Happy Valentines Day!!! Hoping for a great WI today! My DH bought me some new clothes for today which was so sweet. Only thing he bought me the size I used to be and I need a size smaller. Huge accomplishment and I look forward to returning them for a smaller size!!!

Happy Valentine's Day to all. I stalled last week (water retention), so I didn't make my first goal of 25 pounds by Valentines Day, but 20 pounds in the first month is still fantastic.

Happy Thursday, and happy valentines day!!!

Starting my 2nd week of P2, still obsessing over P3! It is definitely a tough balance to make the breakfasts meet the guidelines - but I'm using LizRR as my guideline and just seeing what I can do with some of the recipe I have. I thought some of the Paleo recipes would be good for P3, but most are far too high in fat. I'm still playing around with stuff :)

Today will be a day of running around, have to go to the DMV (which will take up like HALF the morning), get laundry done, take care of some forgotten food shopping, and pick up party invitations for DS's 6th birthday in two weeks :)

Good Morning, Everybody.

It is day 2 of IP for me. I'm not going to lie, I feel pretty horrible (headache, jittery, etc).

As I was quite miserable last night -- headache, extremely hungry, etc. -- I began to doubt that I am doing this right. Can someone reassure me?

Breakfast: EAS CarbControl RTD + vitamins

Lunch: EAS CarbControl RTD + 2 c. cucumbers w/ sea salt & apple cider vinegar

Dinner: 8oz chicken breast, roasted cauliflower, bit of brown mustard for dipping chicken, iceberg lettuce with 2 tsp olive oil (must find recipe for salad dressing!), vitamins

Snack: EAS CarbControl RTD (2 hours before bed)

It occurs to me that this was probably under 1,000 calories for the day. Is that what it is supposed to be?? Won't I go right into starvation mode?

If this is what the program requires (such few calories), I will do it and not complain any further . . . but I need reassurance that I am doing it right or the "mental games" will wreak havoc with me.

Thanks!

Morning All! I got a hug this morning from a friend I hadn't seen in a while and she mentioned how small I felt...great little Valentine's day NSV!

I have a question on Evening Primrose Oil. I had seen something on how beneficial it is for a number of things. I do already take Biotin, Omega 3, and B12 in addition to IP vitamins. Would it help me any to add in the Evening Primrose. More directed add Scorbett our vitamin guru :)

Hope everyone has a great OP day!

Happy Valentines everyone! I had my Thursday WI and I am down another 3 lbs. I have lost 21 in 6 weeks. This board (especially Scorbett) is what got me this far with the answers to every question, brilliant recipes & general inspiration. I have 38lbs to go and I dont think it will be easy but I can't deny it works.

This whole antibiotics thing has me really worried but I will take it as it comes.

Way to go A1Texan! Nice! Sylviesgirl, you can do this. You need to get through day 3 and it's worth it, you will actually feel good as opposed to just tolerating it.

Hang in there!!

YOU SEEM TO BE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT. IF YOU READ THROUGH THE THREADS, YOU WILL SEE THAT NEARLY EVERYONE FEELS THE WAY YOU ARE FEELING FOR THE FIRST 3-4 DAYS...THEN ONE MORNING YOU WAKE UP AND FEEL GREAT!:carrot: (Oops, sorry about the caps!) Don't look at the calories, there is an explanation for the low calories having to do with the amount of calories that your body will provide by burning the stored fat. I'm not good at explaining it but just "trust the process" as everyone will tell you. Follow the guidelines and you will lose! This program rocks!!!:D

Today was my WI and I am down another 1.8!!! Yay!:carrot: Slowly but surely it is all coming off! If I can lose 1.8 next week, then I will have reached my 2nd mini goal of 25 lbs total!

SIL invited me to go snowshoeing on Sat...I said yes, thinking about how to be prepared with food, space bags, etc...then I realized that I don't have any snow gear...no long johns, gloves (other than work gloves) ski pants...my winter coat is a huge leather one with fur lining it! Uhoh! I used to be into snowmobiling but I got rid of all my gear when I outgrew it! Plus I am not a winter person...not sure what to do...hmmm:?:

SylviesGirl,
The first 5days or so are the hardest. Your body is going through carb withdrawal. Trust me/us, it will get better!! I noticed you did not include a restricted item. One of your 3 IP/ alternative foods should be a restricted item. Try replacing the lunch RTD with a bar. I use Pure Protein choc/peanut bars. Also, you can add a salad in the afternoon, in between lunch and dinner. You can also use some of your dinner protein for lunch. Just subtract it from your nighttime meal. If you are really hungry, you can have 2 egg whites sprinkled with sea salt. Dill pickles are also a lifesaver ! Good luck! Come here for support and always ask your questions here in the daily thread. This is where you'll get the best info and the fastest response. Drink your water!!! You can do this!;)

Okay, thanks, gals. . . I can't tell you how much your reassurance means.

It says on the Phase 1 protocol sheet to not have restricteds for the first couple of weeks, but I see by looking around here that many people do and have no problem. I just might have to do that.

As long as I know that I am not doing something wrong, I will do whatever I have to do and tough it out. I NEED to do this. My son is 12 y/o . . . growing up so fast . . . and I am missing so much of it by being so heavy. This summer will be different!

Thanks so much --

SylviesGirl,
Make sure you have the latest version of the Phase 1 sheet. It clearly states that you can have 1 restricted item per day! This is the way the plan was written! Go to the stickies at the top of the IP Forum page and search for it. You are doing this for all the right reasons and you won't be disappointed by the time summer gets here!! You are in the right frame of mind to start this diet and I know you will be successful! Go for it!!! :carrot:

There are a lot of coaches that tell their clients no restricted for the first week, or even longer. Reality--you can have 1 restricted item per day if you want. You don't have to have a restricted, but again, if you want it you can have it.

Also, the first week you can eat up to 4 packets if you need it to get you through (so, either 4 non-restricteds or 3 NR and 1 restricted).

As others suggested, you can have 2 egg whites per day as a free snack or extra lettuce at any time of day. Hot beverages, such as herbal tea, are soothing and keep you feeling satisfied for longer than cold beverages. Just be sure to go with decaf. If you drink a caffeinated beverage you have to drink an equal amount of water to compensate for it.

Assuming that you are using ketostix to check for ketosis? They are extremely inaccurate. Eating a restricted will not bump you out of ketosis. I recommend not using the ketostix anymore. If you are following the plan you are in ketosis.

FYI- some people don't lose as quickly if they don't have the daily restricted.

I was miserable my first 3 days and almost quit because I thought that if my body was reacting so horribly that this was not for me. Then on the morning of day 4 I stepped on the scale and decided to heck with what my body was saying, I was going to keep doing this!

You can do this!!!!!

I talked to my doctor about this (He worked for years in an obesity research facility), and he said he completely endorses this plan, and because we are maintaining plenty of protein intake, it won't send us into starvation mode. Go back into your signature in the User CP, look for the code where it says something like 200/150/175 -- and change the last number to your current weight.

Hi Sylvies Girl,

I modified a salad dressing as follows: 1 tbsp. dijon mustard, 1 tbsp. WF Pancake Syrup, 1 tbsp. apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup EVOO. Salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste. Serving size is 1 tbsp.

I checked with my center to see if this was alright as a way of getting in my olive oil every evening, and they said yes (since it wasn't cooked in any way.)

I also eat spring mix/field greens as my salads since they are composed of arugula, spinach, chard, etc. that are listed on the accepted vegetables.

You'll feel tremendously better in two more days. I was most surprised to find that you may still feel hungry from time to time, but my experience was that even on 850-1000 calories a day I wasn't getting the shakes from low blood sugars.

Anyway, hope that helps! But double check with your center about the recipe....

Good Morning, Everybody.

Is anyone here doing the alternative plan for phase 1 (for diabetics)?
If so, how is your weight loss?
I do have pre diabetes, and am thinking of switching over to the alternative plan because I still feel light headed, jittery, not able to concentrate, just weird.

I did make an appt to have my thyroid checked, thinking maybe since I lost 20 pounds my synthroid dose may need to be lowered.

Congrats to everyone on their GREAT WI's today!

Well, my ProtiDiet shipment was just delivered this morning! Yay! I just had the Tropical Fruit drink and it was really good. It's nice to taste something a bit different than the IP products I've been ingesting since October.

I don't think I'll be able to give up my Apple Cinnamon Soy Puffs though...those things are to die for :D

Looking forward to a day full of snowboarding tomorrow!! Woooohoooo! The kids are out of school and we're gonna go shreddin'! Cant' wait! :carrot:

Thanks for sharing this. I tried to get my doctor to look at this plan last year and give me his opinion. (He's my endocrin for hypothyroid) He cast the whole thing aside, literally, and told me he recommends nothing other than South Beach. ugh! I was disappointed in how close-minded he was to not even look at the plan!

Thanks again.

Guess my quoting skills need work, sorry!

I just wanted to thank FlooNimbus for the salad dressing recipe. I will definitely give it a try. I was soooo hungry last night that I was too frantic to mess with thinking through a recipe . . . I figured I was so hungry that just EVOO + salt would be good enough . . . I was wrong . . . hungry as I was, that didn't fly very well.

Thanks!

And thanks to everyone who responded with support -- I WILL do this!!

My dh and I are going out tonight with friends, I will be having salad with wf dsg and shrimp and chicken skewers.:) unofficial wi today as I had to go in the opposite direction from my center for work, down another 2 lbs! I'm gearing up for a very busy weekend/week as my brother and his family arrive tomorrow for five nights,we'll be celebrating Mumsey's birthday, and they will be hitting the slopes. I already informed them this is a pizza free zone.:D After they leave I will have to scramble to get ready as we are going to AZ for a week on Saturday. I know first world problems. ;) I am feeling so excited about vacation (totally on plan of course). We are going with friends who have a house out there. They want to take us to vineyards. I told them I am the perfect person to take to a wine tasting as I have to spit it out.:smug:
Congrats to everyone on their continued success. Thank you for being a source of inspiration and information. Heidi

I'm a bit confused because I've read that a lot of coaches steer people away from the restricteds to maximize their loss... and a friend who's coach is also a nutritionist said that in her clinic, the restricteds are actually kept on another wall away from the other IP products so as not to tempt people. I guess I'm just trying to establish whether the restricted product is required daily for maximum loss. I don't remember that THE SHEET says it's required. I use them a couple of times a week, and because my losses have been good so far, I'm a bit afraid to start eating one everyday, but if they will improve my losses, I'd be crazy not to! Those Pure Protein choc/peanut bars sure are good... definitely my favorite part of the diet :D.

The newest P1 sheet is from June 2012 and it is clear that it is 1 restricted per day. Some coaches try to tweak the plan but it works just fine on its own, thank you very much. I'm not understanding why they would make it HARDER during the hardest time (the beginning!). Have your restricted!

Hi all! I did it I had a restricted food yesterday..boy was it yummy! I did go out of ketosis last night though. Is that normal? I'm back in this morning. So we go in and out of ketosis through out the day?
Are you using ketostix to determine whether you are in ketosis or not?
If so, I have a trash can you can throw them in!
They are highly unreliable for many reasons. First, after a while, our bodies become much more efficient with ketones and BURN them, rather than excreting them so they won't show up in the urine. Additionally, if we drink the amt of water we are supposed to be drinking, we may water it down so much that they only show up a trace, if that.
Toss the stix and trust the program. If you aren't cheating, after day 4 or 5, you are IN KETOSIS!

You are correct it does not say it is required. The sheet says only 1 is permitted per day.

I would say that since it's allowed and you like them, then go for it.

Yesterday was week 11 weigh in and I lost 3.8 lbs this last week. That is truly exciting, but even more exciting is that I now have less than 100 lbs to lose before I hit goal. Yes it's still alot, but I figure I only need to do what I've currently done in 11 weeks, about 3 more times and I'll be at goal.

I can do this! I'm also 18 lbs away from my mini goal of losing 20% body weight and 24 lbs away from being under 200 lbs.

My WI today produced another -3lbs. Got to add another little dancing 5 Pounder to my signature line. Also I hit a NSV today. I moved into slacks without elastic...Whoo Hoo :carrot:
Great job Texan! Love the NSV as well.

My ticker makes me so happy today....I love being in the 180's!!! WI today I was down 5 pounds.....crazy!!!!! :carrot: I am feeling super motivated, just can't wait for the rest of this weight to come off....come on goal....you're in my sights :dizzy: Have a wonderful Valentines Day everyone!!

hehee....your post was so exciting to read with all the exclamation points and dancing carrot!

Isn't it funny how great that ticker can make us feel? It's a constant reminder of how well we are doing and how well IP works.

Thanks!

You're doing just fine :) Although my personal inclination is to NOT set yourself up for having the same packet every day, every meal - our bodies crave variety and you may find after a while that your body tells you it wants something different by holding onto the fat a bit. Nutritionally you aren't getting anything different packet to packet - but mental satisfaction translates to the body too.

RE: Evening primrose oil - are you thinking of taking it for a particular reason? The only *modestly* verifiable benefits from it are related to PMS and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Okay, thanks, gals. . . I can't tell you how much your reassurance means.

It says on the Phase 1 protocol sheet to not have restricteds for the first couple of weeks, but I see by looking around here that many people do and have no problem. I just might have to do that.

It actually DOESN'T say that anywhere on the Phase 1 protocol sheet that is directly from IP. Some coaches seem to steer people away from restricteds for various reasons - some seem to think it will "help" the weight loss (it won't - the restricteds are DESIGNED to work within the confines of the diet), some have clients avoid them because they are basically sweets and snacks - trigger foods for some people. Regardless, you can have one per day if you want to. Some find they actually lose better if they have one every day.

Hi all! I did it I had a restricted food yesterday..boy was it yummy! I did go out of ketosis last night though. Is that normal? I'm back in this morning. So we go in and out of ketosis through out the day?

NO KETOSTIX! :) If you are drinking enough water you will show no ketones. Toss 'em.

You mentioned one of your 3 IP/alternative foods should be a restricted, and this was stressed by some posters on another thread yesterday too.

These coaches, they make me crazy!!!

The diet works, it doesn't need to be "tweaked" for "better" losses. No, restricteds aren't required, but the diet is DESIGNED to include them. So if you want one, have one. Every day if you want. There have been plenty of times that restricted is what kept me sane during the diet :)

Ahhhh....I have a few minutes to spare, decided not to go to work today...started off with a 6.5-mile run, observed at my sons speech therapy, volunteered at his preschool Vday party, now a leisure lunch at home and decided to run to Old Navy and see what the maternity rack sales are good! Hope everyone has a great OP day!

I talked to my doctor about this (He worked for years in an obesity research facility), and he said he completely endorses this plan, and because we are maintaining plenty of protein intake, it won't send us into starvation mode. I heard people saying "Trust the plan," but I needed a second opinion. ;)

Woohoo!!

Yay! I also had WI this morning and lost three pounds :carrot::carrot:-- and couldn't agree more about the value of the answers, recipes, and inspiration here.

Go back into your signature in the User CP, look for the code where it says something like 200/150/175 -- and change the last number to your current weight.

Happy Valentines everyone. Just sitting down to some tea and getting away from those damn valentine cupcakes I made for the kids/family today. First time baking and it was HARD. As well as those made a giant fruit tray with french cream dip for sons class. Props to those of you who work with sweets on a regular basis (Scorbett????). I love to bake, but have steered clear. So today I just did a boxed cake which I never do and then had my son (8) be the taste tester for the icing. Icing was hardest to get through. So hard not to lick a finger. Off to weigh in about 20 minutes so really really hoping for results after getting through that.

On another note tried the mug cake and wondering if anyone else feels the way I do about the cakes/cookies.....I prefer the batter before it's baked. I know, kind of gross, but way tastier to me.....

Well missed my originally scheduled weigh in as my daughter decided to get a bead stuck up her nose....so hospital suctioned that out and I was able to get squeezed in and so happy about the results today. Down 2, but 5.75 inches. I kind of don't even believe the inches as that seems like so much too me, but I am just going with it. And she said 1.5% body fat was really good. Which I don't understand at all. Anyone know about that???? So I would say it was worth the tough times over the cupcakes that I resisted and am looking forward to my restricted treat tonight.

I've had a really odd day. I got my period two days early which never happens. My cramps have been brutal, and i've been super duper gassy. I did a search for "gas" and "farting" but I wasn't able to find anything for ideal protein. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what do you do to get rid of it? I feel like someone is tearing up the inside of my stomach....

Had a great WI today. Down 5.2 and 4.5 inches. Didn't think I would do that well. I'm so happy with the results and glad when people comment that I look good. I'm a third of the way there"

As good as my results were this week, I'm even more happy that my son came home today. It was so good to look at his face. They grow up to fast. He is 6'4" and he has been watching what he is eating and lost 20 lbs in 2 months. He isn't big for his size, just hit 200 lbs. his little sister (4) was glad to see him and didn't leave his side for an hour. He said he is looking forward to home made food and I will indulge him while he is here.

Hope everyone has a great nite. TGIF!!

Zoiks! You could be living in my house. DS eats lego, coins, Kinderegg toys... I thought after the first trip to the hospital, it would be a "clear" learning experience due to the "natural consequence". By the 3rd time, I was like "You're kidding right?..." These will all be great "stories" one day:D

First of all, this program wreaks havoc with hormones. Weird TOM is just par for the course for many people. As per the other "issue", I'd say look at the veggies you're eating and see if that's the culprit. I also find some bars have different "sugar alcohols" in them. With a couple brands I eat, I feel kind of yucky after. You're tracking your food. Maybe you need a "bubble" chart to rate ... the um 'bubbles'.... so you can connect what you're eating, to what you're experiencing later in the day.

I know it will make good stories. My son was tic tac once it started to disintegrate and burn he was sorry. I wish my daughter had a more traumatic experience. I think she had too much fun. I'm surprised nothing has happened with all the Lego in this house....

Tell DH that's not a REAL gift unless he's using it to cook YOU dinner! lol

Personally, I avoid all plastics in the microwave. If you decide to try it though, don't forget the "whisk" part! ;)

People mix the puddngs and find they taste better after having stayed in the fridge awhile -- get colder and thicker.

I know what you meant and was just tryin' to razz ya! My theory is, if it's supposed to be drank (drunk?) raw anyway, and you just put LESS water in, how is that a bad thing? BUT, once you put eggwhites in it, you're into the "salmonella" thing, so that would be my only word of caution. Lick them fingers all ya like -- till you crack/pour the egg.

I find I taste the vitamins after and someone suggested putting the fish oil in the freezer so that it's farther into your system when it thaws and absorbs. I store my whole vitamin pack in the freezer now (somone tell me quick if that's wrong!) but the burping/vitamin re-taste is much reduced for me.

Rock on! A bubble chart is likely necessary at this point!!! Thanks for all of the feedback/recommendations. I do eat a lot of kale and cabbage, so that might be the culprit.

Ladylunk - great NSV (non-scale victory)..... baking and not licking the frosting off your fingers. I know how tough this was for you! The great thing is NOW you know that you can do it! And each time you bake and DON'T do any sampling, you will become stronger and stronger and the process will be easier for you. Just remember, if you have a really tough, "woe is me - I deserve a taste/lick" moment sometime while baking, the best thing you can do is remind yourself that all these baked goods can be made again, AFTER you reach goal and are in maintenance - when you can have a bite/piece legitimately! Very proud of you  Jen

Ladylunk - I am also willing to risk my health in order to indulge in cookie dough, etc... but of course, NOT while 100% OP. I don't know if this is true or accurate, but I heard that the risk of salmonella has more to do from a dirty egg shell than the raw egg whites. If you crack a dirty egg shell and then use your finger to scrape out all the whites, you could cross contaminate. So, I've been told that if you know you are going to eat raw batter or cookie dough - to wash the egg with soap and warm water FIRST (to clean the shell thoroughly) before cracking it against the bowl. Again, not sure if it's true, but thought I'd share. Jen

That's very interesting about the eggs. I know shells are so dirty, but honestly just never thought much about the salmonella since I have been doing it since a kid. What about the people that add raw eggs for protein? Does that even still happen?

Thanks so much for your kind words. I guess today was a nsv!

I make 2-3 days worth of pudding at once and leave them in the fridge. I prefer them that way, sooo cold and much thicker!

I wouldn't microwave the shaker.
