Hello! I was just curious about how much you lose each week. Do you jump around week to week or do you stay within a certain range. I've found that I'm now losing 2lbs each week when before I was losing 3-4. :)

The first time I was on IP, I averaged 3-4 pounds per week (until I hit the 180s). After I hit the 180s, I averaged 2-3 pounds per week. I imagine when I get to the 150s, it will be more like 2 pounds/week, which is fine with me :)

Weeks 4-5 have been a strange stall/re-set for me, and I admit, I got frustrated and began having more snacks throughout the day...which didn't help my stall. However, I am back on track now and looking forward to 2-4 pounds/week. Every body is different, so it's hard to compare.

I'm losing 2lbs per week steady but I'm nursing a 4 month old every hour (and that includes overnight)! :D

Mine are in my signature. My average is about 3.8-4 lbs a week (although I'm sure it will slow down sooner or later).

Hi Sasha,

Are you doing IP while breastfeeding? Thats great that you can do that....My coach told me not to start Ip until I was done brestfeeding.....all coaches are different I guess.

Funny you mention the 180s- that's where I am, and it seemed to of slowed which makes since. I'm still enjoying the /lbs but of course would like more too. ;)

My WIs are in my sig.
This is week 29. I'm still averaging over 2 lbs/week (2.31)
I have developed hypothyroid WHILE being on IP and I'm still showing these losses. No.other.diet.ever!

I'm losing right around 2 lbs per week. I've got a feeling it's going to start slowing now that I'm getting to be under 150 (hopefully soon!). All my losses in in my siggy.

Averaging a little over 2lbs per week but it goes up and down each week. Also as you near the end, your weekly amount will slow. There is less of you to haul around so your body isn't doing as much calorie burning.

My average is over 3 pounds per week, but as you can see from my signature, there is no rhyme or reason to the losses. Some weeks it's zero, some weeks it's 5 or 6 pounds. This week is a great example. On Monday I weighed in at 233.8 for a 1.8 loss, and today I'm already down to 230. I don't question it or get discouraged at the slower loss weeks.

Lisa,
That's amazing (and wonderful). Have you started taking thyroid meds? I was also diagnosed w/ hypothyroidism right as I was getting started last year. I take Armour thyroid meds.

BTW, bought wellness underground book, finished it in 2 days, enlightening. Am also reading "Mastering Leptin".

Mine vary a lot week to week. Anywhere from 1.4 to 3 lbs a week...then there are those weeks with no losses or less than 1 lb. TOM is usually why I have a no low or low loss week.

So far this week I lost 5 pounds; however on average I lose 3 pounds a week. Bad weeks I lose nothing!

I can't wait to be on IP long enough to have numbers to average ;)

So far very happy with my two weigh ins.

Over 2 months since starting, if everything is averaged, I lose 2.78 lb/week.
That being said, some weeks it's close to 5, some weeks it's only 1. But it all evens out in the end :)

You can see my losses in my signature - I had high weeks and low weeks all through the process!

One VERY important thing to remember is that your losses will slow down the closer you get to goal. The smaller you are, the less baseline calories your body needs to function. So there is a smaller difference between what you NEED and what you are EATING. The bigger the difference, the more dramatic the weight loss. We are already at the VERY low end of calorie intake so you do NOT want to increase that difference any more than it already is. Just rest assured that it's normal, and it means you are so much closer to hitting your goal!

Mine varies week to week (like most folks' losses) but my average since starting is 2.12 pounds per week overall.

Are you losing any lean mass or just fat? I'm also losing some lean mass.

Of course you're losing lean mass!
Lean mass is EVERYTHING that isn't fat.
So you'll lose skin & connective tissue you don't need anymore. My doc even reminded me that we lose tiny blood vessels we don't need anymore.

We all automatically think lean mass is muscle but it is everything else. And remember how much water we lose with every lb of fat!

A person will lose 1lb of lean mass (as lisa said, this is EVERYTHING but fat) for every 4lb of weight lost. This is NORMAL.

I started on Synthroid about 6 weeks ago, but after the reading I've done (2 books, 1 by a doc and the other called Stop the Thyroid Madness), I'm not happy I was prescribed Syntrhoid. It just tells me my doc really doesn't understand what is happening & is just going with what the pharm industry is telling him.
I went for my blood re-test last Thurs. I'm waiting for my email of the results & if I don't hear from my doc, I'll call the office. I don't want to just be "in range" I want to be optimal. I want normal thyroid functioning again and if he can't get to the cause of it, I'll find someone who will. There's a reason this happened at age (almost) 50.

I LOVE Sean's blog and podcasts. He has the most informative folks on! I haven't read his book. Right now I'm reading 8 steps to a Pain-Free Back by Esther Gokhale. She's a rebel. Rebels are my fav.

Gotta love thyroid issues!

I was just diagnosed three years ago as hypothyroid - turns out mine is caused by Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune response that attacks the thyroid. Unfortunately in my case there won't be such a thing as getting back "normal thyroid function" because the damage has been done. But I take my meds and things have normalized as much as possible, it's just something I have to watch.

Autoimmune issues are nasty little buggers - my mother in law just joined the club, she suddenly developed autoimmune hepatitis at age 55 with no history of liver issues, no heavy drinking, nothing. Sometimes the body's defenses just go wonky.

I hear that. I thought I'd at least make 40 before everything went to he77 but I was 1 month away from my birthday when I was diagnosed with MS. Kind of ruins the whole milestone of a birthday.

Getting back to the original question. Today is day 28 for me and I'm averaging 4lbs per week based on the big dump from week 1. For the last 3 weeks I'm averaging 2.66.

I've been on it for almost 4 weeks and every weight in is about 7lbs. I was 377 almost 4 weeks ago and did a personal WI last night at 348. I rea`lly love this diet, it doesn't seem like much effort.

Everytime I go for my WI there no decrease in lean muscle mass. My coach told me if there ever was that she recommends to eat another packet during the day...she said up to 4 packets if I start losing muscle but that hasn't happened yet. I thought this diet wasn't suppose to do that, maybe i'm confused...

Lean mass and muscle are NOT the same thing. IP does preserve MUSCLE mass, but lean mass is a lot more than just that.

Lean mass is EVERYTHING that is not fat in your body, including connective tissue. When you lose weight, you also lose all the connective tissue that was needed to hold the fat in place - that is part of lean mass.

I should also add that no matter how accurate people believe those scales to be that "measure" lean mass - they are truly a poor measure of actual lean mass. Your doctor can actually get a more accurate measurement using calipers than those scales can offer. Just something to remember when your coach puts too much stock in those numbers.

I guess I am a little confused as well. Lisa and scorbett explanation makes sense, but I had a loss in lean mass as well this week and my coach was concerned. Asked if I had all protein...yes. Said we will need to monitor as it shouldn't keep happening.
