MFP question - going over on sugar?
Hi guys! I have noticed lately that I keep being over on my sugar allowance on MFP (although under on carbs and close to perfect on total calories). Most of the sugar I consume isn't from junk - it's from milk, bananas, peanut butter, adding honey to greek yoghurt, etc. I am wondering whether I should be worried about this? I mean, I have the occasional piece of chocolate but that's definitely not what's throwing off my count!

I've noticed this too, I'm often over on sugar by about 20g but under on everything else. The culprit always seems to be the pear that I have at lunch as well!
I tried researching daily guidelines for sugar allowances but they seem to vary wildly. I figure that as long as the sugars are from healthy sources it shouldn't be too much of a problem, I'd be more worried about eating lots of sugars from empty-calorie foods.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem! It has been making me feel really disheartened!

My understanding is that it's more of a concern with "added sugars" in the diet... at least if you listen to Dr. Lustig and his presentations like "Sugar... The Bitter Truth" and there doesn't seem to be much concern about the sugars found naturally in milk, fruits, and vegetables... But if you're on a low carb plan that has specific carb targets than it might be of some concern to you...
Personally I concern myself with the things in my diet that always seem to have "added" sugars... which for me tend to be store bought prepared items like various condiments and salad dressings and I've been working to limit those... but I'm not overly concerned with a few grams of lactose in the little bit of dairy that I consume or the fructose for that matter in the whole fresh fruit that I eat... I just don't see any real problem there...
And as far as daily recommendations... from what I've seen is that they are for "added sugars" in one's diet... and the one's that I've seen are for between 15 and 25 grams of "added sugars" a day...

Thank you, TripSwitch! That makes a lot of sense to me. I am definitely not at that level of added sugars most days... just over on what MFP things is my sugar limit with natural sugars. I have been losing and the stuff I'm eating seems to be working well for me, so I'll just keep watching what I'm eating.

I get this too, and I'm not eating junk either! Mainly whole foods with a few chocolates here and there (or on a bad day, everywhere). I find that I'm fine, and if you get crazy heartburn and "false" hunger (the kind you can feel above your waist, very sharp and aggressive) then you've gone too far!

Ahhhh, new responses! I've been off the grid b/c I've been working in another city. I'm still struggling to stay under my sugar allowance, though...

I looked this up on a MFP forum, I go over on sugar a lot because I eat so much fruit. Everyone seems to be having the same problem, and I don't think it's something to worry about.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having this problem. A small apple and the milk on my oatmeal push me over every day.
