01: 145.0 - Craziness. I ended August at 147!
02: 146.6 - End of TOM. I seem to be a bit backwards from most ladies in that I lose mostly during TTOM and I'm always kind of sad when it ends. (Though no denying I'm always happy the crazy hormonal part is over!)
03: 145.8
04: 147.4
05: 147.4
06: 148.2 You know, ever since I started charting my weight according to my cycle (in my personal files) vs the month, I know what to expect and this doesn't worry me at all because this is perfectly normal according to my trends. I'm right on track! :D

I forgot we'd be starting a new month! Hello folks. I ended August on a skid - a week of very, very out-of-control bingeing and overeating has me back over 160. I think I'm starting September at 162. Not quite where I want to be, and I can feel it in my body too.

The constant struggle against bingeing has been a theme of this incredibly emotionally trying summer for me. I am not sure yet what I am going to do differently in September.

But I keep coming back here and talking about it, in part to own up to it, and in part because I hope it helps other people to know that even those of us who have had large, significant successes with our weight loss can still struggle with overeating even after years. There is no magic switch that gets flipped, and you are not somehow freakish or defective if you continue to find the process difficult.

I started September at 250.8, and plan on being at 240 by the end of this month. I will only weigh in weekly, because daily fluctuations drive me crazy.

Yesterday had a great upper-body workout (still feeling it this morning), and though I was invited to a dinner party at my boss' house, I ate sensibly. Went to bed feeling a cold coming on and this morning have stayed in bed feeling really stuffed up and weak, so no exercise for me today, and not much appetite either.

Much success to everyone this month and onward!

Sing it, sister. I had quite a binge yesterday and, while I'm irritated with myself, I don't hate myself the way I used to after eating like that (which I did regularly, so I hated myself a lot). I've been using food to medicate myself for a long time now; that compulsion isn't going to simply stop. I think the only way we can make today or this week or this month better is to keep trying.

So, I'm starting September at 136. I had gotten to just under 135 last week so I know it's possible. I'll get there again!

Almost out of the 240's. I am 240.5 today. Its dropping slowly but it is dropping. I had hoped to be in the 130's today but it will come. I was not able to exercise this week as much. I am ready for school to start so we can get into a regular routine. I hope everyone is having a great day.

morning! today's weigh in: 144.8 lbs

so my goal is to reach 139 lbs by the end of september. last month i kept slacking off and bouncing between 145 - 148 lbs.

not this month, though! i'm going to work hard and kick butt! and seeing 139 lbs by the end of it would make me super happy (only 5.8 lbs more to lose!)

I was hoping to see a 3 today. But alas no. I am up half a pound to 240.5. I will keep on plan and keep swimming swimming swimming. My DH did say he is noticing a difference. That made me feel good. 25lbs down is a good start.

I've decided to follow the example of some of you ladies and set a goal weight for this month. By The first of October, my goal is to be 249. It might be more than I can do, but it's something to strive for.

That is very sweet. Thank You Thistleberry. You know how it goes you want the pounds to leave faster ;). I am really looking forward to being 230 which is the weight I was a year ago last April when I went in to get my CPAP machine. I will keep eating to plan and exercising and it will come off.

I wanted to share what happened to me yesterday. MY family went to DQ and instead of getting an ice cream/blizzard, I got a arctic rush. It was yummy BTW (lemon lime). When we got I home I started feeling strange. Dizzy and the room would spin when I moved my head. I decided to lay down and the room was still spinning. I took a little nap hoping that would help. I realized when I got up it was probably from having 26g of sugar all at once. I stopped eating processed foods since I started loosing weight. That was the most I had at one sitting and I had sugar overload. I was drunk on a Sugar rush and I did not know what it was at the time :o :o :o.

Hey folks - just a quick check-in. :coffee:

I'm still struggling with binging and overeating. It has not been a bang-up week on that score (perhaps slightly better than last week but only slightly).

I have to change something to shake myself out of this behavior. I am just not yet sure what to change!

I hear ya! I think I sabatoged myself this last week! I was soooo close to my mini goal then PMS and TOM just messed it all up for me. I lost all control! I even stopped working out :(

I have to go out to dinner tomorrow and so I am giving myself a little wiggle room for drinks etc but we should keep each other accountable this week...

Argh! I don't understand. I ate well, I exercised my BACKSIDE off, and I am up .4 lbs from yesterday. There is no way I'll make my Sunday goal of 260 now. It is so frustrating to work so hard, to deny myself and to still see a gain on the scale. When my husband was losing weight, he saw a loss every single time he weighed himself. I know I am not him, and I know women's bodies are different than men's and I can't expect to lose the same way he did, but I feel so discouraged.

I know you're supposed to learn to enjoy the journey, but I don't even want to be on the journey. I just want to be normal weight.

Anyway, I just had to put this out there so it was no longer "in here", as it were. Today is another day, and I'm not giving up.

I am still feeling under the weather and TOM has started, a double-whamy. So I haven't exercised since Sunday unfortunately, but I haven't been eating too much either for lack of appetite from my cold, so when I weigh in tomorrow, hopefully I won't be too high up from TOM.

i know what you mean about your DH losing every time he weighs in.

my gentleman is a machine when it comes to losing weight (ironically, it's only because of me who guides him and has started him in fitness), and the fat just melts off of him.

myself on the other hand, loses weight like a snail. drives me nuts. :dizzy:

Good, don't give up. Please try to train yourself to take a longer term view. It would be really nice if there were lovely short term correlations between what we do and what we see on the scale - eat on plan and exercise today, see a loss tomorrow morning, yay! But it simply doesn't work that way. Your body's timescale for processing nutrients and burning fat is simply longer than that, and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Nothing.

So just remind yourself that what matters is not whether you weigh less than yesterday or even whether you weigh less than a week ago. Stick to your plan for a month or two and you will weigh less - that is what matters. Yes, it isn't any fun. Yes, instant gratification would be easier. But whining about it and giving up doesn't get you to your goals. You owe it to yourself to cultivate patience.

carter

One more thing, Quantum Sheep - this is exactly why I strongly, strongly discourage setting goals like "260 by Sunday." You just don't have that kind of control over your weight on any particular day. Your total weight depends upon a host of factors - what undigested food is sitting inside you, how much fluid you are retaining due to hormones, weather, sodium intake, hydration, immune system function, healing after exercise, etc. most of these factors are not within your control! But they contribute to daily fluctuations in total body weight of several pounds - that can easily mask a few WEEKS worth of real fat loss.

So saying "my goal is 260 by Sunday" is like saying "my goal is for it not to rain on sunday.". You are setting your goal as something mostly outside of your control.

Instead, set goals such that the measure of whether you have met them is based upon something you did or did not do. Something you have complete control over. "I will be on plan every day this week" or "I will exercise three times this week" - these are goals within your control. If you set these behavior based goals and meet them, the weight will come off in its own time.

Thank you for the support Ciao and Carter.

Carter, I know you're right, mentally. I just really wanted to get to 260, because 261 is where my diet always seems to fall apart. I thought that if I could make my mind up and reach that goal by the end of the week I would know that I can do this. I know you've got the right idea, though, and I'm going to listen to you.

I'm at 261 and change now, so instead of trying to get to that 260 number, I think I'll make my goal to keep to my exercise and eating plans perfectly for 2 weeks regardless of what the scale says. This is going to be harder than I expected because my family just got some terrible news, and I'm having a really hard time coping, so if I can do it in the next two weeks, I know I can keep going all the way until the end.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond to me. It's great knowing that there are other people out there pulling for me and supporting me.

Carter that was wonderful thank you for posting that.

I have been sitting at 240 for 5 days. Eating on plan exercising 5-6 days a week. Finally I broke through to the 230's. I am 238 today. I am so excited. I was getting a bit discouraged too but knew it would come off. I am eating at a deficit and exercing which creates a deficit. I understand about wanting to see a loss the next day after keeping to plan. I need to think about weekly and monthly rather than daily. That is one reason I stopped weighting every day.

Have a great weekend ladies.

Martine

Quantum Sheep, you've gotten some really great advice, stay positive. Setting goals is important, but success is not only measured in pounds lost, but in solid lifestyle choices that will get you to where you want to be for your entire life.

Official weigh-in this morning has me at 250.2, despite TOM, so I'm happy. I'm also getting over my cold and feeling better, so surely by tomorrow I'll be able to exercise again and be fully back on plan.

yup, yup, yup!

though, i do always find it fun to set goals for myself. i tell myself all the time, "xxx LBS by xx MONTH challenge!" i think it's fun to set a competition for yourself to work hard and stay dedicated.

HOWEVER, with that said, i never take it to heart if i didn't reach "xxx LBS by xx MONTH". i simply appreciate the weight that i have lost in that time and i set a new goal for myself!

but that's just me; that's just how i stay motivated. just the thought of reaching a certain goal by a certain time, but never getting butt-sore if i doesn't happen. that's being realistic. ;)

Ditto to everything Carter said. But, like Ciao, I also set specific goals, i.e. I'd like to be at 133 by the end of the month. If I make it, great! If not, I'll keep trying. Keeping an eye on the longer view blunts the impact of the daily results (whether good or bad).

That being said, I'm back up over 135 today, after seeing 133.6 earlier in the week. It's disappointing but I know I'll get back down again, if I stick to the plan.

@sassyangies; i hope your recovery is going well! just thinking about it hurts!

so i have this problem with two of my dearest friends. all three of us are in this weight loss journey together to be fit and healthy.
i'm self-motivated and can stick to a weight loss plan easily (then again i've also been doing this for a few years). however, the other two girls are having a hard time staying on plan. i've tried setting up challenges for us, a weight loss group, offering advice, etc. but the other two girls always just lose focus and end up sabotaging themselves and feeling bad for themselves.

and physically getting together is nearly impossible to do. girl 1 (we'll call her Kathy) is in pageants and always has an extracurricular activity going on. so her schedule is pretty booked to just go out to a gym together.

girl 2 (we'll call her Suzie) is one of my good friends from new york. she particularly has a hard time focusing on living a healthier lifestyle. she's only 14 and lives with her grandmother who is a traditional Puerto Rican abuela, cooking pork, rice, and beans nearly every night.
well, Suzie told me yesterday that she's starting to take up smoking because she "read online that it suppresses appetite." and i had to give her this good ol' lecture on why it's a bad idea to even get started because it's so hard to stop afterwards.

now, both of these ladies are VERY intelligent. they're just not motivated or focused. i can tell how badly they want to live healthier, but life gets in the way and they're left hating themselves for some things they can't control (environment, food bought, etc)

i've tried to be (and still remain) a positive rock for them. when they need advice, i'm there. when they need to vent, i'm there. it's in no way a burden for me and i thoroughly enjoy being their "big sister".

any advice on how i can approach their bad cycle of being motivated at the beginning and then losing it all after a few weeks? any helpful websites that can help them?

thanks, ladies! :)

Ciao: I don't really have any advice for your friends, because I think their desire to live healthier has to be something that they're doing for themselves. If they aren't ready and willing and committed, I really don't know of anyone or anything that will make them. I hope someone else has some ideas, but I've never been successful at dragging someone along on a weight loss journey they weren't committed to going on, and I've certainly tried. They have to figure out why they want to lose weight and be healthier for themselves. Then, they probably have to figure out what's stopping them. Maybe they can make a list? Reasons why they want to be healthier and reasons why they don't? Maybe it will spark something inside of them?

Morning folks. :coffee: I haven't checked in for a few days but I see I am not the only one. I hope everyone is doing all right.

I mentioned a few days ago tht I was, once again, struggling with overeating and binging. Well, I have been perfectly on plan thus far this week - three days in a row. So that is a good thing. I upped my calorie target a bit so that my plan would be a little less restrictive, but that seems more to be a psychological difference - I didn't actually change how much I eat in an on-plan day, if that makes sense.

I've been holding at 158 this week as well. Not quite where I would like to be - I would like my maintenance range to be below 155, but it might be time for me to accept that may not be feasible.

So, I am trying to think of myself as in maintenance and get control over the binging behaviors. If I do manage to drop the maintenance range a little bit, that would be okay with me.

Martine

carter, good for you for being on plan 3 days straight. We all know how hard it can be to go back on plan after bingeing behaviours, it takes a lot of mental strength. Just keep telling yourself that you are in control of food, and not the other way around. It's one day at a time, one choice at a time.

I haven't totally shaken the cold that I caught last week, but this morning I feel much less congested, so plan is to try exercising tomorrow and see how that goes.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi Ladies. I dropped 2lbs earlier this week but have been static since. I did not exercise yesterday but will get back into the swing today. I was exahusted from work on tuesday.I was so busy I did not get to eat or drink right. I was 600 calories below goal after dinner and only wanted to sleep. I work Per diem (2x a month) and stay at home with my kids the rest. I will be increasing next month to help with bills.

Carter good job getting back on plan.

carter, good work on resisting the urge to binge. I know how hard that can be.

I've been all over the place with my eating, so my weight is bouncing around quite a bit. I weighed in at 134 this morning, which was a pleasant surprise. I'm still hoping to get to 125 by year end, but I'm going to have to be more consistently on plan for that to happen.

Sorry I'm late posting this....I've been away for a long time and really need to get going again and I didn't want to wait until October to start posting. Hopefully posting weight for all to see will give me the kick in the butt I need to get going.

I think I'll take the next few days off weighing myself because the disappointment I've felt every day my weight has gone up threw me off my diet. I'm going to refocus without checking results until I feel back in control.

sluggerbean, you're so close to 100 pounds lost - good job!

I had a good week, scale wise, down to 132/133. I just messed up my bad leg, though (tripped and fell, such a klutz) so I'm going to have to take a break from exercise and that worries me.

my no-weighing-in week was "eh". i know what i did wrong to result in bad weigh-ins. and this week i'm taking steps to change that. i still have hope of being 139 by the end of september! (:

Hi everyone! I've been MIA and you can probably guess why... I've been way off plan. It just made me so sad to change my ticker from the 160's back up to 182 since I stopped posting here in the summer. Let's see how much I can get off during the last week of September and then start October off strong!
