60 minutes shoulders, biceps and triceps routine. Oh, it's a sad thing, to have both visible muscles and still, the swinging underarms due to loose skin.

How are you feeling now? You seem to be getting plenty of exercise in!

Well, I've been exercising but being very careful not to do anything that stresses the IT band area - stayed away from squats and no running. Also been strengthening and stretching that area. It's been a week and I worked it for the first time today. I did a DVD that includes lunges, suicides, minor squat action and a lot of plyometrics. It felt fine. First run tomorrow. I am SO NERVOUS!!

The gym full of murmurs between classes about the Newtown school shootings. Primarily female membership in this place, with the classes almost entirely female-attended, and so, all around me, the empathy of mothers, so easily able to imagine the horrifying loss.

Classes are packed on the weekend before Christmas. And the gym is open on both Christmas eve and Christmas day, thanks to our sizable Jewish membership, so if it snows, I'll be fine. I kind of like a good Christmas morning run, though, I must admit. It's never as quiet & I never feel such beneficence as I do then running past the sleeping houses.

12/22 and 12/23 are kind of blurry, but I think I went to the gym or something on 12/22.

12/24 I made it to the gym for a quick 20 minute weights/HIIT workout and walked 1 hour (3.25 miles) with my mom.

12/25 I sat around and did nothing.

12/26 I walked 3.25 miles with my mom, then lifted for 40 minutes and spent 20 on the arc trainer. I am very sore today.

12/27 Snow shoveling aaaaand I am going to the gym even if it kills me.

60 minute Pilates mat class, with a substitute teacher who does not-quite-orthodox moves to work on our butts. This teacher married a chef last year while I lived Upstate, traveled with him through China during November on a tasting and food-sourcing tour, and has gained at least 30 pounds since I last saw her, which is a surprise to see in a class instructor at a gym.

Saturday, Dec. 29th:

60 minute spin class with weight intervals
60 minute Pilates mat class, with a substitute teacher who does not-quite-orthodox moves to work on our butts. This teacher married a chef last year while I lived Upstate, traveled with him through China during November on a tasting and food-sourcing tour, and has gained at least 30 pounds since I last saw her, which is a surprise to see in a class instructor at a gym.

I wonder how the trim chefs stay that way - Gordon Ramsay, Robert something (Restaurant Impossible - I have a big crush on him), Cat Cora, Bobby Flay, etc.

I guess maybe they never actually eat a meal - just taste and nibble and taste and nibble.

15 minutes Stairmaster, the usual, resistance at nine
60 minutes shoulders, biceps and triceps routine
45 minute spin class, straight-up spin, no weight intervals

-Helped a friend move for about 90 minutes - lots of stairs and some lifting
-25 minutes running on treadmill, 2.82 miles

45 minute spin class with weight intervals, just four of us in class at 6 AM on this last day of December and 2012.

Next week, this class will be packed.

Dec. 21: didn't think I'd get to exercise but dd and dh needed to christmas shop (for me I'm pretty sure), so I was told to go to yoga!
