Back to re-starting my diet, as in the past six month gained a lot of the weight I had lost :( My objective for this month is 5 kilos (11 pounds).

Starting weight is 102.8 kilos. Objective is 97.8 kilos.

It's kind of funny to see my weight loss goal for a month being lower than what a lot of you ladies are losing in a week. I lose sooooo slow. It gets pretty frustrating sometimes, but I try to keep positive & just remember that movement down on the scale is my real goal.

Well, I was close. The last week has been rough. There's been a huge weather change (it was in the 70s and beautiful yesterday, and now it's SNOWING AGAIN WTF WHY DO I LIVE HERE ITS MAY 1ST). I've been running a lot lately, which usually makes me gain a tiny bit of weight/stay the same. But I know that the weight will start to come off again soon. I'm still feeling great, but only a tiny tinge of disappointment.... :) Oh well, keep on truckin

So frustrated! Was PERFECT the last two days, working out 45 mins each day and only eating 1200 calories and I GAINED a pound! I wrote down everything I ate (because I know when I don't I tend to eat little bits here and there that add up to a lot) and my workout, so I know for sure that I did everything I was supposed to. I have definitely found that now that I'm passed 40 it is much harder to lose weight. Any suggestions?

RVA, you're smart to set your goal to something achievable -- I know that when I set unreasonably high targets for myself I get derailed when I don't meet them (even when I know starting out it isn't likely. 6lbs is a very respectable loss in a single month.

Bethann, it's most likely a natural fluctuation. I know that I can go up and down by 3lbs in a single day depending on when I weigh. If you stick to the plan then you'll definitely start to see results.

Bethann, I agree with Crow. Two days of perfection won't over-ride a natural fluctuation if you were unlucky enough to hit it at the wrong point. The scale, unfortunately, measures so much more than fat loss -- water retention, bathroom issues, monthly cycles. Drink lots of water and give this more time to work.

I'd like to join a little late as well. My weight hasn't gone down since the start of the month so as of now SW and CW are the same anyway, 179.3 After losing 1.5 pounds/week pretty consistently since November I've finally started to see my weight loss slow down which sucks. I've started exercising more though, and can't wait to measure myself next week!! After all that my goal is 174 or 5.3 pounds.

My weight has been going down and then coming back up again for over a week now. I'm trying not to be concerned about it because I've stayed under my calorie goal, TOM came on Wednesday, and I've started more intense workouts. I've definitely noticed that I look and feel stronger. My loose skin has tightened up some, so maybe this holding pattern is a good thing for now.

immaculate - I'm going through something similar, just now. It's kind of disheartening from one angle, but from another angle, the "holding pattern" is like a sign that my body is trying to figure out how to move forward with my new active lifestyle. At least, that's how I try to look at it...

RVA - I'm actually really happy with the changes that are happening to my body. I think I was just spoiled by my first two months of weight loss because I was steadily losing about 2.5 pounds per week up until a couple of weeks ago. You're right though. I've made a lot of changes to my lifestyle, so my body probably needs time to adjust.

Well, I lost the two pounds I had gained back, and the weird thing is, is that I actually upped my calories by 300-400 calories. Yesterday and today I've had a migraine, so no workouts (except some light weight lifting last night). Hopefully will be gone tomorrow so I can get in some cardio.

I didn't have a very good food day yesterday. When I weighed this morning I was still 230. The scale just doesn't want to move. I need to jump start my body. It doesn't help right now that I can't do all that much walking..I have a fractured ankle. It is a very big bummer.
Any jump starting suggestions?

I had my "official" weigh in at my Medifast consultation meeting this morning. My official weight according to their super fancy scale is 254.9 - a bit higher than my unofficial 253.4 first thing this morning before eating, drinking, or dressing :o

If it is not too late, I would like to join this challenge. I am trying to be very realistic about my goals for myself because so far my weight loss has fluctuated greatly each week since I have started. I will lose 3 lbs one week and then gain .4 lbs another. Very frustrating!!
I get weighed in at WW on Thursday's so I will check in then each week.

Wow, the weight was just melting off as I was busy getting ready for family flying in. Now I am afraid to weigh with all the food and wine. So I will wait until they leave. But the good news is that I tried on a pair of slacks size 20 that were tight before they came and I am wearing them to church today :)

gracie, wouldn't it be nice if the scale would just go down according the the exercise and food you had the day before!? Unfortunately, our bodies seem to be a little more complicated than that--- definitely less linear! Boo. But don't worry, a little fluctuation is good, and if you stick it out, it will begin to fluctuate at lower and lower numbers!
fe2493: OH NO! How did you fracture your foot?? My boyfriend had this happen last summer (it got SLAMMED by a heavy dude wearing baseball kleets) and he's had a hard time getting exercise as well. One thing I might recommend though is doing exercise off your feet that strengthen your core and upper body. a lot of simple weight lifting things can be done sitting down, or even doing thing standing and using your own body weight. I just did some of these yesterday because my hip flexors are lame and weak. Let me know if you want me to share, I may be able to find the youtube links to the workouts.

As for me, today is exciting because I hit 147! That's the official 20 lbs marker! I've been shifting between 150-148 recently, so 147 seems a little more securely AWAY from 150. I am very happy to see that number today! I'm hoping to get down to 144 by the end of the month... so there's still some work to go, but I'm slooooowly getting there!

OM- Thank you for your suggestions.. I have been thinking that I should go to the gym and just do some of the resistance training. It is hard to not have a steady routine.. I hurt my ankle running on the rotating stairs and something happened.. It has been weeks of pain and I finally got it checked out. Blah!
Congrats on your 20lb bench mark! Thats huge!


I seem to be stuck.. I am going to up my protein this week and try and limit my carbs and sugar. Hopefully this will help!

I've been struggling with whether or not to check-in with my weight today, but have decided not to. It's my wedding week (Saturday - gulp!), and I'm thinking that I won't see the number that I want to see, which could just send me into a tailspin of unnecessary panic. So, yeah.

As for the rest of y'all, I am impressed with all of the effort that everyone's putting into their goals, and hope you keep it up! It pays off. Good work!

Fe2493 - Yes. Yes, sometimes the scale is "stuck" for me. I try not to worry too much about it (the whole "keep calm and carry on" thing). Also, I use measuring tape to check my other numbers. Usually that makes me feel better!

Fe2493: The scale got stuck for me about every 20 pounds or so on the way down. Since I'm easily bored, I often used that as an excuse to learn about and try a new plan. But I also think that my body needed the resting points.

Howdy all!

RVA congratulations! Enjoy the week & don't even look at the scale.

Bethann You and I joined 3FC about the same time & our starting weights were pretty close. I've never had really big weight losses & have dealt with a lot of fluctuations on the scale. But I've stuck with it & am now almost 25 pounds down. Stick with it. It's the most important thing. You didn't put on the weight overnight & you're not going to lose it overnight either.

What I've discovered works the best for me is simply I can't live off of 1,200 calories per day. I would quit. So, I aim to eat between 1,800-2,000 calories & burn 2,200 or more per day. I can live with that. Is my weight loss slow? Heck yes! Does it at time discourage me when I see people on here dropping 2-4 pounds a week & I only lose 1 or 2 pounds a month? Heck yes! But I'm losing in a way that I can stick with.

I know it's hard, but STICK WITH IT! You can do it!

I've been hiding from the weight loss challenges I'm currently in because I had a terrible weekend. I was out with a small group of friends for the entire weekend, all of whom like to drink, something I've tried to avoid as I have no willpower! And because I have none, I drank. We were also in a big city that was full of delicious western food so of course all of our meals were eaten at restaurants that we can't find in our tiny tiny town. All of this meant I was up 2 pounds over the weekend, which is not terrible, but it's Thursday and I'm still up a pound. I also saw my weight loss slow down the previous 2 weeks so I currently weigh more then I did 2 weeks ago. It sucks, but this is me recommitting to these challenges, even though I'm up a bit. I know I won't make my goal, but as long as I loss something I'm happy.

Good job getting back to it, Changergirl! That was the entire difference between this successful weight loss journey and my previous attempts. Before, I gave up way too easily. This time, I still went off the track now and then, but I always clawed my way back to it. I still go off the track now and then (there's nothing magic about reaching goal weight that keeps that from happening, sigh), but I still keep clawing my way back.

been a rough month for me.. haven't been eating the healthiest.. so i been worried to step on the scale.. so I am eatting healthier the past few days so I will weigh in probably saturday or sunday morning. hopefully I haven't gained to much..

I work at an elementary school and one part of my job is taking some special needs kids to PE. This week we're doing orienteering (getting a map and finding things). The problem is is that it's been raining all week, so we've been doing it inside. Our school is extremely spread out, so I walked approximately 5,000 steps more than usual (which is 11,000) while at work! And will be doing this again tomorrow, so if that doesn't help me drop one pound I'm not sure what will!

Thanks for all the encouragement! Sometimes I just need to realize how far I've come and how long it's taken. One weekend won't make a big difference in the long run. The happy news is I've finally lost all my weekend weight and almost (.2 lbs) where I was 2 weeks ago. I can't wait to finally see 178!

Wow! Great jobs ladies! So many of you are already so close to goal!

I'm up 1.5 pounds from where I was last weekend, but since TOM is supposed to visit this weekend I'm not sweating it. Too much. LOL Thankfully it's coming down from where it was on Monday. I hate seeing the scale read over 170 when it took forever to get below that mark! It's probably how I will feel once I get below the 160s too. I was in the 170s for 6 months before finally clawing my way out of them. I'm hoping to get out of the 160s much quicker!

Well, I was wrong. Seems like whenever I do more exercise I gain weight. I gained 2 lbs yesterday. I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I watch what I eat by writing down EVERYTHING I eat, and do at least 10,000 steps per day, plus do 3 other cardio and 3 other weight workouts per week. I look back at my old diet journals and doing these things guaranteed me weight loss of about 2 lbs. per week. Now I gain and lose the same 5 lbs every week, but never dropping below 190. I'm beginning to wonder if there really is something wrong with my metabolism. How long do I keep going before checking with my doctor? I've been carefully following diet and workouts for about 6 weeks now and it is just so frustrating, but I don't want to be one of those people that blames their weight issues on nonexistent medical problems. For background, I've never been skinny, but on average, from my 20's through my late 30's, I weighed about 155-160. About 3 years ago, I packed on 35 lbs. in one year. I tried every possible diet and workout around, including p90x, Firm Express, Turbo Jam, high protein, 40-30-30....and many, many more. Was I perfect through all of them all the time? No. But have never gone on binges, eating whatever I want for days on end, or stopped working out for more than a week (usually due to migraines). I am so uncomfortable at the size I am now, and will not be happy until I'm back to a healthy weight.

Okay, I feel better. Thanks for letting me vent. On to lift some weights.

Bethann, maybe it's time to see your doc just to rule out some medical issues. A friend of mine had a similar problem, weight piled on and wouldn't move, plus she was really tired all the time. Turned out she had a thyroid condition and meds made a new woman of her.

That might not be the issue with you, but no harm in having bloods done to rule out a range of issues.

bethann1970: I'd say, why not go to the doctor? If nothing's wrong, great! Maybe s/he could refer you to a dietitian who has training in what the hidden faults are when everything looks fine on paper.

I use a $10 Sportline pedometer from Walmart. If I'm wearing certain pants that sit close to my leg, I wear it in my pocket. Otherwise, and I know this sound funny, but it's accurate, is in my bra. That way it's in direct contact with my body. I actually had one of our gym teacher's check the accuracy and it is right on. The clip on ones just do not give accurate info.

I have tried everything imaginable, from crazy hard things like p90x (which aggravated my migraines), jogging, yoga, and simple walking. As I said in the other post, there's not much I haven't tried. If you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them!

I just finished week 2 of Medifast. The first couple weeks see large (5-10 lb) losses, followed by 1-2 pounds per week thereafter.

Well,

I work out everyday.. except sunday.. yes EVERY DAY.. (ugh its exhausting.. )
I drink TONS of water.. I ALWAYS have breakfast.. I haven't had ANY fried food except for a few bites of sesame chicken that I stole from my boyfriend.. i have 1 banana every day.. i am TRYING to start drinking almond milk (i find it nasty but i know its healthier)

and thats about it

I finally broke through! Down to 188! Not sure what I did differently, other than not eating a big dinner like I usually do. I eat a little in the morning, then a little more at lunch, and then a big dinner. That's how I've always done it (learned it from my mother I guess). Guess maybe I'll need to reverse it and see how that goes. Thanks for all the supportive messages!

Sigh, I have had a couple ridiculously stressful weeks, as well as being in my time of the month, which means I have ballooned :( On the other hand, I have now gotten an appointment with a nutritionist for this coming Wednesday, so I can get a diet according to my needs :3 I will be updating my new objective and weight on Wednesday, after my appointment.

immaculate - No worries if you don't make your goal this month (although, we are still two weeks away from the finish line) - you lost 3.2 pounds! That's great! :)

bethann - I've been catching up on your frustrations, and think that you should talk to your doctor, just to rule it out. I found out that I have a thyroid problem a few years back. They are still fiddling with adjusting my medication, because they can't believe how low it is! There are a number of medical causes for difficulty losing weight - it's worth checking into.

Hey, things happen! Just get back on the wagon-- sometimes we do add some weight in the small picture of a week or two, but the more important thing is the bigger picture of the general downward pattern! So. Keep at it! We all experience these things!
As for me, I went through a kind of oopsy a few days ago. I'm happy to report that my time of the month has since ended, and I've been running the last two days AND back on the wagon food-wise (I had a delicious HIGH FAT icecream shake... so good, but threw me off). And an exciting announcement, at least for me....
DUN DUH DUHHH! I've made my second mini-goal today! Well, given that my first one was to 'just lose ANY weight.' So really, it's my first real mini-goal?? Either way, it feels good, I feel healthy, and, though there's been some bumps along the way, I've gotten back on track relatively well. Finally! I have to tell you guys, I honestly thought there was something wrong with me-- that I could never lose weight. I thought about going to the doctor and asking wtf my problem was, but I was too embarrassed. I've never been severely overweight, but I just didn't understand why or how my body seemed to 'want to be' the size it was. I was totally baffled and frustrated and sad. BUT! Since changing my whole lifestyle, becoming more positive and confident about myself, exercising daily... I just feel like a new me already, and the process is only going to continue! I joined 3FC after losing a few pounds, but you all really have been so great and supportive. Getting your support and comments helps just as much as giving them back. Overall, this place is great, and today is so exciting for me! Keep it up, all you sexy thangs! Work it!

Teacher2B- I am in the same place as you are... I have gained weight this month. I consciously have not made good food choices. I am now refocusing and reminding myself why I eat healthfully.
I am also editing my goal to any loss is better than none at all. I have been struggling so much that honestly I would be happy with one or two pounds!

Ugh, I'm with you Teacher2b & Fe2493. I was doing ok & then TOM hit & I jumped up 6 pounds. The first 3 dropped in two days, but the last three have been slow in coming back off. So currently I'm 1.6 pounds higher than I started the month. It's really frustrating because my eating has been really close to my target & I've been getting my exercise in.

I really hate TOM.

Well I weighed myself yesterday and was astonished that I had dropped 4 lbs! So I stepped on it twice just to make sure. And then a third time. It was still the same. So I was totally psyched!
Then today, I thought...that just seems to good to be true, so I stepped on it again. It was noon when I did, and yesterday it was in the morning. But today it was 3 lbs heavier....*ugh*

I thought maybe it was just because it was later in the day. I'm not getting back on that thing until the end of the month though!
I really fell off the wagon the past few weeks too. I was over my calorie limits by about 200-300 almost every night.
But I'm going back in full force!

Started this goal at 261, wanting to be 255 by May. This morning I was 256.6! 1 1/2 pounds to go. I have been hovering around 260 for a while so I had to re-check my scale when I saw 256 LOL Here's hoping it wasn't a fluke and the weight keeps on moving down!

I still haven't done more than 120 minutes. Last week was a bit troublesome, with me having a bad IBS attack that made my blood pressure drop and almost faint in the toilets at school, so the next day (where I had one of the gym classes) I decided it was better not to go, and on Saturday, I could just not get up on time :( (way too sleepy). Will try to do better this week.
