Good morning everyone!

Started the day with Six week Six Pack by Jillian Michael's.

Seeing some wrinkly skin on the thighs, hoping workouts and time will smooth things out.

Good morning everyone. Well had a busy weekend getting ready for our holiday. I only have to clean a couple things before we leave. I got all our filing done (the job that always waits for me) and coked some meals for my son to take back to lethbridge with him.

I don't go for my WI this week because we leave Thursday before they open but will WI the week after we are back. Can't wait to get away. Have a great day!

Good Morning! I just joined the group this morning! I've been on the program for 3 weeks ~ WI tonight :D
So far, I've lost 8.4lbs and have found the plan pretty easy to follow & I've learned a lot from reading all of your posts ;)
The biggest question that I've had is whether or not I can run while on program. I've read a lot of the starter info on the site but can't really find much regarding running. (or really find the answer that I want to hear ~ "yes, you can still run, just have a banana before you go out" haha! I registered for 2 half marathons in March & would really love to be able to do them while on the program.
My coach said that he ran a half marathon while on Phase 1 & just had an extra packet on the days that he trained. He said that he used "gu" during the race. I don't seem to have enough energy to get out there and run on Phase 1.
Any suggestions?

Seeing some wrinkly skin on the thighs, hoping workouts and time will smooth things out.

I had the same thing in various places but my skin seems to be tightening up. I think sometimes it just takes awhile to catch up - especially as we get older!

I'm on day 10 at our home away from home and am down 1.7 pounds in the last week. I peeked at the scale yesterday and was thrilled with the 138.5 I saw but knew it might not hold for today's "official" WI ... Well, it did, along with another .3 of a pound! :carrot: It seems that I have to work hard for every ounce, but it is so worth it. I'm glad that I stay OP since it helps me to know that the weight eventually will come off as long as I keep doing what I'm doing. There are lots of healthy food options here, but also lots of unhealthy ones. My BIL seems to be trying to set a record for how much unhealthy stuff he can eat! I've offered to let him use my scale while he's here but he's declined. I'd hate to be in his position when he finally goes home and goes in for his doctor's appointment. He's paid a lot of money to drop 45 pounds recently, and has completely gone off program for vacation (LOTS of beer, wine, rum, mixed drinks (I was *shocked* at the carbs in a mojito!!), fried foods, breads, desserts, and just sheer quantities of anything and everything). I don't understand it but just keep my mouth shut. On the other hand, everyone else teases me unmercifully when I order my food at restaurants ("She'll have a salad with no croutons, no dressing, no tomatoes, no cheese, no carrots ... Oh, and no lettuce!") Whatever. I'm doing this for me, not for them.

Seas are still kicking up today so we're out of the water until tomorrow but we'll be diving tomorrow. Hope you all have a great day today!!

Soooo close to goal Bubbleblower!!!! You're doing great, so don't let those comments get to you.

Everytime I eat lunch with my boss he tells me to enjoy my bowl of lettuce.:( I just smile and say thank you. Jokes on him though because I keep losing and he looks like he has regained the weight he lost last spring/summer.

Wow, sounds like a beautiful vacation! That BIL of yours might be helping to keep you on track. Witnessing all that backslide should make you feel really proud of your choices . . . but make sure there is lettuce in that salad

I woke up starving today!! what's the best go-to breakfast for those hungry days? BTW - I had my first weigh in yesterday and lost 7pounds - mostly water , I know, but I'm happy!

Today is day 7 of week 1 -- yipppeeee! I feel better in my clothes AND in my mood! That is already worth it, but I can't deny I am excited to weigh in tomorrow. I need to work on managing my expectations, though, as in the past a disappointing weigh in knocks me for a loop.

meint -- Wishing you success with your "starving morning." Those are hard. I am so new, I am still just doing shakes and vitamins (which, btw, the vitamins are filling by the time I swallow all the water I need with them! I have a hard time with the multivit, yikes!)

ragdoll74 -- You know your boss is just jealous and is probably kicking himself inside for not doing the same. Good outlook you have.

bubbleblower -- You just hold your head up high and order the salad just the way you want it. Think of how cute Meg Ryan looked doing it in When Harry Met Sally. ;)

lovetorun3 -- Welcome! I've been around here about a week. No idea what to tell you about running, but I say "more power to you" for even feeling like you want to find a way! I know they say no activity in Phase 1, though . . . I'm sure the much-more experienced people will have insight.

cass2ander -- Welcome back atop the wagon! The view is much better from here. ;)

Trina -- Have a great holiday!

sonyainva -- Wrinkly skin beats dimpley-jiggly skin! (Which is what mine all is at this early stage), so congrats! I bet it will smooth out.

Wishing everyone a good day! :carrot:

Congrats to those close to goal a few already this morning

I had a question / looking for comments last night after ultramommy asked about her meat and didn't get response so thought I would try pasting it again here. Maybe a little too late for the east coasters....Thanks!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commenting about the meat question with a question of my own. I am pretty sure the consensus on here is to weigh meat raw. First question about that is my coach told my friend to weigh after cooked because of all the water in raw meat. Comments?

Now I do weigh out some raw, but doing stew type dishes or roasts for a family many times I weigh cooked as impossible to weigh first. Comments or experience on this? There is no way I am going to hack off a chunk of pork tenderloin and hope it's the right weight and wreck the roasting of the whole piece......

Good Morning,

As a newbie, I must say that looking at your lovely pictures and your motivational stories helps me to visualize what can be - this is a great site!
Today is day 16 and I am doing very well, however really trying to stay away from social invites - right now at least. Have a birthday party I have to go to and will order protein, veg and bring my WF dressings and have tea. Will probably have water with a lemon for my "cocktail" - that is the hardest part!

Week #1: -6#, Week #2: -3#, Week #3 weigh in this THursday! One small accomplishement - I got back into my fat jeans that I couldn't wear before IP!

Can't wait to get my counter - they look so fun!

Thanks to all of you for your insight and experience!:)

I was told 8 oz RAW meat. I often make pork tenderloin. I try to get one close to a pound so that once it's cooked I can eat half and DH can have the rest. It's not perfect, but it works for me.

8 oz raw meat generally cooks down to about 6.5 ounces cooked. So that is the measurement I use when portioning out roasts.

For stews/stir fries, and dishes where the meat is cut up and mixed in, I weigh out the raw pieces and count how many pieces equal 8oz before cooking. Then I put that many pieces on my plate after cooking :)

OK good to know. I have been preweighing for the stirfry's and depending on how many portions I need out of it, have just been eyeballing. Counting would definately be more acurate.

I find it very interesting that my coach would say to weigh meatafter if there is that much of a difference.

The difference is usually between 1 and 1.5 oz raw vs cooked. It can differ based on the type of meat (chicken, beef and pork all cook down differently), and cooking method (roasting causes more "shrinkage" than cooking in a lot of liquid), but that's a pretty close rule of thumb.

I need some IP help. In 2012 I had the help of a coach, but financially for 2013, I had to go alternative. I want to start taking some strength classes at the gym and train for a 5k because it's a cause I really care about (I used to be addicted to endurance races...so I've been holding back while on this diet).

Is it right to add a protein shake before AND after the workout, or what's the suggested balance for the exercise? I just want to keep going, but add the proper nutrition. Any help is appreciated!!!

I had my week 3 weigh-in this morning.... I am down 3 lbs and 3.5 inches.

I had MAJOR carb cravings this past week and my coach and I tried to figure out why... couldn't find a diet related reason since I am 100% OP and have cut down my Mio to twice a day. I don't overuse the WF products, I sometimes don't even use it on a daily basis.

She asked if I was "cycling" and I explained to her that up until a month ago, I hadn't had a period for 8 months. I'm at the age where my body is trying to go 100% menopausal but just can't quite make it. Anyway, before I started IP, I joined a "Boot Camp" fitness program and in about week 3 of the program I started my TOM. I understand that burning fat releases estrogen, so maybe that TOM was related to the release of estrogen. (?)

So my question is... for those who aren't quite menopausal like me, have you found that IP will create PMS symptoms because of the fat burning?

Thanks in advance for your help. I don't post a lot, but I do read every word of every post on this forum and the help and motivation you all have given me is priceless!

:carrot: I'm excited to get my first delivery from Nashua Nutrition. I, too, had to go alternative for financial reasons, so I've been asking TONS of questions here to be sure I'm as OP as I can get.

I'm also going to add some time on the treadmill today, though as a brisk walk pace (as I'm not a runner.)

Love this place!

You will have to listen to your body - you definitely want to add something after your exercise, but for me I found that having a slightly bigger breakfast (I would have a WLS veggie omelet with an added egg and egg white, with either spinach or mushrooms) was enough to keep me from stalling. I was also only running, averaging about 200 calories burned. You may find that you need to add something before as well if you are also strength training on the same day, but you may not need to. See if you feel extra fatigued, or if the scale totally stalls out.

What if you weigh the whole thing raw then the whole thing cooked and figure out how much of the raw meat you'd have eaten?

Hi, My coach told me that I should do an extra unrestricted packet within 15 minutes of finishing my exercising because that was when one's body craves the protein and the calories. I haven't researched very much into it past what my coach said, but I found that having a chocolate shake on the car ride home from my workout prevented me from being starving later or the next morning. That being said, my work outs were not particularly intense- usually 30 minutes on the elliptical or something long those lines.

Any one ever feel like just giving up? I am at almost 6 months and halfway to my goal, another 80 pounds to go. But today - I am just tired of it, frustrated and annoyed (at myself). After 6 months I should know that Crystal light is a no-no. So why did I think last week it was ok to drink it all week?

Needless to say, my weight loss stopped this week and I went up a pound.

I am so tired of dieting. But at 199 - I still have to lose another 80 pounds.

What do you do to keep yourself going?

 Sorry you are going through this.

I don't have an answer for you, but watching Biggest Loser last night, something rang true to me. One of the contestants admitted that she self-sabotages because she is afraid of trying her hardest and then failing. I know I have done that in the past -- I lose up to 70 lbs--white knuckling it all the way--and then get tired of fighting. And I find myself thinking, "Why do I work so hard when it doesn't matter anyway? Even if I get to my goal by trying my hardest, I'll slip up and gain it all back. It's not worth it." It's much easier to fail because I chose to quit rather than risking giving it my all and failing anyway. Of course, that line of thinking has kept me from ever succeeding and has guaranteed my failure.

Are you have a similar internal dialogue? A little Crystal Light mistake isn't the end of the world. That pound isn't fat, and it'll come off if you get back OP. What are you afraid of that's threatening to keep you from reaching your goal? Is it fear of failure like me?

Don't dispair Kat117! I think we all have those feelings. What keeps me going? I think about how I always get screened at the airport, while my skinny family walks right through. I think about how left-out I feel at the mall, since I know there is nothing there for me. I think about all the things I don't do with my family because "I have nothing to wear" or I'm self conscious about my size. If I could make all that disappear . . . well nothing could possibly taste better than that. And then I see all the people on this site in their new outfits, and all the :carrot: happy carrots! We just need to keep at it and all the weight will go. This program really seems to have the answers if we just hang in there!

The idea of a buried fear keeping us from success is so interesting to me. I'm going to think about that.

About to go grocery shopping and stock up on some IP friendly veggies. I love mushrooms, kale, cabbage, zucchini, and broccoli so I'm excited to get some more variety in then the broccoli or cauliflower I've had every day this week! Hope everyone is having a great OP IP day!

NSV - I always have to use extenders on my necklaces because they feel like they are choking me. I noticed all my necklaces are longer - maybe I can get rid of the extenders!

Also, I tried the Smooth Move Tea last night - taste was bad but it did the work. Can't wait to see how this weeks WI goes!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the IP diet. I just thought I would stop by and say hi and introduce myself to all my soon-to-be (i hope) IP Buddies. Looks like I will be starting the day after tomorrow, and just wondered if any of the rest of you were nervous about the start like I am right now. I've been a dedicated reader of this forum for the past week now and I'm pretty sure I have most of the basics I need to know down but I'm still super NERVOUS. I just don't want to fail. I'm terrified this will all be in vein. I've done really well on diets in the past but I ALWAYS gain the weight back. Right now I'm the biggest I have ever been in my life and its to the point now that I'm just not healthy at all! I have to do this!

I woke up starving today!! what's the best go-to breakfast for those hungry days? ....!

When I have a "grrrr" I make an IP omelette with extra egg if needed and tons of veggies. Very filling!

Wow major light headed this morning feeling very faint. Just had a small hunk of cucumber with sea salt and going to lie down. Maybe coming down with something..dh says I am very pale he thinks blood sugar may be low...guess will see later how I feel....

I get light headed too and have low blood pressure. My coach keeps advocating to get my salt in. I personally want to have 5 restricted bars but the cucumber/salt is a better option :D

Any one ever feel like just giving up? I am at almost 6 months and halfway to my goal, another 80 pounds to go. But today - I am just tired of it, frustrated and annoyed (at myself)...
What do you do to keep yourself going?

YEP -- been there but I DID stop and now am regretting how far along I could be. 80 lbs is a 11-12 year old child. You lost THAT off your body! That's AMAZING!!

In about 15 pounds you'll see the sizes dropping and feel super skinny so stick with it! You're out of the "morbidly obese" range, and will soon be shopping in regular stores, if you're not already, so HAVE COURAGE and keep goin!

Thanks IP43! Good idea, I will try the omelet. I'm not a big egg fan, but all the veggies should take the edge off. Speaking of eggs, in my oven right now is a cauliflower/roasted leek/roasted kale souffle. If it actually puffs, I'll add the recipe here. With the leftover egg whites, I mixed in some Mio and stuck them in the oven too - hoping for meringues. We will see. Not sure if Mio is allowed so while they cook, I will scout around on this site.

Mrs. Stunner, Welcome!! I chose this diet because, like you, I always gain it back. I figured if all the weight loss happens in stage 1, stage 2, 3 and 4 must be centered on keeping it off - just right for me and you!

Thanks IP43. I am still dizzy and just don't know if it was the marathon all nighter my 3 year old pulled last night. Well I stupidly watched a movie until 1am and she was up at 3am till 6am. Then up to take son to school. So could have been that or I kind of feel like my neck is all out of whack. The salt certainly did not help and I feel like I do have quite a bit of salt. Husband still insists it's low blood sugar. But I am like your low blood pressure idea as mine is usally pretty low anyway, funny cause the last couple days I have felt pressure or tightness in my veins, weird I know, but was thinking maybe my blood pressure was up. Boy oh boy I am a wreck today! I would love to have 5 restricted. That's another thing hungry again. Having a tea right now.

We actually just drink some of the pickle juice (no water as it'll wash right through). If it works then usually an indication of low salt.

Thanks mytime50 and m35a2 I think I am ruling out the salt factor as had cucumber and salt and then salad and roasted cauliflower for lunch both with salt. I feel like I have quite a bit of salt on this diet. Posted above, right now it could be any number of things, but salt ruled out. That was my first thoughtl.....

Anyone else on P3 feel a little overstuffed? It's only day 2 so I thought my body may take time to get used to the big breakfast, but oh boy do I feel huge :) Thinking of scaling back my protein portions to 6 or 7oz to see if that helps.

Scorbett,
Welcome to P3!
I remember feeling so bloated and stuffed. It felt like my breakfast was sitting like a lump in my stomach for hours!
I realized that my stomach just couldn't handle the dairy. I stopped eating Greek yogurt and I felt much better. I have since switched to almond milk. It may take a few days for your body to adjust. I too scaled back my protein and found 6 oz. was enough for me.
Good luck! So happy for you! :carrot:

Good luck -- you're with a great group. If you're just "organizing" things, maybe get some biotin. SOME people experience hair loss on any diet with rapid weight loss, but it doesn't show until month 3 or 4 so by then, it's kinda too late to think of the biotin vitamin. Just a suggestion. :)

Today I made a rotini salad with 2 cups blanched broccoli, dressed with the mayo and seasonings. It was very good but doesn't seem to be holding off my hunger like the soup and raw vegs did.

I put my rotini salad (with the italian vinaigrette) and a bunch of veggies, ON TOP of a big bed of lettuce. It was HUGE and filled me up no problem. People at work joke and ask if my salad is for the whole staff as it's a pretty big bowl. NOPE-Not sharin':nono:

Ladylunk -

The way you are feeling my be totally unrelated to the diet - About 3 weeks ago I got suddenly very dizzy while sitting at the computer typing - dizzy to the point where I was scared - felt like the room was spinning - I immediately had some salt and it did nothing. Just as panic was setting in - I remembered a coworker who is not on this diet had mentioned having extreme vertigo the weekend before. We are preschool teachers so there is always some cootie going around.

With help - I went up to bed and slept for 14 hours! I should have eaten my jello before I fell asleep but I could not - I was dizzy to the point of being Naseus and almost dry heaving - I woke up feeling fine the next day. 2 other people I know had the same thing - One was my coach who is on Phase 4.
She also tried the salt and it didn't help her either.

So - you might have a viral thing or you might just simply be exhausted.

If you don't feel better in a day or so after some rest you might want to check with your doctor.

I'm looking at your height and goal weight and wondering if you're being extremely hard on yourself?
I'm the same height. I'll be "great" with "just" being in the normal weight range. I don't need to be a weight that is going to be extremely difficult to maintain.
So, normal weight range is my goal...not some picture of perfection.

Stick with it and soon you'll get past that mental wall. After that you'll feel like you could do phase 1 forever.

BTW Crystal light is ok in moderation. A better choice would be MIO since it doesn't have aspartame.

RE: Vertigo/dizzyness. I was just reading in January's First for Women magazine (the one where Dr. Oz told me my body type is a tigress, not a gazelle) about natural relief for dizziness. It's called BPPV -- benign paroxysmal positional vertigo which is caused by microscopic calcium particles located on nerve endings in the ear canal breaking free , bouncing around and causing dizziness. This can happen more often if you're over 40, had a head injury, or suffer from sinusitits.

It suggests 2 things:
1) try the "epley maneuvre" that cures dizziness caused by loose ear particles as it helps dislodge calcium crystals and reposition them back into a labyrinth in the back of the ear -- go to Youtube and search "Epley, University of Michigan". Follow the "left epley" if you get dizzy turning your head to the left

2) sleep on your back. otherwise gravity pulls calcium particles in the ear that's resting on the pillow to the forefront into canals where they cause dizziness.

WOW -- these chick magaizines are shore makin' me lurn real good. Call me "Dr. IP43" ;)

The Epley maneuvre seems to have cured my mom's vertigo (knock on wood on her behalf). She had suffered with it for more than a decade, but after a few visits to a well trained physician, she has been free of those dizziness attacks for more than three years.

You will be pleasantly surprised. The first 4 days will be tough but after that the food cravings will be gone and you'll find you just look at the plate of donuts or whatever, and don't even want any. Not only is it not worth it, you just don't "want" it. However, cheat, and get out of ketosis, and you'll be wanting to gnaw the legs off the chairs and the 4 day cycle starts all over. It won't take long to realize the finger licks, nibbles, and kids' PB and J crusts are so not worth another 4 days and $30 a nibble ;)

For me on day one I was shocked that I wasn't hungry. Then days 2-3 I was sick to my stomach from the carb withdrawal.

You do get hungry before meals and want to eat, but in my experience it hasn't been that ravenous I'm eating anything that gets in my way hunger.

The first week you are allowed an extra non-restricted packet each day if needed, and that should help with the initial hunger.

Oh good! And howdy neighbor :) That MB actually carries a great selection of Walden Farms stuff too, but you have to look for it. The dressings are near where the tofu is. The chocolate and caramel sauce are in the aisle with the ice cream toppings (near the magazines). They have the WF peanut spread with the peanut butters and the WF pancake syrups with the other syrups. I've also seen the BBQ sauces in the BBQ sauce aisle. Can you tell I've scouted all this stuff out??? :)

The baby is down, digesting the daily...slept in this morning...pregnancy brain totally forgot to set my alarm this morning and missed my morning run. Making up with a 3-mile jog and Bodypump tomorrow morning. Made a delicious roasted pork loin and cauliflower for dinner tonight... I can't take cauli purée anymore, but still love the roasted florets!

I eat lunch with my boss he tells me to enjoy my bowl of lettuce.:( I just smile and say thank you. Jokes on him though because I keep losing and he looks like he has regained the weight he lost last spring/summer.

The joke IS on him! I must have a "don't F with me" face because I never heard a peep about my food choices in P1. Although my Dad did make a "this is DIET food!" comment in Phase 3 when he had some of my pumpkin pie breakfast!

I woke up starving today!! what's the best go-to breakfast for those hungry days? BTW - I had my first weigh in yesterday and lost 7pounds - mostly water , I know, but I'm happy!

I would have a 2 egg white IP packet recipes in the morning with some front loaded veggies, FinnStevens mock French toast (omelette packet and shredded&squeezed zucchini) was always super filling, or zucchini crispy cereal pancakes. Lol, zucchini and breakfast...tastes great!
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/4039565-post89.html

Honestly - for me it was either run or P1. I did light walking (2-3 miles, slow) and moderate weightlifting in P1. I tried running 3miles in P1 and had a very scary experience afterward with dizziness, nausea, and my eyes could not focus (THAT was the scariest). Pre-IP I was doing 3-miles @ ~12-min/mile, after dropping the weight I was immediately able to do 5-miles @ 7-8 min/mile. Currently I run 25-30 mi/week (but quit the speed work as I am 12-weeks pregnant) and continue Bodypump 2-3x/week.

I did light walking from day 1 of P1 and started Bodypump 3x/week starting at week 8 in P1 at ~1/2 the weight I did pre-IP (did increase it gradually). Be warned that high intensity exercise is NOT recommended in P1, if you did it before you may want to test the waters after a week or so, and don't be surprised if it stalls your losses. I would time my eating for Bodypump so I had an unrestricted ~1 hour before working out and my meal (8-oz protein & veggies) after my workout, also would have 2 egg whites that day.

Mom2tocs was an avid, intense exerciser throughout P1 and acknowledged & accepted the slower losses to keep up her routine. Just be aware it is a choice, slower losses for intense exercise.

That is a normal WI for being that close to goal.

I never had the burst of energy. I make sure to get 8 hours minimum of sleep each night or I am dragging all day.

I'm pre menopausal and sleep has eluded me for a long time. Since I've been on IP I haven't had night sweats (yay!). Good to know I'm not the only one who hasn't experienced that burst of energy. I know I should be happy with losing a pound this week but I had set an expectation of losing up to two pounds a week. I can hear everyone saying "a loss is a loss!" :)

Today's weigh in - down 5 lbs from last week. That's a total of 25 lbs in 6 weeks.:carrot:

That's fantastic! Congrats!

I have to laugh at myself, tomorrow is my first WI and for the first time in my life I can't wait to jump on that scale. :)

Good luck tomorrow! I'm sure your results will be awesome! That first week was the motivation I needed to keep going.
