - You seriously do rock. I mean, just wow. I can't do more than an hour but half the time, can't even get that far. And I try. The fact you have so much on you and you still did it...just wow. True inspiration right there.

And...I am sad to announce my scale it slowly creeping back up. I mean, I was insanely busy this weekend, what with my mom breaking her leg and having to run a million errands for her and having a birthday cake I had to go out, but I never really deviated from plan. I had half a cupcake to make sure that the cake I was making for the birthday was up to par, but outside of that, I really was on plan the entire time, despite my time restraints. I can't help but wonder if it is true that some people gain weight just by looking at food. Either that or I am retaining water. Shouldn't be this late in the game, but I guess weirder things have happened. Regardless of the reason, it still sucks. BUT! I did have a NSV yesteray...I dropped two X's! I finally caved and bought some new clothes and found that I can now shop in the Misses (granted just barely) and can fit in a 1X!!!! Now that I am in clothes that fit, I am feeling pretty dang woohoo! :D

Thank you for your thoughtful answer zoesmom!!! We have been entertaining all those ideas as well. -- My DD is working at a pharmacy right now; she is debating between becoming a PharmD or a Radiologist. If she decides to become a ParmD, we are hoping for tuition reimbursement. She had pretty high GPA and ACT scores and is getting a nice scholarship for now; it is the latter years I am worried about, when those PhD tuition fees kick in. -- I feel lucky; I worked throughout my college and I had some inheritance money from my dad and I have no college debt. -- I also went to law school in, but in Finland :) That schooling was for free. -- I have never practiced law; I became a mom and never looked back.

I am sorry to hear about your mom!!! Did she need pins and plates? -- Don't worry about that scale for now, all the stress hormones are going to make it go up anyways :( to you and your mom!

Sum - no clue yet, She goes to the ortho surgeon today, so we should know a bit more by afternoon. Hopefully, a cast is all she needs. I hope it will be a cast only! -- I am expert at breaking bones ( I have a very petite and frail frame); one year I broke 5 of them :( I completely shattered my ankle and 8 months later, because of my bumm ankle (it locked on me) and fell down a flight of stairs and broke 2 bones on my right wrist. Ankle was really difficult to heal; I have a 7 inch plate, 7 pins and three screws on it...my wrist did not need surgery; it was a breeze.

Again, good luck to mom!! Btw; she sounds Finnish :D I am the most stubborn person there is, a national trait :lol3:

Sending my thoughts and prayers your way for her quick healing and recovery.

Well I said 2 hours starting today. Welllllll, things did not go as expected. I got my gear on and headed out to the greenway to walk, not run, just walk a little and that just didn't work out so well. I probably got half a mile and I swear I could feel each individual muscle group throbbing in my legs. So, I headed back to the car and now back home. I've been doing a little research and I guess I need to fully recover from the race and as long as I'm sore, I'm not supposed to exercise ! I suppose I knew that, but I'm impatient when it comes to goals I set. When I want something done, I want it done. I don't know, just a little frustrating. Guess I surf the internet and watch some netflix and just try to relax and let my body do its recovery thing but it better hurry the heck up..lol! So, I will get my strength training in and some stretching and work on my abs, at least all of those muscle groups aren't sore and can take a beating. Hope you guys are having a great day thus far.

Congrats Sum38 on the loss!

Delphi - Dude, good job on just getting out there and trying. AND congrats on being of the mindset that you can't wait until your recovery is done. What a great way to be feeling!

I'm psyched because I'm buying a bike today to start in on the Bike to Work challenge in May. I'm shooting for 2-3 days per week. It is a 22 mile round trip, so yeh, I definitely think it is going to help with seeing some pounds drop!

2fat2jump ~ Thank you kindly!

100mother ~ Did you get that bike? That sounds like a very good plan and a fun one at that. Its actually warming up around here now that you can get out on a bike. Sounds like a good idea to me. Is your route fairly linear and flat?

Well, I'm up and working this morning and a lot less sore but I can still feel a ping of pain on the tops of my feet and along the sides of my legs...just enough to make me question if perhaps one more day on the sidelines is best. Also, I fear TOM is lurking. It should be upon me any day now and I am not happy about that. He and I do not get a long at all. As I get older, TOM becomes insanely random. One day on, two days off, one day on, one day off...its so unpredictable it just makes the whole week maddening. Just come, do your thing and be gone...but nooooo, it has to be this whole dramatic presentation of madness! Argh!!! In any case, I'll get through it one way or the other but I am so not expecting a drop anytime this week. I was already up a pound today, so I'm pretty sure that number will keep rising.

Well you guys have an amazing day! I'm gonna get off here and actually get some work done.

Delphi Thanks :) The road I live on is a crescent, so if you keep going along it, eventually you come back round to the start again. I've been trying to run around it twice which would be 1.5 miles, at the minute alternating between running and fast walking until I have the stamina to run the whole thing. I'm hoping to venture out to a park or something soon!

Sum38 That's an awesome week, well done! :D

Sum38 that is fantastic. You are doing an amazing job. Its just melting off of you..eh?

Leaves ~ That sounds great. Not to many dogs in your neighborhood? There is actually a good course to follow here in my neighborhood if there weren't so many loose dogs. There is a leash law here but you know how that goes. Sounds like you have a good plan. Goodluck. You should be throwing back those miles in no time.

As for me, I tried once again today to do a little something. I thought I would try the track at the gym. So I walked a mile and then I just couldn't stand it anymore and started running. Got about half a mile and stopped though, didn't want to push to much. So at least I got that much in. Lots of errands today and my oldest has football so, should stay relatively busy. Hope you guys are having a great day!

Hello lovelies! How are you all doing?

Well, I have decided to take a break from working out. I have not since Thursday? I cannot recall, lol. I am very frustrated with my weight so far, I lost nothing in the whole month of April. I finally saw 166.0 exact this morning, back to square 1. I made a vow to myself to abstain from alcohol for at least a month because I really think that has been messing with my weight/losses so staying away from it for now.

Thursday after WI, I will restart 30 Day shred level 1 along with 30-60 minute on the elliptical trainers a couple times a week, still trying to decide whether to use 3lb or 5lb weights for the 30DS. Maybe the 3lbs to start out since I'm getting back into it.

Will update with personals later when I have a little bit more time! Until then, enjoy your afternoon!

amandie - I just restarted 30DS today. I was actually surprised to find it didn't kick my butt as bad as I thought it would...guess all the other stuff I have been doing has dramatically increased my stamina. WOOHOO! I will take it! Suckage about your weight, but at least you are still playing ball. That means you are still in the game and are sure to see something soon!

Sum - this is me...jealous. I gained a few pounds over the weekend and for the life of me can't figure out why as I did not derail and am not retaining water to the best of my knowledge (and TOM is still a couple weeks away.) You rock...but you are making me look bad!

WOW...I am impressed on how many bones you have broke...that sucks! I've only broke one, thankfully only a finger. Of course, it was on my 4th birthday, but that is a story for another day. Still no word on if mom has to have anything special done. Her bone doc keeps pushing her aside and has YET to see her! :o Been told he'll see her at 9 tomorrow morning for sure...let's hope. They've sent her away 3 times now because they didn't have the fax from the hospital with the x-ray results. Red tape, man. Red tape.

So...upon my newly found interest in running, I've begun to realize I need to go get fitted for running shoes, especially because I am prone to injury on my left leg due to repeat surgeries and a car wreck and all. So far, no pain, but I'd rather it not happen at all. Anyways, I decided I wouldn't go out yesterday. Except my 4 year old held me accountable (something to be said that she likes exercising :) ) Problem is, she doesn't have shoes really equipped for running as she is a Mary Jane's kinda kid. I mean, my kid dresses nicer than me all on her own, and I like to think I am a nice dresser. Anyways, I can wait to be fitted. Plan on doing it sometime this week. But since my kid is holding me accountable, I HAD to get her something so she could join me. The closest shoe store is 1.5 miles from me....not so bad, really. Well, we walked/jogged it. :) Yep. A 4 year old went 3 miles all on her own. We bought her shoes and now I have a partner, who can keep up with me and demands I go out...multiple times a day. All joking aside, I am proud that we went to the store on foot instead of in the car. And I am super impressed my kid kept up. I am so proud of that little one and just how in tune she is with the fact this is important to me. She busts me on everything...if I eat a chip, she busts me...if I skip exercise a day, she busts me. She really is the best partner I could ask for. And she was proud she went the whole way too. :) Of course...today she wanted to walk to Grandma's house...only a mere 65 miles one way. :o

:welcome: Leaves and Thedollylala! Glad to have you guys with us!

Delphi- You are a rockstar, seriously. Glad to hear you are less sore today, though- I'd probably be sore for 2 weeks at least after running a marathon like that! Every little bit that you can do helps. As for the TOM, if it does come, you may be due for a whoosh afterwards so that'll be something to look forward to, lol. I wish I could walk/run in my neighborhood but too many loose dogs in the yards, no sidewalks and I am totally deaf so I'd have no idea if the dog(s) or a car would be behind me/after me.

Way to go, Sum38 on the whoosh and additional droppage this week, just amazing!!! I still cannot believe you broke 5 things in a year! I hear ya on the Finnish trait- I have a good friend who is Finnish and she is the most stubbornest person I know, lol! I <3 her though! :D

Zoesmom- So sorry to hear about your mom and her leg! Walking 3 hours on it?! Wow. Stress totally can make the scale go up. I really doubt you truly gained. Healing thoughts go out to your mom. YAY on your NSV! Your daughter seriously sounds awesome! I wish I had a kid to keep me accountable. !!!! Thanks so much for the kind words. Yea, the 30DS isn't that bad but it has been a year since I last did it so a bit nervous, heh!!

100Mother- Oooh, what kind of bike are you getting? 22 miles 2-3 times a week will definitely help you drop the lbs! Sounds like a great plan.

Emula- It's okay! I haven't been perfect either but I try to get back on track the next day or balance it out with a little less food and some exercise. Hope things will/are settling down for you soon enough and yay for getting back on track! BTW, I love your avi- so cute!

Adlea- You totally can do it! I believe in you. How are you doing on WW so far?

2fat2jump- I agree, I just grin every time zoesmom talks about her 4 year old and how much she supports her mom. Makes my heart swell so much. I just love that. I dunno if I ever told you but I really love your avi, so beautiful.

Today was low-key, did laundry and cleaned up a bit. Tonight was dart league and we won 10-3, yay! 2 more games until playoffs (doubt we will make it in since we're dead last, lmao.) I will be glad when it's over because honestly, it is mostly the cause of temptation to drink. I mean we play at bars, ffs! I did good tonight and just had water. *pats on back* I did get the itch to work out today but decided just to wait until Thursday after WI, my ridiculous reason is I fear I will go up on the scale from the exercise if I start now after not having done it for a few days due to water. So for my (in)sanity, I need to see something good on Thursday.

Have a great night, all!

Good Morning Peeps!

zoesmom ~ I can talk a little bit about running shoes and I can not stress the importance of having the perfect shoes. Through my training for the race I went through 3 pairs of shoes. I use sarcony as they were finally what fit best for me. My advice is to go to a running shoe store as they will look at your current shoe and kind of get an idea of wear you need support depending upon how the tread has shifted or wore on your shoe. They will pay much more detail to getting you in the right shoes as opposed to just any shoe store. I think that you have to change them out every so often as well. I'm not sure on the exact mileage but I'm sure google will know. Awesome about your kiddo! I'm so proud of her. Wish I could give her a high five for keeping you accountable. I think it is awesome you can share this with her. You are teaching her a valuable lesson and being an excellent role model for which you should be proud as well. :bravo:

emula ~ We missed you to. Glad to see you are back at it. Any particular plan to get you back in the game?

adlea ~ Good luck with the weigh in. Sure all will go well. I'm sure you will see your goals by the wedding. Your hard work will indeed pay off.

amandie ~ Wish i new how to help. That stall would frustrate me as well. We have all been there so we know how maddening it can be. I'm gonna send lots of good vibes your way! Can you pinpoint anything that you could change to kind of shake your body up a bit. Perhaps your body is just used to what you have been doing. Good luck with your tournaments. Sounds like fun. I used to love darts way back in my younger days!

Well good news, my legs actually feel normal this morning. Its supposed to be 81 today so I can't wait to get out to the greenway and get some miles under my belt. I have really felt lazy these past couple of days. I have trained so hard since January that it just feels weird not to be doing something. I also signed up for a local superhero 5k the 18th, which is something to look forward to. I have been searching near and far for another half but looks like most are in the winter months and that worries me. In any case, I have to get back to work. I will check in with you all later. Sure hope you all have an amazing day. Burn those calories and don't forget your smiles.

Delphi - I'm likely going to hit the specialty store today or Friday (Thursday's are a no-go for time.) Although, they may have problems looking at my tread on my shoes...I tend to wear platforms and pumps throughout the day and my sneakers, while not new, have probably only been worn a two dozen times ever. I tend to change out shoes way too often, so they never have a chance to get worn down. I know when I started looking up running shoes and getting fitted, it looks like the life span of a good running shoe that is fitted properly runs between 300-500 miles.

amandie - only two months for me. I feel a little sore today, but not anywhere like I did the first time. You have to be right about the stress. I got down to 247 and then the scale bounced up to 250 and just is not budging...and I have been on plan. It is killing me! I had JUST gotten into a new BMI category then bounced back into the old one again! GAH! Waiting for my woosh...I need it. Things are getting more stressful by the hour. Hubby quit smoking cold turkey and well...things have not been pretty. At all. Oui. Just..oui....

2fat, Delphi, and amandie -super proud of my kid too. :) I just wish I had her energy. T-Ball practice twice a week, ballet, AND swim lessons...PLUS she wants to run every day! And I swear, she signed herself up for these activites! I had nothing to do with it outside of the wallet part. Kid just has too much energy. So much in fact, Durecell is looking to replace the bunny with her. If only I could harvest it....I'd be rich!

Thanks thnkthin, looks like you are as well.

zoesmom ~ Yup, that sounds about right. Well my dad when I started all of this told me to make sure I never wore my running shoes anywhere but to run/walk/exercise because of the mileage etc., so like a good daughter I don't. Though, my everyday shoes are my old running shoes. So exactly the same pair I use for running but hey my feet are comfortable and I recycled my running shoes. Anywho, I'm sure you and the specialist will figure it out. My advice (and most specialty shoes store encourage this) is to go outside the store and run down the street in them first. Make sure there is plenty of room for your foot to expand as that is what are feet do once we start running especially for any duration of time.

Well I just finished up at the green way. Its only 3.5 miles and I felt like I got a good workout in (ran 2, walked 1) but I am experimenting a bit. As mentioned before I wear a bodymedia device so I want to see where my calories burned for the day will be with just the 45 minutes with the run today. I'm trying to set a target of at least 2700, that way I can create a pretty good deficit for the day. I might end up just going to the gym and hitting the track though and doing 5 miles but I tend to get done a lot quicker at the gym, I think because the track is climate controlled and the rubber track (or whatever it is) is a lot easier on the knees and less pounding in general as compared to asphalt/concrete etc. Its hard to try to find a routine i can be satisfied with now. I feel like I'm reverting back...if that makes any sense? In any case, I'm gonna get off here and do some cleaning and maybe run an errand or two. OH and I almost forgot. I always weigh myself when I get back from a run and usually I'm up a pound or two, well when I weighed I was actually down 2 pounds. So, that was good enough for me. I rushed in here to my computer and changed my ticker..lol! I just need to see a lower number once. I really wanted to see a drop before TOM reared his ugly sith-loving head. Well gotta run, you guys enjoy your days!

Good news, all!!!! I have finally broke through the 166 barrier- 165.6 this am! Seriously SO happy! Seeing that number has helped me tremendously and I am seriously (re-)committed to this, no deviating!

Delphi- Thank you for the good vibes- seems like they worked! :D Really, if I were to be truly honest- I wasn't really 100% OP with the late night snacking and drinking even. I did start to get lax about tracking when I was getting frustrated and that didn't help either. I started thinking really deep within myself and realized that I will have to be more strict with myself and that those little things add up quickly now that I am smaller, you know?

Haha, I would have changed my ticker too esp with the TOM coming up! I want a HRM, specifically the PolarFt4 or Ft7 (is that similar to the bodymedia and what it does?) I definitely agree that treadmills, etc are definitely different than running outside. Glad you seem to be mostly healed today enough to get back into your new routine! I actually smiled when you said "and don't forget your smiles." I'm happy that you're here with us, really because you're so uplifting and positive!

Thnknthin1- Looks like you're doing well too!!! Keep it up, girl!

Zoesmom- I cracked up at the duracell comment! Yikes about hubby quitting cold turkey but at least he quit, that's a step in the right direction! I have been kinda bugging my BF to quit smoking but I try not to nag too much. When he is ready to quit, he will. Good luck finding new running shoes today if you're able to make it. Sending you some :::whoosh dust:::!! 2 months with the 30DS is awesome! I probably only did a month's worth before I got hurt and stopped. (I was doing a couple of routines back then so 30DS was done every other day.)

Enjoy your day too, girls and guys!

Just wondering if there are any of you guys that loathe cooking and/or just do not cook at all. My BIGGEST problem with weight loss is food, mainly because I hate cooking. I could really use some help on this front.

i'm with you on this one. Hate cooking and don't do it (much). Mainly live on cereal for brekkie and salads lunch and dinner! Lots of different salads though (i've been in US the last two weeks and notice that the definition of a salad over there seems to have to include lettuce!?!) There's lots of other veggies to make salads from!

Hubby does cooking at a weekend, and we often make a big batch of curry or chilli or ratatouille, or risotto or casserole of some sort, which then gets divided in to portions (in plastic bags) and put in freezer - then i'll often have a bag of 'something' from the freezer with veggies, or with salad.

Interesting. I have done that but only to help me drink more water because sometimes water is so... bland, lol.

I am down 37 lbs. My goal with WW is 50 so I hope I get there. I have done so many different diets and find that WW is the one for a lifestyle change. I feel great, i'm finally eating fruits and veggies and it seems my body must have been missing them. It takes people like you to make people like me see there may be an end in site. Thanks to you for the encouragement.

adlea ~ You are almost there. Apparently WW is doing wonders for you. Keep up the amazing work. I'm sure you will see that 50!

angel82much ~ :welcome: Thanks for the helpful advice. Glad I am not the only one in the "I hate to cook" club. Lets burn some calories and see those 9 pounds just fly off, shall we?

sinderelly ~ Sending fat melting vibes your way. Sure hope you see that pound tomorrow.

wolfgirl ~ Hope that bloat gets under control for ya!

sum38 ~ Sure hope you see that top 10. You have just been dropping those pounds.

tehshort1 ~ :welcome: Glad to have you aboard.

amandie ~ Well :bravo: :congrat: and a big :woohoo: on that drop. I know you are excited...heck, I'm excited for you. I know it must feel great to see that scale budge after a stall. :carrot: My bodymedia is identical to a body bugg. Its main purpose is a calorie expenditure calculator I guess. So I have a pretty good idea what I burn all day as opposed to like a HRM. Thing is great cause it connects to all my apps like myfitnesspal to keep track of my intake and runkeeper and even eardnit (which if any of you have not used this site I recommend it. Its free. all you do is workout and you earn points for your workouts which in turn you can use your points to redeem for stuff/products etc or what I do is donate my points towards the various charities they have. Great site.) In any case, it really is a great tool for my weight loss and is highly accurate. The math really adds up. As I create my deficits based on what the body media says I burn minus my intake, I lose the weight accordingly. I have been very happy with it. Though, I have wore it so long now I think I have a pretty good grasp on what I burn on off days and what I burn on very active days and where I need to keep my calories. I have to wear it 24 hours a day which can be a pain seeing as I'm in the sun a lot and now I have a beautiful white ring around my arm..lol!

Well I really need to get to work. I think I am going to hit the gym after work instead of going to the greenway, as I want to get 5 miles in today. I'm actively looking for a new course to run though, just haven't found one yet. Well you guys have an amazing day! I'm gonna bust through my 5 hours and then burn some calories.

Today, I dreaded the scale. I haven't budged since my weird jump over the weekend. I'm pretty much back at square one, plus some. I still don't get it. Has to be stress. I've been 100% compliant outside of that 1/2 cupcake on friday last week and I haven't gotten too crazy with my workouts. I mean, I added in walks and jogs and such, but I ommitted my treadmill time to accomidate it, so I am at a loss. Oh well. Here's to movement next week (in the RIGHT direction this time!)

Sorry about the carb loading, but awesome on the loss Sum! :cheer:

:welcome: tehshort and angel82 to our little club house! Here's to burning fat and shedding pounds! :)

Delphi - you have way too many cool little gadgets. Although, I have to admit, don't envy the ring around the arm look you are sporting. Gosh, 5 miles. And here I can barely get through a mile on a good day (yesterday I didn't even get 3/4 of a mile, but I had a cake contract I had to work on so it took some time from me.) Oddly, my legs hurt today...in my inner thighs only though. Got to admit, that's a new one for me. And I didn't even do anything out of the ordinary yesterday, did less even. :?:

Thedollylala - I wish I could blame TOM on my upward trend. Who knows, maybe that is it and I don't know it. I doubt it though. I have to guess on my TOM....I haven't had a period in at least eight years. First it was endometriosis, then it was pregnancy, then it was an IUD. I mean, the good thing is, I am 30 and haven't had to buy tampons through most of my 20's. The bad thing is, after a few years, you stop counting and just guess. And I am pretty sure I guessed it two weeks ago when I had unbearable cramps and that was all...I guess it could have been a mild stomach bug. SO FRUSTRATING trying to figure that one out! Anyways...you'll have a better week next week, I just know it!

adlea - commmmmon 50! I am so excited for you!

sinderelly - hoping you have a better weigh in than me :)

wolfgirl - sending good vibes your way. Bloating sucks so hard

Way to go wolfgirl and tibbit and leaves!!!! Rock this weight loss! :carrot:

On an unrelated note, I wanna share cuteness from my kid this morning.

So, my amazing and awesome husband has given up smoking this week and has been a crab butt. Anyways, all is well, and we've been telling the girl that he is sick (withdrawal) but will be better soon. Here is this morning's conversation with her when I was taking her to school. I think my husband and and I may need to sleep with one eye open for the rest of our lives now. :tired:

ZoŽ: Daddy is sick because of icky smoky. He was washing the icky smoke off in the shower so he will be all better.
Me: Yep. Daddy quit the icky smoke and it made him sick. He’ll be better soon once it all gets out of him
ZoŽ: IT’S IN HIM?!? OH NO!!!! MOMMY!
Me: What?
ZoŽ: If the icky smoke is in Daddy he will NEVER get better! We got to get the icky smoke out!
Me: Well, that is what he is doing. He quit smoking the icky smoke. It takes some time, but he’ll get better, promise.
ZoŽ: I know! I’ll grow up and be a doctor. And then I will cut out Daddy’s stomach and he’ll be ALL better because I will take all the icky smoke out.
Me: You are going to…cut?...your dad’s tummy out?
ZoŽ: YEP! I am going to be the BEST doctor EVER and make EVERYONE better by cutting them up and giving them shots in the butt and Daddy will be ALL better and I will keep his tummy out so he NEVER gets sick again!
Me: (blink) You…are going to cut people up?
ZoŽ: Yeah! And then everyone can stay in my hospital and I’ll never let them leave. They will be better so well!
Me: You realize if you want to be a doctor, that you have to go to school for a long time and do lots of homework and never fuss, right?
ZoŽ: It’s okay, Mom, it’s okay. I’ll go to school. And then I’ll learn it super fast and then I’ll be a great doctor, cut everyone up, and keep them in my hospital so they re never sick.
Me: I….I….suddenly think that I am probably going to stay far away from your….uh….dungeon-pital. Uhm…kinda scary there kiddo.
ZoŽ: It’s okay, Mom. I’ll cut you and Daddy first.

zoesmom ~ Well wasn't that just an entertaining conversation. They do say the darnest things, don't they? You know, when I restarted my journey last year, I only managed to exercise. I never could get my diet under control for long periods of time. Last year, I would go out to the greenway which is about 3 miles and just walk it and that was so hard for me to do. Then in January when I started training, I started with 3 miles at the track just walking and that killed me. I could barely run a lap around the track at the gym (10 laps = a mile) and that about killed me. Then one day, the funniest thing, I just said I'm going to jog, baby steps literally. I believe some of the folks on the track were passing me walking, but by doing that I was able to keep my heart rate down and my breathing under control and I was able to make it around that track twice and that was just like the greatest thing ever. Then a week later, I just went for 5 laps and ended up at 10 and I'll be darned if I didn't run my first mile. The biggest thing was just finding the right pace for me. The pace where you can just breathe without gasping for air. Its just a gradual process. I just learned to not push to hard but to just a little and that just worked for me. Oh and you mentioned soreness in your legs. There is the culprit right there. Whenever you are sore, there is a rebuilding process going on. Your body is using/storing water to repair those muscles. So, you are most likely retaining. I know the days after I have a really good strength training session and my muscles are sore, I will always be up a pound if not more. So I make sure to drink even more water on those days.

sum38 ~ You are still doing an amazing job. Enjoy those 5 miles and burning all those calories. Sending my go-away-carbs-juju your way.

tibbits2u ~ :bravo: on the 2 pounds. Keep up the amazing work. Seems like your plan is working wonders for you.

leaves ~ Good luck on the run today. I really do hope its a great one for you. Oh, and :congrat: on your weigh-in! Good job!

wolfgirl ~ I am so happy that you are thrilled with your progress because at the end of the day that is all that matters. The more positive we can look at our journeys, the more likely we are to succeed! Kudos! This journey is emotional and we are going to have those bad days but there are so many things we can learn from those bad days to improve our plans. Just try to remember its a work in progress and just keep your head up and keep moving forward.

thedollylala ~ Darn TOM, always screwing up our weigh-in's. Hopefully next week you will see your hard work pay off on Darth Scale. Good luck on those 4 miles, sounds fun!

As for me, I just finished up my 5 miles at the greenway! It was hot and awesome. Felt good to get some real miles under my belt again. My dad says I need a new goal to keep me from going into a post-race mini-depressive state. I think he is right. I need structure when it comes to exercise and at times my diet. I have a 5k coming up but heck I can do that with my eyes closed, well okay, maybe not but you guys know what I'm saying. I don't want to train per se, rather just have a more structured routine again. I was on this 4 month routine with training and never deviated from it, perhaps because I didn't wanna drop dead during the race. I might do a little research and see what I can dig up. Sure hope you guys are having an amazing day and laughing as much as possible!!

zoesmom
05-02-2013, 01:30 PM
wolfgirl - wait...are you seriously weighing every 1-2 hours? Not only does that not give you an accurate reading, but it will drive you literally mad.

It is best to weigh once a week, at the same time of day (preferabbly morning), and if at all possible in the nude.

Some people weigh every day, I happen to be one of those, but it isn't to obsess about the scale not going down or about going up, but more to hold accountable for what was shoveled in our maws...afterall, the scale will always rat us out if we lie.

But to obsess about a number on the scale every day, much less every hour is not a very healthy way to get your mind around losing weight. Nor is it a very accurate way.

Our bodies flucuate daily and even hourly depending on many factors...water, minerals, weight of food digested, calories consumed, hormone flucuation, sodium intake, water retention, bowel movements (or lack of), and the list goes on and on and on.

Try focusing on once a week, or if you MUST do it every day, only once a day. And DON'T dwell on it. It is just a number. A more accurate reading is going to be how your clothes feel and what the tape measure says. I mean, I only lost 45 pounds or so....but I went from a 3x to a 1x...I weigh MORE now than I did 6 years ago, but I am fitting in smaller sizes. Scale means crap in a short term basis. As long as the number treads downwards, even at a snails pace, that is all that matters.

(however, if you are doing this just for giggles, then keep it up :))

wolfgirl69
05-02-2013, 01:32 PM
Yea I'll be thrilled with it no matter but it would be nice if it did go under 171-which I think it will.

wolfgirl69
05-02-2013, 01:34 PM
My new scale is actually REALLY accurate because I put this dumbbell on it to "reset" it before I get on and it always gives me a true reading... no matter how sucky it sometimes is lol. And I weigh so much cause I have no I have nothing to do all day, no one to talk to, so basically not much that makes me happy. So seeing the number drop. Even if it's just when after I've eaten and dranken and the water and food weight is going down-it makes me happy. :) I know that's sad but my therapist says if it's not hurting anyone and if I didn't have the scale and I didn't have a problem with not being able to weigh it's fine. :)

Thanks Dellphi! I just got back from it, I think I managed a little more running than last time which is good! Running always gives me a crazy sore throat though which is pretty much always the main reason why I have to stop and walk for a bit. It sucks, I dont know why it happens :( I'm hoping that with more practise it'll improve!

Wolfgirl I find myself weighing myself at multiple times a day too. My scales are in the kitchen, so every time I wander through I'm like 'hmmm, let's see...' haha. I never thought to reset the scales with a dumbbell, that's a great idea!

How is everyone doing today? :)

NathalieMargareta ~ The weight does seem to take forever to come off when you don't have much to lose. I've heard so many stories about the last few pounds being the hardest to come off. Lets hope this is not the case for you.

amandie ~ No derailing going on around here girlfriend! Getting out of routine can be a slippery slope for some of us. You will do fine and I'm sure you will be kicking some butt today!

sinderelly ~ :congrat: on the 2 miles. I know how exhilarating and exciting that can be, so I know you are on cloud 9! If I have learned anything in the last 4 months is that running can cause the scale to act crazy. You body wants to hold on to and use every bit of water in your system which can cause the scale to be wonky. Perhaps now that you are distance running, a little more water intake will help the scale move the right way.

Ian ~ :bravo: on the 1.8 down.

angel82 ~ I'm with you on this. Any loss on the scale is good enough of me, fluctuation or not. Kudos on your loss. Keep up the amazing work.

adlea ~ Great job! :woohoo:

irish51 ~ Great job on the loss. :carrot:

emula ~ Oh my, kudos to you on the Zumba. I tried it through the Kinect and man my knees just couldn't get it. Perhaps I just didn't have rhythm, but it was very high impact and I'm sure you are burning boat loads of calories. Can't wait to hear more! Shake that thing girl!

leaves ~ A sore throat ..eh? Are you drinking enough water before you run? I always down at least 64 ounces before I go out in the morning for my run/walks. (Not all at once but at least get another 24 down right before I walk out the door.) Making sure you have enough hydration before the run may help and of course plenty during/after your run. I noticed a lot to that my hands will swell to if I'm not properly hydrated especially on hot days. I also carry chapstick as that is my biggest problem, my lips drying out on me even when hydrated but less so when I am hydrated. Listen to your body and experiment with different hydration routines and it may help. Sometimes I even carry a mint for dry mouth but like I said once I found a good hydration routine I no longer needed it.

Happy Friday folks! I'm off on Fridays so, I'm just taking it easy so far. I have a billion and one things to do today though. However, before I do anything else, I make exercise my priority. So I'll head out in a few in get some miles in and then I can come home and deal with all the cleaning, running errands and laundry (the bane of my existence)! Right now, my boyfriend is working on a job out of town but he is coming home on the 17th and I'm getting kinda worried about how that might hinder my progress since he has been gone. He left in February. He is the cook in the house and a good one at that. He is supportive and would make me healthy food but then again when we starting dating I was 175 and regained 37 pounds. I'm not saying he made me do it, but he likes to take me out and we ate out a lot even my exercise routine took a hit at times, so I'm kinda worried. Though now every since the race he has been saying that he wants to workout and stay healthy etc. So perhaps it will be a good thing. I just don't want to become complacent. He loves me so much he could careless really what I do. I need structure when it comes to my goals and I do not need anyone to enable bad behavior or habits. I guess I need to relay all this to him..eh? Especially these next few weeks before vacation. I am determined to get to the 170s before we leave June 29th! Determined and so I am making that a priority. I just want it to stay that way and I do not think in any way that I am being selfish. I have spent my entire life taking care of others and now, I do not think it is much to ask to be able to take care of myself. Too bad if people do not understand but that is just the way it is going to be!! Haha! Oh gosh, I've just rambled on and I need to get my butt in my workout gear. I need more pants. I'm anti-cotton, so its hard to find material that I can wear during my workouts. Shirts are easy but pants are hard to find. Most are blends of cotton/spandex/polys and I need at the least a 90 spandex, 10 poly to be half way happy. I digress again...okay, I'm getting off here now..Really, I am. You guys have an amazing day. Laugh, smile and have fun!!!
