Krampus - I did 90 burpees over 20 minutes mixed in with other exercises in the sets last Friday and almost died. I can't imagine doing 100 all at one time. Are you doing a challenge with them or were they just for kicks?

Shannon - 90 in 20 minutes + other things is no laughing matter! I probably took 15 minutes or so to do 100. They weren't all at once - I had to break it into sets of 10-20 and I didn't time my rest periods. It was just because I had dilly-dallied so long I ran out of time to go to the gym before work.

I'm SO sore today. Maaaaaybe I will have a gentle low impact arc trainer session tonight, and maybe I'll just take a g.d. rest day.

30 minute training session doing bench presses (correcting my form, as I'd been holding the barbell too far up, not at the top of my ribs), incline bench presses, dips on the Gravitron, then skull-crushers and close-grip presses, and then cable pulls for the triceps.
60 minutes back on the elliptical, random intervals, resistance back up to nine, alternating forward and backward

I love the training sessions but dread them, too, partly because I have to get to the gym by 5:30 - 5:45 AM to warmup beforehand, and that's tough on a Monday. (I missed the "Madmen" premiere last night to get to bed early, unfortunately.) But also partly because I find myself wanting to live up to the trainer's expectations. What does it mean, that it matters so much to me what the trainer thinks? Will I ever outgrow being a Daddy-Pleaser?

Because I didn't keep to my routine for Tuesday, which is 30 minutes of cardio before and then after a strength training session.

Yes, it's magical thinking, and using exercise as a talisman, which is why I'm confessing here, because getting it down in black & white makes me confront it.

A talisman that I've done one thing that surely will have good results, since I'm not used to immediate gratification.

Food used to offer immediate gratification, and I think my life has become all about delayed gratification.

Pulled something on my left shoulder -- I tried to do tricep dips unassisted in the captain's chair. Not a good idea. I've put ointment on it, held a bag of frozen peas on it and I've taken some ibuprofen.

Usually I do pushups and bench presses on Tuesday mornings, but my shoulder still feels tender from yesterday's injury and I don't want to mess with it.

When I tried to do bench tricep dips and those pushups where your hands are way back & right up against your sides -- I think of them as yoga pushups or "danda" -- my arm practically gave way underneath me. The thing that I hurt on Monday morning is my front delt. I'm gonna rest it again tomorrow.

YESSS!!!! [Doing the wave for Jen.]

This is one of my goals, so I know what this can mean as a physical achievement.

For me, it may not happen for a couple more months. I'm still getting stronger. Also if I dropped some weight, that would help.

Friday is when I do assisted pullups. I may have to skip them this week. Tomorrow I'm trying to rest my anterior deltoid (that's what's hurting me) after straining it, even with a trainer watching ... and moments after he'd talked about how delicate the shoulders are. We'll see how I feel Friday morning.

Thanks Saef!! I've been able to do unassisted chin-ups for a while, but pull-ups have been a no go! In an attempt to get my back muscles more defined, I've been working hard on assisted pull-ups and last night FINALLY managed to get my chin over the bar without help!

I am sore today, so I agree with resting when your body tells you to! Let me know when you are able to do an unassisted one!!

WOWOWOWOWOW, that's amazing Jen! So exciting!

I left work 3 hrs early yesterday after a lunchtime run with my BF outside and sub sandwiches at a picnic table in the sunshine. Pfffft. I am an administrative professional and yesterday was Administrative Professionals' Day, so what better way to celebrate than to leave work early?

April 24: 2.5-3? mile jog at lunch, then walked maybe 5 miles from BF's house across the river, to a park (Peebles Island!) and back.

April 25 AM: DB bench press, barbell pendlay rows, deadlifts (moved weight up to 155# - DL my most recent "heavy" self!), tried front squats w/barbell and did one set of OHP. I forgot sneakers but had hiking boots handy - they are WAY better on lifting days than my running sneakers!

Thursday, April 25th:

60 minutes on lightweight Life Fitness elliptical, which I didn't like much, alternating forward & backward, resistance at 10. This hotel had a fabulous gym but not a particularly good model of the elliptical, even though it was brand new

Also hamstring curls and leg curls, and that thing where you hold a barbell in one hand and pull upright with your abs

Do you guys have room for another maintainer,been maintaining and below this month and really NEED a place to track exercise besides MFP. I live in a small town and hardly anyone exercises and my class exercise instructor thinks she invented HIIT and Tabbatta this year??
I am 61 next month, have just taken off a nagging 27 lbs since X mas. ( It was a regain HAPPY FAT?!) Discovered I loved exercise at 56 before that was a total couch potato. Now it's my play time.

30 minutes Stairmaster step mill, resistance at nine, aerobic intervals
60 minutes back & biceps routine
Also added barbell squats, deadlifts and adductor machine for outer hips

But I didn't get back on the Stairmaster for another half hour, as I usually do. I'm experimenting, I guess.

Thanks for allowing me just got an email front exercise instuctor[Backside comment on, she had to send a friend an article on overtraining to pass on to her students} would I like the article BUT she than she thought it was great if I felt good which I do!!! THING is these people around here have not seen me in this condition or at 126 to 130 only 155 to 160And I did MORE than this and maintained for 2 years. SOOOO.

Shoveled out a years worth of stuff in the chicken coop and then scrubbed the whole thing down with bleach and then carried huge bags of pine shavings and opened them and raked them out in the coop. (2:20)

I ran through my package of five personal training sessions, and liked them enough -- because we focused on strength training & form -- so that I know how I'll probably spend a portion of my tax refund.

Tuesday, April 30th:

30 minutes Stairmaster, aerobic intervals, resistance at nine. More than the usual effort today, and pouring sweat. I think it's the really high humidity combined with cool temperatures that keep the gym from putting on its airconditioning.
60 minutes shoulders, chest and triceps routine
Tried this new machine in the gym that guides you through a kneeling donkey kick. I need much heavier weight on this than I'd thought initially.

I'm trying an experiment of not doing a full hour of cardio on Tues & Fri. Usually I split it in half before & after strength training. I want to see if I can reclaim an hour of my life each week & get basically the same results, or if this affects my weight.

April 29:
-15 min warmup on arc trainer
-Pullups, dips on Gravitron. DB bench press, bent over rows and bicep curls with barbell, DB and barbell overhead press.
-1 mile cooldown run on treadmill
-Leg lifts, front and side planks.
