Welcome IdealProteinNewbie! Great job on your losses so far!

I think Wuv (who is a coach) had posted about the PB puffs, she made a good point that when they discontinue something it's usually because they are going to come up with something new/better to take its place - let's hope so!!

Busy day ahead of us today - I have a couple of baking orders to bang out this morning, deliver, and get home in time to do some Christmas activities with the kids. Our local zoo has a holiday members-only event today, and we still have to get them to see Santa (parent fail!!). Also have to pick up hubby's Christmas present from Best Buy and stash it somewhere he can't find it :)

Busy running-around days like today require a lot of planning ahead, because there's always a VERY good chance my schedule will get derailed or delayed somehow. I'm having some veggies in my morning omelet for starters, then I only have to carry 1 cup of chopped veggie with me later. Dinner tonight may be out of my crockpot, but I may just hit up Applebees depending on how late we get done with everything. SO glad Christmas shopping isn't on the list of To Do's!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Welcome, Nitney! 80 lbs lost..that's great!

Good morning! It's gonna be a long day! I've been up since 2:00 am, and will probably crash later (sometimes I get insomnia...not often, thankfully). I've already been to the grocery store for my last trip before Christmas. I have LOTS of cleaning to do, since we are hosting Christmas Eve this year. I am expecting probably 15 people, including the three of us. It's fun, but exhausting. Christmas Day is nice, though, because it's just me, hubby and our son. We open gifts, then have a lazy day.
I have had lots of difficulty staying on program the last few days...this hectic time of year plays havoc with an eating program like IP that demands so much planning. I've been too busy to eat dinner on a couple of occasions, skipped lunch yesterday in order to do paperwork at my desk, and keep forgetting packets and supplements! I've decided I'm not going to stress over it, I'm just gonna get over it and vow to do better after all the Christmas stuff is over. I even cancelled my weigh in for next week because I just need a little mental IP break!
So my New Year's resolution will be to CONTINUE losing weight (instead of starting a diet for once, lol!) and I think I want to start a little strength training...feeling very jiggly lately, and I'd like to do something about that.
Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Tam67green I hear you! I've had the same problem the past week or so with skipping packets or supplements forgetting dinner or veggies. I've also had some of protein at lunch and then eaten another 8 oz at dinner because it's been so hectic that I forgot and didn't look at my tracker until after dinner! Fortunately, I still lost this week, although not very much. This time of year it's so crazy that we just ave to do our best and keep going. it will be great to not have to make a New Year's resolution to lose weight this year! Much easier to say I'll continue doing something instead of starting from scratch.

Good luck to everyone doing their final Christmas shopping, cleaning, and errands!

Even though I just started posting I have been using this forum since May so I literally feel as though I know everyone. So...I have a small vent and also something that made me feel so appreciated. I work in a doctor's office so I see patients every so often. Well, I saw someone I hadn't seen in a few months and she said "Wow, you look so great!" I said "thank you!" and she then proceeded to say "But, you're losing so much slower than my friend who did the program." How's that for a back-handed compliment lol.

However, yesterday patient's brought in Christmas presents for the staff. Most people know I'm doing IP but gave me Godiva chocolates anyway (which I promptly gave to our receptionist) but one patient gave me a Crabtree + Evelyn lotion and bath gel set and told me how proud she is of me and my weight loss so far. I just found that sooo thoughtful and considerate especially when she went out of her way like that.

So I guess I'm trying to say that people can surprise you in both good and bad ways, but I'm concentrating my energy on the ones that make me feel good!!!

Hey IPeeps - I posted in a couple other threads...but I've been at the high end of my +/-3lb 'safe zone' and have been meaning to get some Phase 1 days to get to the lower end. The past 2 days I have been off of work I have veered off course by evenings end - the unstructured schedule and 'losing track' led to bad mojo. Definitely need a plan when I don't have my regular work schedule to keep me away from the kitchen - posted my plan today in the 'What are you eating today' thread- I credit that with helping me get through Phase 1 and need to remember that in maintenance. Especially during times like now, when I find myself home with all the food just a few steps away! And no ketosis to help curb the hunger and cravings!!!

I didn't go crazy, and my extras were 'healthy', but it definitely didn't add up to a Phase 1 day.

I cannot find jicama anywhere. Dying to try this.

Isn't it crazy we (at least me anyway) would not eat all day and then eat like a pig. Now I have to remember to make sure I finish my packets, water and vitamins during the holiday craziness!!!

If it was the day I ran into you at the market, I picked one up while I was there :) They are usually right around where the snow peas are, they look like light brown blobs :)

Hi all - haven't read any posts..I'm literally too tired and just got home from the hospital today. Had a rough, rough time with the knee surgery replacement/revision. Pain was the major issue and I'm now on dilaudid and oxycontin, yes both at the same time. My blood pressure got really low and my temp got really high. The fever seems to be gone now but the blood pressure is still an issue. I found out that 85/35 isn't a good BP
.....put on 9 lbs while in the hospital and eating nothing,literally....my leg looks like a Jimmy Dean sausage link and is prolly carrying 10 lbs of water!!! what a trip this has been....
2013 you better be ready for me becuz I am going to give you he** if things don't improve drastically!!!!

Glad you're back, Maezy. Sounds like you are ready for the healing to begin!

BTW, when my mom was in the hospital recently with blood clots, we noticed that the bed she was on would also take her weight. She didn't like the answer either, but her leg was swollen up to where it was about to pop.

1 gallon of water = 9 pounds, so no doubt your weight gain is from all the swelling and then some.

Successful Phase 1 day today! Ended up veering a little off my original plan, but a proper day for sure. Didnt get my run in this evening due to family arriving earlier than expected, but squeezing in 6-miles tomorrow @6:30am with my running group. Me & my mom are making tamales tomorrow, havent done this in years and its a tradition i definitely want to pass down, not the healthiest food but thats why we only make them 1x/year and give them all away!

LizRR - will you go through ketosis again, or just a couple days of P1? I have wondered how that works - if you gain or decide you want to do a few days of P1, do you have to do enough of it to get to ketosis?

Some people do a "Reboot", theres a thread on that - after reaching goal if a few lb creep up and you need a few weeks more than days to get back to a happy place that is appropriate. My coach had told me that gaining a few lb/year is totally normal and recommends a yearly WI in Phase 4 (at least) where an annual reboot can be done if needed (she was explicit to tell me at no charge, don't need to keep buying products).

In Phase 4 you can do a few Phase 1 days to keep any 'creep' at bay. Unlike P1, frequent home weighing is encouraged - we also get a "fun day" which must be followed by a P1 day. I adopted another maintainers rule of a +/-3 lb safe zone, but have been at the higher end for a few days now and am getting nervous, especially with the holidays starting. Definitely want to stay on the low end! This is why I am doing a few P1 days.

As for getting in ketosis, that is for the "Reboot". The occasional P1 day in P4 as my coach explained it to me (and this is 3rd hand from a few months ago), it's low calorie - that is still the key to weight loss, and it keeps insulin production low - which is the hormone responsible for fat storage. It works too, at the beginning in particular you freak out, at least I did, over the scale - and I NEVER was emotional about it in P1. But a P1 day was always there for the fix while you figured out your P4 schedule.

I will admit I am "looser" in my P1 days than I was the 1st time around. More liberal in "lighter" veggies like spinach & celery and now add in unsweetened Almond Milk (30 cals/cup, 1g carb/1g protein/2.5g fat). I would not have done that before in P1 "proper".

Liz: Cook yourself up some chicken soup. I had a couple of yucky days but I am well on my way to recovery now. I used celery, bok choy, and leeks to keep it P1 compliant. And I cooked the carcass to make the chicken broth...healthy AND yummy! What a yuck time to be coming down with something...

We're going out with friends tonite. They chose a steakhouse b/c they knew it would be easy for me to eat there...my friends ROCK! I love the support I'm getting there.

Dinner with fam tomorrow will be meatballs & pasta. They said they ordered some meatballs without sauce for me. I just found out so I'll call today to thank them and explain the meatballs probably have off-plan fillers so I'll make my own meatballs to bring. I'll also offer a veggie tray b/c there are usually appetizers that won't work for me. The big thing is dessert at the family gathering. I'll freeze some WLS cocomint pudding to bring with me.

Then Tuesday our plane leaves at 10:30 am for FL. We'll be in airports most of the day (long ATL layover). I'll pack celery and cukes b/c they'll travel well. I'd prefer RTD but I understand TSA doesn't like them in carry-ons so I'll bring packets and get a salad in ATL.

Planning!

So far so good staying OP this weekend. Tomorrow the gang will order chinese so I will bring my own food to make life easier.

Question for everyone--the last few weeks I have been feeling very fatigued and weak. Anyone have this while on the diet? I'm about 3.5 months into IP, and have had no deviations (to my knowledge).

Hello all! I am so glad to have you all to talk to about this program. I was at a holiday party last night and some folks were asking about mthe plan I am following, then proceeding to tell me why it won't work! I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut! LOL

Of course there was a ton of bad food but I did great, especially when I realized that someone had brought venison moo-shu in a crockpot...and he's following a low carb diet! So I ate some of that, a couple of devilled eggs and one venison meatball. I was doing great, only a little bit off plan...unitl someone opened up a bottle of Apple cider Jack Daniels and offered me a taste! I went ahead and had a shot, then realized what I had done!~ I know it wasn't that bad but I can't believe that I just took it without thinking! (It was fantastic BTW...not too strong and I bet it'll be great warmed up...next year for NYEve).

Well I'm off to make some puress, thanks to Liz and her wonderful recipes! I took a look at your profile Liz and I can't believe how similar we are! I'm and engineer too! You are such and inspiration to me...plus I love to cook so I love your recipes!

Maezy, I hope you feel better soon! Hopefully that water weight will just disappear as quick as it came on!

Question for everyone--the last few weeks I have been feeling very fatigued and weak. Anyone have this while on the diet? I'm about 3.5 months into IP, and have had no deviations (to my knowledge).
A couple things come to mind. Are you getting in all of your oil, salt, and water? Are you only eating low fat meats? Some folks have found having a nice steak fixes that if they'd been trying to go "too low fat".
I had the same problem for a few days and increased my salt intake again. It went away.
My BP is up slightly from the increased salt but I'm not worried b/c it isn't through the roof and P1 is temporary (10 months or-so for me, but temporary nonetheless)

Hello all! I am so glad to have you all to talk to about this program. I was at a holiday party last night and some folks were asking about the plan I am following, then proceeding to tell me why it won't work! I gotta learn to keep my mouth shut! LOL
They are absolutely right. It won't work b/c they don't want to do it.
For the rest of us...just look at the success!! 100% on-plan REALLY works!
I'm not trying to change anyone but me! If anyone else wants to do it, the more the merrier! If not, I'll move on alone (but I don't have to b/c there is 3FC-IP)

Planning!

Have fun in the sun Lisa! Are you going to do some shopping?

Thanks for this advice. I did have a juicy ribeye steak last week (yum) and didn't see a change. I have been going lower on the salt, so I'll try to double up tonight and see if that helps. It so happens I love salt and have very low bp. But my husband says I'm too heavy handed--see what he did!! :)

Maezy you don't want to just stop your pain meds. It will take time for the healing to decrease the pain and you will need to ween down on the meds, or get changed to something different but don't try and stop cold turkey before your body is ready. Dilaudid can be quiet strong and make your head fuzzy if it is to much then you should speak to your Dr.

I've been 100% OP; however I'm feeling dehydrated with a parched mouth. The only thing that has changed is that TOM came to visit 3 days ago. Could this be the reason why I'm feeling so dehydrated?

So, I'm taking a vegetable plate for Christmas and making my own food. I literally cannot find a ranch dressing, besides WF, that is compatible with Phase 1. So, I decide to make my own. What an undertaking in research.

So since sour cream is out of the question, I thought I'd make my own mayo (eggless) and then add ranch dressing type spices, spinach, and then I would have a ranch dressing dip.

I found an eggless mayo recipe however it has ground flax seeds in it which is a no-no on Phase 1; however all of the other recipes I found made the mayo a little more soupy. So I made the mayo with flaxseeds. No harm in flaxseeds and actually really good for you; however for the 1 tbsp I added to the mix it has 3.5 g of fat and 2.5 g of carbs. The entire mayo recipe is about 1.25 cups so I don't think that's too bad.

Oh and I'm making vegetable sushi really instead of just laying the veggies out. Here's a link to where I got the recipe: http://www.livelovepasta.com/2011/08/vegetable-sushi/ Can't wait to see how it tastes. I will tell you, I'll never ever ever by store bought mayo again. That homemade mayo had so much flavor it was ridiculous!!!! Love it! I used grapeseed oil as well instead of olive. :D

Dilaudid is a very strong painkiller and over used where I work, so it's a bit of the joke with the staff. If you need it, take it. But I agree with Monica, if it is too much for you, let your Dr know, there are other meds to take.

Rainbow posted a homemade mayo recipe in her thread that is totally on plan - unless you can't have the eggs it should work for you:
