100 lb. Club - New Year's to Valentine's Day - Resolutions

Last year I started a New Year's Resolution thread from NYE to Mid Year. I thought it worked out pretty well but a lot of people dropped out because they felt like it was too huge of a chunk of time to be accountable.

This year we're taking a smaller bite!

Make your New Year's resolution. If you don't make resolutions and want to make a goal, that's fine too. It doesn't have to be a specific weight or a specific size but it does have to be SPECIFIC (i.e. Don't write "I want to be healthier." If you want to improve your health, how are you going to measure that? Do you want a specific blood pressure range? Do you want to be able to run a mile nonstop? etc).

Next you're going to write what you're going to do from New Year's day to Valentine's day to make that happen! That's approximately 6 weeks (or exactly 44 days). What will you do for the first 6 weeks of 2013? How will you make your resolution happen?

Copy and paste this format. You'll be coming back each week to update your progress (find the entry and click edit). And this thread will be available for us to chat about the challenge, overcome struggles and celebrate successes.

Once Valentine's day comes, I will start the second challenge to lead us to our next holiday.

New Year's Resolution: By December 31st, 2013, I want to be maintaining my goal weight of 112lbs.

From New Year's to Valentine's Day, my resolution is to lose 3/4 pounds. (Weight loss is slow :?: I doubt I'd lose more)
Start Weight: 129lbs (31/12/12) I'm starting 2013 with a scale break for the month of January but I will continue to come back and edit each week about my progress.

Week one (ends Jan 5th):
Scale Break. First week of January has been successful. I've been sticking to eating reasonably well (some munchies at times) and drinking a lot of water. In the middle of exams right now so my exercise has been all over the place with some days doing enough (at least 30 minutes a day) and other days doing barely any.

Week two (ends Jan 12th):
Scale Break. Had exams since last week. Thankfully finished now. Exercising was kind of lacking this week. Now I have two weeks off in which I will be fully committing myself to healthy eating, water and exercise. During the week I found a 12 day exercise plan to kick-start any weight loss programme. It is a mixture of cardio and circuit training. So, today I will be looking up the exercises on how to do them proper and start the programme tomorrow. I'm actually fairly excited! Hopefully these two weeks will get the scale moving once again and when I step on it at the end of January, there will be a loss.

Week three (ends Jan 19th):
Scale Break. Exam time is well and truly over now. I was able to get back into proper workouts during the week. This will hopefully continue onto next week. The programme I found didn't suit me so I just stuck to walking, my stepper and weight lighting. Looking forward to next week as it is again another chance to keep some butt before my scale break ends. I would like to see some losses. I feel like I gained some weight during exam time with some comfort eating too.

Week four (ends Jan 26th):
Scale Break. This week wasn't too bad! I'm still exercising but I did slip a little with food and didn't many great choices during the week. :?: This has been worried for my weigh in during the week. I'm just going to work hard today and tomorrow and work around my new college timetable next week and hopefully see a loss. And most importantly, go back to better eating! :D

Week five (ends Feb 2nd):
Scale Break is finally over. And I'm very annoyed with myself. This week has been awful to say the least. Exercise has lacked and my eating has been out of control...I'm back to college now and the first week has been pretty successful since we were given all our assignments. I guess I just pushed everything aside. I weighed in at 137lbs this morning...Maybe some is water weight? TOM is here also, so some weight could contribute to that. But I'd imagine some is a proper gain. :( I knew I was having a bad week and said to myself that February 1st was the time to get back on track after a pretty off January. I was almost going to leave this challenge because of the gain but I decided not too. And if I lose a pound or two by the time February 14th comes around, I will be happy.

Week six (ends Feb 9th):
No weigh in.

Week seven (ends Feb 14th):
137lbs. No results. :?: Tomorrow is another day.

2/11 Started a strict 14 day cycle giving up just about everything that could possibly be affecting my progress. To complete this challenge, I am just trying to get below 260! Update: Didn't make original goal, but made edited goal and finally got into the 50s! Total loss: 12.6

New Year's Resolution: I don't want to put down a weight but I want to be eating super healthy whole foods and work out at least a half hour everyday, an hour would be better. I would hope to have lost at least 80 lbs. I just want to be healthier physically.

My new years resolution is to lose 15-20 lbs and to not be too hard on myself if I don't make it but to be Grateful for the losses I will have and to love the body I'm given myself. Also to stay on point with water consumption, the past two months I've slacked with water intake, and I plan to improve that. Also to hit the gym again 3-4 days a week and begin running outside again, the cold weather kind of put a kink in my running.

My NYR is to build up strength and continue to push myself to work out more often. I will complete two kettlebell workouts a week in the first 6 weeks of the new year. Weight-wise, I believe that I can hit 230 by February 14th, which is my next mini-goal of losing 25% of my starting weight.

My NYR is to be at 213 before 2013 is over.

My New Year's to Valentines Day goal is to weigh 269 or less. This is number I have not reached yet in my weight loss and it will be great to get out of the 280's and 270's for good! Another goal is to work on controlling binge snacking! Goal is to lose 14 pounds. 2lbs. per week.

This is the first challenge I have ever entered!!

SW: 283.0 (previous lowest weight was 273)

Week one (ends Jan 5th): 280.2 (2.8lbs) I haven't been to the gym and did not stick to my calorie counting, just trying to "dejunk" and get back on track from the holidays.

Week two (ends Jan 12th): 282.4 No OP days, didn't go to the gym. I'm having issues!!

*Went to the gym the 15th and 16th!! Such a big step for me, I didn't do much but just being there was great. Today I had my first OP day in 7 months! The next weigh in is on my birthday. I'm hoping to just see 279.0 on the scale as a gift to myself!

I stuck with the last challenge (http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/100-lb-club/260921-mid-year-new-years-challenge.html#post4387085) and made good progress, but wasn't able to plug my final numbers in until well after the new year. :) I'm happy to start on another challenge! However, I'm going to tweak the dates to correspond with my weekly TOPS weigh-ins.

New Year's Resolution: To lose 52 pounds by December 31, 2013! That's obviously one pound per week, and will put me at an unfathomable 175 pounds.

From New Year's to Valentine's Day, my resolution is: To average a one pound loss every week, which will bring me down to 220! This is especially important to me since I've never been anywhere under 220 since junior high. I was going for 5 per month during the last challenge, but given my results that seemed slightly ambitious. Losing about one pound per week is both realistic for me and very easy to track.

Oh, and one other goal: I was hoping to fit into a particular orange shirt by Christmas. While it definitely fits, it doesn't look so good on me yet. :( I figure another 5 pounds or so may be enough, so I would just love to be able to wear the shirt for a fancy Valentine's Day dinner! :val1: If I make it I'll post a photo here!

Notes: No meeting and no official weigh-in this week or the last, but I sneaked off to the hospital yesterday and borrowed the same scale we always use. Good to know I'm on schedule so far! I'm going to work extra hard this week, despite spending this weekend at Grandma's house! I really, really want to hit 220 by Valentine's if I can make it.

Week two (Jan 9th)
Goal Weight: 225
... Actual weight: 225
Notes: I made it I made it I made it!!! Even though I spent a few days in California at Grandma's, where there was a lot of eating out and other potential treats that I managed to cope with alright. Feels great to hit my goal for the week!

Week three (Jan 16th)
Goal Weight: 224
... Actual weight: 223
Notes: I am in shock that I lost 2 pounds this week! Maybe I'm catching up from my holiday stall? I did work extra hard so maybe I earned it; I'm hoping that working extra hard this coming week will yield similar results. I simply cannot wait to get to the two-teens and I'm closer than ever.

Week four (Jan 23rd)
Goal Weight: 223
... Actual weight: 221
Notes: I can't believe I've gotten ahead of schedule!!! Can I possibly keep this pace up by Valentine's day? Only one more pound to my mini-goal of 220!!!

Notes: Well goodness, I hopped right back nearly up a pound. So much for being ahead of schedule, lol. But I can't complain at all, I'm right at my goal so I'm making good progress. Still can't wait to see the scale dip down below 220! I have a feeling that I might have gone up a little due to the C25K training I started the night before my weigh-in.

Notes: Well, I'm technically at 220.25, but I've been rounding my numbers to the nearest pound. I was secretly hoping to get slightly under 220, but that will definitely happen in the next challenge anyway, and possibly at my next weigh-in! I'm slightly disappointed that I'm not more excited over reaching a specific. long-awaited goal that felt completely impossible for ages, but maybe it just hasn't sunk in yet? I spent so many years wistfully longing to get down to 220, and here I finally am. It feels so surreal.

I like the idea of this challenge, one step at a time, setting smaller goals along the way. 2012 was a failure in terms of weight loss, but that will not be the end of it for me.

Ok..NOTHING of my plan is working out. The day after I put up my goal my family and I were hit by a drunk driver while sitting at a stop light. We are injured but nothing that needed hospitalization. They thought I bruised my spleen but the CT scan shows it to be ok. I just havne't been able to eat anything but soup and that might be stress and just bruised my ab wall and or something..could even be a nerve in my back not sure. So I have lost a lot of weight since I put up my goal but I am afraid when I start eating again it will all come back on as well as some more. I also for obvious reasons can't work out until the doc says so. but I still have my goal and when I am able I will put my plan into action.
Starting weight 263...

Week one (ends Jan 5th): 253 10lbs lost but I am VERY hesitant to even count this and don't expect it to all stay gone once I start eating again. That is one reason I won't change my signature just yet..

onmewei - I understand your hesitation. I had the stomach flu, lost 6 pounds and then gained it back as soon as I was well! Oh well. Guess I will have to do it the old-fashion way!

I am bummed that the scale isn't moving for me but I know WHY. I've been have a glass or two of wine, snacking on some leftover chocolate. Generally, NOT following my plan. But in my head, I am eating right and exercising the rest of the time so that shouldn't count, right?!? Oh... Right. :)

Hi ladies.. Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday. Last night was a little rough for me since I was asked to bake and it's so hard to bake something delicious and not eat it. I allowed myslelf a small piece and counted in my calories. I was 104 cal over my allotment, but I'm ok with that. It was either that or waint until everyone was sleeping and eat the whole darn thing.. lol.. don't laugh it has happened before... Once or twice.. Well, the scale moved a little more yesterday, but I'm not counting it. I'm only counting it on my weigh in days. I not have two weigh in days since my family, a few friends, and I are started a little weight loss challenge. I made it so that one ends the same day as this one. Its kinda fun because everyone pitches in 10$ and the winner gets the 10$ at the end if they lost the biggest % of weight at the end of the 6 weeks.. I love to scrapbook and can't really afford new stuff all the time so that is a big incentive to stick to this..
Anywho.. Hope everyones doing great.. Keep on keeping on!!

I bet you will win the $ challenge. So sorry to hear you are sick. I keep hearing on the news that the flu is really bad lately so it makes me nervous being around crowds. I see someone coughing or sneezing without covering and it makes me want to avoid the area and hold my breath. :p

Can't wait to see everyones losses this week. For me not sure there's going to be one. I'm completely 100% OP but two days ago I was a pound up and today I got on the scale and I'm another pound up so I hope by tomorrow it will go away. I know daily weighing can mess with your head so I'm not letting it get to me. I also woke up very puffy today so that might be my problem as well.

Today is the first day of my work week so I hope I can have another OP work weekend like last weekend. I haven't ever been able to do this two weeks in a row so it's going to be hard, but I know I can do it. I'm going to Sprouts later to load up on veggies and fruits so I don't have to buy anything at work.

Well... I am down one pound from last week. Am grateful for that.That's one pound since I started with this challenge. I always say: one pound equals four sticks of butter!!! I did get to move my ticker down one too. That's always feels good. I kind of feel like I am getting into my 'rhythm' of healthy eating.

I would just like to say that I am freakin' OWNING my period this month. TMI? sorry! Last month I got soooo tangled up with moodiness and cravings and it was Christmas food and family and ugh, TOM was a complete disaster. This month, as soon as my "pink pad" app on my phone sent me the "aunt flo is coming" message, I went into hyper-prepare mode. Planned meals, planned snacks, I even planned SLEEP so I wouldn't get that fatigue... I am sooooo in charge. :drill:

I just use the ap Lose It! on my phone to track my calories (my phone is always with me, so it's easy to stay on top of) and treat my workouts like they're appointments that I can't miss. I'm also just starting so I think I can account some of the loss to my body just cleaning out all the crud that's been building up... Looking at your tracker I'd say you've done pretty awesome with your weight loss as well! Do you use a certain program?

Wow, you've done great even for just starting. I started my wt loss Jan. 4th last year on my own at first. I then started Ideal Protein for a couple of months until it got too costly. After quitting that I started slipping back into my old habits and before I knew it put 30lbs back on. I restarted the wt loss again this past October and have been keeping at it since. I have mainly just been doing low carb. I'm determined to get to my goal this time. I would probably be there by now or close to it if I hadn't stopped those 5-6 months last year. But I guess what's important is that I got back on the bandwagon. Good luck to you, keep it up, you're doing great!

I have been extremely happy with my food choices over the last week, and I saw a good loss this week. I am going to incorporate some more exercise this week and try to keep the numbers falling.

Goals for the weeK:
-drink more water
-Walk everyday, even just 30 minutes
-watch salt intake.
-Lost another 3 lbs by the weekend.

No real movement on the scale for me in the last week except for half a pound. I'm not all that surprised because I've been fighting that ridiculous flu/cold thing that's been going around. I also have to count in a lot of the weight training I'm doing. I definitely noticed a difference in my stomach. I just can't wait to be back in the 180s and back to no longer being labeled 'obese'.

Went to the gym last week for the first time in a decade. I signed up for a personal trainer for three sessions to get off on the right foot. I had the fantasy of some muscled hunk for a trainer like you see on the celebrity TV shows. What I got instead was a skinny geeky 28 year old (30 years younger than me)! So much for that fantasy!

But he was very nice and showed me some core stretches for flexibility and introduced me to the latest weight resistance machines. I went back two more times last week on my own and it was not intimidating at all. I can do this! It will be easier to lose weight adding an exercise plan than just starving it off on a diet alone.

I would really like to lose 12 by Valentines but I know my TOM is coming up shortly as well and those whole 2 weeks, time before and after included, are usually my worse for the month. I'd call us runners! I am going at a very slow pace, or else I would have never been able to go that far. :) I think I overdid it the other night. My foot has been killing me ever since. If it doesn't feel better in the next few days I'm going to have to see the doctor. I must have been landing on the outside of the ball of my left foot with each step, it is sore to touch now. Hope it's not a stress fracture or something :(

Thanks.. I hope I make my goals. I was up right before TOM Im in the middle of it and lost that pound again. So hopefully it's gone forever..lol.. I couldn't believe how much it changed my whole attitude. Since I started on the first I have been positive. I mean I've had hard days, but it's been relatively easy to keep motivated and then BAM Tom came and the day before I started I just didn't care and I wanted everything!! I made it through, but it honestly scared me because usually when I mess up I quit. I did not quit though and I'm proud of myself.

This week wasn't that great for me, poor meal planning meant that I either ate lunch on-the-go or didn't even eat, which caused some overeating at night. Meal planning really works for me, just got to keep at it. And this week I am starting to incorporate exercise, so more pounds will be lost.

With a 1.6 loss for the week, I am very excited to say that I have met my goal!!!

My new goal is going to try to get into the 230s, but I am going to leave my Valentine's Day ticker where it is - I really like seeing it say that I'm past my goal! :D

New Year's Resolution: By December 31st, 2013, I want to be back in Onederland and at a new low (under 198.8).

From New Year's to Valentine's Day, my resolution is to be 245 or below (lose 12+ lbs) in the 230's.

Well, our weigh in day i did not lose a thing.. But literally the day after and the day after that i lost 4 pounds.. haha.. isn't that the way things go. I am hopefull though that I can make my goal. I only have 6 pounds until Feb 14th. I can do this!!

I hear you Angelia! I actually gained this week but I am blaming it all on TOM since I know that I didn't eat 14,000 calories over my mtnc cals...I don't even remember any days that I went over my goal calories so it HAS to be water weight. Dumb hormones. :) Looking forward to a whoosh next week...

New Year's Resolution: Get my blood sugar level and cholesterol under control

From New Year's to Valentine's Day, my resolution is: Keep a food journal, not snack at work, and walk at least 20 minutes 5 days a week.

I feel good about the adjustment to planned snacking. I can't cut down to as light of a lunch as I've been having and then wait 6-7 hours until dinner. My blood sugar goes crazy and I get the shakes and can't function again until I've eaten and my body recognizes that I've eaten.

Week two (ends Jan 12th): Food journal kept, no snacking at work, and walked every day--17-40 minutes

This challenge has really helped me because I needed something short enough to get me started and it did just that. I am still OP and still feeling good. I am going to the gym consistently (at least 3 times per week) plus I did some hiking last Saturday to see the elephant seals at Aņo Nuevo State Park (just south of San Francisco). Four hours of tramping up and down sand dunes--boy, did my knees and hips complain on Sunday! I also stuck to my low carb diet very well all week (less than 1400 cal. per day) except for one bowl of clam chowder after the hike.

So of course I gained a pound last week. Sheesh--maybe it was the salt in the chowder and water retention. Or I remember reading somewhere that muscle weighs more than fat, so would going to the gym make me weigh more? Looking for an excuse I guess but it is not encouraging to not lose any weight when one is being so good on the diet and exercise program.

I am holding steady at 254. Did not get on plan to exercise this week. I am tired, so I don't exercise and then because I don't exercise, I don't have enough energy to exercise. It's a neverending cycle that I have to break this week! But I am happy that so far in the New Year, I have been succesful at keeping up with healthy food choices. We have not ordered out a single time and I have not given in to temptation to eat crappy foods, victories in and of themselves for me.

Still stuck at that 269 mark. I can still make it pretty easily to goal by the 14th, but I wish I would have seen more of a loss the last two weeks. I manually changed my daily points down by three and cut my weeklies in half, so we'll see if that helps push me over the edge here.

I made it past the Super Bowl party (had lean chili, no beer). Too bad the San Francisco 49ers lost though.

I was sure I could make it out of the 250's by January. But this is slower than I hoped so time for a reality check. Still, when I look back at the start of January to the start of February, that's 8 lbs. gone so progress is happening.

I agree, this has been a great challenge - I really like the idea of reminding myself of my overall goals for 2013, while working on a smaller time frame. What would be the next good milestone holiday?

I could be self-serving and suggest April 15, because that's my birthday! But I'm not sure anyone else would find trying to lose by Tax Day particularly inspiring. :lol:

Next challenge could be Easter, as it comes a month-and-a-half later. Just a suggestion.

So no loss yet again, but no gain. I don't know why I am not losing any weight, as I am eating very well, fruits and veggies, planned meals, better controlled portions, no eating after supper, etc. My metabolism must be at zero to not burn more calories :?: But I am not giving up, eating well is part of a life change for me, not just for weight loss.

I completely agree - July 4th will be a good one but I do better with these short term ones to focus on. So I am thinking Easter or April Fools, then Memorial Day, then July 4th, then Labor Day, etc., etc. I need to keep going all year but that's too much to contemplate. But 6 or 8 weeks at a time? I can do that!

I need to lose .6lbs by Thursday morning to make my 20lb Valentine's Day challenge. I think I can do it!!!

I like the idea of April 15th which makes it about 8 weeks with March 17th about the halfway point.

But I will do anything you ladies want, this really kept me focused and on target. I thought I was going to come up a pound or 2 short but my 3.8lb loss this morning saved me!

I started at 227 and wanted to have an average loss of one pound per week in order to make it to 220. So far, so good. :) I weighed in at 221 last week and get to check my final bit of progress tomorrow (I weigh on Wednesdays). I've been staying on plan as usual, so I'm hoping to reap in the reward of reaching my goal! It's super-exciting since I haven't been anywhere under 220 since I was in junior high! :dizzy:

I won't actually get to go to a fancy Valentine's dinner since we'll be celebrating FIL's birthday that day. Which is fine, lol . . . maybe I can wear the orange "goal" shirt for my birthday dinner on Saturday? I still haven't decided whether or not I'm comfortable in it yet. :o

I'm thinking I won't make it to the 230s on Thursday but then I realized how silly it was to get too hung up over that. I exceeded my original goal already, possibly I will even add a bit more to that total. And I'm close enough to the 230s to know I'll be there soon. I couldn't have said that on January 1 - I was close to being back into the 260s (all time high, at least at a time when I was getting on the scale). So whatever the number on Thursday, I am in a much, much better place than I was - and I know that with moving on to the next leg of this challenge, I'll be in a better place on April 1 than I am today.

So it's all good.

Week seven (ends Feb 14th): Food journal kept, limited to planned snacking at work, and walked 4 days out of 7--30-60 minutes and lots of spontaneous walking on my weekend away.

As of this morning, I'm down 12.2 pounds since January 7th. I'm thrilled with my challenge results! On to April Fool's Day! (I'm not updating my ticker until I stay there a day or two)

I squeezed out a final .6 lb to finish up with a total of 15.6 lbs since January 6. Another 1.6 lbs to get into the 230s would have been fun but I can't be anything but happy with how far I've come so far.

New Year's Resolution: By December 31st, 2013, I want to be back in Onederland and at a new low (under 198.8).

From New Year's to Valentine's Day, my resolution is to be 245 or below (lose 12+ lbs) in the 230's.

Well didn't make my Valentine's goal.....has not been a good week. Been battling constipation and water weight. But at least the scale has gone down from where I started.

Great success stories on this challenge, that's great to see! I did not reach my goal, despite a very honest effort. I can't beat myself up over it, it won't help me in the long run, but I am not happy about my results.

Final result for me: lost 19.6 of 20lb goal. So happy! And so close! Following Sarah's lead, my percentage lost vs. goal is 98%!

This challenge was so fun with all of you! Congratulations to everyone who hung in to the end!

I made it to my goal of 220!!! Well technically I weighed in at 220.25 last night, but I'm in the middle of TOM and had eaten a late lunch . . . plus I've been rounding to the nearest whole pound lately so I don't make myself get too crazY. Even though explaining all of this probably makes me so anyway. :p

Oh, and one other goal: I was hoping to fit into a particular orange shirt by Christmas. While it definitely fits, it doesn't look so good on me yet. :( I figure another 5 pounds or so may be enough, so I would just love to be able to wear the shirt for a fancy Valentine's Day dinner! :val1: If I make it I'll post a photo here!

Regardless, I think I'm ready for the orange shirt, and since I said I'd post a photo . . .

The first photo was this past summer, the second is from this morning. I've been wanting to be able to wear this shirt comfortably in public for ages now; it had been a gift from my aunt last year but was way too small (I don't have any photos of how ridiculously small it was on me when I first got it, since I could barely even get it on then). :lol:

I loved this challenge! It's still pretty surreal to me that I've made it to the magical number of 220, which seemed unattainable to me for many, many years. Why has it been my magical number? I've hit the 220's twice in my life but have never managed to get anywhere under. I don't think it's quite hit me yet that I've come this far with no signs of slowing down. :dizzy:

This was a great run! I lost a total of 14 lbs..... My goal was 15, but I am not gonna beat myself up over 1 lb!! See you on the April fools day thread!

Congrats to all you losers and the ones that made their goal! Lots of big losses!!! Great job!

I did not make my original goal, but I ended up with a loss of 12.6 so I am still happy with the results. I am going to do much better on the April 1st Challenge!

It sounds like people did really well on this challenge. I only lost 10 lbs--not as much as I hoped for but it's an overall loss at least.

Hey guys.. Better late than never. I started to type this a few times today, but kept getting pulled away. I did not make my goal, but I came one pound away so I'm happy with that.

My goal was to lose 25 pounds. I lost 24. So I went from 310 to 286. I am happy with that... On to the next challenge.. Great job everyone!!

Didn't reach my Valentine's goal (I had some plan-compliance issues around my husband's S1 midterms, which I'm sure contributed!) but I still lost 17.2 pounds, so I'm not complaining! On to the next challenge!
