Hi Annie,
Have you had success with these DVDs? I recently had spinal/neck surgery. My neurosurgeon has forbidden me to lift any weight over 10 lbs. So I am looking for a fat burning, low impact exercise.

OOH! Look at all the new friends! So glad to see you all here.

Tubo, looks like you are doing it right, girl. Work your way back up and don't overdo!

Mantuagirl, yes, I have had great success with these workouts. I've had a fusion of my cervical spine and a lower back surgery, too. Mine were long ago, but I am VERY careful with my neck. None of Leslies videos use more than 3 pound weights, at least the ones that I have. If you've been cleared for low-impact workouts, I HIGHLY suggest any of her DVDs. Even the ones where she pumps up the action to hight impact for a short while are always introduced with the option to stay low impact. I have to stay low impact for my knees. You'll still get a great workout, though.

Hi Carol!!

Thank you! :) Oh and a lil something I wanted to share with the Leslie Sansone fans.....you can find many of the work outs/walks for FREE on Youtube!!! I watch all of mine via Youtube and there's tons of them all the way from the 1 mile walk to the 5 mile ;)

Thanks for the response Annie. My mobility will continued to be limited for some time so these DVD’s may be invaluable. Best of luck with your knees.

Wii PT Easy Lower Body: 2 sets of 11 exercises (18 minutes)
50 inner & outer thigh lifts
50 butt lifts each side

I think I figured out my hip!!! I was fine for the last few days, then today I did the 5 mile walk dvd with the 2 minutes boosts after each mile and as soon as I started jogging my hip started hurting so bad. I think it is the jogging impact on it that is making it hurt so much. I didn't jog after I realized it was making it hurt but by then the damage was done for today at least. Next time I won't jog at all and see if it is better, if it doesn't hurt then I have figured out the mystery of the hurting hip, lol, I feel like Nancy Drew. :mag:

if it doesn't hurt then I have figured out the mystery of the hurting hip, lol, I feel like Nancy Drew. This is basically why I don't do the high impact. I bought the newest dvd for abs but there is a lot of jumping in it. I'll be 64 Sun. and I don't do well with jumps anymore.

Hey everyone!

Tubo-I can def sympathize with the tooth ordeal! I wouldn't exercise today/evening or you might get it throbbing and you don't want that!

Ataraxia-Kudos for walking even if you didn't feel like it. It's worth it in the long run! It's amazing how stiff I feel some mornings before I exercise, then how wonderful and strong I feel after I do.

Carol-You're doing great!

I'm enjoying an evening alone here on a dreary, rainy night watching Duck Dynasty all evening! Going to try hard to stay within my calories, but did buy myself a fat free frozen yogurt for later.

How are you feeling Tubolard? I haven't been feeling too well lately but I just keep on.

I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well Carol. What is wrong?? Just general ickiness or something worse?? I hope you get better fast.
I still feel better, (other than the normal stomach issues and muscle aches and my stupid hip) I was supposed to add medicines back in one a week but I haven't added any more back yet. I am kind of scared to. I really don't want to go back to feeling that badly again. Why do always get sick when we are on a good roll with our eating/working out? Sigh.

Low Max Step Aerobics: 31 minutes
Look Better Naked Workout: 15 minutes - this is a new one and I don't know if I can do it. There is a lot of jogging and jumping so far and those motions aggravate my hip pain so we will just have to modify, modify, modify and see if it is doable.

Just general things. Off and on in the last ten years I get a pressure feeling in my head and elsewhere. But I've read it can be caused by anxiety. And I have spent time with doctors and lots of money when they could find nothing. That was about 8 years ago and I am uninsured because of a life long disease, sarcoidosis. I was diagnosed with that at age 28 and I will be 64 tomorrow, Lord willing.

Hi Ladies! I was an avid user of Leslie's videos when I was in graduate school... but I fell off after getting a job. SO this week, I decided to pull myself together and get back on it - starting with the 2 mile brisk walk yesterday. I even joined Weight Watchers -- I forgot how hard it is when you start out!!

Just finished the Advanced Walk 3 miles -- that stretchy band gets me every time.

Does That mean yesterday was your birthday??!! If it was :bday2you: If I misread that, well, just pretend I am singing "A very merry unbirthday to you, to you", lol.
I really am sorry to hear you are having health issues. I have quite a few myself and know how irritating it is to have the doctors tell you they don't know what is going on. For the amount of money I spend going to them I think they should have an answer for everything, unfortunately they don't, grrr. The pressure in your head actually sounds familiar, I tell my husband I think I have a tumor in my brain sometimes because it just feels so ....well odd. Sometimes I swear I feel things moving in there, sigh. But like your doctors, no one knows.
I don't know what sarcoidosis is so I will have to look it up. I hope you get to feeling as good as you possibly can soon.

So I went to the doctor's office today (exactly 1 week since my last visit there) -- I'm down 5lbs from last week's weight on their scale (196 today from 201 last week) but my weight on my home scale yesterday morning was 190. Granted I do weight myself at home first thing in the morning - naked and before drinking anything. I think I'm going to go by my scale since that's the one I have the best access to (I don't go to the doctor that often - usually only twice a year), but I'm a little bit worried that it's giving me false numbers (6lbs is a lot!). Thoughts?

I'm planning on doing 3 mile walk later today. I'm working overnights tonight, so I'm going to work out after my daytime nap in preparation for being up all night.

How's everyone doing today????

No, I've not been anywhere with a high altitude since I was a child. I believe it does take a while to become accustomed to it, though. Are your lungs affected by the sarcoidosis? That wouldn't help if they are. Don't worry about it if you don't get used to it. You can exercise when you get back on solid ground!

hey gang
i did exercise over the weekend but forgot to post it.
this morning I did 2 miles. I used the Heart Healthy Walk dvd. gosh it felt sooooooo good to get it done first thing! :cp:

as y'all know, i've been very inconsistent with my exercise for almost a year now. our 2 sons, age 28 and 24, went to work at the plants (Praise the Lord) and my house has become Grand Central Station in the mornings. I've still been getting up at 5 am, BUT have been making my guys a quick breakfast and helping pack their lunches. and yes I know they are grown men and can do it themselves, but it was just something I wanted to do for them.... they won't be home much longer, they are both MORE than ready to get out on there own.

well I kept thinking I would get my exercise in during lunch or after work and it just doesn't happen consistently. if it I don't do it at 5 am it just doesn't get done. :( So I talked with them yesterday and told them I had to get back to exercising in the mornings and of course they are fine with that. they reminded me that I always have it done for them before they even get up LOL

so my plan is to be here monday thru friday, exercising and posting it here. I have got to do this for me!!!

hope everybody has a great day

Carol - I hope you're feeling better. I'm sorry you had to deal with that while you were out in Colo :(

Cathy - I know exactly what you mean with the consistency issues. If I don't do my work outs at the times I have available during my day, I end up having to force myself to do it way later in the evening (around 10pm & i'm already exhausted by that time) OR I just don't do it at all ...and I don't want that to completely throw me off. It's good to hear you have a plan to stick to mon-fri...im going to try to do the same. You can do this!!!

Kept my work out mild today, all of my muscles are SO sore still and I should have used today as a rest day but I didn't want to feel 'guilty' for not working out.
So my exercise today consisted of:
30-Minute Cardio - by The CafeMom Studios Workout

Carol, I live in Louisiana which is just about below sea level LOL a few years ago we took our 12th graders to Colorado and had a blast. I had never been any place like that before. It was terribly HARD to breathe up there. I cannot even imagine trying to exercise in that altitude unless someone lived there and was use to it. WOW! are you on vacation up there?

Hey friends! I took a few days off. Did the 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk this morning w/ #2 weights AFTER being awakened by a 4.3 earthquake!! It was the fifth one through the night, but the only one that woke me. Crazy!!

Very frustrated with myself as I have been working on losing weight for several weeks and can't seem to drop even one pound!! I'm working on keeping track of calories and adjusting there, but seem to be letting in too much junk still and can't seem to budge!

ataraxia3

Carol - Don't worry, one half mile is better than nothing- right? Give yourself a little bit of time to adjust to being back at home and you'll be back to regular exercise before you know it.

Cathy - I love that dance walk video by her! She really has some awesome work outs on her channel & I love her positive upbeat personality, it definitely helps you get through the work out.

My heart is with all of the victims and their families affected by the incident at the Boston Marathon yesterday :( . It's absolutely heart breaking and mind boggling --- who would do that, and WHY :?: . I know they're still investigating to identify who did this and I hope everyone will get some answers. I will continue to pray for everyone.

Hi Ladies,

I took the weekend off -- my fiance came to visit for the weekend (we're doing this long distance thing until I finish my residency next year). And then yesterday, I was just so physically tired from a crappy day at work and emotionally exhausted from hearing about the tragedy in Boston, that I just couldn't get myself up to walk.

So today, I made up for it some -- Leslie's 2 mile brisk walk and 30 minutes of the Zumba Step-by-Step How to video. I'm trying to get into the Zumba craze -- the how to video alone is a workout!

Carol - did i read that you had altitude sickness? are you feeling better?

 Howdy neighbor, lol. Same kind of weather here, it is so windy right now and tornado watches all around, look out for the hail, on and on.... :fr::bb: (have I mentioned I am TERRIFIED of storms??) Hold me somebody, lol. (not actually joking all the way, lol)

I had to change my ticker up 5 pounds, I just can't seem to get my food under control right now. It actually hurt to have to add those 5 pounds back on there, sigh.
Cardio Sculpt dvd w/ Violet Zaki I think is her name: 45 minutes and the 8 minute bonus abs. I didn't like her cool down (not enough stretching) so i did my own. 53 minutes

Did the first 3 miles of the 4 fast and firm miles with boosted walking.

My Zumba DVD is a pretty good workout. My mom had purchased the Zumba Exhilarate DVD set online awhile back but never used them, so she sent them over to me. I'm just on the first disc now. I'll let you all know when I've got the hang of it and do the real workout. Just learning the steps for now.

Tubo-Hope it is going well in your neck of the woods! We have had a ton of rain here in my part of OK, but tornadoes have been going on south of me. Several, in fact. Still storming all around, but so thankful for the rain!

We missed tornadoes here and the hail thank goodness. Windy but no damage to anything too badly that I know of. I hope our farmland and 5 ponds got drenched too though, it always seems to just miss our little plot, sigh. I told my hubby that I wish I could suck up the water from the ditches and low spots and transport it to our ponds, lol. I guess I could line our truck with plastic, we do have a pump, lol. Do you think we would get in trouble for doing that?? LOL!

P.S. Down one pound, finally. I also adjusted my goal number. I've wrestled with adjusting it up from the original 140. I honestly don't know if I can ever make it there. So I am shooting for 150 for now (which I had originally gotten to about 2.5 yrs ago and where I felt good) and reevaluate then.

Ataraxia3- are you just starting the 30 day shred?

It's been a busy week... non-stop work. Managed to get in 5 workouts though, so I'm trying to stay motivated and persistent.

AnnieDrews - I'm almost done with my 3rd year of residency -- just one more year to go (we use a July to June year).

Took yesterday as a rest day -- just not enough time in the day. Did the beginners Zumba DVD today - 40 minutes. It was kinda hard - mostly because I'm not used to the steps yet. I imagine that it will get easier as I do it more often. I followed it up with Leslie's 1 mile easy walk and the first day of the 30 day squat challenge - 50 squats. Figured I'd try to tone my thighs and butt some and the squat challenge seemed like a way to start.

Hope you all had a good monday!

Carol - Praying for you, I hope you're doing ok
Zeta - I just started the 30 day squat challenge today too! definitely want to tone my behind while i'm losing this weight ;)

Workout for today: 2 miles + 50 squats

I was disappointed when i weighed in this morning (i weigh every Monday)...and saw I have gained 1 pound back. I don't understand why/how. I had one cheat day with chinese food & alcohol, so maybe that had something to do with it. I have no idea. I've been working out so hard so it doesn't make sense to me. But i'm not going to let this discourage me. Just gotta keep going....hoping this week i'll find better results.

Hey gang! Got in 2 miles from the 5 Mile Fat Burning this morning.

Heading to a root canal doc today for either a root canal or to be told I'm having that tooth pulled. Honestly, I don't know which option would be better/worse. I am just so tired of this mess and all the $$$ it is costing me.:(

cathyxxx
04-30-2013, 12:20 PM
Annie - I'm so sorry. you sound like me in 2011. i had one root canal after the other. actually i had 3 done in the month of December. it is miserable to have tooth problems. and oh my goodness it's expensive! :( I hope they can fix you up easily!

Even tho I didn't sleep last nite (too much on my mind I guess) I did 2 miles this morning. I used the Power Walk with Friends and used 2 lb weights. then when I got to work and everybody left, I did 30 reps of arm exercises with 3 lb weights. the last of reps was kinda H A R D LOL
these are the ones I'm doing

y'all might remember that i was having trouble with my right wrist. I have been fighting tendonitis for a year. did all I knew to do. finally got a cortizone shot a few weeks ago and it is better. now I'm trying to strengthen it while it's not killing me ;)
