Default So, what if you have to be physical on IP?

My husband and I are moving next weekend and will be hauling a ton of furniture. I know it's going to be a hard weekend and burning up a lot of calories. So what do I do in regards to IP since physical activity technically isn't allowed?

I would definitely add a non restricted packet after you are done moving, or even during.

You definitely want to have an extra unrestricted item either in the middle of your moving, or after you're all done. You may also want to have a slightly bigger breakfast - Make an omelet with 1 whole egg plus two egg whites, and have your restricted packet in the morning. You'll get a protein boost plus have the extra carbs from the restricted to burn.

I've never heard of no physical activity while on IP. My coach advises me to workout. Is there a reason why you're not suppose to workout?

I've been on IP for a week and a half, my first WI was just this past monday, I lost 6lbs and 5 inches.. My next WI isn't until Tuesday, but I wanted to weigh myself this morning anyway; I'm down another 6 lbs in less than a week. I have been going to the gym 3-5 days a week depending on my schedule. I've also been going to the gym before I started IP.

WHy not physical activity? What am I missing? lol

I'm no athlete so you'll get better answers I'm sure, but I think the theory is that this is such a low cal diet that if you burn more in exercise you can be losing TOO many calories. Your body may go into the 'starvation mode' mentality and actually stall your losses. That's why people recommend an extra pack when doing exercise.
Find a post by "John" -- he's a bit of a fitness guru and will explain why everything I just said isn't right and give you the real info. I'm allergic to exercise (it gives me nasty symptoms like red blotchy face and I feel all hot and flushed, might even get sweaty-- sure signs of an allergy right?....) so when someone says I can't do a ton of exercise I lovingly sigh and say "Mine is not to question why..."

It's the very low calories - your body is not properly fueled for muscle recovery. You can add some exercise after week 3 or 4 once your body has adjusted to ketosis, but even then you need to add MORE food - an extra packet shortly after finishing exercise - so that your body has what it needs to let the muscles recover. Your losses are pretty typical of the first few weeks on IP (lots of water weight disappearing) - so I would not say the exercise "helped". Many find that exercise actually slows down the losses. For some, that's a trade off they are willing to take because of a love for the exercise.

Ya, I'm in week 3 and doing just light walking and jogging 3 times a week and I just grab a IP bar after the workout and I feel great!

Here are some posts by a long time veteran. Lots of info here:

Be careful with cardio and this diet. Search the forum for threads containing "exercise" and you will realize just how important that you have a protein drink soon after cardio. With this super restricted diet, your body burns what reserves it has on hand (normally where sugars, carbs are burned) and then if there isn't enough in the oven to burn, your body will tap into burning muscle tissue (which MAY contain heart tissue) to "survive".

See? Told you someone wiser would help out! Thanks for the posts. New question: Do you have a great way that you saved these or how did you find the posts. My "searching" skills on IP suck, so I read it once and store it in "old term memory" so some things aren't as accurate up there in with the nuts and rusty bolts.
Is there a better way to "save" favourite posts?? (not subscribing to a thread -- I know how to do that)
