THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY opens the week of December 10th in much of the world. Tolkien/Middle Earth fans - how about let's do a challenge leading up to the opening? :D

I've designed this challenge to run for 16 weeks, through the last full week of December, since the film doesn't open in some markets until that week and it can be nice to have some structure to fall back on during the holidays. You don't have to join at the beginning of the challenge or do all the weeks if that doesn't work for you.

This challenge has weekly check-ins, although that's just for your benefit. You won't lose points or anything for missing check-ins. You can join the challenge at any time. Your goal can be anything related to your personal health or fitness - it doesn't have to be weight loss. You can check in on whatever day works for you. You can use the template provided below, but you're not obligated to. Everyone is welcome to join. :)

I've never done a challenge, so may I make this my first?

I like that it is running during some especially difficult months. I find the shortening days and cooler temperatures hard to deal with. Well, I used to deal with them by baking...and eating lots!. :o

I will go see the movie as the reward!

Hi Strawberry Blond, welcome aboard! Challenges can be helpful, especially during the fall and winter. The temptation to eat all those baked goodies can be strong!

NoSuchUser - That's a bummer. Some weeks are like that, though. Hang in there.

I'm up a little bit, but I'm pretty happy that I've basically been able to maintain the last few weeks, considering how busy I've been. How are all our other HOBBIT Challenge chicks doing?

I checked in and edited my weight for the challenge. This one pound a week loss is for the birds :( :( I don't think tomorrow is going to be good to me. I will weigh in on Sunday though and report that. Also, I have got to make some changes, really fast. I weigh too much to be only losing a pound a week. I am going to step up my game! :D

I updated my PP for my weights. After a long plateau of the same 2-3lbs I am finally loosing again. Not sure if I will make my goal but I will try . We are excited to take my girls to the movie. My DH read the book to them last year.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Ok my hobbits, I am so nervous because I am going on a girls night out tonight for happy hour with some of my best friends... I usually AVOID restaurants because I feel like I'm not in control of my calories! It's a unique localish place, so no nutrition info is offered. It's a brazilian steakhouse type place, so it should be easy to at least stay paleo. I feel like I finally got the scale moving, I don't want to mess that up!

Should I make a new goal, or see how far I can get past the one I made? :chin:

Hi chicks! Glad to see you're hanging in there!

NoSuchUser - I'm glad that happy hour didn't throw your whole week off - good job! :carrot:

Linda - Congratulations on meeting your goal! :carrot: Good job!

I'm at the same weight I was at last week, but it's TOM so I'm okay with that - I could have gained 10 pounds from bloating!

Nice one, Linda! :cp:

I have been exercising but I haven't been eating so carefully so my progress is quite slow but I am still at it. I hope this week will be better in terms of weight loss. It is definitely going to be a good week as I am graduating C25K! :running:

How are you guys doing? I'm still about the same. This is my last semester in grad school, and I hope I can at least maintain, if not lose, during these last few weeks. Anybody been thinking about the holidays? Got any plans or strategies in place for dealing with whatever holiday triggers you may have?

NoSuchUser
11-16-2012, 05:04 PM
Well I was not a very good updater the past few weeks! I have been kind of discouraged. I had planned a cheat day for my birthday but that turned into a cheat week... then the following week I was sick with a minor cold, but it was enough to keep me out of the gym. Now I'm having a totally different health problem (a major skin thing) that's also keeping me form working out for a week so far. I'm so scared I'm just losing muscle and not fat!

theox
11-16-2012, 11:39 PM
NoSuchUser - That's a bummer - hope your skin issue is resolved soon. Don't get too stressed if you can't exercise for a while. Just focus on what you do have some control over - making good food choices. You can still lose fat (or even just maintain, which is an accomplishment in itself).

Kitcherella
11-20-2012, 03:57 AM
Greetings to all! I hope you are doing well. I am still losing but so slow I might as well be a turtle. But as long as I am losing I am not bothered. I will not reach my goal but I will be so much closer!

I saw Hobbit yesterday so I have to announce that I did not reach my goal but like I've said previously I am that much closer to it. I had quite a lot of popcorn yesterday, that didn't help I am sure. I watched in 3D and it was great!
Seeing Galadriel in that magnificent dress made me a bit jealous so this week I am trying harder.

Congrats on moving closer to your goal, Kitcherella! Glad to hear that you enjoyed The Hobbit 3D!

I seem to be moving backwards, but I'm still going to see The Hobbit today. I know what I've been doing wrong and have a plan for getting back on track, so hopefully I'll be back in the 230s soon.

I hope you guys enjoyed this challenge (and THE HOBBIT)! I enjoyed both, although my weight has been headed in the wrong direction lately - mostly from stress-eating.
