-Sat in a car, except when I was walking from the hotel to Chez Cora in Montreal, and then walked around Walmart in Plattsburgh.

I spent a week in Montreal several years ago, loved it. The exchange rate at that time was in my favor and I SHOPPED ! I had to go buy a new suitcase to fit it all, I swore my friend to secrecy, never to tell anyone I went to Montreal and went to KMart !
PS the trip to Kmart was to fit all my purchase from a great mall. I just couldn't resist when the salesclerk would "Madame, is perfect". I was going through a temporary thin period in my life at the time.

20 minutes Stairmaster stepmill, resistance at nine, random intervals
60 minutes back & biceps routine
40 minutes back on Stairmaster, really trudging for the last eight minutes or so & counting them down second by second

To the new people at the gym: I welcome you all, because I was once new myself. But ... do not use the seat of the lat-pull machine as a stand for your coffee and cellphone. It is not a small cocktail table. Nor is it a coat rack. Particularly if you are not using it. Otherwise this makes me keep glancing back at it, to see if it's unoccupied yet, and messes up the sequence of my workout, as I try to work around it -- and makes me anxious, because I am watching the gym's clock before work, worrying about whether I'll be able to finish my routine before I need to be home again & online. And I am a sensitive person who dreads any unpleasantness, so it's hard for me to say, "Excuse me, are you using that?" Because half the time, when I say that, no matter how politely I phrase it, it puts the listener on the defensive. So please don't use the equipment to hold your stuff. That is not what it's there for.

I'm in this thread this year...

January 1-4: no formal exercise, sick. Did some halfhearted yoga during those days trying to clear my head, but nothing real.

January 5: 10 min warm up stretching. 20 min weight circuit workout, 45 min elliptical, 10 min cooldown
January 6: 3.2 miles of treadmill intervals, mostly running with a few .25 mile high incline walks for a change of pace

Shannon!!!! WELCOME!!!!! You are one of the people whose athletic efforts I so admired when I joined this forum a few years back. And Jessica was training for a triathlon; now she's training to grow & deliver a baby. And Becky was swimming & swimming. And Meg was training people, I believe. I miss Meg.

Monday, Jan. 7th:

55 minutes elliptical, resistance at nine, random intervals, a weird number because I warmed up for 10 minutes before my training session, then went back for 45 minutes more afterward.
60 minutes circuit training class

I'm not counting the training session with its deadlifts and attempts at a clean-jerk and military press, and the few minutes on the abductor/adductor machine, because we went light with the weights and I worked on form. So very little sweat, very little heart-rate increase. Just ... learning. Watching, learning, doing, correcting.

Krampus, that is scary, and I know what you mean, from my two years of urban powerwalking & running out-of-doors in all weather before I joined a gym. Please google "Yaktrax." That was my solution. Those things are amazing. I don't run out of doors in snowy or icy weather anymore -- arthritic big-toe joints limit my high-impact efforts -- but I still wear mine just for walking places in this area in bad weather. And they are not just for the athletic, they have really helped a few of my older relatives, who had confided their fears of walking in the snow to me.

That's amazing! I may invest in some, and suggest them to my mom, who is super wary of wintry terrain ever since sustaining grievous facial injury falling on ice back in 2004.

20 minutes Stairmaster stepmill, aerobic setting, resistance at nine
60 minutes shoulders, chest and triceps routine
40 minutes Cybex arc trainer, hill intervals, resistance at 10

And in the evening, 60 minute yoga class, to try it again.
Re-learning what I'd forgotten: Nothing makes me feel more ineffectual and anxious than a yoga class at the gym. I was, once again, the heaviest woman there. This is not at all like the classes that I took at CNY Yoga Center in Upstate NY, which is what helped get me through the aftermath of the flood. I already know that I don't like yoga classes held at gyms as much as yoga classes at yoga centers, but somehow, I forgot.

krampus - I've never used Yaktrax, but I've heard great things about them. I think Jessica was talking about them a couple of years ago, too.

Saef - thanks for the welcome! I'm not doing anything particularly inspired on the workout front right now. I remember those workouts of a few years ago, oh how the mighty have fallen. The one I did last night was light compared to those and I thought it was going to kill me. :)

Hadn't seen her in any spin classes before so she may have been learning the "choreography" of the various positions we go through, though she didn't tell the instructor she was new before class began. Now in January many instructors are starting the classes by asking the room in general if anyone is new to whatever we're doing. Particularly for spin so that they can fit the new people correctly to their bikes.

60 minutes total on elliptical, resistance at nine, alternating backward & forward. This was split as a 10-minute warmup and then 50 minutes after training session.

My training session today was again in deadlifts, doing the clean jerk, and today we used the squat cage. I am a beginner at this, but wanted to record where I am with each move. These are for 10 reps apiece:

75 lbs squat
70 lbs deadlift

Jan. 18: mat pilates class (Afterwards a very sweet woman who only ever sees me lifting weights told me she was impressed by how graceful I am, which is really a surprise to me because the whole time I was feeling like a football player in a room full of ballerinas. Made my day!) Also, 65 min elliptical and 40 min DOG WALK! woot!

Getting back after sick. No exercise from 1/9 which was a rest day though 1/15.

1/16:
30 min workout from workout trainer, focusing on wall exercises. Wall sits, wall push ups, planks and push ups with feet on the wall, etc. It was tough. Followed with 30 mins on the elliptical.

1/17: off

1/18:
'Fit Fall 20x20' workout from my program - 20 exercises in 20 mins, 1 minute per exercise. Hard. 30 mins on the elliptical.

Exercise is harder than it used to be right now. Some of that is from the sick I think, some is probably from being out of shape. Meh.

Workout debate question-- I'll see if any of you have an opinion. I'm weighing in this Saturday and am really trying to up my workouts to hopefully shave a pound or two off by then. Last Thursday I thought I would go to Zumba from 4-5, grab a salad, then go to Bikram Yoga from 6:30-8:00 (would have gotten there about 6). I went to Zumba, then got the salad, decided I was full and freezing (from sweating in Zumba), so I went home. So, my debate is for this Thursday....
Do I
a. try a version of last week but this time go home and clean up quickly and have a small bite to eat rather than a meal and then go to yoga?
b. do back to back yoga classes with having a small break and snack in between?

I'm leaning towards B because I'm afraid if I go home I won't want to go back out and if I'm at yoga, I'll stay there..... But, I really like Zumba......

I guess C would be to go to Zumba, go to Yoga and take a shower there before the class starts and have a snack as well???

Hmmm... Well in my opinion it's always good to mix things up, so I would like to do the Zumba followed by the Yoga rather then 2 yogas. But I know what you mean about going home and then not wanting to head back out. If you have an ability to take a shower after Zumba and having your snack before Yoga, that's what I would do, because you would warm back up and not be so tempted to head home.
