Ideal Protein Diet - I am pregnant!

View Full Version : I am pregnant!

I have been sitting on this news for about 2 weeks now. Debating how to 'disclose' this information, if I should wait, etc. I am still pretty early (6 weeks along today), I am not telling my family or friends until at least 4 more weeks. I have my first Ob appointment in 2 weeks. VERY excited - this happened faster than I thought it would - we officially started trying in December and I guess it just 'clicked'. I am happy, excited, scared, nervous and can't keep complaining to my husband about everything - that's what I have my IP family for!!!!

Morning sickness officially kicked in today - nearly lost it when I opened up my lunch, which was a delicious dinner 2 days ago. For some reason the smell just affected me crazy today!

Anyways - I still plan on sticking around, still plan on posting my menus, still plan on working out, still plan on putting in my $0.02, and will be asking for advice and sounding off, venting, etc. The reason I started IP in the first place was to work toward a healthy second pregnancy and I have been maintaining for 4 months and established a great workout routine that I am continuing and have made some modifications to (no more Bootcamps, just Bodypump & running).

Thanks everyone!! I am very happy, but also scared and nervous at the same time. I will be leaning on everyone for support and venting!

I had an unknown pre-existing back condition when I got pregnant with my son, I was overweight and of course that coupled with the stress of the pregnancy aggravated the condition (spondylolysthesis). I now have 3 vertebrae out of alignment that creates 2 bulging disks, which aggravate 2 nerves running down my leg. I threw my back out 3 times severe enough for bed rest and had chronic back pain until I lost the first 40lb on IP and have been pain-free since. I knew if I wanted to have a healthy second pregnancy I needed to drop the weight.

This has been my "plan" all along and I hope to continue down a path for a healthy second pregnancy!

This *1000! I am definitely comfortable with the idea of gaining as the pregnancy progresses. But I do plan on monitoring my gain & logging my eating and also discussing it with my Ob in more detail at my next appointment. I am eating WAAAAY healthier than I did the first time around and have learned so much.

It will be so exciting reading about this new development.

Not sure if you are familiar with the Bradley Method (an alternative to LaMaze)?
I'm not pushing the method, I just know that the recommended diet's foundation is a lot like IP P4 (well, with lots of dairy and bread) in its emphasis on getting 100g of protein a day.

Please do come back here often and chime in. It's already been said but you really have been an important part of my personal IP journey so I'd love to know how you're doing post IP. And like USMCvet, I am reminded of you when I roast veggies, have purees in my soup and mix some spinach in my morning smoothie. I also think of you and your dedication and determination when I am feeling big and stuck...I think, "Well, LizRR has done it so it's possible..."

So glad you shared your news. Blessings on you, the baby and the whole family!

LOL - I am still surviving on those spinach smoothies!!!!

Congratulations Liz!! This will be an exciting 8 months for all of us! We're with you, every step of the way. I wonder if all the healthy eating contributed to the rapid conception?

I have to admit, I was very nervous putting babymaking plans on hold for almost a year because of my age (38). It took me 2 cycles to get pg with #1 when I was 35yo, so maybe I just have late blooming fertility. I do think waiting the first couple of months in P4 was a good idea as my cycle was whacky for a while.

Congrats, Liz! So happy for you. I am going to become a Grandma in August so we can share baby stories!

I can't believe you are going to be a grandma!!!

I posted this update on the Maintainers thread, but figured I would repost on my old zombie thread. I am not following IP now for obvious reasons (post partum and breast feeding), but going back to my veggie basics and incorporate the healthy habits and recipes I learned through my first journey.

****************************

Hey everyone! I had my little girl, Payton Ann, 4-weeks ago today! We picked her name on Saturday, then I went into labor on Sunday, and had her on Monday! She is just the sweetest little thing, I forgot how precious little newborn smells and snuggles are - but the 3-hour sleep shifts are just like I remembered! Her days/nights were flipped the first 2 weeks, but we are now getting contiguous sleep shifts.

I ended up with a c-section, but healed up pretty fast and was walking around within 2 days, and never took any pain meds (although the first 2 days I was pretty sore). I am DYING to get back to the gym and lift & run, but still have 2 more weeks until I get cleared. I do bust out our little treadmill for short 30-minute walks while she naps. I credit the continued weightlifting with my quick recovery, I actually hit up Bodypump the Thursday before I went into labor!

Unlike my last pregnancy, I never suffered any pains in my back, knees, heel (plantar fasciitis), or wrists (carpal tunnel). I totally went gung ho on eating these first few weeks, but am trying to get back into a groove now that I am not ruled by pure exhaustion or pregnancy cravings. I need to return regularly back here to stay honest, I am nursing, but that's no excuse to "let loose".

She was 9lb 2oz & 20". I have big babies, my son was 9lb 7oz & 21". I blame my 6'4" hubby, he was a 10lb+ baby (my poor MIL, she is tiny).

I signed up for a half-marathon on feb 15 as my motivation to get back to it @ 6-months post partum. The last one I ran I was 18-weeks preggers and I stopped jog-walking completely at 28-weeks...it's been a loooong break for my sneakers!

Thanks everyone! I just realized I had Payton 1 year and 1 day after hitting official Maintenance! She is now 4-weeks and 2-days old and snugglerific! I am doing more posts on the Pregnant-Nursing forum and adapting IP habits into my daily menu - lots of veggies, Sunday veggie prep, even my beloved spinach smoothie!
