I'm in it's been a while since I've been apart of a challenge. I'm shooting for 15 lbs.

QUESTION?????
What plan is everyone doing?

For most of my dieting life I've done low carb and have dabbled in calorie counting have had success on both. Low carb keeps the hunger at bay but I tend to get bored. Calorie counting works also but then I get a little loose on my choices and end up with too much sugar which leads to acne break outs and cravings.

So I think I'll monitor portions and added sugar..... we'll see.

I'd like to join as well...my goal is to lose 7lbs this month! I've been doing Weight Watchers but also tracking calories. I've been struggling latetly, so have decided to do calorie counting and attempt to limit (not eliminate though!) carbs. I love Weight Watchers and had success on it in the past, but it's time for a change.

I AM IN.
I really hope to lose 10lbs in August! I'd like to start off my move to Los Angeles on the right foot.

QUESTION?????
What plan is everyone doing?
I'm doing South Beach diet phase II while also counting calories. My weight's been stuck for a few weeks, so I'm bringing it for August.

I'm in for a goal of eight pounds in August. I'll post my start weight tomorrow. I'd really like to be able to wear all of the work clothes I bought last fall when school starts up again (they fit when I bought them but I gained about 30 pounds over the last school year).

Good luck everyone!

Great! It sounds like we have a good group going. I personally weigh in on sundays but i am going to hit the scale tomorrow just to be accurate. I am also counting calories, trying to stay around 1500. I have given up fast food (with the exception of In n out when i go to california in late august) and I joined another challenge where I am trying to exercise 6 days a week. I also just added a new ticker just for the month of August! Good luck everyone, post if you have any updates or need extra support!

Well, my start weight is 175 even, which makes my goal 167 by August 31st. I really want to drop some pounds, but I'm getting frustrated. I know it's my own fault - I seem to stay on plan fine for a while and then completely blow it for a couple of days before getting back to business.

I'm in! I'm just starting, would love to lose 10-15 pounds this month.

I'm doing general low carb/low GI eating (aiming for less than 80g carbs per day to start), and for exercise I'm doing DDP Yoga (higher cardio, strength-building yoga), as well as just using more active pastimes, like bowling, or reading while walking

Best of luck to all of us!

Hi all. Just joined 3fc a couple days ago (my sad little saga is posted on the introductions) and am definitely up for a BIG start! Thanks, uoduck! I will have to get a more accurate starting weight, since I just ballparked it when I signed on and will update tomorrow. I have decided to try intermittent fasting (aka "fast five"), as I am fighting some hormonal/insulin resistance thing that seems to respond best to low/no carbs... but I just can't seem to stick with that for long enough to make a dent.

I just finished a 24-hour fast at 5pm (harder than I thought it would be!), to kick this whole new plan off... and now, I am planning to try the normal "fast five"-- 19 hours of fasting per day, with a 5-hour window when you can eat. So..... I am going to be VERY optimistic and shoot for losing 15 pounds in August! Let's do this thing! :carrot:

Hey Everyone,
I had a pretty good day watched portions and no junk, feeling pretty good. Really hoping I can stay on track for this month I actually started Sunday and down 5 lbs since but gonna use my weigh in from today as my August starting weight = 240 lbs.

Hope everyone had a great 1st day :)

My first day was...okay. I did my yoga workout, was good on food...up til I went out for dinner. It was only about 30-40g carb, which put me at about 90 grams for the day, but I just checked the nutritrion info, and the sodium was off the charts. Lesson learned. If I go out again, will be chicken caesar salad for me, lol.

Tomorrow's a new day!

Hi devnet. I did low carb most of last year, sadly I was on high doses of steroids so didn't loose, however I only put on 7lbs so dread to think how my weight would have rocketed. However away from the point.....I found when eating out I could ask for the main I wanted I just asked for veg instead of carbs such as rice, potatoes etc. Once you do that once and realise that the staff don't mind it becomes very easy. Try not to limit yourself to salad you will get bored quickly and end up hating salad. Just watch sauces etc for hidden carbs.x

Thanks for the advice. I actually did do that, though - I had a Philly Burger from Applebees, which has a white cheese sauce and stir fried mushrooms, onions and red peppers. I got it without the bun, and had seasonal veggies on the side. I made a high estimate on the carbs because I didn't know how they made the cheese sauce, or how they stir fried the veggies. The carbs for a chicken caesar salad would have been about 25, but much lower in sodium (still not exactly healthy though, lol).

I haven't officially weighed in yet (Saturday) but I'm doing really well so far! I saw 162 lbs yesterday, but I'm up to 162.5 lbs today. Not surprising at all given the fact that I sat in a 100+ degree office all day yesterday, couldn't ride my bike (yay 2 flats), and ended up eating dinner after 9 pm after spending an unfortunate amount of time replacing the back tire. I'm going to try to be super active this weekend...My official goal for my birthday next Saturday was 170, but I shot past that and am kinda sorta not-so-secretly hoping to see 160 now after how well this week went.

devnet: Great job!

How is the fast five fasting diet going?

Hi uoduck and sorry for the delay in replying: have had a few crazy long work days this week! I LOVE the fast five: it was awful for the first maybe 5 days, but then I just woke up one morning and my stomach rumbled once, I drank some water, started doing some work around the house and ran some errands and-- voila-- my five hour window had begun and I could eat! The great thing is that, coming off each 19-hour fast, I only eat a little bit and feel completely satiated for a couple hours and then I get to eat a "real meal" before the window closes. :D

I really like the simplicity of it, though I am using a calorie counting app in my phone (called myfitnesspal) to be sure my "real meal" doesn't put me over the 1200 calories max I am maintaining.

Also, it just makes good biological sense (I am a biologist, so that's important to me!): humans were hunter-gatherers who used to go long periods without food and this modern "food all the time, food any time" phase is really recent. I think Type II diabetes and insulin resistance and all the related problems might just stem from us eating too many hours every day (with too little exercise, because we don't have to hunt or gather, either!).

I think the best part is that I just feel somehow more like my old self: more energy (even during the fasting: crazy!), definitely shrinking and fitting clothes a bit better (need to get another weigh-in at the gym to tell what is really going on, though), and even my skin seems to look better (probably because I drink a LOT more water during the fasting hours, to keep feeling full-ish).

I totally recommend trying it! There is a site about the diet called fast-5 [dot] com, if you want to check them out.

And thanks again for spurring us on to this fabulous and timely August challenge!

Had a good day food-wise. Even with 4 ounces of chocolate milk (oddly enough, that's a long story), I still came up at 61 grams of carbs for the day. My limit right now is 80, so I'll definitely take it. :)
