Default How many of you have conceived while on Metformin?

Just curious to know...am really eager to get pregnant and have started metformin a couple of days ago. How many of you ladies out there have been successful? I haven't had a period on my own in over a year and hope that this will cause me to ovulate and finally get a period!

Hi! I am sorry that I don't have any results to report to you, but I am also interested in the results. I have been taking the same med. for 7 days now. I am also wanting to get pregnant as soon as possible.

Wink

I know! I am so impatient! And my gynecologist said that I should ovulate within 6-8 weeks if metformin is going to work for me but even that seems too long to wait! I was reading on the internet, some women said that they ovulated a couple of days after starting metformin, so I'm thinking maybe I should get an ovulation predictor kit and test every day...

MY DR PUT ME ON AVANDIA. I ASKED ABOUT METAFORMIN AND HE SAID THAT HE HAD TRIED IT WITH SOME OF HIS PATIENCE WITH NO RESULTS. ON THE OTHER HAND HE SAID SINCE HE PUT HIS INFERTILE PCOS PATIENTS ON AVANDIA HIS DELIVERIES HAVE BEEN BOOMING. HE EVEN SAID HE HAS A FEW PATIENTS GO BACK FOR ROUND TWO. I WILL POST IF IT WORKS FOR ME. SO LET ME KNOW IF THE METAFORMIN WORKS FOR YOU. ALSO MENTION AVANDIA TO YOUR DR. IT IS EXPENSIVE BUT I HOPE IT IS WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN.

Hi Donnagial,

That's very interesting because my gynecologist told me the exact opposite! I guess different things work for different people. As for me, AF came 10 days after I started met. Judging from my temperatures, I have yet to ovulate and I'm on cd24. I'm going to stick it out a little while longer and if nothing happens, I will ask my gyn about actos or avandia. Thanks for the feedback!

Default I DID

HI ,

I used to come to 3FC all the time, but then i found soulcysters.com and it was great for ttcing.

I did become pregnant after starting glucophage/metformin. I started taking it in April of 2002 and got pg 6 weeks later.

I had very slightly IR and got my periods every 27 days. Glucophage in my opinion regulated all my hormones andtestosterone and started me to have stronger ovulations. Now if you haven't had a period in a year, it might take awhile longer to get regulated.

Glucophage was a miracle drug to me. I now have a 5 month ornery little boy, named Aidan.

I know lots of women it has worked for, so let me know if you want more info.

Hi there, Lori. I too have joined soulcysters, it's a great site! Thanks for giving me hope, I did get a period 10 days after starting met, but since then nothing. I've been charting and no O yet. I'll be patient, though, I know it takes some longer than others.

Well how many mgs are you on of glucophage?

My RE says that he doesnt see a difference unless you are on 1500mgs or more.

IT took me a bit but my stomach finally got used to it and lo and behold a +pg! I stayed on the glucophage for 20 weeks into my pg too. There are tons of studies on it ,a nd the FDA is debating it now, that 'll take forever.

THey say pcos'rs have a 40% rate of m/c's, but while on met or glucophage the rate goes down to a normal rate of 9%. So i stayed on till 20 weeks, some stay the whole time and some til the first trimester.

I had 4 glucola tests and always came out shining!

I hope it works for you but dont get discouraged yet, plus your dosage is important.

I'm on 1500mg's right now, but depending on how my blood tests go, I may ask her to increase the dosage since nothing seems to be happening. Thank you for the encouragement, though. Do you mind telling me how long it took you to first ovulate on met?

hey there,

well i have a different variety of pcos. I already ovulated prior to met. i just had a real weak ovulation due to the testosterone and such. plus i didn't have highenough progesterone. So i was on progesterone suppositories too.

The thing that changed for me wa sthe second month on met at full dosage i ovulated 4 days earlier and it caught dh and i off guard, so we had to come home for a quickie over lunch. I believe that is the day i conceived my son, Aidan.

But i do know others who took a few months to ovulate and then got pg on met alone. My Re really believed in met./injections/and IUI's, so don't give up hope girl.

Default Conceived while on Metformin

Hi,
I successfully got pregnant while using the met in compination with clomid after only one month. We were trying for about 3 yrs when we finally conceived. I started doing some research after that first year and discovered I had PCOS. After several dr. changes, I found one that believed me. I had a laporoscopy done in July( to make sure all my parts were ok) and conceived in Sept. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Well I did loose about 20 pounds thanks to the gluc/met. I really helped me lose weight. I did start seeing a fertility specialist. After having so many arguements with the regular ob's. I think once your body starts processing insulin the way it should you automatically will loose some weight. I was taking a prenatal and a folic acid along with a low dose adult aspirin/baby aspirin. I got that tip from someone who is faithful to Soulscyters. Other than that I didnt do any thing different. I actually could not aford my entire clomid perscription, so I had my pharmacist only give me half the dose. We joke now about having twins if I would have taken the entire dosage. I was only on 1000mg my dr would not let me go any higher. I here its best that you not take more If you dont have a very severe case of PCOS.

Hope this helps,

Qweenie
