So much about hair loss.... How many if you die hard IPers have NOT had this side effect?

02-17-2013, 08:16 PM
Almost 2 months in and no hair loss

02-17-2013, 08:18 PM
I'm only going on 6 weeks but no hair loss

02-17-2013, 08:20 PM
I'm 4 months in and I'm definitely losing hair :(

02-17-2013, 08:38 PM
2 months none.

02-17-2013, 08:42 PM
3 1/2 months and none that I've noticed

02-17-2013, 08:53 PM
Did IP two years ago for 6 months.....noticed hair loss but not anything that worried me. This time I decided to take Biotin just for the heck of it! Bonus if it helps my skin and nails too!! :carrot:

02-17-2013, 08:53 PM
I started in mid-October and have had no hair loss. I did start extra biotin from the beginning in the hopes it would prevent it!

02-17-2013, 09:07 PM
I decided to start taking biotin day 1. Costco had it on sale so it made it pretty cheap.

02-17-2013, 09:13 PM
4 months of phase 1 (now in maintenance) and no hair loss.

02-17-2013, 09:29 PM
I have lost tons of hair and I have thick long hair. I could not touch my scalp before but now I can. So worried about it a lot I will start to take biotin from tomorrow

02-17-2013, 09:47 PM
Been on for 10 months with no hair loss.

02-17-2013, 09:49 PM
3.5 months on phase 1 and no hair loss yet. Just started taking biotin this week, just in case.

02-17-2013, 09:58 PM
2.5 months and no hair loss, but I've not lost an extreme amount of weight either, and I take Biotin. Hair loss seems to be directly related to how much you lose and how fast. It's not an IP issue specifically.

02-17-2013, 11:35 PM
No hair loss.

02-17-2013, 11:39 PM
I have really thick hair and colour process on a regular basis so I thought I would lose some but no hair loss for me.

02-18-2013, 12:59 AM
I have had a ton of problems with TOM, but never any hair loss. Hair loss may be more an issue if you went from no food restriction to IP, creating a sudden and pronounced calorie deficit. I ate between 1400-1700 calories for quite a while before doing Medifast and then IP. My TOM problems were due to low carbs and have disappeared once I increased the carb count (I stopped IP for now).

02-18-2013, 11:27 AM
I'm about 8 weeks in and haven't had any yet. However, I had some massive hair loss due to some sort of reaction to a Keratin smoothing treatment I had done last year. In fact, my hair loss has just recently gotten back to a normal level. I'm hoping I don't lose any due to IP, I need what's fallen out to grow back!

02-18-2013, 12:26 PM
Just FYI, from what I have read, the hair loss usually doesn't hit til 3 1/2 to 5 months. I thought I was one of the lucky ones who wouldn't have hair loss. It started around 3 1/2 months, only a little at first. At 4 1/2 months, it got really, really bad. I started taking Biotin about a month ago, and it hasn't seemed to help yet. My hairdresser tells me it takes about a month to see results from taking Biotin for hair. My advice to anyone concerned that they might have hair loss is to start Biotin...don't wait until you start losing your hair. I wish I had started at the beginning of the diet. I'm phasing off now because the hair loss is that bad. I never loss hair during or after pregnancy, nor during breastfeeding, so I thought I'd be a low risk for losing hair. I was wrong.

02-18-2013, 12:32 PM
I haven't had any hair loss and I'm almost 2 months in. Almost wish I had... my hair is way too thick anyway! :)

02-18-2013, 01:03 PM
No hair loss for me and I've been on IP for 32 weeks. I have very fine hair so any loss would be bad for me.

I didn't have hairloss with my pregnancies either. I seem to remember that if you lost hair during/after pregnancy, you are more likely to have hair loss on IP.

02-18-2013, 02:02 PM
4 months and no loss. Did start taking biotin about 2-3 weeks ago because of all the hair loss discussions.

02-18-2013, 02:27 PM
No hair loss for me, I am almost 6 months into Phase 1. My hair has actually gotten thicker, I think because I have been able to go off my diabetes medications (metformin hastens hair loss.)

02-18-2013, 04:16 PM
I am taking Biotin... Hope it helps to prevent it. I lose so much on a regular basis that I really don't wanna lose much more. Lol. Stress has done it to me in the past... Just before I left my ex I was pulling handfuls out when shampooing... It was sick! I am not losing huge amounts of weight each week so maybe it won't be too bad... Fingers crossed! Now if I can just fix my moods and libido!

02-18-2013, 05:41 PM
My hair became extremely thin after an illness about 10 years ago. Ideal Protein and Maxi-Hair vitamins are the only things that make my hair strong!

02-18-2013, 06:01 PM
3 1/2 months in and I think I just noticed it this morning! I have fine hair but a LOT of it (I have to have them thin it 3x when I get my hair cut) and hadn't noticed anything. This morning I woke up and there was hair on my pillow... so I flipped the pillow and am going to keep watch tomorrow morning.

If I run my hands through my hair I come out with quite a few hairs.... so I am thinking it may be hitting me. BUT with my lot of hair I don't think it should be noticable, I lost a lot when I was pregnant and you couldn't.

But I also decided I would rather be bald then 277 again, so if I shave my head I shave my head. It's just the kind of person I am lol

02-18-2013, 06:27 PM
6.5 weeks no hair loss! I didn't even know it was an issue!!

02-18-2013, 06:53 PM
the research says that between 10-25% of us will experience hair loss to some degree. It usually takes place between months 4-6 so I started with biotin at month 3. Takes about a month to work once u start taking it

02-19-2013, 12:26 AM
5 months on phase 1 the first time I was on IP=no hair loss
1 month on IP phase 1 this time=also, no hair loss

I have been on prenatals and extra supplements for 3 years, so perhaps that has helped prevent hair loss? I too would rather deal with temporary hair loss than the weight I am at.

02-19-2013, 01:11 AM
I haven't had any hair loss either. My hair is growing fast and my stylist has noticed it.

02-25-2013, 11:43 AM
10 months, and no hair loss

02-25-2013, 03:18 PM
Ive lost 50 percent of my hair:(

02-25-2013, 03:47 PM
20 weeks and no hair loss.

02-25-2013, 03:50 PM
Medifast: Almost 2 months and no hair loss. I have thin hair anyway, but the only thing I've noticed is it is a little more dry than normal. But I haven't had any falling out and I had shaved my head Christmas Eve (for a friend with cancer) and it's growing back and already an inch on the top. I should be back to two inches on top (which is how I wear it) soon.

Take a Hair, skin and nails vitmain that has biotin, folic acid and niacin.

02-25-2013, 04:12 PM
I've been on for many months (very slow weight loss, probably due to a combination of reasons) and while I can't say 'no weight loss' I have had quite minimal hair loss. I attribute this to having taken silica for several months. Plus I also more recently started taking biotin as an extra precaution.

02-25-2013, 05:01 PM
I've been OP for 13 weeks now and no hair loss. My coaches say that people who experience hair loss or more of the apple body types (most of the weight is in the middle of the body), I'm a pear.

02-26-2013, 08:03 AM
How odd-what is the connection between body type and tendency to lose hair on this diet? I guess I would be considered an apple. My worst areas are thighs/stomach/chest/upper arms, but I have not had any hair loss. I'm surious about the connection...does anyone know?

02-26-2013, 11:05 AM
I didn't notice any hair loss during my first 3 months on IP. Then I went into maintenance and the hair loss started big time. The good news...I'm 3 months into maintenance and the loss is slowing and am I'm noticing some regrowth beginning. I did start taking Biotin in maintenance once I noticed the loss.

Interesting connection between body type and hair loss. I would say I'm an apple shape.

02-26-2013, 11:30 AM
Week 7 and no hair loss. I was taking biotin long before I started IP, I upped my daily dosage when I started this plan. Also, I wear wigs on the regular to switch up my style/look so while I don't want to lose any hair, I know I can still be my cute self if it happens.

02-27-2013, 12:06 AM
This is my 21st week, and no hair loss. I did have MAJOR hair loss last summer, before starting IP. But, my sugar was dangerously high and I think my entire metabolism was just seriously wrong. I also had calf and/or foot cramps almost every other day at that point. So although I haven't had hair loss on IP, I do wonder if that is because I lost so much hair before IP.

02-27-2013, 12:09 PM
:(I'm having quite a bit of hair loss. I have been taking Biotin for about a month. I just want to know when does it stop!!! I've been on IP for 4 months now.:?:

02-27-2013, 01:23 PM
I've lost lots of hair - I've been on IP 6 months with 60 lb loss, apple shape. I noticed the hair loss starting at about 6 weeks in and started taking biotin. I have new hair coming in, which is great, but it's GRAY! I was doing highlights previously and now I'm doing full color.

But, you know what? Thin, healthy and gray is better than obese, sick and brown. Much better. No one ever had a shorter life span due to gray hair.

If you're losing hair, do your best to stay the course on IP. It's very likely no one else is going to notice the thinning hair. I let my hair grow out to cover the thin spots and let it be curly rather than flat iron it. Celebrate your weight loss and healthier body. Your hair will recover.

02-27-2013, 04:26 PM
No hair loss here. But I was taking the Vitamins prior to starting IP.

02-27-2013, 04:31 PM
good for you! you were smart, unlike myself:(

02-27-2013, 04:33 PM
Seven weeks in, no hair loss. Was taking biotin, omega 3, dha and a multivitamin long before starting this diet. When I started I upped my biotin dose just in case. Everything I've read here says the hair comes back. Just breathe and push on through.

02-27-2013, 05:22 PM
I, too, started taking the biotin suppliment from the beginning 5 months ago. Manly because I was concerned about loose skin at the age of sixty. I have not notice any hair loss.

I have lost 28 pounds.

02-27-2013, 09:56 PM
5 weeks here and no hair loss....

03-27-2013, 01:13 AM
No hair loss for me! Lost 4 #/wk for 2 weeks, then 3#/wk for months.

03-27-2013, 06:01 AM
Ping on 3 months and I'm losing less hair than before IP. My hair isn't getting oily either...I'm sure it won't last after IP, but I wish it would! My skin is also really clear and healthy - but I bruise super easy though.

03-27-2013, 12:19 PM
:(I'm having quite a bit of hair loss. I have been taking Biotin for about a month. I just want to know when does it stop!!! I've been on IP for 4 months now.:?:

I had quite a bit of hair loss around month 4. It only lasted a couple of weeks, it was noticeable as my hairdresser commented on the amount in the sink. The good news is that it quit after a couple of weeks.

03-27-2013, 12:55 PM
I am doing fine up to now.... :^:

03-27-2013, 02:34 PM
:mad:I have been on IP for 5 months. Tons of hair loss, started taking biotin 2 months ago, still loosing hair. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to get me a wig.

03-27-2013, 08:01 PM
I'm pretty think to begin with but I've not noticed any increase.

03-27-2013, 08:14 PM
I've been on IP for 8 months and haven't had any hair loss, BUT, the texture of my hair has changed somewhat and I had to turn down the heat on my flat iron as it would singe off the edges if it was too hot. I take synthroid for my hypothyroidism and my coach gave me an IP handout about this being common for women over 40 who take synthroid and are on IP. The handout suggested using the cool switch on your hair dryer and not turning up the straightener or curling iron too hot. I did this and my hair doesn't singe off anymore.

03-27-2013, 09:59 PM
Over 6 months for me with no hair loss. I use a hairdryer and straightener every day and have healthy hair.

03-27-2013, 10:29 PM
How much Biotin per day does everyone suggest to take?

03-27-2013, 11:31 PM
How much Biotin per day does everyone suggest to take?

I haven't had any hair loss after 11 weeks, but I started getting concerned after all the talk of hair loss here so after about a month on the protocol I decided to start taking Biotin. I had tried 2000mcg of Biotin pre-IP as my nails are soft and I'd been loosing more hair than I'd like, but it didn't seem to make any difference so I stopped. Remembering that, and the fact that Biotin is water-soluble (you excrete whatever your body doesn't need), I bought a super Biotin this time that's 7500mcg, and I take it once a day. My nails are still soft, but my hair looks fuller and thicker... and as I said, no loss (knock on wood...)

04-02-2013, 10:56 PM

At my WI, was asking coach about the new P1 sheet and we discussed several items. Somehow Biotin came up.

IP does NOT recommend adding Biotin as a supplement b/c it stalls some people.

Just thought I'd mention it.

04-02-2013, 11:19 PM
I have been at this since later Sept with no hair loss. I stick as closely as I can to the sheet as I can ( I do alternatives and real food)
I have great skin, hair and my nails have gain strength since starting this program.

04-03-2013, 12:18 AM
So much about hair loss.... How many if you die hard IPers have NOT had this side effect?

no matter what the reason, the shampoo nioxin can make it stop, if you're interested. thought i throw it out there!

04-03-2013, 12:46 AM
This is my second week. I haven't noticed any hair loss; however, I started taking biotin in hopes of preventing such an event. I have (relatively) thin hair, so hair loss would likely be noticeable.

04-03-2013, 02:24 AM
So much about hair loss.... How many if you die hard IPers have NOT had this side effect?

2 months in no hair loss. Second round on IP even the first go around I didn't experience hair loss

04-03-2013, 06:21 AM
I used to lose a lot of hair, but now the loss is less than half of what it was before. I'm almost at 3 months. I also don't have oily hair or fact I've been using extra lotion and conditioner. I hope that all continues, cause its a very nice change!

Tons of hair loss last time. Ready to reboot next week and afraid I'll be a bowling ball head in no time. I think I'll start with Biotin at the same time as the reboot this time.

01-16-2015, 03:22 PM
I really haven't noticed a change since IP.

Some get the problem, others do not

01-16-2015, 05:28 PM
I haven't lost any and I've been on IP for 8 months and have lost 80lbs.

01-16-2015, 05:31 PM
On IP since 9/30/14 and no hair loss.

01-16-2015, 06:36 PM
Just some words of encouragement on this topic. If i remember correctly you are not actually losing hair, just not having any regrowth. your hair is in a rested phase. this happens for two reasons 1) losing weight quickly 2) your body is focusing it's resources elsewhere

It is by no means permanent and you will not go bald. one of two things will happen depending on how long you will be on phase 1 protocol ... 1st if you will be on it several months after your hair has stopped regrowing it will start to have regrowth in about 3 months after it's regrowth has been arrested 2nd if you have reached goal around this time regrowth will start in about the same amount of time, 3 months :)

Everything including our hair comes in cycles! lol

01-16-2015, 06:49 PM
I started losing hair as I entered maintenance. Almost done now (after 4 months). It's no fun but temporary. I had hair loss with pregnancy also (actually, after delivery). Bewarned I think the process is similar for those whose hair is sensitive to hormone changes.

01-16-2015, 08:35 PM
On IP since July last year with no hair loss.

01-17-2015, 12:51 AM
5 months- 80 lbs. - no hair loss- skin feels a bit more dry, specially my hands, but that can also be due to the cold weather, not just the IP diet. I just carry hand cream all the time, and wear a moisturizer for dry skin instead- just like I always do during the winter time.

I feel great and with tons of energy! :carrot:

01-17-2015, 09:00 AM
did P1 for a year, lost 125lbs with IP (another 25lbs with a natural path before IP) and didnt really notice any hair loss. I have thin hair but enough of it I guess. Been on maintainence since sept.

01-17-2015, 05:05 PM
I have had no more hair loss than pre-IP, but I do notice that my hair is thinner and that new fuzzies at the scalp have stopped forming. :)

01-19-2015, 12:22 AM
Been on IP for 5 months and 1 week. 62 pounds lost. No cheating whatsoever. 46 years old. No hair loss at all.

01-19-2015, 09:17 AM
I've have hair loss. I had a small amount prior to IP, but just before 4 months and 40 pounds lost, I really started losing hair. I've started taking biotin, and at 5 1/2 months 55 pounds lost, it has slowed down noticeably. My weight loss was slower during this period. I am hoping that I am though with that.

I have straight, thin hair, and I am over 50. All of my thyroid tests I have had in the past have come back normal.

01-20-2015, 12:45 PM
i never had any hair loss when i did IP.
