I'm oh so very frustrated! My first seven weeks I lost 24.4#. This last seven weeks I've lost 5.4#. I really have no clue what's going on. No, I haven't been measuring inches, but judging by the way clothes are fitting, inches don't seem to be pouring off either.
Here's a typical few days of IP Alts for me:
B: Frappe made with 1/2 packet ProtiDiet Oatmeal (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/breakfast-items/protidiet-oatmeal-cinnamon-spice-7-box.html), Flavored ground coffee (usually Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Spice), 1/4-1/2 cup EAS Carb Advantage, ice, and water--Usually have this during the work week OR WLS Cereal (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/breakfast-items/weight-loss-systems-cereal-berries-n-chocolate-crunch-7-box.html) with splash of EAS Carb Advantage for 'milk'--Usually have this on the weekend
L: WLS Zesty Chili (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/dinners-and-entrees/weight-loss-systems-dinner-zesty-vegetable-chili-with-beans-7-box.html) OR WLS Chicken & Veggie Soup (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/hot-soups/weight-loss-systems-soup-chicken-and-vegetable-cream-7-box.html) plus 2 cups broccoli/cauliflower
D: Big Mac in a Bowl, or slow cooker chicken, or steak, or fish, with acceptable seasonings, plus 2 cups of veggies--usually broc/cauli mix, what can I say, it's cheap and I like it!
S: Proti-Thin Wafer (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-bars/proti-thin-protein-wafer-squares-mocha-5-box-2-squares-serving.html)--when I have the frappe, or Proti Diet Chocolate Dream Bar (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-bars/protidiet-protein-bar-chocolate-dream-7-box.html)--when I have the cereal

Things that have changed since I started:
Was using Millstone Caramel Truffle coffee but switched to the DD Pumpkin
Was having the Healthsmart variety pack (http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/protein-bars/healthsmart-protein-bar-crispy-variety-pack-7-box.html) where I am now having the wafers.
Was drinking Crystal Light flavored water, but went back to plain
Started using Mrs. Dash on my veggies instead of soy sauce to cook my vegetables in
I do measure all meat & veggies on a digital scale. I do get in my minimum water (usually it's closer to 96 oz.) Have not been good at taking my supplements (but it's been like that since the beginning. They make me feel sick when I take them. Today I thought I might go buy a pill crusher and see if that helps.) Don't actively exercise.

Does anyone see what might be causing my issues? I know I've seen Scorbett post about overdosing on the wafers but wasn't sure what the issue was. Anything besides wafer overload that jumps out at anyone. Change the battery in the scale? LOL, if only it were that easy!

P.S. This is a repost from yesterday's daily since I posted so late. Also posting this as I'm walking out the door, so will try to respond to yesterday's questions as soon as I can

The one thing I would replace is the wafers, atleast the IP wafers I was told are very high in fat and carbs.

I saw a reply yesterday about the coffee. After an internet search, I think the source was for the cup of coffee you actually purchase AT DD, not the ground coffee at home. I did locate a blog post from someone who was extremely gluten sensitive who reacted to the flavoring but could not locate a nutrition label for the coffee package.

Are you getting your oil for the day? Make sure you are getting that everyday, it is essential.

Try mixing up your veggies. I was doing cauli every day also (2-3 cups of it), but it seems to be a little higher in carbs than some of the other veggies. Maybe try a smaller amount of cauli and add in a variety of other veggies.

If the crystal light is helping you get all your water in, you can still have it. I think WUV mentioned something about it before. Not sure if I have it correct, but think it was at least 64 oz of plain water and then you can have crystal light in the rest.

I'm finally breaking through an 8 week slow down. Don't give up! Your body might just need some time to adjust to the quick loss.

Okay, so I'm pretty new on IP, but after *many* weight loss efforts over the years, I've found you really need to keep the average weight loss you're achieving in mind. Some weeks you will lose more, some less. You've lost just under 30 pounds in 14 weeks. That's an average of over 2 pounds per week. I know many here seem to lose more quickly, but there's nothing wrong with losing weight at that rate. The rate of loss can also vary by how much you have to lose.

It sounds like there are some things you probably could tweak to speed the loss, but the main thing is to just stick with plan.

Good luck!

The chocolate dream bars are also fairly high in fat and I think only have 10 grams protein, so I would use those sparingly. Also check the chili, that might be restricted to once or twice a week.

Well, I'm back from 4 days out of town. Despite lots of restaurant meals and two Christmas parties, it looks like I managed to drop a few pounds. I'll know for sure when I go to WI on Wednesday. :carrot: The second party was tough since I ended up in charge of arranging the food (sandwich platters, cookies ad other desserts, deviled eggs, popcorn chicken, chips, wine, beer, etc.). Thank goodness for the shrimp and veggies! I also knew not to go to the parties hungry in case there was nothing for me to eat. I really didn't go off plan at all although I substituted egg beaters for breakfast a few times. (I was shocked that I could actually order an egg white/egg beater omelet with no oil/butter and veggies only in a restaurant and they'd actually listen to what I ordered! I had a couple of the best omelets *ever* over the last couple of days!

A lot of what I've been doing over the last two weeks has to do with changing habits. I never would have pictured me sitting in the United Club at the airport in the past with a cup of tea vs. a glass of red wine. ;) The real test will come over the holidays while I'm away for two weeks without a scale, but at least I feel better equipped now. And over the holidays I'll have my own kitchen to work in although we'll still be eating out in restaurants occasionally. We also throw a big Christmas Eve party, but at least I already know what the food is for that!

Here's a trick I found that really works for me on the weekends.

I have to eat within an hour of waking up, I think if I let my blood sugar go to low I start to crave more food.

For me eating every 3 to 4 hours really works, I understand everyone is different.

for me i have noticed the days i am off and wanting to eat more is when i dont eat every 4 hours. and for me it has to be protein not just veggies.

The only thing I'm regretting so far about being on IP is not starting sooner! One side note: While I was away, my husband and I were talking to another couple who are good friends of ours, and the guys were both commenting about what a bad time I picked to go on a diet, with the holidays and all. My female friend, though, immediately disagreed with them saying that I had picked the *perfect* time since it would be protection against gaining weight like everyone typically does over the holidays. :) I have to agree! I know I would have made completely different food choices over the last 4 days if I weren't on IP!

I did locate a blog post from someone who was extremely gluten sensitive who reacted to the flavoring but could not locate a nutrition label for the coffee package.

I was going to say the same thing - when you buy the pumpkin spice coffee from DD, they use a flavored sugar syrup, that's where the carbs come from. The flavored coffee grounds do not have carbs.

The chocolate dream bars are also fairly high in fat and I think only have 10 grams protein, so I would use those sparingly. Also check the chili, that might be restricted to once or twice a week.

The WLS chili is actually unrestricted (12g carbs - 4g dietary fiber = 8g net carbs). But yes, I posted in the weekend thread that the Chocolate Dream bars actually have 68% total calories from fat, and the wafers are also over 30% total calories from fat.

WOO HOOOOOO!!!!! That is amazing so far into the program!!! You are rockin this!

I've been going crazy the last few days, worked this weekend and somehow had to cram in baking orders, getting a Christmas tree, and visiting my in laws. We didn't get to everything, but the orders got out and I picked up an AMAZING tree from the local farm. It's 9 feet tall and because it was their last weekend to sell trees they only charged me 20 bucks! I think it's the biggest tree we've ever gotten. Can't wait to decorate it!!

Week 8 WI this morning and only down .5 lbs.....this is my first week with a loss of <2 lbs. I didn't cheat, but because of xmas shopping, not feeling well one day, and a big family party/dinner yesterday my eating schedule was really off. Two of the last 3 days I've eaten a combined lunch/dinner in the mid afternoon rather than a veggie lunch and then a veggie/lean protein dinner. This week I should be back on a regular schedule, except for next Saturday....not 1 but 2 parties to go to! Will be happy when the festivities are over.:dizzy:

I'm oh so very frustrated! My first seven weeks I lost 24.4#. This last seven weeks I've lost 5.4#.

You & I have exchanged a couple of PMs (before the re-post on today's daily) so I know you're adding the oil.
I suggested changing up your veggies more b/c our bodies can get used to what we're doing and sometimes we have to "trick" our bodies into losing again. We can't get stuck in ruts!
I had a bigger loss this week than I'd been having. I added more lettuce. Don't know if it is a coincidence or not but I'm throwing it out there....
One more thing...I've done your math...you are still at over 2 lbs/week overall...nothing to complain about! No other diet EVER did that for me!

The slowdown can be frustrating if we let it. Use it as an opportunity to make some changes...try some new foods, review carb counts and see if it makes a difference. THIS is where a (good) coach would come in handy but not just "any" coach. Some are surely better than others! Write down EVERY morsel, crumb, drop, (all spices, additions, etc). There would be a bunch of support on MFP as well, if you choose to track there...

I got on the scale to weigh in this morning and am at 165!!!!!!!! That is 7 pounds gone in a week. I am doing the happy dance!!!!!!!! I have also passed my half-way mark and am able to wear my wedding ring again. My week has been full of victories:D WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes. We. Can!

We also throw a big Christmas Eve party, but at least I already know what the food is for that!
I'll be away for 2 weeks as well...no WI with the coach. I'll have access to a scale but it won't be the same scale. So...I'll weigh when I get there and I'll monitor while I'm there. And this friend has food issues as well. I think he's doing HCG right now so I'll be fine...
We can do this!

Blah, 0 loss this week. At least I didn't gain! And I did lose 2 inches. So headed in the right direction, but it was my first 0 loss, and as you know can be a bit disappointing. I'm OK with it- makes me focus even more this week!
No complaints about weigh ins! Its all good! Yes, you are headed in the right direction...no more more blahs or disappointments! Only good thoughts! Nothing to cause stress, which increases the hormone cortisol, which blocks weight loss.

Sometimes the scale does not do what we want but the weight loss journey is more than the scale. There are measurements as well (and remember, they only measure select areas of the body...it could come off somewhere else).

Sometime there are even slight gains & IP even expects it at some point. Look at a LOT of our weekly weigh ins...we have 0 weeks or weeks with slight gains. Keep up the good work! You're doing great!

I hear you on the parties. The first month on IP I would get really concerned about nights out and parties. I am in week 13 now and I don't even worry about it. I just know, I will prepare and most likely not have any food at parties and eat what I can at restaurants. I barely even have to think about it anymore. Good luck and congrats on not cheating.

do you workout with weights?

This was week 8. I have lost 30 lbs so far. I haven't worked out at all yet, but my lean mass went up 2 lbs.
I don't cheat, so I dunno why there was a stall, since I am 100% OP, but I see others stall as well, so I guess I will allow a week where it happens :) Hopefully I get a whoosh next week!

I know I would have made completely different food choices over the last 4 days if I weren't on IP!

This is how I feel, but at least we started and that's the best decision we've made!!

Can't wait to decorate it!![/QUOTE]

Where did you get the tree??? We usually go to Kennys because Santa and Mrs Claus are there. It was very festive this year, everyone in the Holiday spirit.

We went to Silverbrook Farm in Acushnet (not the one in Dartmouth) - this weekend was his last one doing trees, but they are so great there and the tree is gorgeous! I laughed because his first comment to me when we got there was "sorry about the slim pickings"...if these were his "slim pickings" trees, I would LOVE to see what the first pick trees looked like!

The Weight Loss Systems chili that doctorblue is using is unrestricted - it has 12g carbs but 4g dietary fiber which is subtracted from the total carbs because it is not digested. That brings it to 8g carbs, which falls under the unrestricted guidelines.

Visited my center to talk to my coach and pick up some more supplies. Last time I just picked up food in a rush.... I was on the program briefly a couple of years ago so I already know the basics. Anyway, today I told him I am trying to drop sime lbs/inches before a big trip that starts Dec 30. I wanted to discuss strategies for vacation in an all-inclusive resort. I want to enjoy SOME of the food and drink amenities without totally messing up my diet. Basically he told me to use the IP food like a supplement and to consume some complex carbs so I don't go into ketosis. If I introduce alcohol and other stuff on vacation, it will be too hard on my liver if I am in ketosis. Makes sense.... But I am sad because I was off to such a good start (5 lbs) and I realize I can't really do the program until I return from vacation. Glad I talked to him though. i was headed to disaster!

Okay question for all of you. Just starting the IP when I get home from vacation on Wednesday this week. preparing mentally, emotionally, AND created a plan for food and how to implement with my work schedule. Yes on vacation I am doing this because we got snowed in LOL. But, can I get feedback on the benefits of using a coach? I don't have a lot of free time to go weight in and sit with a coach, and am pretty self disciplined when I put my mind to it. So I would love some feedback as I have never done this program.

I did the EXACT thing...made my plan & mental preparation while on vacation. Good for you!!!!

Coach costs more, esp since you can do alternatives to IP foods using this forum.
Coach is good for bouncing ideas off if you run into problems.
You really don't have much weight to lose so I wouldn't anticipate you being on the program very long.
Some coaches are better than others and if you had a good one, you'd have great benefits but if you had a so-so or less one, you'd be better off on your own anyway.

I've just cut my check-in time with my coach from every week to every-other week due to scheduling and feeling pretty confident on P1. I'll want more support moving through P2-4 and throughout maintenance, since I've never maintained a weight in my adult life. That's why I'm keeping a coach.

I think the need for coaches is very individual and depends on how good the coach is...

Happy Monday, everybody! I have a short work week then off to celebrate Christmas!

Recently I asked about eggs in a FAQ thread. I was told to eat 4 eggs and 2 egg whites and I thought that was a lot... I didn't realize the sheet had been updated and apparently my coach hasn't either. My sheet (from Feb '11) from my coach said 2 eggs... so I get to bring that up to her when I weigh in.

My question is, I have done 2 eggs for about 4 weeks now (when I don't eat meat that day), and I have lost consistently 4-5 lbs a week. I weighed myself at home this morning (it'll probably change before my WI after work), and I lost another 5 lbs.... Am I losing muscle because I'm not eating the right amount of protein? I've apparently only been getting about 3.5 oz of protein from the 2 eggs each morning.

Edit: Also, I have only lost 1" around my belly, whereas every other part is losing, which is why I'm thinking I may be losing muscle...

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR THE WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT!!!

And for those wondering, I didn't do anything extra special this week for the big loss. I think it was just a perfect storm, so to speak. My previous week, I had a 0 loss which was probably due to a couple of things including TOM and not enough sleep. This week, I've been really chugging the water, going to bed earlier and getting some red meat in (mmmm, steak!)

As for where you're losing the weight, we really don't get to choose where the weight comes off. I really wish I would lose some more in my belly too, but for myself, I know having kids really messed up that area. I'm not really sure what it's going to look like when I'm all done. I wouldn't assume you're losing muscle just yet. I've noticed I'm losing weight from the bottom up. I noticed the biggest loss in my calves and legs and it is working it's way up into my trunk. Again, that is just me, I'm sure others lose their weight differently!

I started IP in October 2012 and the sheet my coach gave me says 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites (this is the phase 1 sheet that says to follow phase 1 until 100% of weight-loss goal is achieved). There have been some comments in some other threads recently that the eggs have increased to 4 whole and 2 whites....I asked my coach about this today and he said he had not received any notification from the parent company about changes to phase 1, and he hasn't received any updated phase 1 sheets.

I also asked him about the requirement for 8 oz (raw weight) for lean meat/fish/poultry at dinner as I have also seen a lot of comments lately that we can eat up to 8 oz. According to my coach, 8 oz is required. If not, we may not get enough protein to compensate for the muscle loss. During ketosis we not only burn fat, but also muscle as our brains cannot utilize the energy produced from fat, just from muscle. So, it's possible you're not getting enough protein and are losing too much muscle.

Of course, all coaches are different and seem to have different interpretations of the diet and how to implement it.

Definitely talk to your coach about your protein intake and your lean muscle mass, and see if you can get the most up to date phase 1 sheet. February 2011 is an old one.

http://www.idealtogo.com/Library/Fase%201%20-%20ITG.pdf This is the sheet I got from this forum in the first sticky. It says 8oz as a requirement, and did change the egg amount. I'm going to bring it up to my coach... she seems to be a stickler to 100% OP and not altering anything, so I'm hoping she realizes she gave out an old sheet and to talk to someone about the updated.

Where you lose inches isn't really an indicator of whether you're losing muscle. For my body, my waist was the quickest to go down but my thighs and hips are the last to get the message! The weight comes off however it will.

You ARE going to lose some lean mass - it is not JUST muscle but pretty much anything that is not fat on your body, including connective tissue holding all that fat on you. For every 4lbs of weight you lose, 1lb is going to be some of that unnecessary mass.

Hi Everyone..im back..after suffering from Strep Throat for a week and a half.. I lived off of slurpees and popsicles for a week followed with lemon water with honey and tea and chicken broth and then finally some mushy toast in soup and then i was able to finally eat a real meal consisting of bread since its soft...

Point is..after a week and a half of suffering followed by lots of antibiotics ..im finally done with that sickness...but i feel awful for gaining 6 pounds the entire time i was sick..like how did i gain 6 pounds when i was barely eating anything?? I feel so down... :(

Having a rough IP day. 'm up almost 2 lbs. since my WI even though I have been 100% OP. There's been a lot happening with sick family members, and I'm exhausted and emotionally drained. It's taken a lot of willpower not to just drown myself in junk food. I've done it (yay!) but seeing the scale go up is really not helping me feel anything but depressed. Yuck.

Glad you're feeling better!!

Here's the thing:
sickness = inflammation = water retention.

A while back someone posted that you need to consume 3500 calories to gain a pound of ACTUAL fat. So unless you stuffed 21,000 calories of extra food in your face over the last week and a half, that is just water weight and it will fall off before too long. Keep drinking lots of water to flush it out :)

Remember that weight fluctuates by a few pounds over the course of a single day, as well as over a few days. If weighing more than once a week is causing stress (which will cause you to retain water), slide that scale away except for your weekly weigh in.

I showed my coach and she was not angry (I was kind of worried, haha), but she was upset about the lack of communication. She mentioned she gets on a conference call (and I'm assuming it was every week?) and no one has mentioned this sheet. Regardless, I lost another 5 lbs today and it doesn't sound like it's muscle, so she told me to keep doing what I'm doing, and if I'm hungry, add the rest of the eggs in at some point.

I don't do the two eggs every morning, so I think varying it every day may be helping me. That and the 128+ water I've been getting. I loooove water :D

I had a great time yesterday at the Half Marathon in Shiner, TX...www.shinerbeerrun.com! That was a definite Fun Day! I finished it in 2:10 while gossiping/catching up with a good friend who is moving from Houston to Chicago and getting married in 2 weeks in Cancun - we can't go due to finances, but it was great to to be able to 'send her off' in a total Texas race. I did a slower pace than last weeks race, but was able to chat the entire time and feel fine today, I even did Bodypump tonight with no problems.

It was so much fun and my family was there at the end for the festivities, it was also a smaller race so definitely not as crazy as the San Antonio or Dallas Halfs I did recently. It was raining cats & dogs that morning, then stopped ~30 minutes before the race. The roads were actually in good shape for the run. I think the weather might have 'scared off' a few folks too.

I am going to 'lay low' this week and stick with Phase 1/2. I have found myself in a scary place scale-wise and was putting off doing Phase 1 until I did my race yesterday, even though I have been at the high end of my 'safe zone'. But now that it's over I jumped on the Phase 1 wagon today, pulled a rookie move with 2 restricteds in 1 day (Bar at breakfast and Spaghetti at dinner), but oh well.

I dropped off of the 'What Are You Eating Today' thread in Phase 4, but really need to keep up with that habit to avoid unplanned snacking. Also food logging, I was a constant journaler in Phase 1 and started using fatsecret now, which is proving invaluable - I just need to keep up with it!

I haven't caught up on this thread yet, but am about to get ready for bed - got my 6.5mile run tomorrow at 5am!! Need my shuteye!
