Good morning everyone.
I could not even watch the news yesterday. I have it on now.
Tell everyone you love that you do! I'll start with you all... I love you.
12-15-2012, 10:49 AM
Good Morning Chicks!
Couldn't watch the news yesterday. Every time I did, I cried. I'm not a Mother but I am a friend, Sister, Aunt, Great Aunt and I know how destroyed I would be to lose a child or a friend in any way...certainly not in this senseless way. Life is so fragile and short.
Rhonda, I love you too and the rest of my Chicks here. My Dad used to hate eulogies because he said people should tell each other how they feel about each other while they are alive. So Rhonda....good for you!
I'm going to be with my family tonight at a birthday party. I'll be holding those hugs just a little extra bit longer than normal.
12-15-2012, 11:14 AM
I love you all, too. We tried not to watch the news yesterday also. So heartbreaking. So senseless.
The grands and I are going Christmas shopping today. I am so blessed to have them nearby. I missed them when we lived in Montana.
12-15-2012, 06:04 PM
I did a little Christmas shopping today but with a heavy heart. Like most have said on tv, there are no words! I love you guys!!!!
12-15-2012, 07:32 PM
Took our 9 yo Christmas shopping today. Let her choose where to have lunch. She chose Spring Creek BBQ. Now is this a little Texas lady or what?
12-16-2012, 12:03 AM
hi chickies. I love all of you too. What a tragedy. I haven't watched today, but did yesterday and didn't sleep well at all. My heart is heavy. I have a great granddaughter that age and I can not imagine losing her.
Things have been crazy here. I'm so behind in what is going on with everyone.
On a happy note, my great grand won 3rd place in Martin Luther King Jr visual art contest. She placed 3rd in the state out of all the elementary schools. She will receive a plaque and recognition. I'm so proud of her She is only 5. She did a watercolor of 2 little girls, holding hands. One girl is black and the other white.
I can't wait for my daughter to come for Christmas. I miss her and need a haircut really bad. I am holding off, since she is coming soon. Otherwise I would have gone to the salon in town.
12-16-2012, 01:04 PM
Trying to upload wedding cake pics. Hope you can see them!
12-16-2012, 08:40 PM
Pam, congratulations to your grand. What an honor! What an accomplishment! You must be bustin' buttons.
Sloan, I see the cake! Looks delicious. Thanks for sharing.
I have been Christmas shopping both days this weekend with the grands. It's been a WONDERFUL WEEKEND! I am smiling ear to ear.
12-17-2012, 10:27 AM
sloan, cake is beautiful.
Sandra, sounds like you had a lot of fun. Nothing like being with the grandkids to put a smile on your face.
I'm going shopping with my sis today. She needs to get a few gifts and I'm looking for things for my bedroom in KY. I got a wonderful area rug on black friday online (75% off) and have the comforter, so looking for some fabric for a bench I have at the end of the bed. I need new rugs and towels for my bathroom too. I want to make an upholstered headboard too. But that will have to wait until I get back to KY in the Spring.
Have a great day
12-17-2012, 03:54 PM
Sorry for being MIA again. Since changing the clocks back and the days are getting shorter I seems like I have so much to do I really don't have time for the computer.
I spent most of my time getting gifts & for my grandchildren and family. Now that 's done I now have to get ready for the trip down to NY. Got my tickets and the only thing I have to get a taxi ride to the bus depot. I leave this Sunday.
I'm also at the church every day, for Advent Mass and than for the Rosary, going out to lunch with Alice on Tues,Two rosarian friends on Wed,Rita on Thursday & Mary on Fri. I can't imagine what the scale is going to look like on Saturday.
I'm going to meet my new doctor on Friday morning for my 6 month blood test for my Cholesterol and my A1C. My original doctor is now going to be the union moderator for the nurses in the hospital, and will give up his practice some time in 2013.
I saw some of your comments about the tragedy in CT. Its was very upsetting to all here. I watched it for two day SAT and SUN but I just couldn't watch it anymore. Can't think a small quite town had such a tragedy. Now I don't feel safe anymore in a small town or large city. Its all the same as EVIL is all around us. Its time to go back to the Lord.
Have to go,will try to get back before I leave this Sunday 12/23.
12-17-2012, 07:39 PM
Sloan, those are beautiful cakes---and Pam, congrats to your g-grandchild!
I procrastinated about getting a tree and found one for $5.00! It's about 5 feet tall and a little scraggly, but really just fine. Tonight we will decorate it.
I am worn out from my friend's visit. She can really shop! And, me? I can take it or leave it. But, I'm glad she's having fun. Her hip is really bothering her though and I think she might be out for the count. She leaves on Wednesday.
I did buy some new sheers for the bedroom and now have to get rods and hardware--there are only blinds there now.
My house will not be clean for Christmas, but that's OK--we are not having anyone here.
12-17-2012, 10:32 PM
This is the first year that I will not put up a tree! We are leaving on the 22nd for Oklahoma to visit dd and her hubby. Since we will be staying until after Christmas, I don't see the point in pulling all of the Christmas decor out. We are very excited about our visit! Maybe next summer I will get back to OKC and try to hook up with my Texas chick friends!!
12-17-2012, 11:45 PM
Wonderful weekend in Boone, NC at my son's college graduation .
Today I finished shopping and tomorrow night we are doing our family
Christmas dinner & gifts. After that the boys leave for Africa & I will
have time to rest & then head to Ga for Christmas week with my brother's
My house isn't clean either but clean enough..
After Wed I plan to get strict about my diet & exercise..
I put up a small tree( 4ft) and my 6'4" son just said it's the first time he has had a tree shorter than him..next year I may have to go back big...
12-18-2012, 01:12 PM
Good morning. I am through subbing till next year. (That just means till January.)
I am making us a good CORE lunch. Later today we're having a small birthday party at my son's for 10 yo Alexa.
My brother is having vascular bypass surgery on his right leg Friday in an attempt to save his right let. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Sloan and Rhonda, if you two meet somewhere, please let me know and I'll try to drive up and join you. I think I can do that if all is going well with my brother. I'd like to see you two.
We aren't putting up a tree either. We do have the spirit, though. We're just going to enjoy others' trees, especially the ones at my son's. (Am I getting old or lazy or both?)
Nancy, I am trying to eat CORE most of the time. I quit WW last week, so I'm trying to be extra careful. So far so good.
Maryann, have a fun, safe trip. Sounds like you're prepared.
12-18-2012, 11:03 PM
Sandra..I will be praying for your brother...He has had a hard year..
We did our family Christmas dinner & gifts ..Wonderful evening...I love to let the wrapping paper pile up knee high as we unwrap. When Robin and I had our first Christmas together he began to clean up each paper as a gift was unwrapped and I convinced him to let it pile up for me ...We laughed tonight about how hard that was for him because he had some OCD tendencies..
Kinda nice that the cooking, shopping and decorating is all done for me..
I have been really tired lately even when I get extra sleep..Time to get
on track with diet & exercise and see if that helps..My daughter gave me a yoga mat and yoga DVD ...
12-19-2012, 01:02 AM
Nancy, I have started walking in the morning before school. Within the first three days, I had a dramatic increase in energy during the afternoon! Hope exercising makes you feel better, too! Your Christmas celebration sounds nice. I'm glad you will able to spend the rest of the holiday being a guest! Have fun with your brother in Georgia :xcheer:
Sandra, I will keep your brother in my prayers!
Hope the rest of you chickies are having a wonderful time getting ready for all the Christmas festivities!!
12-19-2012, 11:44 AM
Sandra, I'm praying too!
12-19-2012, 04:10 PM
Thank you all for the prayers. It's hard to be optimistic but we're all trying. He let his guard down with me this week and showed me his vulnerability. Sad....
I'm picking up the grands from school today. That always makes me feel good.
Nancy, I'm glad, too, that you'll get to be a guest the rest of the time. Enjoy yourself!
Sloan, Curtis and I have started walking, too. It does help give energy.
Vickie, I am having an "Oops" today. The wagon just ran over me.
Ya'll have a great day. I'll catch you later.
12-19-2012, 05:01 PM
I have been listening to the news these days and I am heart sick at the terrible tragedy that has struck CT. Our prayers are with all those who lost a child or someone close to them during this shooting. It just all seems so senseless.
12-19-2012, 05:06 PM
company gone...taking a nap...back later :faint:
12-19-2012, 06:40 PM
It is senseless--heartless, too.
Meandu, I read your blog. I have battled with guilty/loneliness, too. Today I gave in and sabotaged my eating plan. Tomorrow will be better. Good success to you. I'm planning on good success, too.
Rhonda, bet that nap felt good. I could tell by the photo on FB that she has a lot of energy. Ya'll must have had a great time.
12-20-2012, 01:18 AM
Enjoying a day of just hanging around the house today with my boys..
12-20-2012, 03:55 PM
We're home from town. We met my gf for some training then had lunch at a local Mexican restaurant.
12-20-2012, 04:50 PM
Not loving the weather that is coming in with the boys flying to Africa tomorrow. Not sure where they layover yet.
I may have to do some "distraction" Christmas shopping for myself :D
12-20-2012, 07:42 PM
Sandra, your brother is in my thoughts and prayers. Hope everything goes well for him. He needs some good news for a change.
Nancy, hope your boys will be safe on their trip to Africa. Do the ex in-laws go there every year? I remember they stayed home with you last year.
Hi chickies. Been busy. My daughter and her family are suppose to come here on Monday. I think the traffic will be really heavy. It's usually a 10.5 hr trip but I know it will take them much longer.
We had tilapia, baked sweet potato, slaw and coconut shrimp for dinner. It was delicious. I think that is my fav home cooked meal these days.
12-20-2012, 08:19 PM
Pam..That is a long trip for your daughter . I know you will be glad when they arrive. The coconut shrimp sound yummy, are they hard ?
The ex-in-laws do a huge trip every few years, different places..Yes, last year both boys told them they were not going and leaving me alone my first Christmas without Robin.. This year I am doing great and we just did our normal things early..
Does anyone know how to make a light fruit dip ?? I have had some in a deli
that tasted like a cream cheese but thiner..
12-20-2012, 11:23 PM
Nancy, the shrimp is very easy. I dip cooked shrimp in beaten egg, then roll in unsweetened coconut. I put a small amount of olive oil in a pan and brown both sides. I also dipped mine in sugar free marmalade and it was as good as the shrimp at Outback. I make a dip for fresh fruit. I take 8 oz. light cream cheese, add some sugar free/fat free pudding mix (not the whole pkg). I use french vanilla. Mix well and add about 1/2 small tub of lite cool whip, and i add some of the juice from the mandarin oranges if too thick. It's very tasty and on the healthy side. I cut up strawberries, fresh pineapple, mandarin oranges, kiwi. You can add more fruit of your choice, but those are my favorites.
12-20-2012, 11:55 PM
Pam, thank you for the recipes. I love coconut shrimp.
Nancy, let us know what you buy tomorrow. I'm always nervous, too, when my loved ones are flying. Driving, too, for that matter.
I talked to my brother a couple of times tonight. He's in good spirits.
12-21-2012, 12:28 AM
Here, reading, will write tomorrow....man, I'm worn out
12-21-2012, 07:35 AM
Happy "End of the World" day, y'all.
Lord willing, we are leaving for Oklahoma City in the morning (prayers for travel safety appreciated). My dh, ds, and I are spending Christmas with dd and her hubby. Of course, we are very excited! I will have my computer with me, so I will check in again before Christmas.
The recipes sound yummy! TTFN
12-21-2012, 03:02 PM
Ended up spending the day with my grandson instead of shopping.
There are nice outlets in Ga near my brothers house , so next week
will be better anyway..I want to look for a new pocketbook..
Going to see Ice Age this afternoon at our dollar theater .
12-21-2012, 06:12 PM
Baking cookies and trying not to sample!
12-21-2012, 06:29 PM
My brother has been in surgery since 7 AM. Still no news. I know vascular bypass takes a long time. We're being optimistic.
12-21-2012, 09:43 PM
Sandra..That is a long surgery..Let us know when you hear..
12-22-2012, 11:11 AM
morning chicks. safe travels to those on the road and in the air.
Sandra, I hope everything went well with your brother.
12-22-2012, 11:56 AM
Sandra, praying for your Brother!
12-22-2012, 12:15 PM
I didn't have internet service from 5 till around bedtime, so I couldn't get on to give you an update. My brother's surgery was not successful. The attempt to save his leg made matters worse. They are expecting to amputate his right leg sometime this next week. It looks like he will not get out of the hospital till after they do it. The doctor is talking with him today. My sister-in-law said for us not to come up today to give him time to deal with this. My heart is breaking for him. But like my sil said, "It could have been a lot worse." And she also said maybe with two prosthetics, he'll run in the Olympics.
It is so hard not to talk about this around people around here.
12-22-2012, 01:06 PM
Sandra, my heart is sad. I pray your Brother will find a way to cope and have more happy days.
12-22-2012, 02:35 PM
Vickie, I wish I had gotten back here before you saw my post. Thank you for your kind remarks.
I just hung up from talking with my sil. The doctor just told her that my brother's veins are flowing better today. They think the surgery was a success afterall!! Right now it's looking like he will not have his right leg amputated!!!!! We are all crying with joy. What a blessing!!
12-22-2012, 04:56 PM
Ohhhhhh.....SO glad I checked her before my party! Thank you God.
12-22-2012, 05:50 PM
Wow Sandra, I just read the bad & then good news !!!
That is like a Christmas miracle !! So glad !!
12-22-2012, 07:24 PM
We're thinking it's a Christmas miracle, too. I think we all cried harder when we got the good news than we did when we got the bad. Tears of joy are pretty darn good.
12-22-2012, 07:52 PM
Sandra, I was sad then cried a few tears of joy too. How awesome and for sure a Christmas miracle.
I tried a new recipe tonight. I loved it. Healthy too. Here is the recipe....
http://traderjoesrecipes.net/black-bean-and-sweet-potato-enchiladas-recipe/ ..... I used whole wheat flour tortillas instead of corn. I also used enchilada sauce (green one, not the red one) in place of salsa verde. It's a bean and sweet potato enchilada. Sounds weird but very tasty
12-22-2012, 07:59 PM
Thank you all for the kind words.
Pam, that looks really tasty. Thank you for sharing.
12-23-2012, 09:33 AM
Hey Y'all! We arrived in OKC last night at 10:30, so I just saw Sandra's post. Our God is awesome!! I will continue to pray for good blood flow and healing for your brother, Sandra :goodvibes
Hope you all are enjoying the crazy days before Christmas! We will be shopping, wrapping, and baking today. Love you chicks!
12-23-2012, 08:28 PM
We are all so happy about my brother's progress. Life is good. This afternoon I finished Christmas shopping and wrapping. We are now officially ready.
12-23-2012, 09:04 PM
Sandra, I know it's a huge relief for your family. I have a few things to wrap and then I'll be done too.
sloan, have fun with DD and family.
I went grocery shopping today. I am making a few desserts, to satisfy my daughter and her family. I'm making better than sex pumpkin cake. I made it once and it's to die for. Not diet friendly in the least. Also making an apple cheesecake and cake cookies. I'll do all this tomorrow. My daughter is leaving tomorrow to come to FL.
My knee has been bothering me for the last week or so. It's the knee I had the osteotomy done to. I've been getting pain while I just sit here and especially when we walk. It's also swollen. Hope it's not time for a knee replacement. Hopefully it will stop hurting soon. I'm going to take some tylenol for the pain. HOpe it works.
12-23-2012, 10:17 PM
Pam, I hope the Tylenol helps. Enjoy your family. Your desserts sound yummy.
12-23-2012, 10:50 PM
Sandra, your poor brother, and the rest of you. What a roller coaster. I'm praying that you continue to get good news.
Last night we danced our final tap performance of the year at an event called Polyphonics Spree in Dallas. It took us almost 2 hours to get there, then we weren't schedule to dance until 9:30---got on the stage about 10PM, and back home by midnight. We were worn out. But, it is an amazing audience of 100's of people hooting, hollering, cheering, clapping, singing, throwing balloons and confetti...it's a high to dance there. If they put up a you-tube of us dancing, I'll post it fro you.
I slept late, went to church, out to lunch, shopping and home again.
Tomorrow I'll be making apricot fried pies to take to DIL's house for Christmas Day. tomorrow night, we're going to great niece's house, but I'm taking a commercially prepared fruit cake and not cooking.
I'll be spending much of the holidays culling books. I have too many and hopefully the second- hand stores will take them for a bit of money, or I'll donate them to a resale charity.
We're expecting some cold weather, but of course, it's nothing compared to what others get.
12-24-2012, 12:41 AM
Rhonda, I hope you get a video to share with us.
My eating has been horrendous. Tomorrow Curtis and I are going to do better, but Christmas Day we're going to have a free for all.
12-24-2012, 01:28 AM
In Ga tonight at my brothers. My sister-in -law is a fantastic Christmas decorator ...me , not so much..
Pam, hope your knee is better & thanks for the recipe & Trader Joe recipe link.
Looks like they have lots of good recipes..
Rhonda.. your dance performances sound amazing..
Pam..the pumpkin pie sounds like something I could use "considering":lol::lol:
12-24-2012, 09:57 AM
Sandra, still praying for your brother! My family is planning a two day "free for all"!
Nancy, glad you are safe and sound at your brother's house. Enjoy!
Rhonda, the tap performance sounds fun! Hope we get to see it on youtube. Apricot fried pies are my absolute favorite!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hun:
Pam, sorry about your knee! Hope you can give it a rest, and it stops hurting. Glad you are getting to spend time with family!
Vickie, I'm wondering if Brodie has a special outfit for Christmas :hohoho:
Happy Christmas Eve, y'all!
12-24-2012, 03:46 PM
Merry Christmas Eve!
Hope you all are spending it the way you want. We're enjoying ours. Life is good.
12-24-2012, 09:29 PM
My knee is better today. No pain. We didn't do our usual walk. We cleaned and I went with my sis to get some last minute things for her dinner.
My kids are on their way here. Ran into fog and I'm worried about them. I told her to get a room if it doesn't clear up.
Finished my baking for the night.
Hope all my chick friends have a Merry Christmas.
12-24-2012, 10:53 PM
...home from the great nieces-we had a nice roast beef dinner. They didn't like fruit cake, so that means we brought it home. That spells trouble. How can you not like fruit cake and be in this family????
I'm sooo sleepy.
Pam, I hope your family arrives safely.
12-24-2012, 11:16 PM
Take 2 minutes and see what the Polyphonics Spree is all about. There is no tape of us dancing on this one, but they do mention us---calling us "tap dancing grandmas" !!
12-25-2012, 10:14 AM
MERRY Christmas Chicks!!!!!
12-25-2012, 12:33 PM
Merry Christmas, y'all!
12-25-2012, 02:34 PM
:santa: Merry Christmas!! :tree:
We've done our Christmas, have seen all of the kids and their gifts from Santa, and are home safe and sound before the roads get icy. Soon, it is nap time, then maybe we'll watch a movie.
12-25-2012, 05:53 PM
We had Christmas breakfast and gifts at my son's this morning. We had a great time. Now we're home still eating on Christmas treats.
Pam, did your kids make it all right?
12-26-2012, 12:50 AM
Merry Christmas Chicks !!!
I am really enjoying seeing family in Ga...
12-26-2012, 11:06 AM
Happy Boxing Day....:)
12-26-2012, 07:22 PM
Having a time getting back on program today. So far--almost CORE. Guess that's better than a free-for-all.
12-26-2012, 07:38 PM
Day 3 of "free for all" for me  I will definitely pay for it when we get home!!
12-26-2012, 09:10 PM
Enjoy yourself, Sloan.
12-26-2012, 10:06 PM
Enjoy Sloan. I'm trying to be restrained, at least a bit.
I stayed in the house all day because the roads are icy. There were over 100 accidents (mostly minor) in the Denton area today.
It was 19 F this morning. The dog wants to take a walk but I'm not going anywhere.
12-27-2012, 12:13 PM
morning chicks. Sorry I didn't make it in here on Christmas to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Yes, my daughter made it here safe and sound. They are going to visit my son in laws mom today.
Hope everyone is enjoying the season.
12-27-2012, 01:06 PM
Good morning, all. I just got up. I'm having allergy problems and am not feeling so hot. But it's a gorgeous day even though it's cold. The sun is shining; the birds are singing; and there were a couple of roadrunners out back puffed up like turkeys.
Pam, glad your family made it safely. Enjoy the visit.
Rhonda, we just barely got that dusting, but we did get over an inch of rain.
I'm still eating CORE-ish. We're having tamales for lunch.
12-27-2012, 10:11 PM
tamales!!! DH is cooking chili...for tomorrow.
I'm going through a great purging of my books. It is painful. My books are my history and I feel like I'm going to disappear  I will still have plenty and I won't miss any that I get rid of, but boy it's not easy.
Sandra we had rain the day before the snow...we've had it all, but today it is melting and we went out for breakfast.
12-27-2012, 10:15 PM
Rhonda, check out this site. I know people who have gotten some nice cash back.
They don't want my romance novels. :-(
12-28-2012, 02:58 AM
Rhonda, I wonder if you could make some color copies of the covers of some of the books you are not keeping and frame them. They might make for interesting art in a den or hallway.
During our visit to OKC, we ate at a mexican restaurant where I had chicken tamales with sour cream sauce. Amazing!!
12-28-2012, 02:11 PM
What we had were chicken tamales. Fantastic!
Sloan, you have some clever ideas. Are you back in Tennessee now? I wish you had had better weather for your trip to your daughter's.
Rhonda, breakfast out sounds good. We were going to do that after my doctor's appointment this morning, but I wasn't feeling well enough. Now I'm hungry!
Got a shot and meds this morning for sinusitis. I think I got to the doctor's just in time. I'm better already. It was rough yesterday.
12-28-2012, 02:56 PM
We are back at home. Our trip was lots of fun, and having a white Christmas was awesome! As we came through Arkansas, we realized that we had dodged the bullet in OKC. The OKC snow was just enough to make things white, but in Arkansas, they had several inches. Even though school hasn't started, I am already hoping for some snow days!
Sandra, I'm glad you went to the doc when you did. Rest, fluids, chicken soup, cozy fire, and wine is my prescription!
Have a wonderful day, y'all!
12-28-2012, 03:47 PM
Sloan, I'm glad you're home safe--and I like your prescriptions.
12-28-2012, 06:42 PM
Vickie and Sloan---we have a good book seller here whom I'm going to try first..but thanks for the tips. I know a woman who took the spines of old, discarded books and pasted them to a wall to look like book shelves. She also stacked up a lot of old books in a fireplace that she doesn't use. Both were quite effective..I had thought of making copies of some of the covers, Sloan, and making some kind of art with them--posters, collages, or shadow boxes. I should do that before the books are out of the house. BUT, I have a LOT of books...I could just choose a few I suppose. If I could make a decision, I wouldn't have so many :dunno:
Sandra, I'm glad you feel better. I've been feeling not quite right for about a week. I'm hoping it's just fatigue from Thanksgiving hullabaloo, tapping, having company, etc.
Sloan, I'm glad you're home safely--I was wondering what that weather was doing to you.
It looks like we're having FIVE kiddos here for New Year's Eve. We started with 3, so what's 2 more? :faint: They'll spend the night and , hopefully, their parents will come early to get them!
12-28-2012, 07:44 PM
Rhonda, I hope you're not coming down with something. Enjoy the little ones NYE. You have more energy than I have.
12-28-2012, 10:37 PM
I made this for dinner, and it was good.
DH's family are all sick with some stomach virus! Oh boy...I really do hope we don't get it. I don't think it's what is bothering me, because I've been out of sorts for a week or so.
12-28-2012, 10:51 PM
That looks delicious!
Rhonda, I hope you and Doyle don't catch that bug.
I'm feeling better tonight. (It's about time!)
12-28-2012, 11:15 PM
Peaking in to say hi..
I am home from my brothers and went to see Les Miserables today with my cousin. Going out of town again for a few days to see a childhood friend..
I have a hard time parting with books too...
Next week I am going to do some sorting to try to get rid of even more stuff.
I feel like I haul stuff out constantly and never make a dent..
Sandra..glad you are better
Boys are in Africa and loving it..They are such dare devils I hope they don't
try to herd some safari animals ...

Nancy, what did you think of the movie? I have heard it's really good. Saw a show about the making of it recently.
12-29-2012, 01:38 AM
Loved the movie !!!!
12-29-2012, 12:00 PM
Mornin' y'all! The salmon sounds awesome, and the movie sounds like a must see! Trying to do a little de-cluttering today. Enjoy your day, chicks!

One of our AC units is on its last legs and is being replaced now. The workers are freezing us out at the moment..it's colder inside than out.
I began my day poorly in terms of food choices, but there's time to change!
Purging continues today. I have a lot of goddess culture books, and a lot of theology books that I'll donate them to the church's library. Those are from the 80's and 90's mostly :) I can visit them if I get lonely!
ok, back to work....
12-30-2012, 10:33 AM
kids are gone. They left yesterday and made it home safely. It was a great visit. I took the tree down yesterday and cleaned.
Need my coffee.........

Got back last night, and I did bring back a very bad cold thought it was the flu but now that I feeling better I'm thinking its just a bad head cold. My throat is bothering me with a sever headache last night that I got rid of this morning. Didn't go to church as we having a very bitter cold day with the snow during the night turned into ice this morning and some power lines are down in town according to my friend Mary. So no movies today. The good news is that the cinema that we go to is going to buy some new digital camera for his theater so he's not closing down,as according to the paper he was able to get the finances to pay for the, YEAH!!! We still can go to the movies next year.
My DGD Thursday surgery was successful, but the last couple of days it very rough on her.Her throat is really hurting her right now and the doctor told my DD that it would be worse better it get better. The new Method is not ice cream or dairy products as that turns to phymn,so she has to drink soft drinks ice pops etc and anything food that it tolerable & soft like scrambled eggs. I couldn't believe that my DGD went to Christmas Mass with me while the other children wanted top play with there toys.I'm thinking that she will be blessed and the pain of the tonsils remove with pass shortly.
Oh yeah I maintained over the Christmas so that great not like last years 176
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and hope for a Happy Healthy New Year.
Going to rest for a bit ,hope you have a great day
12-30-2012, 12:50 PM
Maryann, that is great about the theater. I was hoping something would work out. Hope you feel much better soon. Glad DGD surgery went well.
Pam..you took a tree down?? I am impressed
Rhonda, you are inspiring me to sort my books and donate some..
As for me I am headed to my friends house that is about 2 hours away. I will stay a few days and we will rest, talk, shop, watch movies , eat & repeat !! She has a new grandbaby so I am looking forward to getting my "baby fix" as I call it...
Happy New Year if I don't get back here before !!!
12-30-2012, 04:05 PM
You all sound really happy--and warm. We're doing the same. I'm still just a tad under the weather but am feeling much much better than I did Friday.
We were just talking about "trying" to get back on track. I told Curtis there would be no "trying." We will just do it.
Sounds like a commercial, doesn't it? Or does it have shades of Yoda?
12-30-2012, 05:27 PM
Hi chicks! I am have an organization day in my craft room (dd's old room). DH gave me some money for Christmas, and I have ordered a new sewing machine, so the mess in the craft room has got to go. I am in the process of organizing my junk into bins with labels. Hopefully, I can keep it that way. I moved my craft supplies into the room last summer, but I have never finished organizing.
Sandra, love your commercial I do ;) Glad you are feeling better. Sounds like my prescription is working!!
Nancy, I love that you are getting to visit so many of your family and friends. Enjoy!
Maryann, glad you are home safe and sound. Hope you dgd feels better soon!
Pam, congrats on getting that tree down. That is the worst part of Christmas for me! Glad you got to enjoy your family for Christmas :D
Rhonda, sorry about your AC unit. We had to replace one this summer, and it is not cheap! Bah humbug!!!
Right now, dh and ds are repairing a broken water pipe leading to our house, so I don't have water. Luckily we keep extra water for emergencies. Hope you enjoy your evening, chicks. Do something nice for yourselves :hat:
12-30-2012, 05:46 PM
Sloan, I know this may sound funny, but organizing a craft/sewing room sounds like fun to me. Enjoy! Glad you have water. Made me thirsty reading about your water turned off for a bit.
12-30-2012, 07:20 PM
Pam..I was thinking "took the tree down" meant an outside tree. LOL
I was visualizing you outside with a chainsaw. I am getting senile !!!
12-30-2012, 09:29 PM
Pam and a chainsaw...great image.
Our tree is down also because it was so dry. But, other decorations are still up.
My book purging continues, and I'm almost finished. During the porcess I cleaned a closet too. And, then, I'll follow Sloan's example and do the craft room.
Welcome back, Maryann....sorry you're sick and I hope it passes quickly.
I'm just hearing the news about Hillary Clinton and the blood clot. Wow--I hope you has a quick recovery---she's done so much traveling and work.
Tomorrow, the kids come about 4 PM.....oh boy!
12-31-2012, 10:14 AM
Have a safe and happy New Year's Eve, chickies!
12-31-2012, 03:20 PM
New flash! All 5 kids either have a stomach virus or have been exposed to it!
Poor babies. We will have a quiet night.
12-31-2012, 03:50 PM
Pam, for a second that's what I thought you meant, too.
Rhonda, sorry the kids are under the weather. You and Doyle enjoy your evening. I am going to send Curtis for wine in a bit.
12-31-2012, 05:44 PM
you chicks are cracking me up. Me cut a tree down? with a chain saw? You all don't know how weak I am in my old age. I boxed up the artificial tree.
Rhonda, sorry the babies are sick. You were having 5 of them over tonight, right? Yes, it will be quiet. I heard about Hillary yesterday. Hope she is doing ok and they get the clot dissolved or whatever they do with them.
sloan, I don't envy you. Remember I did mine last summer. It feels really good when it all comes together. Good luck.
Sandra, do you stay up till midnight? Half the time I fall asleep.
Maryann, welcome back and sorry you are sick.
Nancy, during the holidays, taking a tree down means taking the Christmas tree down. I wouldn't know how to even start a chain saw.
Went shopping and got fabric to make a bed skirt. I don't like the tailored ones, prefer gathered bed skirts. I'm going to make a white one with a band of grey zebra near the bottom, for a bit of interest.
Have a Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12-31-2012, 07:49 PM
I spent the day shopping and eating lunch at Cheesecake Factory with my sister, neice, and mother. We had lots of fun and laughs. I had a salad (good decision ) and carrot cake cheesecake (bad, but calculated, decision ). Now I am home for a quiet evening with dh. I picked up the wine on the way home, and we will probably watch a couple of movies. We may not make it to midnight, but that's okay with us!
Pam, I picked up three 18 gallon tubs to store fabric in. It seems like the more I fold and organize, the more I find. After the fabric is all put away, I will start on the yarn then try to corral all of the scrapbook supplies.
Rhonda, enjoy your quiet night. Hopefully the bug that the kiddos have will pass quickly!
Sandra, I will be enjoying my wine with you!
Nancy, have a wonderful time with your friend, and enjoy that sweet baby!
Maryann, hope you are having a fun New Year's Eve!
12-31-2012, 11:37 PM
Pam, I seriously doubt we'll make it till midnight. I have been dozing off and on most of the day. Don't know what's up with that.
Sloan, earlier we saw a House Hunters show on HGTV--a couple looking for a home in Nashville. They got a really goodlooking place.
I'll see you all next year. Have a good evening.
01-01-2013, 12:11 PM
Good Morning and Happy & Healthy New Year.. I didn't celebrate I was in bed at 11 PM. First we lost Guy Lombardi and now Dick Clark,New Years doesn't mean that much to me anymore.
I got up this morning and couldn't go to Mass. I was very disappointed but my cold is getting worse and the outdoor walking path is icy as I could go out to buy some rock salt. I ran out of meds also, In fact my refrig is emptying out,I guess if I can't get out tomorrow I will have to use the Pea Pod that Stop & Shop offers.
NANCY=Thanks on all counts, Being sick and not being able to outside is hard to deal with,as I'm never home.
SANDRA=Glad that your feeling better,if my symptoms don't get better I have to see my doctor, and hes going to tell me I told you so, after refusing the flu and the pneumonia shot.
SLOAN=Thanks I was lucky I got home in time before the snow started. After I got off the thread I will call my DD and see how my DGD is doing.
RHONDA=Thanks, I know the news about Hillary was shocking to hear. Hope she get better.
PAM=Thanks, for you kind words hope to be soon as I don't like be confined to the house,as I'm always on the go.
Have a great day,

Happy New Year Chicks! We stayed up until midnight to ring in the new year. Not hard for us....well me anyway since I'm a night owl. We watched two movies yesterday. One was silly and quite off color but funny, Ted...and then we watched War Horse which I sobbed all the way through. Sorry I watched it even with the happy ending.
Off to the treadmill. Say prayers that my heel spurs and plantar faciitis does not flare up!
01-01-2013, 12:28 PM
Happy New Year!!!
I guess we're all armed with new resolutions and are ready to start this new year. 2013! Seems like just the other day we were stocking up for Y2K.
We had a hearty breakfast this morning. Curtis is going to town to run errands. I'm staying home in my jammies.
Maryann, don't worry about what your doctor might say. Just go get some help. I'm feeling much much better after going.
Going to test 2013. Not going to eat black-eyed peas today. Aren't I daring? Have a great day, all.
01-01-2013, 01:21 PM
15 minutes on the treadmill at 1.8 mph and it was all I could do to finish. Foot feels ok so far but hip feels a bit ouchy. Now having breakfast at 11:12. Oatmeal, skim milk, a few craisins and a couple of pieces of walnuts. This is going to be a long battle back.
No resolutions for me, Sandra, because I just break them anyway and then feel bad. I'm just starting now because all the snacks and excuses are now gone. Have a wonderful jammie day. I'm having one too until I cook dinner tonight.
Sloan, we just got a new Cheesecake factory here. We haven't been there yet but I know we will go soon. It used to be one of my favorite places for lunch when we used to work in downtown Chicago. I could care less about the cheesecake but I do love their meatloaf and mashed potatoes!
Mary Ann, hope you go to the Doctor. I'm sure he won't say I told you so. We get a flu shot every year and I'm going to ask about the pneumonia shot the next time we see him. I haven't had the flu since I started getting them 16 years ago.
Pam you are so stinking talented. I wish I lived close and you could help me with my house. It is so hard for me...especially the decorating part. I have many blank walls.
Rhonda, I can't believe you agreed to take sick kids. I'm guessing you had to since the parents probably had plans but....Y I K E S!!! How was it for you? Hope you and Doyle don't catch it.
How was your NYE Nancy?
I'm off to play Bubble Witch for a while and then go read my book that is due back to the library on January 3rd.
01-01-2013, 03:52 PM
Vickie, I don't really have a resolution either. I was just talking. I'm planning to take this one day at a time. I told a gf I was through saying, "This is my year." I'm now going to take things one day at a time.
What is Bubble Witch?
I'm off now to read The Pillars of the Earth.
01-01-2013, 03:58 PM
Happy New Year chickies. I managed to stay awake to see the ball drop.
Maryann, I know you are a jet setter now, but you just have to take it easy for a few days. I got the pneumonia shot a few years back. Never get the flu shot.
Sandra, the black eyed peas must be a southern thing. Jammie days are fun, aren't they? I have a lot of them in KY, not so much here in florida.
Vickie, great job on treadmill. It's a start and that's all that matters. We have not been very consistent with our walking but we managed to walk today and yesterday. I love to decorate, as you know. The reason I'm making the bedskirt is that I can't find what I'm looking for so the next best thing is to make my own. I'm frugal when it comes to things like that. If I can make it or DIY it, I'm game.
I think we are suppose to start a new thread today, but with so many of us posting, we can wait until tomorrow.
01-01-2013, 07:46 PM
Pam, you're right. Folks in Montana didn't know about them either. Oops! It is the first, isn't it?
01-01-2013, 09:50 PM
Had my black eyed peas and greens today, so I'm set. DH usually has one bite because he really hates both. We always laugh and say that they don't make a difference, but we eat them anyway! How silly :hun:
Hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Day!
