It's starting to look like spring where I live -- a great time for ramping up our exercise goals!

This is our monthly exercise challenge thread. All are welcome, whether your goal is to walk ten minutes a day or train for a marathon.

State your goal and track it throughout the month with a supportive group encouraging each other to meet our goals. We'll compile our exercise goals into a list. As each goal is met during the month, it gets turned RED in celebration.

I'm tied up evenings for a full week doing a musical, and I am signed up for two 5K races in April, so I am going to shorten this month's goal. My goal in April is to run 24 miles.

My goal is pathetic compared to all of you, but as of right now I don't formally exercise at all. I want to start slow and steady, trying to build good and regular habits.

My goal is to exercise three times a week, a total of 60 minutes per week. By the end of April I want to have 250 minutes of exercise under my belt.

I can do this!

@Crow: I will be having a small goal :) It's better to start slow!

My objective is also small, but I plan to increase it for next month. As of this month (after 4 months or so of inactivity), I want to exercise twice a week, 60 minutes each time, reaching 480 minutes by the end of April. I will be trying to go for three times a week every time I can, though.

I'm in. I have just started a start exercising again routine.

My goals are to run (C25K) 13x, Pedal (40min) 8x, Abs & Arms 9x, Legs & Butt 9x.

Can I join in? Am in week 31 of exercising, lost the weight without exercise, and am maintaining with exercise. My goal is 3 times per week for an hour each time. When I'm on vacation I like to exercise every day, but can't manage it once back at work.

Back again after a looong plateau and scale is starting drop again so I need the motivation to continue my journey. I have never stuck very long to exercise so I will go for doing a exercise video 3 times a week.

Apr 01 - Extreme Makeover "The Workout"
Let's add 45 mins of fast housework before work and before family arrives on Wednesday. Wheww!!
That was harder than the workout DVD lol

So busy running with family. No time with family here, but am wearing slacks that were tight and now they are loose. :)

Happy April, everyone! My Birthday is April 30th, I want to end this month with a blast!

Last month I joined in late, and I was trying to walk my dogs 4 mornings a week, or walk on my treadmill, this month I am going to try things alittle differently.

My Goal this month is going to be very similiar to @Katie
Walk my dogs atleast 3x a week, (weekends included)
Complete atleast 100miles on treadmill/walking/biking/whatever, etc.
and do some kind of work out atleast 4 days of the week, either before or after work.

My plan is to try to walk in the morning atleast 4 days a week and still go to the gym like I usually do atleast 2 to 3x a week, too. I always do something after work, whether it's walking the dogs, or on my treadmill, or the gym.

Bring it on April!

I'm amending my goal to allow for some flexibility but still maintain my goal of increasing my running mileage. With that stated, my new goal is 1300 minutes that includes 10 runs.

Natalia - I really enjoyed exercise videos as a way to build my stamina and exercise routine. My very favorite ones feature Michelle Dozois (cardio with strength training): her "Your Body Breakthru" series is awesome, and "Shape Bikini Body Redefining Workout". The Shape one is easier to start with, but still works you hard. I lost about fifteen pounds just doing that workout 4x / week. Walking is also effective!

Im torn today, not sure if I should just go for a nice long walk with my dogs, or if I should push myself on my treadmill again tonight.. last night I did 3miles in 43 minutes, I am not a runner, so I was proud of myself. I think I may just walk my pups tonight.. maybe still aim for 3 miles, though. [: It will just take me a little longer.

Ooof! I've been dealing with a really sore right ankle the last few days. I broke it severely years ago in a car accident. Now I call it my weather ankle HA! Sometimes it acts up and sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it's weather related and other times not. We've had a stretch of unsettled weather lately--rainy, sunny, cloudy, and wow is my ankle feeling it all. So for today...

April 3: 1.5 mile walk 25 minutes 1300/25/1275

I won't be able to make my goal this week, due to sickness, but I will be going to a sort of pilate-ish class on Saturday, and if I am not coughing too much (have been coughing for a week now), I will also use the machines.

Took a break on Wednesday.

Forgot to post yesterday but managed 30 mins stepper and 30 mins elliptical. I then cleaned my room- it took 5 hours and a lot of effort ! :)
Today I just went for it on the stepper- 1hr and 20 mins for a machine total of 1000 calories :carrot:

I am having issues in April already. My ankle is all bruised and hurts really really bad, luckily I work at an orthopedic office as a medical assistant, so I am going to have my doctor look at it, I am just going to be so bummed if it means that I need to slow down on walking & running. I don't want to stop losing weight, I am 8lbs down today!

I am 4lbs away from my mini goal.

Anyways, as far as my april goals so far..

April 1st - Bad congestion in head, took a rest day.
April 2nd - I did a total of 4.5 miles, with 95.5 to go.
April 3rd - I did a walk with my dogs, 1.5 miles, leaving me with 94more to go.
April 4th - I ran on my treadmill for 1mile, and walked the dogs for 2.5 miles, so I have 90.5 to go.

Goals : Walk my dogs 3x a week. 2x so far
Workout 4x a week before or after work. 3 days so far.
Walk/bike 100 miles. 9.5 done, 90.5 to go

What's kind of awesome about starting up jogging again is that every weekday morning, the same lady is in my building's gym, hustling it on the other treadmill. We say "good morning," which is kind of nice. It's like being acknowledged for doing my morning workout!

I've been super-worn out the last couple of days doing both jogging AND kettlebells, but that's how it is at first, when you decide to up your game.

You're right gardenerjoy, there is a lot of month left to recover and get active. Since starting to lose weight around 4 years ago this is the first time (December-present) I've had to "fight" my body. If it isn't the flu or or congestion, it's a tweaked back muscle or wonky ankle. I should consider myself blessed and fortunate that thankfully these issues present minor set backs and nothing more. Instead I go into big baby mode :tantrum: Instead of appreciating every effort my attitude seems to go to "well, if I can't run, what's the point of walking". It's a bad head space and serves no purpose. When clarity emerges (and it eventually does) I think about elite athletes, and the continuous rigor they put their bodies through, but always knowing how to adapt and collaborate with it instead of regarding it as the enemy. I also think about folks on this site and in general who are battling far greater challenges and wish it was just a sore ankle or stomach virus keeping them down.

Here's to keep things in perspective and a good April for us all.

Um... so I have to withdraw myself from this month's challenge, and I'm incredibly bummed about this, but for the next two weeks I'm not allowed to do anything because of my ankle. I need to "lay low".. in 2 weeks I can then start on the bicycle, but no treadmill. I'm super bummed about this, like really really bummed about this. I don't want to gain any of the weight back, I am obviously going to keep making sure I eat good, but it just sucks! :( I'm bummed.. and hurting! I can't wait to go get my ibuprofen and ice this bad larry. :(

So, I totally DID not end up doing the 35 minutes of kettlebells yesterday, like I typed that I would/did. I was so sure that we were going to workout in the evening, that I typed it in prematurely. Unfortunately, shopping and getting ready for our wedding next Saturday took all of the wind out of our sails.

So far, I've jogged 10.5/40 miles on the treadmill and completed 95/400 kettlebell minutes toward this month's goal. This week will be tough, since we're so busy getting ready, but I'm determined to stay on track!

Savemykissesx: so sorry for your ankle. Hang in there and be sure to get right back to us when you can! Would it hurt anything if you sat up straight and did some air punches? That's a good way to boost the cardio and release a bit of frustration at the same time.

I won't be making my April exercise goal. I had a bad start to the week, car problems, meaning my commute was 2 hours longer than normal for the first 3 days, as well as a bad gain over the weekend. Both caused me to be emotionally and physically exhausted so I decided to take the week off from exercising. Not the greatest decision, but it means I have 2 more rest days, which I'm really looking forward to and I'll restart this weekend.

gardenerjoy- thanks for letting me change my goals, I definitely don't want to make this a habit. Also I wish I could blame my stress on my location but I think the most stressful thing about being here is trying to convince my mom that it's safe!!!

I was planning to go on Saturday, but the class I went on Friday left me extremely achy, as it was super intense. Will try to go twice this week. Hi all, long time no see. :) I had a baby in January (I'll be 12 weeks PP on Wednesday), and definitely have quite a bit of weight still to lose and am REALLY out of shape! I'm nursing exclusively and so having trouble getting time to myself when I can exercise, but I start back to work this week and I'm hoping to develop some kind of routine where I can schedule some exercise a few times each week. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and mention that I hope to be joining you in a couple weeks for the May challenge. :) Hope everyone is well!

Way to go, aniela26! Pink Hurricane - I am SO impressed that you are doing Insanity workouts! I tried P90X, and got seriously burned out. I've heard that Insanity is even harder. :/

Just a quick check-in. So far I've exercised 915 minutes out of my 1400 minute goal. I'm pretty much right on track to make my exercise goal! Weight loss, on the other hand, has slowed down dramatically. I'm feeling and looking stronger, so I'm not complaining! As long as I'm getting healthier, I'll let the weight come off when it's ready.

I am excited; I am 2 weight lifting workouts short of my goal for the month; I will totally get there! AND I have already surpassed my higest walking goal for the month! I wanted to walk 16-20 times this month, I have walked 21 times and we still have 5 days left. :woohoo:

145/150 (1400 minute goal met) with 5 minutes to spare!!!

Wow, April is over already!

I met two of my three goals.

I exercised 25 out of 30 days this month and I walked/biked/ran more that 150 miles (221 to be exact!) My third goal was to walk my dog three times a week but alas, I did not. In my defense, it was FREEZING (and still is) here in Jersey. Next month will be better.
