Default First results + Very depressed

This is a bit embarrassing and stupid.

I started going to the gym and hired a PT in January 2013 because I was clearly overweight. I'm 36 y.o., 1,74m tall and weighed 81 kgs (178.6 lbs) back then.

I thought I had lost 7 kgs in the past 2 months and was really happy about it. It seems, however, that the scale I was using was broken! I actually weigh 77 kgs (169 lbs) right now and not 74 kgs (163 lbs).

My PT told me I lost 5% body fat and according to her that was a good progress but I'm very disappointed. I worked so hard these past months, I wanted more.

Maybe I should start taking Xenical? I'm a bit scared of side effects, though.

I don't know anything about Xenical, but I think you should listen to your PT. You are making good progress.

I think the scale plays with your head especially when you are just getting started. My digital scale would weigh me something different every time I stepped on it. I invested in a real balance scale, and now I don't even think about it. I do weigh almost daily, but I don't obsess. Some how, in my mind, there is nothing to argue about with a balance scale

Thank you so much, Gailr42.

I'm so angry right now, I don't know what else to do to improve my progress. It's so unfair after all this effort: I work out almost every day, my diet is ok (healthy breakfast, no junk food, zero sodas, no chips or sweets) but maybe I still need to improve it.

I guess my stressful profession (I'm a teacher) doesn't help either.

When I decided to loose the weight to get back to my old self - that was almost 80 lbs worth - I started working out 5-6x a week. At first, I thought exercising would boost weight loss. Instead I gained despite eating 1500 cal/day. It took me almost 4 months before the weight on the scale started to move down, but I already lost at least one clothes size because my volume was reduced (I guess that means gain of muscle). It is now 16 months later and I can see a 6-pack emerging. I still have 30 o so ounds to loose, but continuing to work out whatever the scale was saying definitely paid off. Weight is one thing, but definition in your arms and abs is priceless.

4kg in two months is a great rate of weight loss! That's about a pound a week, which is an excellent speed to lose at, and faster than many people here. I lost steadily at 1lb/week all the way through my weight loss journey, and it worked very nicely for me. Don't make yourself feel bad, that won't be constructive. Celebrate what you've achieved instead.

Bummer about the inaccurate scale, mind you. I can see how you'd have been excited to think you'd lost that much and then disappointed that you hadn't. Do you have reliable scales now, so that you won't go through that again?

Thanks for your support, guys! Yes, I now have a digital scale that is very accurate. And yes, changes are visible and my abs are starting to show but I guess I'm a bit impatient. I don't know what else to do.

That's a pain about the inaccurate scale but you have a great attitude & are making great progress. Congratulations!

I don't know what Xenecal is, but no, I don't think you should take anything. You say you don't know what else to do... You don't need to do anything else!! You are doing great!! So my advice is to relax and keep up the excellent work! Isn't that what you would tell one of your students?
