On Tran Tien's website, see at lunch where he gives list of vegetables to avoid: avoid cherry tomatoes but 1 or 2 regular tomatoes per day are okay because they are not that sweet.

I had read through this a few months ago and noticed how different it was from the phase 1 protocol being distributed now. I have his book as well and was thinking it was the original IP diet and that they have now updated it?. When I first went on IP in 2010, we were only allowed 5 oz of lean protein at night (or 7 oz of fish/seafood). Now, I see, we are allowed 8oz, it must be because those extra 3 oz don't slow weight loss and keep people satiated better?

I love tomatoes and used them several times a week my first time on IP (from Dr. Tran's book), however, the protocol sheet always said only once a week...I wish there was an explanation as to why his site/book protocol differs so much from the sheets that are distributed. Perhaps either way works? Anyone know?

I have no idea. My sheet and my coach tell me tomatoes (doesn't specify which kind) once per week

And....my coach said that if I want to add a little tomato to all of my salads "for color", that it's perfectly fine. She is new to IP (6 mos max) so I don't know if she knows "the latest and greatest" from the most up-to-date training, or if she didn't understand all the training and is mis-informing her customers.

I guess it depends on if you're following that plan or IP. IP is an alkaline protocol and tomatoes may have been cut du to the acid level.

It is also important to note this website may be out-of-date. It varies significantly from his new book.

There are definitely differences between Tran's diet and Ideal Protein. Tran's plan was the basis for IP, but there were a lot of changes made along the way before turning it into a commercial product. The principles behind them are the same (low calorie, low fat, adequate protein for preserving lean muscle mass, ketosis for getting rid of fat and dealing with satiety) and that is what I take away when reading Tran's pamphlet.

I think the more we all understand about the science behind this diet, the more we will be able to understand how our choices can affect our progress. I really appreciate all that is shared on this forum. :)
