When someone says the word "march," I don't know about you all, but I think of several things: The month. A uniformed high school band with a huge drum. The family in "Little Women." And very persistent birds walking upright across frozen fields.

Friday, March 1st:

30 minutes Stairmaster stepmill, resistance at nine, random intervals, and this was like punishment today
60 minutes back & biceps routine
30 minutes back on the Stairmaster, which is usually easier on the second bout -- but this time, it wasn't.

Look, I did it. It wasn't pretty today, and I didn't want to, but I did it.

Hiking with a woman who runs a weight loss support group. I am one of her "wellness experts". We were going over the subject of the talk she wants me to give this month on eating your vegetables. I had to stop and laugh out loud at how much my life has changed. Former almost-couch potato who loved her candy and junk food, now an "expert" on activity and eating well!

Marching is much better than waddling a la the penguins. :lol: Although if I remember the documentary correctly the emperor penguin males don't eat at all while babysitting their chicks - for months! They must all be really skinny by the end of that - no waddling due to corpulence there.

March 1st: 1.65 mile run
March 2nd: 1 mile run & 90 minute Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga class

I've set a goal to run at least one mile a day in March. I have a 5 mile race booked in two weeks and on Sundays I usually run at least 3. The weekends will be easy, it's during the week I'll have to really really work on it, but if it was going to be easy I wouldn't have to set the goal :)

March 2: 70 minutes Spin class-- the computer on my bike was wildly inaccurate and I quickly realized it was saying I was burning more calories, going faster, etc. than I actually was. I started having fun with it to see how high I could get everything to go. According to the computer, I went over 40 miles and burned over 1700 calories. Don't I wish!?:carrot:

I was at my conference and used their extremely nice fitness room. It was my first time using an elliptical and I had a really hard time with it. The movement felt very unnatural - wonder if I was doing something wrong?

Jen, I'm thinking way back to when I first got on an elliptical. As I recall, my feet used to get numb till I figured out how to keep my weight in my heels consistently. Also I switch the motion between peddling backward and forward. Ellipticals vary so much by model, make & manufacturer that I find it hard to compare my workouts on them unless I'm on an identical model. The elliptical is my friend. I've got various wear & tear issues with legs and feet, due simply to aging and the way carrying weight for years affected my joints before I lost the weight, so my running days are pretty much over. I'm dependent on machines for cardio unless I want to cope with spending half my time recovering from constant injuries.

My feet didn't get numb, but I definitely found myself leaning forward on the balls of my feet. Also my legs didn't straighten all the way - which I think it is how it is supposed to work?? Just very weird for me, maybe because I am so used to running and lifting my feet up....?

I always wonder what I look like in yoga so I'm eager to see the video and pics. If I don't look like too much of a fool, I'll post the website here....:o

15 minute warmup on elliptical, intervals at 10 and 6, just a warmup
30 minute training session with deadlifts, bent-over barbell rows, pullups and dips, and pushups. Few reps, mostly watching my form. He's written up a short daily or near-daily bodyweight routine for me, which I'll use from here out.
60 minutes arc trainer, intervals, resistance at 10, and this was not difficult, maybe because my legs were warmed up from weights

I'm pretty sure that the workout led me through more than 5 rounds of each set of exercises - the time didn't add up right, it came to 19:00 total. Also, did some of the elliptical backwards. Saef, I'm not sure how you did 45 minutes all backwards.

60 minutes back & biceps routine

This workout took forever to complete as lots of people were hanging out at the gym on their day off and I found myself talking with them.

March 24: gym on the cruise: 30 min elliptical, 15 minutes treadmill intervals, 15 minutes weights

March 25: gym on the cruise: 30 min elliptical, 15 minutes mostly running on treadmill

March 26: approx 60 min snorkeling in Roatan, Honduras

March 27: Ziplining and Cave Tubing in Belize-- not sure how to count this but much of it was fairly strenuous

March 28: approx 90 minutes snorkeling in Cozumel plus extra swimming, water trampoline, etc.

March 29: back to the gym on the cruise-- 30 minutes elliptical, 15 minutes weights

March 30: no real exercise-- off the boat and in Houston for the day

March 31; flew back home. Made it to Bikram Yoga in the afternoon-- 95 minutes.
