I'd really like to join a daily weigh-in thread so I hope you ladies don't mind if I jump on board. Goal for the month is 5 pounds.

1: 151.0
2: 150.2
3: 151.0 - I started Phase 3 of NROLFW last night (after 10 days of not lifting) and I really expected it to shoot up a few pounds today. Pleasantly surprised.
4: 150.0
5: 149.0 - TOM over and AHHHH! new decade!
6: 149.6
7: 149.8

8: 149.2
9: 149.0
10: 148.6 - Wow, nice! :goodvibes I usually go up the day after lifting.

21: 150.2

22: 149.8 - At least it's the right direction again... :/

Hello folks. :coffee:

I'm pleased to report that despite all the sturm und drang of July, the stuff I have been working through in my personal life and the trouble I had with a few binges in July, I started off August solidly at 156. That is really not bad at all, and leaves me with a decent net loss for June and July.

August 1 also marked 3 years into my weight loss process. So 3 years, ~120 pounds lost, much strength, fitness, and and energy gained, along with a fairly good boost to my vanity (my true motivator all along) and comfort with my body. I guess I can't complain about that.

Good luck and good strength to everyone today.

Here's to everyone reaching their goal this month!

So I start this month at 252.6, which is not as bad as I thought it would be after my vacation. My goal is to reach 240 by September. This week is going so well, i've been eating on plan and had a big workout on Sunday to start the week, with another one planned tomorrow.

Aug 1: -
Aug 2: 252.6

carter, that's great! And you should be proud of yourself for handling the emotional upheaval without going off the rails. I don't know about you, but I try to be realistic about the extent to which I can "fix" myself - food is always going to be my go-to for comfort, so my goal is to ty to minimize the damage when I do that.

I weighed in at 136.6 this morning, so the unexpected losses continue. I really don't get it but I'm not complaining. We're having a company picnic tonight, so I'm sure I'll bounce back up tomorrow.

Carter - That's great! Congrats on all you have accomplished so far! :cheer:

As for me TOM went away last night! Yay! Now I am looking forward to seeing how the month progresses! I want to reach my goal of being able to run a mile this month. I called my mom on the way to work and told her that. She immediately started in to me saying that I shouldn't try to do this yet because I am still so heavy. It annoyed me but I am not letting her doubt rain on my parade. Run a mile? Yes I will! :D Today I will run 0.32 miles or better on the office treadmill. Each day I will add a little more until by the end of the month I reach my goal.

I had a bit of a bounce up yesterday. I am sitting at 147.6 today. I am almost to my lowest weight as an adult, ~145-146, so my body is probably confused about what is going on. I'm sure the losses will be slow from here on out. I only have about 8 pounds until I reach the goal that I had actually set for myself over 3 years again. Here's hoping I'm on track to reach goal by the end of September. So I need August to get me closer.

Carter You have gained so many wonderful things during your weight loss journey. You should be so proud of yourself. Congrats on that 156, you worked hard on it!!!

Just took my youngest who is 5 and our dog for a walk. She ended up walking a bit behind because of my pace. The last .2 miles she kept telling me she could not walk anymore and I'm tired. I told her "You are strong, you can do it and each day will get easier." I am still only able to walk but did 1.2 miles. I wanted 1.5 but could not get her to walk anymore. I had walked 1.5 yesterday. Someday I will be jogging but not yet.

Sluggerbean congrats on your weigh in.

Steph good luck tonight. I went on a picnic on Saturday. My 2nd day of dieting I ended up eating the burger without a bun and had a salad with the lettuce and tomato. I did have some potato salad but just a few bites. You can do it and have fun. Just drink your water.

Carter, Diana and Domlacha Its nice to be in a group with people who have been there and gotten through the other side. Congrats on your weight loss.

sluggerbean, great whoosh!

I'm up over 137 again, as I knew I would be. I didn't stuff myself at the picnic but I went way over my calories for the day. No matter. The big news is that I won the door prize - a Kindle Fire! I'm stoked, as I never would have bought one for myself. I enjoy reading and I love books (I have lot of bookcases), so I'm curious to see how I'll like using an e-reader.

I went to the Talbot's outlet again today and bought 4 fall dresses for $20 each - sweet. And, the best part - size 10!

I hope everyone has something fun planned for the weekend. I'm going to a luau, which should be a hoot.

weight stay the same. I am not too sad. I am telling myself it will be better tomorrow. I walked 2 miles today while my youngest was at mini camp. We had cancelled our Y membership in May. It was just too much money and no one was using it. I think I will have to restart it because my walk yesterday was cut short because my youngest got tired. Maybe only I will join. That will cut it in half.

Hey folks, thanks for all the encouragement and kind words.

I did weigh in at 155 this morning which was so great to see - I can finally really think of 155 as my current low, not the travel-dehydration-induced 155 of my first days back from India, back in March. It's amazing that it took me so long to get here for real.

Anyway - at the Newport Jazz Festival this weekend - not much exercise and hopefully not much overeating too, I have good snacks with me and a plan to stick to. I will probably bounce a bit on Monday but - I hope not.

Glad to see so many of you also seeing losses to end the week - good luck and good strength through the weekend!

i bought myself one! it's amazing!
and the best thing is, if you have wifi or go to a place with wifi, you can access the android app store and download apps for yourself!
i downloaded a ton of *FREE* children apps. things like educational games, simple games, and even children's books for my siblings to use.

but watch carefully while in the market to make sure it's free. even though it may be, it'll still say "purchasing" instead of "downloading," and i've had a few heart attacks "purchasing" a free app. ;)

carter, I hope you're enjoying the Jazz Festival. Newport is quite the town.

I'm back down to 136.6 this morning. I had lunch with a friend yesterday and we splurged on dessert (a truly fabulous chocolate cake) but that was all I ate all day, so it worked out fine. It used to be that I would have a big lunch and still have dinner. I'm encouraged that I've been able to change that behavior.

ciao, I did download a free app and it made me register a credit card, so I had a brief moment of "What?" but I didn't get charged anything.

I seem to be hanging at 253 for the last few days. I was worried last night because I went over my limit 1200-1500 but with the walk I had yesterday I did not gain. I had the veggie burger at Red Robin and it was sooo good but 700+ calories. I just wanted a burger so I compromised. My total was 1626 instead of 1500. Not too much more.

I looked at the burgers I used to get and that meal was more calories than I now eat in a day. WOW. Amazing how many calories I used to eat and not think a think a thing about it.

Not sure if I am going to get a walk in today. Its very warm for here Western Washington state. In the mid 80's and we are having a yard sale. I am so sweaty and hot. I might try this evening if it cools down. We packed up early because it was getting so warm.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend.

I did not get a walk in today. It was just too darn hot. We are not used to the high 80/90's where I live. I wanted to after dinner but it is just miserable. I will try tomorrow. We did have a yard sale and I got sweaty setting up but that does not count. LOL.

No weigh-in today as I am still at Newport but I just want to say this: I ate very carefully at the festival yesterday and kept out of the snacks and festival treats. After the day's jazz I drank a dirty martini with my (carefully-ordered) dinner, went for a long walk, and then ate a fantastic ice cream cone of the sort you really only seem to find in summer resort towns.

The martini and the ice cream were TOTALLY worth it, and I am stating that here for the record so that when I get home, if I see a bounce on Monday, I have written testimony of how much I enjoyed those two treats that, for the most part, I assiduously avoid these days!

Good luck and good strength, folks. :coffee:

I am up a pound. I think because what Diana wrote about salt. I dont salt my food and you never know how much is in restaurant food. Also I was not able to walk yesterday. We were setting up the yard sale at 7am so I had no opportunity in the morning. It was too hot to even do the Wii last night. It was 84 inside. You guys are doing great :carrot: fight On :sumo:

My last WI was Thursday Aug.2 @ 151.2.Been doing a lot of running around since then,no time to exercise but did make better choices than i did the beginning of last month.Plan to hit the gym tomorrow and WI Tuesday.

Realized(some time ago) that i ovulate at the being of the months and usually start seeing the scale move closer towards the middle/end of the month.Anyway.. at this point,I'm not going to lose more than a lb or 2 a month cause I can't eat any less and sustain it for life.Totally crazy to develop a eating style that I won't be able to maintain and start to gain my weight back.

Will fight to get back to ticker weight :sumo:even tough i fought hard last month,I was on my way.seems that i ran out of month. My legs, muscles everywhere,(having to take pain pills) were hurting so bad from all the exercising.Learned how to use the treadmill and ran on a high incline for 2 long :o plus all the TRXing :dizzy: started doing jumping jacks, jumping rope..(lady on the desk,at the gym even told me that i need to give my body a rest and go home :o)

I'll get there :sumo:

Funny how pretty much the same number can produce such wildly different reactions. I was 149.6 this morning, my second 40's number in a row, and I'm so ecstatic!! I've never been below 180ish in my adult life so every new low is really a new low. Intellectually I knew I would get here but just seeing that 4 is such a surreal experience for me. I'm bouncing off the walls over here, emotionally-speaking. :D

Thistleberry- Congrats on the continued 140's. I could not even imagine. I was 140 about 20 years ago. I am trying for 160 but I think 140 might be a long long term goal. Congrats on your hard work. How long has it taken you to get this far?

Ciao-This is my first month counting so I am not sure if I will gain or not around TOM. I hope its over soon. Whine away girl.

Carter the music festive sounds fun. Glad you had a good time and only a little bump in your weight.

Diana no change is frustrating but better than a rise.

Heathymewannabe- its only a small gain and you have a good attitude. Just get back on track.

I am excited to see a drop today. I lost the pound I gained by eating out and then 2 more. I don't know if it was all the water I drank yesterday, the walking or just keeping in my range.

I do have a question. Yesterday I only had about 850 calories after dinner. It was hot and I just had small meals. I read if you don't eat at least 1200 calories/day you can slow your metabolism. I ended up eating a few almond and some frozen edamame to bring it up to 1218. There have been a few days I only eat around 1000 calories. Do you think I should make sure I get at least 1200/day? I just don't want to limit myself if it is just going to make it harder to loose.

I started back on April 1st 2011. (I get the feeling that will always stick in my mind. I didn't even think about it being the first of the month or April Fool's Day. I was just like, yep, Friday it is.) So it has taken 15 months to lose 80 pounds. I'm so excited to be losing again because May and June I hit a stall caused by a new birth control pill. I have since switched over to a generic of what I'd been taking previous to that (which is what I feel they ought to have prescribed in the first place but oh well) and I'm finally back on track. I was getting so frustrated and I was told time and time again by people irl that maybe my body was done but I just knew that wasn't right. I'm thrilled to have figured it out.

As to your question, it's going to take more than a few days to lower your metabolism so I wouldn't worry too much. So yes I don't think it's a serious problem to go below 1000 calories on some days but I would try to even it out with a high calorie count on others. I try to shoot for an average for the week so there are some days when I'm only at 1000 and others where I get 1600 and it all comes out in the wash.

Thank you. I had 1600 on Friday. So next time I will not worry so much about not being hungry but not having 1200 total for the day. This is all new for me so I may ask some silly questions.

Hey everyone! I am up today. Which I expected, just not quite so much! I'm sitting at 148.

Thistleberry I feel you on being in the 140s! I am so excited to be here and working to go back up! But I have a vacation starting on Thursday. I expect a gain. I hope my weight drops more before I leave.

As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect place to ask "silly" questions. Anyway, more often that not, they really aren't all that silly. :)
Are you taking a good multivitamin? One of the reasons they suggest you eat at least 1200 is that it's very hard to get all that good stuff through food alone whilst eating at that kind of deficit.

Oooh, Domlacha, I'll definitely cross my fingers for you that you get a little more wiggle room before your vacation. Where are you going?

Hi Everyone!

Carter Did you make it to the gym today?

Ciao Hang in there, the TTOM water weight will be gone soon.

Thistleberry Good job on the 140's!

Lishar Good job on your weigh in! I agree that you are supposed to eat a certain amount of calories in order to get the proper nutrition. I would also even out the lower calorie days with a higher calorie day.

Domlacha Good job on staying in the 140's after the weekend.

AKA Good job!

So I was up to 239lbs yesterday and am back down to 237.4lbs today (thankfully).

I had a bad weekend (eating wise) after a successful weigh-in on Friday. I am trying really hard to stay on track but everything seems so tempting. Hopefully I'll do better this week.

On a positive note, a few other girls at work have decided to eat healthier which makes it easier for me too.

Congrats to everyone on their success/continued efforts!

Went down another .6 pounds. From 298.8 yesterday to 298.2 today. I would have liked to see a whole pound, but it's near my TOM, and I'm on some meds right now my body isn't used to, so I'll take what I can get.

Hello folks :coffee:

Diana - I did make it to the gym yesterday, thanks for asking! Now trying to get self moving for today. ;)

I also overate quite a bit yesterday - no reason, just poor discipline probably magnified by sleep deprivation - and saw a great big bounce today, all the way up to 159. That is probably some delayed effect of the weekend too.

Ah well, back on the horse again... I am trying to think of myself as "maintaining below 160" rather than "trying to lose down to 150" so on that theory it is all good...

today's weigh in: TOM

yesterday i walked 5 miles and on the last mile (which i took later in the evening) i just had to run (6 miles total).
i'm feeling so much better today and i don't have to work past 7pm all week! that means no more staying up late until 12am or 1am, so my weight loss can finally be back on track. :)

@HealthyMeWannabe; you can definitely do it! just stay focused and remember to KEEP BREATHING STEADILY while you're running. good luck and let us know!

I weighed in at 136.4 this morning, which means I've lost 4 pounds in two months - soooo slow. But I think that's the best I can hope for, given that I don't want to limit myself to 1200 calories a day. At this rate, I can hit 125 by the end of the year.

We had gorgeous weather yesterday so I went for a walk after work with a friend. She chattered incessantly, so it was almost like listening to one of my audiobooks!

Diana, I got that book you recommended, by the recovered binge-eater. My first Kindle purchase! I've never been a binge eater to the extent the author was, nor have I ever purged, but it's interesting to get a different perspective.

Healthymewannabe- congrats on the dip. Progress.
Carter-Good job getting to the gym. Everyday we start again. A new day.
Diana every little bit adds up.
Ciao wow great job on your exercise. Someday I hope to work up to running.
Steph sorry for the slow loss. I don't think I am up to exercising with friends yet. I get too winded. I guess that would not matter with your talkative friend.

I had a great walk yesterday. I wanted to quit half way but I got past that and finished 2 miles in 45 min. Not the best but for me I am proud of myself for finishing. I kept saying to myself "I am strong" over and over.

Today I am working 12 hours so no walks. I will take my kids to the Y tomorrow and walk again. I love that they have childcare. I decided to go back because of that.

Diana: Congrats on the .4!
Healthymewannabe: Congrats on being back on track!

Big whoosh of weight gone from yesterday to today. I'm still working on water weight here, so not surprising.

devnet, that's a great loss, keep it up!

So it's my TOM and I'm now thinking that it's no use weighing myself anymore during that period, because I'm all over the place. Was 254, the next day 258.2 and today at 251.6.

i've been working overtime, so I haven't exercised the past few days, but I'm happy to say that I've been eating really well (lots of planning) and I've resisted the tub of ice cream in the freezer (3 small spoonfulls only and that's it).

Ciao That's great on walking/running six miles!

Steph7409 Four pound loss in two months is great. Just imagine how much you will have lost at the end of the year.

So I am back down to 235.6lbs, which is what I started the week at. Seems like all the water weight and sodium wore off. Hopefully next week will be more successful.

Ciao Good job on the walk/run!

Steph There are a few points in the book that I find interesting and can relate to. The first one being the voices in her head and how important it is to tell that voice no. Also, I remember when I had lost weight before, the voices would tell me it was ok to eat something just this once. Then I kept doing it until I had gained all the weight back. The other thing I can relate to is that dieting or even weight loss for that matter makes you more prone to binging. I have even noticed that I have more issues since I've developed my food allergy. I haven't finished the book, yet. Not sure if I am going to get anything else out of it. I really don't think my eating issues are childhood related like the therapists in the book suggested. I really like that the book is from a different perspective and the idea that you can just talk to yourself and just say no to the voices. I know that sounds so simple. I find it helpful knowing that the other voice is something that we evolved from and it's not a realistic voice from today. Does that make sense?

Lishar Good job on that walk! You are strong and you can do it!

Devnet Good job on the 2.6 pounds!

TOM has finally ended for me.
i don't even know what to say to this. should i be happy about this?
after bouncing around 148/149 since july 31st, i finally had a significant drop. and since there's no more bloating, i don't have to battle with TOM weight gain anymore.

i think the scale is just trying to make me happy. ;)
the same thing happened to DH. he was 202.8 one day and the next he was 200.8. maybe our digital scale is just whacky! lol!

but anyways, yesterday i took my sister on a 4.2 mile walk. then, later in the evening, i completed a 4.2 mile run WITHOUT STOPPING!!!
i haven't even trained for a 5K, yet i surpassed one last night!

i don't even know what came over me.
as forrest gump once said, " For no particular reason I just kept on going."

I'm still under 137, at 136.6. I haven't been exercising much the past few days because I'm really tired and my leg has been hurting a lot. I'd been averaging about 80 minutes a day, so I think I need to take it easy for a bit. I sometimes struggle to keep the mindset of "diet for weight loss, exercise for fitness."

I'm having one of those days at work where I just want to bang my head on my desk. Aargh.

No change from the last few days. I was able to walk today. I watched my heart rate more this time and kept it in a better range of 140's. Monday I think it was too high 150's. So I am happy about that. 2.2 miles I feel good about that. I had a yummy sandwich at subway black forest ham only 380 calories. Hopefully keeping my calories down and walking will have been lower in weight tomorrow.

Congats on all the weight loss ladies.

I am at about 255 pounds. I lost like 3 pounds in one day probably from water weight. I have been lowering my sodium to about less than 1,200 milligrams a day (due to high blood pressure and wanting to get off the pill they gave me for it as well). But I am trying to eat between 1,200 and 2,000 calories a day.
I heard from a good personal trainer online (Chris Powell) that if you change your daily intake of calories (from low to high on different days) then your metabolism will not get used to that low calorie intake and you will have a better time loosing weight. He helps people lose alot of weight, like 250 pounds a year for one person. I love the show he does. It is called extreme makeover weight loss edition. I watch it online through hulu (for free of course).
It is awesome and it helps me, if they can do it, so can I!

Getting up every morning reminds me of when we were trying to get pregnant. I would wake up every morning to pee on a stick . Better now all I have to do is step on a scale.

Diana- Thank you again. I made sure my calories were at least 1300 calories last night. I had bought a 100 calorie ice cream sandwich for myself and my family. I ended July at 269.2 and then went on vacation to visit family. I ate like crap but tried to not eat a lot and I walked a lot. I'm back in town now and am back on plan! I still lost about a lb while I was gone, which is shocking. I really expected the scale to go up quite a bit. But I'll take it!!

I would really like to be down to 262 by the end of the month, which will be a total of 25 lbs. lost.

STARTING: 269.2
10 - 268.2
11 - 267 (that's 20 lbs. lost so far!)
12 - 265.6 (-3.6 for month)

13 - 265.6
14 - 265.8
15 - 268 (went over calories yesterday with queso and margaritas !!)
16 - 270
17 - 268 (back on plan yesterday)
18 - 266.6
19- 265.2 (-4 for the month)

20 - 264.8
21 - 265.4 (salted peanuts last night)
22 - 265.4 (was really hoping to see 264 again)
23 - 266 (I'm not sure what is going)
24 - 265.6 (was NOT on plan yesterday!)
25 - 264.8 (back on plan)
26 - 265.4 (.2 gain, -3.8 for month)

27 - 267 (bad day yesterday. But this is a new week and I am back on plan and will stay on plan!)
28 - 265.6
29 - 264.8 (that's nice to see again)
30 - 265.8
31 - 264.8 (-4.4 for the month)

Well I am 249.5lbs again. I was not really surprised since I lost 2 yesterday. Not going to the gym today. I will take my youngest daughter and our dog for a long walk. I wore them out last time LOL.

My oldest is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and on the demonstration team for her school. Our town is having a street fair and she will be performing all afternoon. She is so excited. She will be there so it's just me and the little one today :). My DH works nights. I will get some walking done looking around. I just need to get used to saying "NO I am not buying that". My 5 year old is a little consumer. She wants me to buy her everything.

Devnet- wow you just keep loosing. Great job.

Texas Yankee- glad you had a nice suprise back from vacation. Eating out on vacation and all the temptations would be hard. Great job. The walking did not hurt. That would be my next hurdle. I went out to eat and that was stressful.

Diana you seem to go down each day. Btw what scale do you have? It reads by tenths of a pound?

Martine - thanks I had another one last night but had some yummy cherries instead when I was done because yet again I wanted more :o? Woohoo 4 pounds lost wtg girl.

Diana you seem to go down each day. Btw what scale do you have? It reads by tenths of a pound?

Lishar I am actually getting rid of some water weight right now (or hope so). I had a sodium gain this week. I have been battling an allergic reaction this month, too, which causes me to gain water weight. Also, if that's not enough, my thyroid has been out of whack, so my weight has been on the higher side. The Endo changed my meds last month. I'm hoping things will get back to normal, soon (whatever normal is ) This is the scale that I have: http://www.tanita.com/en/hd351/ I have probably had it 10-15 years. I had to go with a specialty scale originally because I was close to 400 pounds at the time. Most scales don't weigh that high.

ETA: Also, my plan for maintenance has been different than what a lot of people recommend. I slowly lose a few pounds and then I am able to splurge on special occasions, holidays, vacation, etc. I will gain a couple of pounds and repeat the cycle. I have never been able to maintain any weight loss. I have been doing it this way since May 2011, and it has worked so far.

I've had an uneven couple of days. A cricket has gotten into my house and is ruining my sleep - it sounds like someone is blowing a whistle, right by my ear! I keep moving my mattress around and it keeps following me - it's like being stalked. My bug-hunting cat Sadie and I keep trying to find it, but no luck so far - even when I feel like it must be right in front on me. So I'm tired and cranky and have been eating too much.

But I'm still under 137, so maybe I can get to 135 this month.

Let's all keep up the good work!

We went to the street fair today. I saw they had Indian Fry bread. Oh I really really love Indian fry bread. I had to walk away. Thankfully I did not smell it. I bought my daughter a snow cone but did not have any. I was tempted because it was warm today. I got something for myself for a change. I got a Henna Tattoo to celebrate 2 wks of eating healthy/ no soda or coffee, and exercising regularly. Here it is.

Ciao Congrats to your DH!

Devnet Good job on the .8!

Packgirl Hi

Steph I also feel great after I workout! Today I did a 60 minute Kickboxing workout! It was awesome! The sweat was flying. I hope the cricket leaves so you can get some rest. That's frustrating for sure. I had problems last year with a new neighbor. He was leaving for work at 3 AM. He has a loud muffler on his truck and blares loud music. He would rev his engine at blare loud music at that hour. I couldn't go back to sleep. I was so grateful when his job situation changed.

Lishar - How pretty! :D I love it! How long do those last?

Today was my official weigh in. I weighed 259 today. That's a pound up from last week's official weigh in. I can only attribute it to more exercise than usual. Perhaps I am gaining muscle from all the running, biking, and hiking (did a 2 hour hike yesterday). I'm not disappointed in what I've done this week but definitely an frustrated that the scale isn't reflecting my hard work this week.

Well down .5lbs to 249 even. Better down than up right? At least I am not staying still. Not sure what I am going to do about exercise today.

Diana I hope you are having a great weekend.

HealthyMeWannabe- It should stay about 3wks. The henna came off and now its a light brown but still pretty. Drink more water to let those muscles release the water. I also read eating more protein helps build muscle. Good luck this week.

Diana- Wow and hour of kickboxing would make me fall on the floor. :o Great job. I hope to some day work up to that. Your neighbor sounds obnoxious. Who would do that so early in the morning? Glad he is working a different shift.

I ate 2 bagels yesterday (a now rare indulgence, but something I used to do regularly)so I wasn't surprised to see 137 this morning. But then I weighed myself after a 90-minute walk, before my shower, and it said 135.2. If only!! I'd be happy with the average there.

The cricket is still in my living room, but at least I can sleep now. Diana. I've had some horribly noisy neighbors too. When people (or their dogs) interrupt my sleep, I want to kill them.

Lisha, I love that tattoo!

I'm just not quite sure how to get back on track. This new job makes me so hungry and tired--when I'm hungry and tired I don't say no to the extra sweets and big burgers. Maybe it's time to stop making excuses??:o I have to start counting my calories again and planning ahead. If I can get past this hurdle and start loosing again it will be a new accomplishment for me, if I gain back my weight it will be the same old disappointing me. I don't want to be her!
My dad has always been big and it has finally caught up with him. (Congestive heart Failure/ A-fib/ A big hole where a valve is suppose to be) He needs open heart surgery but he's so heavy (along with bad health) that they really don't think he'd make it through the surgery. So, he's home drowning in fluids and trying to loose weight so he might have a successful procedure. You would think this would make me stay away from the unhealthy eating....what is my deal? I certainly don't want my children to be facing my own early death some day.
well, I guess I'm done blubbering. Getting on here was a step for me to get back on track. Thx for still being here everybody:hug:

Hi Everyone!

TTOM showed up this afternoon. Oh joy! NOT! That's the big problem with having longer TTOM's. Since it's so long, it shows up again so soon.

Lishar Good job on the .5.

Steph If you continue to have issues with the cricket, you can always use earplugs. They are very inexpensive. I use earplugs since we live in a noisy area. The funny thing is that they didn't work with the crazy neighbor across the street. Oh yeah! I wanted to kill him alright! I actually said a prayer, though. I asked the Lord to take care of my problem. The next thing I knew he wasn't going to work at that early hour. Then I felt guilty that he had lost his job. He hadn't lost high job, though. He was put on a normal shift. I felt so blessed that I was able to sleep again. That had went on for months and I was a miserable individual.

Nicole Good job!

Kelly Hi  It's good to see you. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's health. Saying a prayer for your Dad. I would definitely start counting calories again. You might try volume eating, too. Lower calorie, nutritious foods that you can eat a lot of. It will keep you full for a longer period of time. Hang in there. Please come back and post anytime you get a chance. We want to see you succeed with this. You will show others that you can live a busy life but be healthy at the same time. You can do it.

Wow! You ladies are sure kicking butt in those workouts! 60-minute kickboxing workout for Diana, 6.3 miles ran for Ciao, that's amazing. Exercise is my weak point, I can do aerobics for about 20 minutes max and walk for 5km, but I don't do it nearly enough.

I had some thai food last night, so I won't take into account the gain this morning. Hopefully will see the weight go back down quickly enough.

Good news: I killed the cricket (sucked it up with my vaccuum cleaner after finally spotting it behind a bookcase).

Bad news: I'm back up to 137. I went out for lunch yesterday and had a cheeseburger (no bun) and fries. Very tasty, worth every calorie.

I walked 6 miles in 90 minutes yesterday morning and felt great, but paid for it later with this shin splint thing that won't go away. It's a little better today, though.

Kelly, I think you've done a good job at maintaining while you adjust to your new job. Being tired makes it really hard for me to stay on plan, so I totally sympathize. Do you have any opportunities to take a nap on your off days? I found during tax season that a nap was a good way to indulge myself, better than eating a pint of ice cream (my prior self-indulgence). And I had a drawer full of protein bars and 100 calorie snack packs at my office, which helped me stay away from the endless parade of treats here. You'll find a strategy that works for you, I know it.

Hi folks. :coffee:

My eating has been pretty bad over the past week - some binges, some garden-variety overeating.

I'm mentally tired and it's killing my discipline.

I'm going to try to recommit to sticking to my plan, today. Then I'll do it again tomorrow. ;)

I also had a completely surreal weekend - this has nothing to do with my eating but it's a great story: an SUV crashed into my front door on Saturday. Amazingly, no one was seriously hurt. There is quite a bit of damage to the property. But it could have been so much worse, in so many ways - for the driver and her passengers, for people who might have been on the sidewalk or in the yard, for my home which could have been damaged to the point where I and others who live there would have had to leave - that the emotion I feel most strongly is gratitude!

Take care everyone.

Well the orientation went ok. I did not do any weight training today. It will take about a hour and a half to do the whole thing. I did not have enough time left. I can only leave my kids there for 2 hours. Just as well I needed to look up how to do some of the exercises.

Morning folks. :coffee:

Thanks for the wishes - that accident was the weirdest thing I have ever had happen, but it is really a miracle that it wasn't worse. Now begins the long slow process of getting the front entrance fixed and arguing with insurance companies to get it paid for.

As for plan: I managed to stay completely on plan yesterday (yay!) and weighed in back below 160 today - at 159. I will take it - period is coming so a few pounds of bloat is the best I can hope for.

I'd like people newer to this process to take note - even at my current weight, my fluid weight swings are still as high as 5 pounds - I am not sure exactly, but I know even that week of poor eating wasn't responsible for more than a pound or two of actual fat gain, at most. When I ballooned back up into the 160s over the space of a few days, most of that was fluid retention. So please, please, PLEASE don't lose heart when you see your weight go up (or not go down) for a week or two. Fluid swings can be BIG and can easily mask a week or two or three of real fat loss.

Hello everyone!! It has been a while since I last checked in. My vacation was fun, not as exciting as it could have been due to the weather, but fun. I ate and drank way too much alcohol and that combined with tom last week, my weight is outta control!! I know that most of it is water but man its scary. So I'm back on plan today and will hope for lower numbers to keep rolling through.

Back after a few days. I fell off the wagon for one day, then ate too much salt the next day, and paid for it in four pounds of water weight (yeesh). It's going back down. I'm down from 294.4 yesterday to 292.8 today. Shouldn't be long before I'm back to (and then under) my ticker weight.

Good Morning, Everyone!

I'm not sure what's going on with me. For those who have been following this thread for a while, know that my thyroid meds/numbers were off. This year my weight has not dropped at all. I have pretty much maintained at the upper end of my maintenance range. That's not necessarily bad, but it's not where I want to be. A month and a half ago the endo changed my thyroid meds since my labs were over 10 and she wants them under 4. I know stress can cause problems with your thyroid (as most of you know, I lost my Mom back in June). I have also struggled with a couple allergic reactions over the Summer. I feel like I am holding onto a lot of water weight. I'm sure I am right now since it's TTOM. I have stuck to my food and exercise plan 100%. Next week I am scheduled to have my thyroid labs done again. We'll see what that shows. I am hoping it's just a thyroid issue. There's always that fear that my body has adjusted to something and wants to gain weight again. I'm not sure if that's even possible. I am feeling that when my thyroid meds were off, I had the stress of my Mom being sick, and she passed that I actually gained a few pounds. If this is true, I actually gained from eating the same way I have all along. Unless, it's water weight. I'm not sure if the thyroid will make you hold onto water weight. I assume it could since they thyroid controls everything in the body. Anyways, just trying to put things down and figure out what's going on with me.

savages, a 9-pound loss is great, be it water weight or actual weight, take it and run with it.

Diana, stress will always trigger weight gain for most people, meds or not. Here's hoping your appointment next week will show that your medication is doing its job.

This morning I weighed in at 250 on the dot. So the weight gain from salt and water retention from the thai food the other night is gone and I'm back on track.

Hey ladies ! Weight lifting went ok yesterday. I made it through most of my sets but like the run yesterday, I felt overly tired and like it was so hard! Long vacations and lots of booze will to that to you I suppose. I'm down another 1.2 lbs of water weight this morning to 153.0. I wonder how long it'll take me to get back to around 147 ( I had that beautiful 146.8 for a day). I'm gonna keep trucking along. Plan to try a longer run today and stay within my calories. Stay strong everyone!!

Diana Give your body some more time to adjust to the life stresses you have had. Hopefully you lab results will help shed some light onto things. But keep pushing on.

Nice weight in Ciao

Hi all,

I've had a bad couple of days - stresses at work, relationship trouble, some sad news - so I've been cranky. I seriously thought about going on a binge last night but went for a long walk instead (I'm up to 90 minutes). I did do a little self-medicating with a bowl of ice cream, but it could have been worse! I'm bouncing between 136 and 137, still. I'm going to have to really buckle down to lose any more and I just don't feel like it. (Cue the violins!)

Domlacha, I hope you enjoyed your vacation! It is amazing, though, how quickly we can lose conditioning.

Diana, thryoid stuff is tricky. I hope you get some useful information next week.

Savages and Hannah, nice losses!

Howdy everyone! Official weigh-in day: down .8 this week to 233.2. I have probably lost more but my knee has been swollen for over a week and I know that extra fluid is adding up. :( On the brighter side, my knee wasn't painful today so I did an hour of cleaning for my exercise! :D

Hope everyone has a good Thursday!!

Confused and annoyed. Two days ago I was at 292.8. Then for seemingly no reason, I bounced up to 293.4 yesterday. Today, I am still at 293.4. I've been eating quite well and under my limit every day. Bah. Lack of change makes me grumpy, lol.

Diana I hope you can find answers next week. I know hypothyroid slows your metobolism.

Martine glad you are getting back on track.

Sucessfulhannah- congrats on the drop

Ciao good idea increasing your calories with all your running

Domlacha I hear you about being tires after workouts.

Steph good for you taking the long walk. A little ice cream never hurt anyone.:)

Sluggerbean glad you had a better weigh in. I hope your knee is better soon.

Devnet I understand your frustration.

I am down again to 247.5. I got my heart rate monitor and walked an hour/3 miles. I did notice a big difference between the treadmill calories and HM calories. I am so tired after. I made sure I ate a good lunch after my workout. I was exhausted yesterday too after my weight training.

I think I need to up my calories a bit. So I am going from 1200 to 1500/day. I hope this helps. Kind of defeats it if I take a nap and lay on the couch. I put sedentary first for my calories but now I am exercising 5x a week.

Lishar, at your weight I was able to lose very reliably on 1700-1900 calories per day. (Even now my plan is about 1500 calories per day.) I think upping your calories is a good idea and will help you feel better, especially if you are incorporating strength training.

My own view is that one should eat as many calories as one can get away with. Apart from fueling your body properly, it gives you wiggle-room to decrease your calories if you need to when you get closer to a healthy weight range.

Okay, my report - I've been on plan every day this week and I'm on track to be on plan today as well. Huzzah! Weighed in this morning at 158. I've said before that I was hoping to get well into the low 150s this summer. It still might not happen. But I have been training pretty hard, so maybe - just maybe - I have a little body recomposition going on. I'm feeling pretty trim and I've been complimented a couple of times for looking buff. I'll think that, optimistically. ;)

Oh, thanks for the kind words about my house. We're starting to work on figuring out what needs to be done for the repairs, and how to get the various insurance companies to pay for it.

Take care everyone.

Just my opinion, but I don't think devnet's experience counts as a plateau and I don't think any tweaking of plan or attempt to "trick your body" is necessary.

Devnet is talking about a bounce of a half a pound - a half a pound! - over two days. That is not a plateau. That is perhaps a little bit of undigested food in the intestines, or a small bit of fluid retention. Trying to make changes to your plan and evaluate whether those changes are working based upon two days' worth of data is a fool's errand.

Daily fluctuations happen. Your weight on any particular day depends on a whole lot more than whether you were on plan yesterday, and most of those factors are out of your control. That is something that all of us on the daily weighing thread learn about our bodies and learn to live with. Your weight can fluctuate day-to-day by as much as 3-4 pounds based upon fluid retention, which depends upon a whole host of factors - sodium intake, hydration, weather, hormones, changes in exercise level, and on and on. You can't control for all of these - all you can do is look at a longer time scale.

The relevant time scale is not whether you weigh less than yesterday, or even whether you weigh less than you did last week - it's whether you weigh less than you did a month or two ago. Weighing every day is great for learning your body's patterns and understanding what daily fluctuations look like. But if you want to know whether your plan is working, you won't get meaningful data by looking at day-to-day changes.

Carter: Thank you for the insight. I wasn't thinking that my plan wasn't working; really, I'm just impatient to get rid of the water weight I put on from going off plan one day last week, so seeing it going up again was just annoying, and seeing it stay up was even more annoying, lol.

Thank you though, I do know I need to work on my patience.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all the support with whatever my potential problem is. I can't do anything about the thyroid right now. If that's an issue the Dr. will address that in a couple weeks. Something else has kinda clicked or maybe I should say erupted today. I mentioned about the allergic reactions I have had. I feel I have had a lot of issues with this recently. DH and I have been going to this one particular restaurant quite regularly in the last month. It is a great family owned restaurant that specializes in local seafood and produce, etc. Anyways, DH spoke with the owner one day and told him about my "food allergy". He said his mom has a similar issue and it just started out of the blue one day, like mine did. He said that he could cook my food how I needed it cooked, so I have been thrilled with that. A couple times we went there, my food was prepared how I wanted it about the oil, but I still noticed it had some salty seasoning on it. Although I requested it without seasoning. One time I had to order collard greens because of the limit of side items. I don't know what kind of seasoning that they use there. Some seasonings contain soy and I have read that MSG also contains soy. Anyways, I have been taking Benadryl for about 2 weeks now and my mouth was clearing up. Today my mouth started breaking out again. Last night we went to that restaurant and I ordered their collard greens. I told DH that I don't want to go back to that restaurant for a couple weeks and see how it goes. I think I am going to have to stick with plain grilled protein and steamed broccoli. If I can't get that, then I can't eat there.

If my new thyroid meds are correct, the problem has to be my food allergy. We have probably eaten at this place 4 times in the last few weeks. It takes a while for the allergy to clear up. So I have been reacting nonstop, but not as bad because of the Benadryl. It makes sense and adds up to me. :dizzy: I will see how it goes between now and my thyroid appointment. I had this same problem when I first realized that I had a food allergy.

I know you will do fine. I need to work on my patience too, even after all this time! But i am also sorry, my post came out a little sharper in tone than it should have. It was more directed at TNCindy66, who suggested your ordinary small two-day bounce was a plateau. But even so, I shouldn't have been so sharp! So apologies to both of you.

I managed another day on plan - that is 4 in a row now, not bad for how I've been struggling lately - and I'm down to 157 this morning. So things are looking okay with respect to the process, at the moment.

Good morning. I am up half a pound. I upped my calories to 1500 yesterday. We will see if this helps with my post workout fatigue. I have Zumba and the a bit on the treadmill today. I am not sure if I want to weight train on Saturday. I am already nervous about the weight room. Going when there will be more people might not be a good idea.

Well I weighed myself an hour later. I had gotten up early because DH is going away this weekend. Before eating and after the bathroom again I weight 1.5lbs less. WTF. I guess I need a new scale. I rezeroed it several times and it was 247/246/246.5. So I kept the 246.5. I don't think I lost 1.5lbs in urine.

Carter: It's all good. I knew why it came out the way it did. Way to go for staying on plan!

So I'm *still* at 293.4. That's just a little odd for me. I'm always bouncing up and down, even if it's just by 0.1. I don't think I've ever seen the exact same weight two days in a row before, never mind three.

*shrug* I read an article yesterday about most low carbers stalling after the first two weeks 'cos the body basically panics from the lost water and starts retaining to try to normalize things again, but you can still be losing fat during this 'stall'. I'm hoping that's what this is.

Has that happened to anyone else here who does low carb? Also, yes I know I'm impatient, lol.

Devnet we are all impatient, well I am. Just keep drinking your water and eating on plan. I am not doing low carbs per se but I am eating higher protein and less packaged foods. I am sure my carbs are less than what I was eating. I kept the same weight the 2nd week for several days the bam, I lost 3lbs.

Diana have a great weekend too.

I guess my scale was right I am 245 today. 20lbs lost in 3 wks not bad. I am sure it won't continue this fast. The first bit was water weight.

DH is away this weekend so it's just us girls at home. I have a 5 and 8 year old. Not sure what our plan is. Might be exciting like bra shoppingM:lol: Sometimes taking my girls shopping is like being in the 5th level of ****.

My fitbit arrives today. I am so excited. I was not expecting to get a heart monitor and a fitbit. I was telling DH about my calories burned at Zumba and he asked If I wore it all day would I know what I burned during the day. I told him no but the fitbit does that. Right away he told me to buy one. Since I am counting calories he said it would be better to know calories in and out. I am thankful he is being supportive.

afternoon, ladies! :)
i didn't weigh in today because i ate terribly yesterday.

but this morning i did get up at 7am to go to cross country conditioning.
we did a mile warm up, then a mile "speed run" (not full-out sprinting, but just enough to keep your heart rate up), and then a two mile time trial, ending with a one mile cool-down. that's five miles all together.

the two mile time trial was difficult for me today since i got very little sleep last night (i worked until 1am). my time for completing the two mile was 19:14, which beats my own personal record of 24 minutes. :D

also, right before finishing i went on a gagging spree. my body felt like throwing up but i had a light breakfast in the morning so i couldn't. it realy sucked because i wanted to finish the race strong with a sprint but i couldn't with my body gagging! oh well, i definitely pushed myself and that's all that matters. :)

Okay, so...I'm really getting confused here. I weighed myself as soon as I got up and went to the washroom this morning. The scale said 293.2. I was happy it had finally moved a little...I went away for a couple minutes, and just to double check, I weighed myself again...apparently in two minutes, I gained over a pound?? Now it said 294.4 pounds. Then I went away for ten minutes and tried again (because now I was seriously confused), and it said 294.0. At this point I still had not drank or ate anything. All I can say is...buh?

Well I have good news to report - I've now been 6 full days completely on plan without any overeating or binging. And, I weighed in this morning at 155, matching my best low, and making my stats at the left there not a lie for only the second time since March. ;)

Still contemplating my transition to maintenance, but I would much rather maintain under 155 than under 160, so I'm glad to be here, and ready to try to string together another week or two on plan.

carter, are you saying that staying on plan helps you lose weight? I may have to give that a try. I let the stress at work get to me last week and just ate terribly. I've done slightly better this weekend but am a bit disappointed in my efforts. But congrats to you - good work!

I did something a little different today for exercise. Instead of going to the park and walking in circles, I walked the 1/2 mile or so to the small downtown core of Albany. Albany is set on a hill, so I walked up to the capitol building and then down to the old railroad station and back up again. There was a surprising amount of traffic (vehicular and pedestrian) and I got tired of waiting at stop lights to cross the street, so I was happy to find a great set of stairs by City Hall. I ran up and down them half a dozen times, getting quite winded by the end. And then I had to get up the short but very steep hill to my house, so it was a good workout.

Here's wishing me and everyone else a good week this week!

carter, are you saying that staying on plan helps you lose weight? I may have to give that a try.

I know, right? Who knew? Hahaha.

In seriousness, though, it's actually quite a relief to me that after all that struggling, staying on plan for just one week was enough to get me back where I wanted to be. It is another reminder for me that "well, I've been eating like crap for however long, I've blown it, may as well eat [whatever]" thinking is very illogical. Even a bounce from an extended period of the most uncontrolled eating can be temporary, if you just put it behind you and get back to the task at hand.

And this morning, I'm glad to say, I weigh in at 154, a legitimate new low - first new low in a long, long time. That's pretty neat, too. It sure makes me want to string together another on-plan week! I am going to visit a friend this weekend and I am sure there will be lots of eating and very little exercise during that visit. Would like to have a strong week leading into that.

Good luck and good strength to all!

today's weigh in: 147.8 lbs

i had a big gain from yesterday. not sure how, seeing as i ate well and stayed on plan. oh well, hopefully tomorrow is better! :)

today i ran 6 miles in 60 minutes. i wanted to do more but my coach wouldn't let me.

to some, 6 miles seems really great! and for me it's great, too! i'm happy, but i know i could've "done one more lap" or done "5 more minutes."

we had a time trial yesterday and since i got only 5 hours of sleep, my two mile time was really slow. so now the coach thinks i can't do the runs that the other seniors can. but it's not that i can't do them, i just can't do them AS FAST as the other seniors. when i ran alone (before i joined the cross country team) i had trained my body for slow, long endurance (leisure running). now after joining the cross country team a week ago, i have to train my body for faster endurance (race running). and since i'm slowER the coach takes it as me not being able to do certain workouts like everyone else and it's really frustrating.

well, today when i wanted to do "one more lap" or "5 more minutes" the coach stopped me because he wants me to "be healthy". it never even crossed my mind that wanting to do WHAT THE OTHER SENIORS ARE DOING was unhealthy for me. i've always had a positive mind set and i just want to push myself to be better. when i'm tired of running, i stop. when i want to run more, i do.

i didn't feel like i was overworking myself at all. i felt like i was becoming better by doing a little more than what i usually do. i just wish the coach would see that. but, for now, since it's only the beginning of the season i'm going to trust in him as my coach for the training i need. i'm going to trust the process and continually update him on my own personal progress.

this stubbornness and determination from me will surely be great during our 5k race days.

ugh. cross country problems. lol. /rant

I think everyone knows that I have a food allergy. I have already been to an allergist, but they didn't find anything wrong. A friend of mine has a couple of food allergies. She found a Dr. that has helped her. I have been struggling with my food allergy for a couple years, now. Today I called her Dr. and made an appointment. My appointment is next Monday. I hope they can figure out what's wrong with me. I still think it's peanuts/soy. Most of the restaurants where we eat know how to cook my food. Every now and again we will eat at a different place and I will have an issue. The problem is that my allergy doesn't happen immediately, it's a delayed reaction. It seems to have gotten worse, though, with even the smallest amount of allergen. I am feeling hopeful and can't wait for the appointment to get here. The bad thing is that I can't take any more antihistamines until my appointment. Hopefully I don't get into anything in the mean time.

Steph Sounds like you had a great workout yesterday!

I weighed in at 136.4 this morning. Even with my nutty eating, I had stayed right around 137. I'd like to get back to losing 1/2 pound a week so I could get into the 120s by the end of the year.

See saw. Down half a pound. I am happy because I did weight training yesterday. I read after lifting you might hold onto some water in your muscles. So I am drinking more water today and am just going to do cardio.

I am so tired today. My youngest decided to wake up at 4am. She woke me up about every 20-30 min until 7. This is the first morning I wish I had some coffee. :)

Steph I hope you make your goal. I think I would fall in a pile if I had to run more that a few yards too. I am just walking and trying to get my heart able to handle the extra stress.

Diana I hope they find an answer for you. It must be frustrating.

I'm back again. I never really left, just kind of been hanging in the shadows (that sounds creepy) for the past while. This whole year has sucked. Have had a LOT of bad things go on, everything from quitting work to moving back in with parents, to grandfather being diagnosed with cancer, to him passing way, family feuds, stress with parents, depression and adjustment disorder, and weight gain. The rest of 2012 better be awesome to make up for how crappy the first part was.

May/June saw me balloon up to 278. I'm back down to 261, but I'm hoping to lose way, way more.

This morning I weighed in at 261.4, which is a 1.4 lb loss from yesterday's 262.8.

I've started taking alpha lipoic acid and chromium for insulin resistance (which I had completely forgot I had; doctor told me about it -years- ago) so we'll see if that helps.

I'm trying to keep track of what I eat, but I admit when you work from home it's REALLY hard to remember to eat. I was so used to making a lunch and packing it to work with me, now i don't have to because I work whenever I feel like it (I work every day, I just don't have a strict schedule) and I don't work 8 hours a day.

Anyway - I'm back. Not sure for how long.. I have a cycle of trying really hard, and then getting disappointed over SOMETHING (could be anything, a gain, not a big enough loss, being too hot out, etc etc) and I give up. My fault. No excuses. I'm going to try to avoid it this time. (like I said last time).

Anyway... 1.4lb down. That is a yay.

Steph Good job on the 1 day in a row! :carrot: Nothing wrong with that! Tomorrow I go for my labs and then I will see the Endo next week. Unless I get a phone call like the last time, "What is going on with you?" Hmm, you are the Doc, tell me. I will update when I get some info.

Lishar Good job on the .5. I hope you can rest better tonight.

Rainbowgirl I am sorry to hear about all of the stress that you have been going though. Hang in there. It sounds like you've got it under control and back on track. :bravo:

today's weigh in: 147.4 lbs

so i'm going to take my calories back down to 1400. it seems that being in the 1600 calorie range has made me flip flop around gaining weight (i was 145 before increasing my calories). so we'll see how that helps! trial and error. :)

Morning folks :coffee:

Well, I broke my string of on-plan days, went somewhat over yesterday with some chocolate at the end of the day that I should have got out of the house instead of eating!

These things happen. I also saw a bounce today back up to 156, which may or may not be related to the chocolate. No matter, it is nice to be in a place where a bounce takes me up to 156!

I am also fighting off a cold, which isn't helping!

Have a good day, everyone.

Good Morning!! I had an excellent visit yesterday with the doctor. My blood work was great and even better at his office yesterday I was 230 and this morning on my scale I was 230.0!!! One more pound and I am halfway to goal!!!

I'm a bit perplexed at the moment and a little annoyed with the scale, so I bring to you good ladies a question. I got a tetanus shot on Monday. My arm felt like I was dragging a club around yesterday and still hurts today. Do you suppose a tetanus shot can cause water retention? It's the only explanation I can come up with that makes any sense aside from good old-fashioned body fat-shedding stubborness.

I weighed in at 136 today, even though I snacked for no good reason late last night. There's usually a bit of a delay, though, so I'll probably be up again tomorrow.

I keep thinking back to when I was eating only 1200-1300 calories a day and wonder how I did it. It seems impossible now, but clearly it's not. Maybe it just doesn't seem necessary to me at this point, since I'm fairly close to my goal.

On an unrelated note, I'm getting my new bathroom fixtures tonight, in the hopes the work will begin next week. It's going to be a huge hassle (no shower for a few days, I'll be using the tiny half bath for everything else, the cats are going to be a problem) but I'm hoping the end result will be worth it. Nothing in my old house ever goes smoothly, though, so...we'll see.

My weight training was hard today. I hard a very difficult walk on the treadmill after. I hard to force myself hard not to quit. I was Soo hungry after which is new for me. I made sure I had lots of protein in my salad which was so yummy. One good thing is I am tired but not exhausted like last week. So eating more calories is helping with that.

Anyone else excited that Hunger Games is on DVD? I bought my copy last night. I have read all the books about 3 times. I read the twilight books too but like these better. I like strong female lead characters not wimpy whiny ones.

Good Morning, Everyone!

I still can't figure out what's going on with me. I am 100% on plan. I had my thyroid labs done yesterday. Maybe that will shed some light? :?: Today is day 12 of TTOM. I had my last allergic reaction one week ago. It takes time for that to clear up. I am off antihistamines because I am going to a new allergist on Monday. All I can do is what was working all along. It just seems like my body is doing something wonky and I don't have control over this. I will find another level of patience and wait it out. Hmm, do I have a choice? ;)

Diana bumer having TOM so long. I hope you can get answers.

Rainbowgirl I hear you about her being self centered. I would add a bit wishy washy too. I just love that she can kick butt.

42goingon20 welcome good luck with weight watchers. I was thinking about them but I am just calorie counting for now.

Steph exciting about your new bathroom. I hope they can get done quickly.

I am a little bummed today. I am up a pound again. 245 again. I did weight training yesterday so maybe that is part of it. I have read you can retain water in your muscles after. So I will be walking hopefully for 4 miles again. I feel a bit dragging today so I am forcing myself to go. I was dragging Tuesday too but felt better after.

While I was walking on the treadmill yesterday my toes started hurting. I had to push myself to finish the last 10min. I looked at my feet when I got home. My 2nd and 3rd toes had cuts in the side from the nail of the next toe. Ouch. My youngest asked about my blisters on my heels. I said they were fine but looked anyway. Suprise I find blood on both socks :o. They both were bleeding but did not hurt as much as my toes. I hope the bandaids protect them today.

I LOVE! "The Hunger Games" but I couldn't stand Katniss' character. I liked her a bit more in the movie, but I found her to be self-centered and uninterested in the books. Still lo-o-o-ve the books though.

I think in that sort of situation self-centered is probably a good trait to possess. Granted, I've only read the first book. (And not because I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than continue like when I tried to read Twilight. It's just been a matter of money.)

I still don't know what is up with me. I'm pretty sure the only reason I'm so irrationally flustered is because I've been back in the 50s after having left them behind for a week. It just gets me. Up to this point I've been perfectly on plan. Today I had a business lunch and eating seriously made me want to cry (there's that irrationality again!) because here I was eating this probably calorically dismal (though delicious!) gyro omelet when I could have had the very tastey, very calorically happy sweet sour chicken or white chili or lasagna wonton cupcakes sitting in my fridge. Now I can't even say I've been on plan. The company we ordered from is local with no nutrition values posted and I simply have no way of knowing. :(

I'm scheduled to do the last workout in New Rules of Lifting for Women Stage 3 tonight. I'm hoping to channel my frustration into that.

Rainbowgirl
08-23-2012, 03:36 PM
Diana: I hope you get some answers on what's going on. I can imagine how frustrating that would be!

Lishar: Definitely wishy-washy, but yes she can kick butt =D The first movie was good; it followed the book pretty accurately, but I would have liked to see more butt kicking from her (though I guess that comes in the later movies, like it does in the later books).

Sounds like you really abuse your feet! Poor little piggies.:P I'm sure it was just a bit of water gain from the weight lifting or maybe even a bit of inflammation (which is the same thing, I guess lol)

Sluggerbean: CONGRATS!!! on your mini-goal, Peggy! How exciting! Keep up the great work!

Thistleberry: I definitely understand being a bit self-centered in the first book. She was thrown into a really horrible situation and had to figure out how to get out of it with Peeta. But the subsequent books are where she really shines as self-absorbed and uninterested in what she's sparked. If I were her, I'd be ecstatic that I'd started something that revolutionary (I won't give more details because I don't want to spoil it for someone who hasn't read them, but is going to). I didn't read Twilight; I suffered through the first movie and vowed never, ever, to read the books or watch the other films. Puke-city.

Hey, don't fret about stepping off plan. It was one time. Don't get too down over it - get back on the wagon and keep on going. A little deviation, as long as you get back on track, isn't the end of the world :) Oh - and kick some butt tonight!

Tuesday, August 21: 261.4
Wednesday, August 22: 258.8

So, I'm up .2 lbs but I'm not concerned. I went over my calorie and carb amount last night by having a piece of toast (Silver Hills Steady Eddie) with some natural peanut butter, a glass of milk, and a Laughing Cow light cheese wedge. I ate dinner too early for me, around 7:30/8 p.m. Since I stay up until 2 or 3 a.m., this leaves me plenty of time to get hungry again. I'm glad I chose something with protein AND carbs, rather than going for a mini-can of Coke and some popcorn, which would have been a really big step off the path.

Onwards and upwards! (or rather, downwards in our case!)

i expected a gain since last week. i have a 5k race today so the last few days i've been loading up on carbs and protein.
not only that, but i've been a little overwhelmed catching up with summer homework since i didn't have enough time to complete it like everyone else.

anyways, my plan is to run 24 minutes in 3.1 miles.
that's 4.8 minutes per kilometer (i broke it up into 5 kilometers to help me mentally not think about the longer 3 miles).

i'm a little nervous, though, because i strained my muscle a little yesterday. hopefully icing it all last night helped my muscle recover.

Hi folks. :coffee:

I'm holding at 156 - eating the last couple of days has been not great. I have overeaten in the evenings but not binged.

This weekend will be a challenge - I am visiting a friend, an overweight friend who loves recreational eating as much as I do. I'm going to have to be disciplined to resist turning the weekend into an all-out snackfest. I've already talked with her about it, and apologized for my expected wet-blanketness about things like visiting her favorite frozen custard shop and bakery and etc. She has been sweet and understanding. But ultimately, the onus is on ME to resist these things, and not on her to avoid suggesting them. So, that is my challenge this weekend.

Good luck and good strength to all of you.

Happy Friday everyone! Today, I'm off to a very intimate, semi-informal wedding of an old friend of the family. I'm also acting as photographer (SCARY!).

Yesterday, dad and I were out shopping for 5 hours, so we did a lot of walking around Costco and Wal-mart. That totally counts as my exercise lol (Especially since I was wearing my Vibrams!). We stopped at Wendy's for dinner, and I had their Apple pecan chicken salad (sans pecans b/c they're coated in sugar!) with a medium Coke (only drank 1/4 of it). I felt much better than if I had gotten a burger; specifically, no stomach pains from the bun.

Weigh-in today has me down again, too!

Heading to Vancouver sometime this weekend with my friend who was here on holiday from Scotland. Won't be back until Wednesday night at the very least, possibly Thursday. Hopefully I can keep on track while I'm down there, although I do know we're going for dinner at my favorite pasta restaurant.

Thank you for the kind words, Rainbowgirl and Diana. :)

Martine, I don't know if that NROLFW question was directed at me but I'll answer anyway. I think it's a great place to start for just about anyone! I'd reccommend it over a lot of cardio simply based on my own experiences. I tried to pick up jogging (C25k) when I was near my high weight, ten-ish pounds down, I think, and my poor right knee will never be the same again. I wish I had turned to weightlifting instead of running.

The important thing for any size, I think, is form. I spent a whole month before I started doing it trying to nail proper squat form. Once I felt I had that good to go I started the program just using bodyweight for a lot of the exercises and moved up from there. Some things will be harder to do at a higher weight, but modifying isn't a crime. I have to modify the workouts a bit because I work out from home. Also, I have a weird shoulder thing going on that makes certain moves not the best idea. I've just subbed other things in, either book reccommendations or things I've searched for on my own.

I'd check the book out if I were you. Even if you decide not to do it now you'll have it for later when you feel more confident about taking it on. :D

Good morning everyone! Hope this is going to be a great weekend for you all!

Diana: I hope it's the last day of it for you too!

Yesterday was a blast and for my first wedding shoot, I got some really gorgeous pictures =) It was a very intimate wedding with only 9 of us in attendance. We've known the bride for 20 years and she's known her groom now for 20 (we've known him too). They're both in their 50s (he's close to retirement). It was her first wedding and his second (his first wife passed away last year).

We had burgers at their house afterwards, but I avoided the buns and condiments. Did have a slice of processed cheese on mine, though. I had a lot of greek salad, rather than the potato salad and I turned down some coffee cake. Drank Coke Zero instead of an alcoholic beverage. When we got home, that afternoon, I didn't eat again. I was busy working on the pictures I had taken so finally dad said we should get something at like 8:30. So we ordered pizza.

Way way off the path! I had 4 slices (mind you they were SMALL slices) and a 100 cal can of Coke.

This morning though I did not go UP =D I only lost 0.4 lbs, but I'm happy it wasn't a gain. Back on track today. "Best" friend got a hold of me this morning, I am taking her down to the coast so I'm excited about that. I get to spend time with her AND I'll get to see my old coworkers, whom I miss a lot.

Martine, I'll second Thistleberry's comments on lifting. I've been lifting weights on and off for 30 years and it's great exercise. I recently read New Rules and enjoyed it. A friend is going to help me create a new program and I intend to integrate some of the routines in the book. Form is much more important at the beginning than the amount of weight. Start low but keep challenging yourself and you'll do fine. Good luck!

I was at 135.4 again this morning, yay! I went for a long walk this morning and really had to push myself. So now I'm pooped and am going to be lazy the rest of the day.

hope everyone is having a great weekend. No weight change today.

I track my calories on my fitness pal. I have been reading in their forums about BMR and TDEE. I realize I have been eating too few calories. Several times I have read eating low can make you loose muscle and fat. If I am strength training and trying to gain muscle why would I want to loose more.
I was at 1200 calories originally but was getting really tired after exercising so went up to 1500. Now I am going up to 1900. My baseline calorie (BMR) need is 1735. That is just to breath and blood to pump. Anything below that has a potential to loose significant muscle. The body breaks down muscle and fat for fuel. So at 1200 and 1500 a day I might have been dipping into my lean muscle for fuel. I want my lean muscle to burn calories all the time.

So we will see how this goes. It's hard to get my head around eating more to loose weight. I am eating heathy so that helps too. I still think about that bag of twizzlers that was 1500 calories. I would eat the whole bag. Ouch.

Martine

Thisleberry and steph, thank you for the info on the book, definitely will be checking it out. I usually enjoy weight lifting much more than cardio, looking forward to seeing what the routines are.

Today was a off-plan day, as we had our Summer party at work, with not exactly healthy foods, followed by bowling, which did give me a bit of a workout I suppose. The scale will tell the tale.

I weighed in at an astonishing 134.4 this morning. It was weirdly irritating, because I'm pretty sure it's a fluke, so it feels like a bit of a tease. Does that make any sense? Now I'll be disappointed when it goes up tomorrow.

Sometimes my mental machinations are really annoying! I had to keep talking myself out of buying 2 bagels this morning instead of 1. Aargh,

I think I am going to stop daily weights. They just drive me batty. I have increased my calories to above my BMR (basic metobolic requirements). I will then eat back my exercise calories. It's seems strange eating 1700 instead of 12-1500. I have been adding higher protein snacks. So onward and downward.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Today is my allergist appointment. I haven't mentioned this from over the weekend. I have hives all over my back/side and I have been waking with a swollen face and lips. There are only a few things I haven't been tested for. One of them is citrus. I have been consuming grapefruit juice or OJ on a daily basis. Recently I have been making sugar free lemonade/limeade to get rid of some of the water weight. Maybe it's a citrus allergy and that has been back firing on me. My allergy is really flared up now and of course it seems worse since I can't take the antihistamine because of my allergy appointment. Please send me some positive thoughts today.

Hi Everyone!

I finally have a diagnosis. I actually have 2 different issues going on. The first issue is the problem that has been ongoing for 2 + years now. The second issue is from this weekend.

A year ago I went to an allergist for food allergies. We did the skin testing for various foods I was tested for everything but a few items. He also did blood work. He said that my blood showed histamine and for me to take an antihistamine daily. I thought he just blew me off. I have eliminated just about every food group. In the last year I have gone to eating plain grilled protein and steamed broccoli daily, without any oil or seasoning. I have continued to have allergic reactions. I have taken antihistamines when I have flare ups. I had my records/labs from the other allergist forwarded to the new allergist. We did skin testing today for the foods that I think I am allergic to. He wanted to make sure that I wasn't allergic to these foods. Well, I'm not. Basically the other Dr. diagnosed me, but he didn't give me a proper term. I have tested positive for IgE receptor antibody (Angio Edema). The basic idea is that my body makes an antibody and my body thinks it's allergic all the time or when ever it wants to. That's the reason the histamine is in my blood. That's the reason I have eliminated all of these food, but I am still reacting. The only help is to take a daily antihistamine like the other Dr. said. I had about 5 minutes to do some reading today on this, not much time at all. It causes lip, body, facial swelling. Also, I have had bouts of severe abdominal pain. This is part of this. Also, I am hypothyroid. People with hypothyroidism are more prone to have this problem. It is an autoimmune disorder. Now all of the pieces of the puzzle come together and make sense. No matter how much food I eliminated, it would never completely clear up because it's not a food allergy.

Why couldn't I have a simple citrus allergy? Eliminate the citrus and eliminate the problem. Live goes and and life is good. NOOOOOOO! I have to be freakin' allergic to myself basically!

Has anyone heard of this before?

Now about my second problem. I have been having issues with back pain for the last couple of months and couldn't figure out what the problem was. I thought I was having posture issues. I have always had good posture, but I just kept trying to improve on this. This weekend I discovered a painful rash on my back. I have shingles. Hopefully this will get cleared up with the prescription meds.

Lishar
08-28-2012, 01:18 AM
Ouch shingles. Is there anything you can take for the autoimmune disorder other than antihistamines? Taking benadryl all the time would suck. I glad you got answers.

Not happy with how swollen I feel this morning. But, hopefully things will regulate after the antihistamine has been in me a couple days.

I think a lot of this was brought on by my stress in recent years, (the loss of my Dad then my pet and then recently the loss of my Mom). I could be wrong about the stress causing all of this. Who knows.

Tomorrow is my Endo appointment for my thyroid. Maybe she can shed some light on this autoimmune stuff, too.

Lishar The Dr. wanted me to start off with Zyrtec. I started it yesterday. Obviously it will take more time for my body to regulate. I was hoping to feel better overnight. ;)

Diana, good luck with the new treatments. Shingles can be awful, so I hope you can get it taken care of quickly.

As expected, I'm back up to 135.4 this morning. Ah well. Even worse is that my roof is leaking again, so I had to move my bed at 3 AM and then move a bunch of furniture this morning so I could pull up the wet carpet. I'm at my wits end about this and can't get my roofer to help me, so I'm in a funk this morning. I'm trying not to finish off the bag of granola in my desk.
