Default Self-Comforting Ideas?

As I mentioned in a previous thread today, I no longer no how to self-soothe. I used to do it with food. Well, obviously that is not really an option anymore. Not to mention, that was usually an unhealthy habit.

I'm sad to admit that I have yet to find anything as calming and comforting as food. :: sigh :: I know that a lot of it has to do with chemical reactions and such- and I even have dopa muca which I can take, but I don't look forward to that.

What have you found that you really look forward to? What brings you comfort and excitement? what soothes your soul?

I'll give it a try!

A good book, candles, music and a bubble bath. Also I know it's not "ideal" but I've been known to still use food but I find something like yogurt or fruit very soothing even before making the change. I just don't use chocolate, candy and fried stuff anymore.

It's not necessarily super healthy but I watch old Friends and West Wing episodes. They are two of my favorite tv shows.

Have you thought about learning to play an instrument? Also, I've heard of people taking up crochet or knitting. It's hard to do any of these with sticky hands -- keeps you out of mindless snacking. I second the bubble baths, too!
