Default # of calories in an unmarked product

Hi Guys!

Is it possible to send PM's (personal messages) to particular people on this site? If so, I don't how to do so if their contact info isn't listed in their profile.

I had an 8 oz. vegetable curry "calzone" this morning that I bought from a local health food store. It's in a cornmeal crust and made by a company called Vicolo. I didn't realize until I after I ate it that the calories were not listed on the label.

I'm guessing 500 calories but I'm not sure.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Thanks much,

CrystalRose

You can look up calories in the internet. And its a good habit to get into, to be in touch with what you are eating.

Think about how many ounces you think the crust was, then how much of that you think was the filling, and what was in the filling and what the calories might be. You could also look up the company on the internet and see if they have nutritional information.

I agree with Seagirl about looking up everything online, it may not be 100% accurate but you will get at least an estimate of the calorie count.

For your question about personal messaging someone, I think you have to be on here for 20 days and have 20 posts before you can message anyone so for now you will not be able to see anyone's contact info or anything. This is to prevent spam and fake accounts, etc.

I avoid unmarked packages like the plague (also restaurant meals without nutrition info), because it's just not worth it to me to risk underestimating.

If I absolutely have to, I'll check 3-4(minimum) comparable products at comparable sizes and figure out what kind of calorie rang those have. I usually choose the highest one as my estimate.

Also, if you can't find the calorie information on-line....sometimes e-mailing the company directly will get you what you need

Thanks much, All, for your very helpful feedback.

When I purchased this product, I thought the calories were listed like on the package like they were on all the others I bought. I'm really consciencious about that. Major oversight on my part! The product isn't listed on the company website, but I sent them an e-mail and asked for the calorie count.

Since this is an unusual product with ingredients I'm not familiar with in quantities I can't guess at, I'm "guesstimating" the count at 500. The other similar products I purchased were a little lower than that. I'll be much more careful the next time.

Thanks for the heads up about sending PM's.

Have a wonderful day!
