Default Work your way to a mini-vacation. Any takers?

Hi everyone! I just had a great idea for exercise and would like to invite others to join me. Here is how it works.

Choose a place you would like to go that is "reasonable" for your budget, family size, etc. -- close or far away, your choice. If you can only afford a day trip to a place not far away, fine.

Then... virtually "walk" to that place. Count any type of exercise and you set the mileage earned. For me it is 10 minutes of exercise equals one mile. THEN when you "get there" actually GO to that place for a mini-vacation!! Check in here along your journey and post info and pix of where you are, what you "see" along the way, etc.

I chose Seaside OR; a place I love and can afford to go to for a weekend. It is 193 miles from where I live; I'll be traveling down US-101, which is the beautiful coast highway.

I am going to count the minutes I have been logging for the last month; up to you whether you do that.

My total needed is 1930 minutes.... I am starting out deducting my 532 minutes, so I still have to go 1398 minutes.

Hope you will join me! It will be FUN and there will be a real reward at the end!

Goal 1930

7/29/12 completed 532 mins (53.2 miles) - still to go 1398 min (139.8 miles)
Current virtual location -- I've crossed the Bremerton Ferry and am just a couple of miles from coming into Allyn-Grapeview WA.

Soooooo... anyone want to join me????

I have tried everything on the face of the earth to add a photo... including searching the forum for instructions... and am unable to do it. Nothing works. Hopefully soon I will be able to share some pix.

This trip is going to be so much fun when I actually get to go because I will know I have earned it!!!

Route:
Allyn
Shelton

Change of plan!!

My friends and I want to go to Victoria BC, Canada, together, so I am going to change to that as my virtual walking goal. It is closer but we also want to take the trip before too long so it will still keep me moving!!

Soooooo

Kenmore WA to Vancouver BC = 132 miles

Waiting until it cools down to go to the pool tonight but current total
total 657 + 45 = 702 minutes
total miles 65.7 + 4,5 = 70.2

I am over halfway to Victoria
Current location Anacortes WA (69 miles from Kenmore)

This next part is going to be tricky because I have to cross the water... so will have to do some guesstimating

Thanks, Diana! My friends and I had talked about going to California this summer but decided that the trip is too long, too hot, too much driving, and too expensive. So I am thrilled that they want to go to Victoria too.

Hi Misti
I will give this a go
I live in Melbourne and have chosen Port Fairy - via the scenic route which is along the "Great Ocean Road"
The trip is a total of 374.5 kilometres.
Kilometres are shorter than miles so I will go with 2 kilometres for 10 minutes of exericise.
The trip goes
Melbourne
Geelong
Torquay
Anglesea
Airey's Inlet
Lorne
Apollo Bay
Port Campbell
Warnambool
Port Fairy

Port Fairy is a beautiful beachside town -- that I have been to several times but want to go again ..... Also the drive there along the Great Ocean Road is magnificent so it will be good to relive it.
Hopefully I can keep up with the posting and calculations.
Let me know how you post pics if you work it out

Yippeeee Crystal! So glad to have a walking buddy! And thank for the description. Yes, it would really be nice to be able to post pix. I asked in the forum help section even and got no answer. I just can't get it to work. In the past it seems that I posted images to Photobucket first and then could post here but that is not working now. But I'll work on figuring it out.

I went 35 minutes yesterday in the pool, or 3.5 miles -- totals are now

Kenmore WA to Vancouver BC = 132 miles

total 702 + 35 = 737 minutes
total miles 70.2 + 3.5 = 73.7

58.3 miles to go
Current location on the ferry from Anacortes, four miles from Anacortes, headed towards the pass between Center Island and Blakeley Island (38 more miles to landfall at Sidney)

It is 42 miles across the islands on the ferry from Anacortes WA to Sidney, BC, Canada

From Sidney, the route is

Sidney
North Saanich (5.59 miles)
Saanichton (1.62 miles)
Victoria (13 miles)

I did it! I got a photo! Here is the ferry from Anacortes I am "on" -- headed to Sidney!!!

Crystal, I added the photo to Photobucket, then went to the image on Photobucket. Over on the right there is a box that shows links. I chose "Image Code" -- click on the icon at the top here that shows the little picture (add images) and paste in the code.

I can't wait to see photos of your journey

Glad you are off on your journey, Crystal!!! Yah some parts can be boring ha. But since it is a virtual walk you can start anywhere you want.

I can't believe I did 70 more minutes today.. 10 minutes of dancing and an hour in the pool.

Current location on the ferry from Anacortes, 13.5 miles from Anacortes, headed towards the pass between Center Island and Blakeley Island (28.5 more miles to landfall at Sidney)

It is 42 miles across the islands on the ferry from Anacortes WA to Sidney, BC, Canada

From Sidney, the route is

Sidney
North Saanich (5.59 miles)

Hi Misti
Okay I have been thinking about what you said about it being my walk and I can start where I like so I am changing my walk too.
I am going to do the "Overland Track" in Tasmania. I actually did it a few years ago -- and am going to do it again sometime. It is a wilderness walk so you have to carry everything you need for six or seven days- but it is a magnificent walk. I am going to call 20 minutes a kilometre-- as it is a hard slog carrying all that weight. The total kms will be about 80 depending on sidewalks ( plus whether I take a ferry at the end or walk the last day)

Here goes - This week since Monday I have done 180 minutes of exercise- which translates to 9 kms. The first day of the overland walk -- starting from Cradle Mountain Resort is shortish -- but tough ( uphill )
I have walked 2.4kms to the bottom of Cradle Mountain -- Then I did the sidetrip up and down Cradle Mountain -- and have walked a further 4.1 kms.

The first hut for the first overnight stop is still 3.9 kilometres away. I am going to give myself rewards each time I get to a hut.

I would like to post some photos of Cradle Mountain -- and the late and small hut that I have passed so far. I will have a go tomorrow when I work out your instructions.
How are you going?
