Height: 5'2"

Default Shorter than I thought...

I decided to measure myself standing against a wall to see exactly how tall I am to make sure that when I enter my numbers into the BMI calculator they're accurate. To my dismay, I am actually 5'2", not 5'3" like I thought, which means that I'm further away from a healthy weight than I thought. Dash it all!

I think I might have the opposite problem. My doctor is sure I'm 6'. I'm sure she must be mistaken. I hardly think I've continued to grow after my 20s. I was measured in at 5'10" when I was 20. A few years ago I had to get my height and weight taken for the military and they said I was 5'11". I stayed quiet and went with it; that extra inch gave me some leeway with my max allowable weight! But this year my doctor took my height and said I was 6'. I can't still be growing. I'm 31! I'm sure she's mistaken, but maybe I'm 5'11" That would be AWESOME. I should check myself....

Sorry, my problem is the opposite. As I lost weight I gained height, due to less downward pressure (gravity!) on my frame. I went from 5'2" to 5'3", which made me quite happy.

Arctic Mama...You might be onto something! I've been 5'3" my whole adult life, yet last year at my physical, the nurse measured me and said I was 5'3.5". Of course I was tickled..but (until your post) I blew it off.

Last year would have been the 1st time I'd been measured and I no longer was carrying extra body weight, so it does make sense! Yay..I'm 5'3.5" tall.

OP..Keep your chin up, girl. Even though, right now, you might have to classify yourself as a bit shorter..there's at least two of us, proving that even height can make an increase, as the weight loss happens! So stay positive!!

I am so glad I am not the only one that got taller. I felt kinda "stupid" at first telling people how I grew 1 and 1/2 inch. I was 5' 3.5 forever. 3 years ago at my lowest weight, I got a physical and they said I was 5'5. I was excited to be taller so I kept quiet. But then everytime I measured I was 5'5 and maybe 5'4.5 So now I tell people with confidence that I am 5'5. Hey, maybe when I lose another 75 pounds, I will be 5'7!!

I'm another who gained some height. I topped out at 5'5" but now I measure at 5'6".
Maybe Going4Lean is right! Getting your inch back is not outside the realm of possibility. My other thought was that we're all a bit taller at the beginning of the day than the end. Did you measure your height in the morning or the evening?

Just like pregnancy can increase shoe size and make gals shorter, the same applies to weight gain from other sources. It spreads the bones in your feet, compresses your spine, and certainly impacts posture! So no joke, many folks see height increases in weight loss. It's not that unusual, but it is somewhat rare that folks lose enough weight and keep it off long enough to see such a gradual change

No way Arctic Mama, that's so interesting!!

I should check my height then, huh? Last time I checked I was 60lb heavier.. Maybe I grew too!! I've always wanted to be 5'7 but kinda stopped growing at 5'5 haha. At least one teeny tiny inch closer to my childhood "dream hight" would be so fun *giggle*

I was 5'-7" in high school. After menopause (and at 250+ pounds) I was 5'-6". At my last doctor's appointment I was back up to 5'-7". i didn't gain from what I was in high school, but I got back the inch that menopause and extra weight took away. My feet changed, too. Pre- pregnancy and major weight gain I wore a 9 1/2. I went to an 11 or 11W at my highest weight. Now I wear a 10. The downside of that is my favorite sandals are too big now!

Hmm... Interesting thoughts... Maybe I shrunk because of my pregnancy? I got up to 212lbs.

I shrank as well. You're not alone. I was obese all my life and was measured a few times in high school and right before college, I was 5'8. At a physical in grad school, I was measured at 5'7. It sucked because I had picked my goal weight based on the normal weight BMI for my height 5'8, so I felt even farther away from "normal."

For a while I was obsessed with my height and made everyone measure me. I was anywhere from 5'6 to 5'8 depending on who was doing the measuring. So I finally decided to just roll with 5'7.

Actually it's ironic you say that- I saw my doctor last month and the nurse measured me a whole inch shorter too. She says as we age we shrink in height. Frustrating when the bmi is calculated. Things seem further from perfection.
